Apps not compatible - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to install apps that say they are incompatible? I tried installing MAX GO, but it says it's incompatible with my NOOK HD+. HBO GO, basically the same app is compatible.
There are a bunch of other apps, like Optimum Cable app that won't install. The weird thing, I used to be able to at least search for them before 2.10, but now they won't even show up in the Play Store.
I have the latest Extras installed to allow other sources and I reran Rooting after 2.10 upgrade, and have Root access. I also tried "Market Helper" app to spoof the tablet, but it seems to have old tablets in the list, like Kindle and Kindle HD.
Thanks.

Not much you can do other than install from other stores like 1mobile.com or Amazon.com or try getting from another device. Most will run if you can get them to install.

[Q] How do you install .apk files on a rooted Nook?

Alright, so I have a 1.2.0 Nook Color. Last night I rooted it with ManualNooter but now the android market is not working so great. Only a few things show up, and Angry Birds is definitely not showing up. I've heard that sometimes the full market doesn't show up till after 30 hours after rooting, however I don't know how much of a rumor that is.
Therefore, I want to try and get the amazon app market for the Kindle app and such. How can I download it? I know I need to install something but I don't know how.
Any good, straight forward instructions for a total noob? Thanks!
First, you must open up Nook Color tools. Then tick the box for "non-market installs". Second, download the Amazon Appstore apk file from here, directly on the Nook. Once the file is downloaded, open up the notifications in the bottom left corner and tap the "download complete" window. Select Package Installer. Then simply enough, there is an install button. Press it (duh). Now wait. When that's done, then you can open it.
Ahhh, see I don't think I have Nook Color tools on it yet. I'm assuming that's process where I hook the Nook to the computer and form some commands?
Nook color tools is installed with the manual nooter zip that you flash. ADB wireless, SU, google apps and a few others should also be there. What did you use to root? The most current is 4.6.16. Limited market apps was an issue with earlier versions that has a fix posted within the MN thread. Otherwise, I did not run into that with the latest version.
Yeah I just found the Nook Tools on there. The 'Allow non Market apps' was already checked so I don't know why the amazon app wouldn't download.
_EDIT_
Alright, I updated the MN and installed it, the market is working great
Now lets see if I can get Amazon app to work this round!

No menu inside Amazon Appstore??

Hi all,
My Nook Color had been running an ancient version of CM9, but was acting all laggy and locked up more often than not. I blew that away and installed Parandroid. Seems to run much better.
However, I'm having issues with the Amazon Appstore.
I installed it. However, there is no soft menu button available to select which will bring up things like My apps, so I can reinstall them. I CAN install new apps though as I registered the device through the Kindle for Android app, and was then able to purchase something through the Appstore.
Has anyone else had this problem on their Nook Color? If so, were you able to resolve it?

[Q] 7notes for Android on Kindle Fire HD

Hi everyone,
First of all thanks for the good work and threads. It has helped me a lot to get my Kindle Fire HD rooted and setup the way I want it.
My situation is as follows: I have a rooted Kindle Fire HD (7.2.2.) with access to the Google Play Store but no means to download apps from the Amazon Market due to non-US residency (country not supported by Amazon). While I have been able to get a workaround for any other request/app I wanted, I am now struggling to get 7notes Mazec to work.
7notes is available for Kindle as Premium version which I would love to buy but they would not let me. I tried installing 7Notes for android instead. Got the apk, sideloaded it into system/app folder with File Expert and also tried via Nook Colour tools. I was able to access 7notes as a keyboard in my settings. But whenever I try to write anything with it, I get an unknown error that does not allow me to write anything down.
Q: do you know of a workaround for this problem? generally, is there anyone who succeeded in installing 7notes for Android on a Kindle device? (and if all else fails, is there another app that recognizes your handwriting and transforms it into "proper" text?)
Any help/hint would be much appreciated! :good:
Have a great weekend!

HD+ can't install Amazon AppStore nor update Amazon apps

Hi everyone, and thanks to the developers who’ve made the Nook HD/HD+ into a real tablet. I have a 16GB HD+ with CM11-2014-11-12- snapshot- m12 build (Kitkat 4.4.4).
For the past several days, I’ve been unable to update Amazon store App or the apps downloaded from Amazon, except for Kindle, which is thru GAPPS. The “Unfortunately, Package Installer has stopped” message appears, and does so when I try to sideload those apk’s. I’ve uninstalled and tried to reinstall both the Amazon Store App and the Optimum Cable App, with the same message appearing.
In addition, when I try to access Apps through Settings, I get the “Unfortunately, Settings has stopped” message on most apps, and for those that open, I can’t clear the cache. Why is this happening and what’s the solution? I and my 10 yr/old sidekick, Noob, jr would appreciate any help. Thank you for your time.
I reinstalled the operating system and the apps, all is well now.
Now I can't transfer files between the Nook and my Windows 7 & 8 hard drives. There's no connection at all and neither WIN7 nor 8 loaded any USB drivers. Code 28 response by windows. Any advice???

Problems with Kindle Books app

Hi All,
I'm having some issues with my Kindle Books app, when I go into the library most of my books appear as greyed out and won't open, there seems to be no difference between books downloaded to the device and books stored in the cloud. Only two books seem to work and I think both of these were purchased after the issue first ocurred. The odd thing is that if I go via the books store and select the "read now" button, the book will open on my device. Not really sure what's going on here, any thoughts on what I an do to fix this?
Running Fire OS 5.3.1 with root and ota blocked (by renaming file).
Thanks,
Jonny

Not immediately sure about your Kindle Books issue but first need to get the facts straight on your device. FireOS 5.3.1 is not rootable at present so you must be running another version or don't actually have root. This could be relevant as some apps behave differently on rooted devices.

I used this tutorial to do it. It allows 5.3.1 to be rooted using 5.1.2 bootloader.

Yep - welcome to the 1% club (ok - maybe 5%) that followed this procedure and opted to remain on FireOS. I actually thought about that possibility when penning my previous response but felt mentioning it would only lead to confusion. My bad.
As for Kindle Books have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app? I realize this may be a challenge as the version included with FireOS is a system app different (and possibly not readily available) than the generic Android app. You might also try clearing the app data store which *should* be repopulated from Amazon cloud on initial connection after the flush.

Yeah, I know it's an unusual choice, will probably install a custom rom at some point but for now Nova launcher and Fire OS is good enough for me
In more relevant news clearing the app data store seems to have worked a treat, thanks for your help
I'm on n the same boat, running Fire OS 5.3.1 with 5.0.1 bootloader. That's the only way that FreeTime works for my kids. Wish they just made free time available in he Google. Play store
