Roaming all the time - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys.
When I insert my Fido sim card the R symbol shows up beside the signal. The funny thing is I have 5 bars even when I remove my sim card.
I have tried going to airplane mode, APN settings, and Data Roaming and Mobile Data are off.
My phone is rooted and it's running on Dmod V4. Also, I tried changing the CSC code (it's currently at KOR) but there are no options for a Canadian one.
Lastly, would I be able to change the XX in the baseband version or does that work with a Canadian carrier?

[Q] SIM card reading problem

My i9000m on the Bell mobility network is not picking up data after an overnight charge with the phone turned on. Today - nothing. I do have phone use and I can access data on WiFi.
I am running stock ROM. I unlocked the phone using a Rogers SIM card, about a week ago, but went back to the Bell network immediately after with no problem. After unlocking I got the Kies to work and updated to UGJH2. Since then, the network access has been spotty but I've switching to WiFi then switching back and it's coming back. I purchased this phone with a different Bell SIM2 then put my old Bell SIM1 (from an Omnia2) in this device.
*#7465625# shows Personalizatiob Status
network lock [OFF]; Network sublock[OFF]; SP lock [OFF]; CP lock [OFF]
What I've tried
1) Switching to WiFi and back - no data
2) Putting SIM1 back into the Omnia 2 - O2 booted up and accessed the Bell network including data. CONCLUSION - The problem is not the SIM card.
3) Putting the SIM2 into the i9000m - no network access at all; not even phone. This SIM2 is working in the O2 and originally worked in the i9000m. Much to my surprise when I put SIM1 back in the SGS it still picks up the Bell network.
4) Squeezed the SIM holder blew out with compressed air in case it's just a physical problem with the SIM being held tight enough - SIM1 still not picking up data.
So it would seem that there is a problem with my SGS reading SIMs other than the one in use when whatever happened happened. Any suggestions on how to get other SIMs, even from the same network, to work? If I have to submit my phone to Bell I need to re-lock it. How do I do that?
Thanks for the help.
--- update---
relocked the phone using *7465625*638*# then 302610 and my unlock code. Power off / on still no data access. Now *#7465625# shows Personalizatiob Status - network lock [ON]; Network sublock[OFF]; SP lock [OFF]; CP lock [OFF]
first try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789039&highlight=*#0011#
does it show which band it is using for data?
you can also try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8124344&postcount=45
install the APN on off
then flip it on / off and back to on
see if that helps
Thanks for the response.
I did the #*0011* It's flipping between the 850 on 5 and 1900 on 2 The DL and UL numbers are slightly different. I did have to reconnect to the APN.
How would this affect installing *other* Bell SIMS? That's what worries me the most - that it wouldn't read another Bell SIM that works in another phone.
the only time i see this happen is if you swap the SIM card when the phone is ON
if you turn off the phone, change between SIM1 and SIM2, then turn it back on, you should not see that problem
I know because i was playing around with multiple SIMs when we were researching the Unlock methods for this phone
I take out the battery before I change the SIM. I have to for the Omnia 2 so I just got in the habit. This is sounding worse and worse
although I was rushing off to work so maybe I didn't - hope springs eternal.
----resolution ---
sometimes you just have to call Bell, wade thru the 1st level support and get to someone who knows what's up. Apparently my phone plan changed today (I didn't know it was post dated) and the data feature was not provisioned even though it's a plan that includes data. The guy invoked the feature and poof - data. yay. AllGamer, thanks for your help.
you'r welcome
I did have the same problem, using 2 numbers from 2 telcos, both sims work fine on my iphone but I9000 fail to recognize 1 of these 2, no matter how I tried, I actually did all crazy things like insert couple paper layers between the sim and the sim slot to create additional pressure on the sim contact circuit.
Suck thing about this is non-recognizable sim has data plan with it, which I want to use on I900, finally I asked the carrier to issue a new sim and all thing work fine. It's a new sim type anyway. You may want to try this if all other means doesn't work.
The fix is easy I use to have a moto milestone and when this happened a simple reboot fixed the data connection.

Phone Shows Roaming Sign When Abroad using a Local SIM

I've recently shifted to another country,
Used my o2 SIM for a day or two and obviously phone showed as Roaming, with the little "R"..
I've now bought a local SIM card and installed and running on a local Provider, yet the phone still shows as Roaming and Data does not work unless I allow Data connection while roaming...
Is this a bug or something?
I should state I've been in a different country recently and also used a local SIM from there and I never had this issue at all... I saw the local provider when using their SIM, Now, I use a local SIM and this still shows an "R" on my signal.. Same with my girlfriends phone...
Any ideas?
Edit: I'm on a N/W unlocked phone..

In my country there were 2 networks, and when a third network started it's business, it was using the infrastructure of one of the existing networks. The phones that were using Sim cards of the third network, all showed that they were in roaming, and if they wanted to use data, they needed to enable "data while roaming" options. Of course, they were never billed for roaming charges. Now this third network has it's own infrastructure, and the roaming sign is a thing of the past.
Maybe this is the case with you too.
I would try to contact the local network provider, to seek the answer you are looking for.

I get this in Thailand because my provider has different names/IDs for the 3G and 2G networks.
The 3G is called "True-H" and the 2G "True Move", or something like that.
The SIM will automatically register on both networks, but if it connects to the 2G network I get the roaming symbol.
The solution is either to enable roaming data (I don't get charged any extra, but need to remember to disable it if I travel), or set my movie network to WCDMA only. This way it won't connect to the 2G network.

Check if you got roaming allowed and switch it of.
Register if needed handset on your network manually.
You might not have the network where you are due to availability area coverage.
Check your apn settings, if they are on the mobile network you need and settings are correct. Perhaps from website provider, or helpdesk you can request them to send settings.
Go to settings, more, mobile networks and check there. Just explore a bit.

Cheers for the replies,
I'd already checked those areas out, APN is correct, Settings from Provider received and installed, Manually selected provider from the Network list...
Still showing 'R' - AS has been said 0 I'll just have to enable Data when Roaming and turn it off when I travel..
which service provider do you use and phone model do you use?
this phenomenon normally happen in new telco on some phone model

I9305 network problem 3 uk not working

hi there..got i9305 and its got a strange problem that every time i change the sim card it cant detect the sim cards automaticly and i have to search networks manualy and select it..then its works fine with all sim cards like t mobile phone o2 vodaphone but only with 3 sim it cant connect to network and always says mobile networks not avalible..
its was locked on EE and i used the free methoed to unlock it from xda..
please help to solve that problem
thanks
Go to Network Settings and set it to "WCDMA only" or "AUTO" mode. You CAN'T use 2G only for Three UK as it is 3G ONLY network. If this doesn't work then try different sim-card or try different Modem/Rom. Nothing else's coming to my head.
It's all OK here, 3UK as well, my i9305 was locked to T-Mobile but I've used a Unlocking Code from eBay and simlock is gone for good.

GSM=2G, WCDMA=3G, LTE=4G..................
UK Three is a 3G ONLY so you need to set it up 3G ONLY... leave it for couple of minutes, if still nothing then re-install modem

[Q][Solved] Some particularities of "Free" network in France

Hi everyone,
I bought myself a nexus 4 and I gave the P990 to my girlfriend.
I did a factory reset and inserted her SIM card (the mobile operator is called Free, a french operator), and I got a "roaming" symbol in the network. This was with the combination I have in my signature.
I've been trying different basebands today, and now I can't get any reception at all, it just says "No network".
Now I'm with DjangoManouch stock rom, 218 baseband, still no network with Free's sim card, but I tried with my sim card and it's working perfectly... I tried Free's sim card in my nexus 4 and it is also working perfectly...
I did get "normal" reception using the combination in my sig with free's sim card at a specific location... my best guess is that free's cell towers need a very specific baseband for it to work correctly? Do you have any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Cheers!
Slight update, the total network loss was solved by changing to the correct IMEI (it must have been reset by one of the flashes I did).
But the "roaming" problem is still there Manually selecting the network solves it temporarily. Has anyone ever had a similar situation?
Thanks!!
Did some more research... apparently her network has very limited coverage, and for the areas where it is not covered it has a deal with another operator, Orange.
So, whenever she doesn't have "official" coverage, she'll get the roaming symbol. And apparently they have an app to avoid people in the border to get reception from foreigner operators, which would mean "real" roaming, which is odd and interesting.
Anyways, hope it will help someone...

Data connection issue

Im using my moto g with cyanogenmod 12.1 5.1.1 and yesterday i bought a second sim card to use. i put the card in and i cant connect to internet, when i enable the new card (secnd slot) i get an R on the network bars, when i unable the second card i can connect with the first one. I tryed to change slots but whenever i use 2 cards the same happens. Any solution? Thank you in advance
You only can use data for one sim, you have to choose which one.
R means its roaming, you have to enable data while roaming.
Add the correct APN for second carrier
