The Noob's Lesson Learnt, Experience Share Thread - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi guys, today i met with a bug on my CM10.1 stock kernel optimus 4x. Symtom of which, no GPS satelite found, at all, after 5 mins in the bright daylight.
What i did before this was flashing pacman
and then returned to CM via, flash CM -> restore CWM backup. (wipe data/format system -> Restore CWM works too but it wasn't how i've done)
*all flash was preceeded by wipe/cache/dalvik/format sys
After encountering with the GPS bug i tried to wipe/format then restore CWM with no result.
How i managed to fix it was reflashing CM10.1 + gapp, and then rebuild on the clean CM, no CWM restore works.
in writing this i hope users facing the same issue will be able to solve their problem the way i did.
I hope other daily users who had plunged into some sort of bugs but has found their way out, or other (veteran) users who has their fixing tips to share, can post and consolidate your knowledge here,
and who knows this thread will eventually will evenntually turn into a knowledge base benefiting others (noobs) and save our effort to answer the same questions again and again. Let's get things done.
Please don't post questions here!!!

In case somebody uses CM. Do not reboot into CWM using the power button menu. The phone will then keep rebooting into CWM and you wont be able to do anything about it.
How to fix it? You may need to download an CWM img file that gets you out of the bootloop. Of course, that works if only you have an SD card and SD card reader for the PC.
Else, reflash stock rom.
How I did it: I had multiple CM rom zips in my sdcard memory and internal SD storage. I just tried installing them randomly until somehow the bootlopp ended.
So, dont reboot into CWM. Close your phone then git the Volume - button and the power button to access CWM.

@shadowcore that's how i usually boot into recovery. either vol - + pwr from hot boot
or via power off menu and select restart to recovery option
no issue so far.
one thing about recovery i've came across too is you don't force shut down by holding power button for 10 sec.
i did that once and from then on i kept booting into recovery until i removed battery and reinsert.

CMR loop - streak 7 "brick" - frustrated, S.O.S7

Ok, so like many others am facing a CMR loop on my DS7.
here are my situation specifics
When I turn on my DS7 it goes straight to the dell logo and then the 3 lights on the face, (home menu back) flash and it goes straight to ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.0.
Volume + and power does not load stock recovery options
Volume - and power does not load fastboot
both volume + and - then usb does not work, win 7 professional does not recognize.
i can access my internal storage via USB storage mount. if i put files on the DS7 they stay there.
I have downloaded NVFlash and the nvidia usb drivers, but am not sure where to extract them too i guess?
This situation came about while trying to flash the HC unbranded US 4G update.
I gingerbroke, achieved root through rom manager, flashed CWM 3.0.2.0, flashed update, and now here i am...
I am tech literate, and can follow directions if they are given clearly, can someone please help (and stay on track, start to finish) or share a link to a concise walk through? i know this issue has been resolved by oth er members but the process is spread across threads, sites, PM's, pdf's... and i just can't follow the trail to the grail.
sincere appreciation and thanks to anyone who is able to shed light. Thanks all.
Ok I think this is whats up. You said you flashed the HC 4g. I had this issue somewhat, what I did was this. I had CWM 3.0 like you. Flashed the HC, then CWM stops working. I used the pinhole to turn off the DS7. Then I - powered on to fastboot. Then I flashed CWM 5.0 (You need to do this using fastboot) once thats up, pin hole it off, then go into CWM again, and factory reset. Then you should be ok.
If that doesnt work. And you are still in CWM 3.0 I would suggest trying to flash the 2.2.2 with Tweaks rom. See if that restores you and dont forget to factory wipe.

Cannot get into recovery On Wind Optimus 2x

Every place i have searched says to get into recovery hold volume down + power. Why does it not work for me? I installed clockwork and i can get into the recovery via the app but when i power down all it does is reflash the stock rom and im back to square one. ive tried multiple searches but it seems like im the only one and its really bugging me. whats worse is that i tried installing cyanogen for the first time and i didnt know i had to clear data cache and now im stuck at the logo and everytime i try getting into recovery it just once again flashes back to stock which is unfortunately the cyanogen rom that wont let me boot. fantastic
You have a G2X, so you need that forum.
You have to NVFlash recovery if you want to boot straight into it.
Hello!
Can you still see the CWM?
Don't forget - don't press too long, release when the logo changes otherwise the phone will continue to boot and you might be stuck again.
Then as always... format /system, format /data (you find it in mounts and storage)
Wipe dalvik (found in advance)...
Install zip from SD-card (CM7), install gapps - then you should be good to go.

Lg bricked?Noob mistake..

Well, i wanted to change my rom, CM 7.2, with DjangoManouche 1.2 and used the rom below..i backed up, and when i started flashing, it said that"this is not a ROM"..i..kind of panicked and after a minute, when i seen "nothing moves" i removed the battery. When i tried to start the phone, it only shows the LG logo..but does not boot(i waited for just 1-2 minutes..). I hope someone could help me.

I recall reading something about using NVFlash to force the stock rom on and allowing to recover from a bricking.
I'll defer to someone with experience in fixing bricked phones though.
Thank you...now..it wont even start, even when i plug-in the charger..it had pretty low battery..i am pretty ducked..
You have to reflash it with KDZ recovery method. Look up google and you'll get it working. I did this the first time too (what a bad joke to say "this is not a ROM")...
I'm sure you can still enter Cwm if you hold down volume- while pressing power button until it the Cwm menu appears.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
First of all, don't worry, O2X is pretty unbrickable...at least in the level you're messing with it!
If you have recovery installed, you should be able to reboot into recovery : press and hold vol down button, then power button until you see blue halo of LG. before that, download another ROM and put it in your external SDcard. Flash that ROM.
You can also download and flash the original firmware of LG by using smartflash. You can find those in ANDROID DEVELOPMENT section!
Also check KDZ recovery!!
Thank you..it worked with recovery mode..i had back-ups. I got a bit scared because when i pressed vol_dwn+ shut down button..after i release the 2nd button, it turned off...but i menaged to make it. Again, thank you for help.

The common mistake for new people is that they restore entire nandroid backup after flashing ROM. CWM doesn't have option to backup DATA only, so you have to restore DATA from nandroid backup using Titanium Backup etc.
Try this:
1. Restore into fully functioning ROM(+data) if you don't have already
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Format /system
4. Flash new ROM
5. Clear cache and dalvik cache
6. Check if phone successfully boots
7. Flash Gapps if needed.
8. DO NOT DO ANY RESTORES AFTER STEP 1!!
9. If it doesn't work out, try another ROM. There may be some error with the file!!

cm10.2 update wont boot first time, cant access recovery mode again

So i wanted to update to cm10.2 (from 10.1) , i am using a i9000 and clockwork mod recovery.
I wiped the relevant caches, formated /system then flashed the file from my sd card. Everything seemed to work alright (no errors) , but now the phone wont boot on its first attempt (longest i have left it so far is about 20 mins).
The main issue here is that i cant boot into recovery from it being off. I have tried volume down and power (i believe this is the correct combo) , all i get is the samsung galaxy s splash screen over and over (flashing every 3-4 seconds).
So what is the best way to proceed from here? (in order to just go back to cm10.1 probably), shall i use odin or something to reflash cwm? or to flash cm?
EDIT : i do have a backup which i made with cwm before the flashing, and have extra copies and whatnot. So how would i go about getting cwm to work again?
Im not quite sure what to do at the moment, any advice would be handy.
Thanks in advance
right , well edit didnt work.
I was using the wrong combo of buttons and have managed to get into cwm, so ill just give the install another go, before restoring my backup i guess.

PROBLEM IS SOLVED. since i managed to boot to cwm properly.
Turns out that cm10.2 is laggy as **** on my device, and so im restoring back to how it was , a shame XD

TWRP - Touch not working, how to reset?

Hi! I do hope someone can help me getting back to installing a new ROM on my Desire 500.
I had an old one lying around and decided to root it. This is not the first time I have done this. I followed the guide in this forum and so far it has been very helpful, thank you! I took all the steps up until installing a custom ROM. Did a full wipe, extracted the ROM to the right folder on the SD card and went into CWM to restore it to my phone. However, CWM linked in the guide does not seem to support restoring from external storage, so I proceeded to flash TWRP onto the phone. Version 2.6.3.0 was recommended in the guide so that is the one I used.
After booting into recovery, I found out that I cannot use the touch screen, thus rendering TWRP useless. Now I would like to install a version of CWM that is compatible with external SD cards, but I cannot get out of TWRP because of the screen not working.
I found a few threads recommending a hard reset, but no matter how long I hold down the volume down and power button (I did this for over 2 minutes straight), the phone does not turn off. I also saw this strange advice to do this under a very bright light, but this also does not seem to work. Removing and re-inserting the battery just immediately puts me back into the locked TWRP screen.
How do I get back into fastboot so I can flash a new recovery image and get rid of TWRP?

Remove battery, wait 15 minutes. Press and hold first vol- and after power button. Install this recovery

Same problem for me BUT I have an internal battery so would I honestly have to screw open my HTC One M7 to reset this? Waiting for the battery to drain is a waste of a lot of hours having to press vol every minute to leave the screen on
