OTA Update - HTC First

Here's the zip of the OTA that was pushed out. It won't install through either CWM or TWRP, so can someone who's more knowledgeable in these matters make it flashable?
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/821854/OTAPkg.zip
And in case it helps, here's the log from CWM from trying to flash it manually:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/821854/recovery.log
And yes, as with any OTA, you run the risk of losing root, etc. But for me, I really don't care. I've even tried pushing the included stock recovery, but it doesn't work like this. You get a phone with an exclamation point over it (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about) when you try to boot into that recovery. A quick push of TWRP back onto the phone fixed that error, but I still can't flash the update, obviously. Anyone want to take a crack at it?
Thanks to nuclear_eclipse for getting this and the log for us!

That symbol just means that it doesn't know what file to use for the update; this is part of what get's communicated somehow from the OS to the recovery during reboot, but I'm not familiar enough with the way recoveries work to know how to trigger that myself. I would assume this is a similar mechanism to how ROM Manager et al can tell CWM/TWRP what to flash.

That makes total sense. I guess it's not automatically checking the folder that Software Update puts it in. I've got another 22 hours until I can get Software Update to check again. I'll push the stock recovery before I do that, unless someone makes this flashable through TWRP or CWM before then.

In my stock Rom thread there are new files up. They are the ota roms. So if you are running stock, download the odex one ending in 1.08 and flash in recovery, no need to wipe data. Then pull boot.img and fastboot flash it. You now have the ota software. I will post instructions to upgrade the firmware that came with the ota

[Q] Upsdate OTA to 2.3.3 without bricking?

Hi,
First of all I apologize for the extremely noob question, but I just want to be certain I wont brick my phone, so I rather ask...
I have a Nexus 1 with 2.2.2 rooted (it came just like this when I bought it, so I have no idea how it was done). The thing is I got a notification about OTA update to 2.3.3, and I wanted to update.
My question here is, how do I determine that it wont brick my phone?
(As far as I can tell its googles stock firmware with stock recovery atm)
Apply the update. If it fails, you will need to look into other means of upgrading. If it passes, you win. If it fails, and won't boot afterwards, you may need to wipe, but all should be normal afterwards.
Thanks
While we're at it, how do I 'wipe' exacly?
By installing a custom recovery, either ClockWorkMod (through ROM Manager from the market) or Amon_Ra, which is my preferred choice, but you have to flash it using adb.
Thanks guys, I've been reeding a bit more and finally figured it out.
One last question though, I see from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968396 that Gingerbread requires Hboot 0.35.0017 and Radio 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04.
I already have hboot-0.35.0017 but I have RADIO-4.06.00.12_7.
If I upgrade using OTA do I have to flash Radio first? Also can I use this newer radio with FRG83G?
Im sorry, Im still a bit lost on the radio stuff...
If you use the official ota it will update the radio.

Neat! And if I need to rollback to FRG83G, will the new radio version work with it?
So I updated using OTA feature and everything went smooth!
Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it!
BTW So far Gingerbread kicks ass!
nice to see people getting the ota..

this all seems a bit long.
I have TWRP on my stock Sense ROM 4.1, also getting these OTA update to 4.2.2 prompts, which I would like for the new camera features and quick toggles.
Don't really want to have to flash default to remove TWRP then update then have to install TWRP again.
Can you not somehow apply this using TWRP another way, other than OTA? Is the update not available as a package that can be flashed with TWRP?

Ok cheers for into, don't think I will go that route.
I was just reading about this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390346
So I'm considering this, I am on stock Sense and have TWRP so think good to go with that one, which I guess has those new features.
I'll just have to install my apps again eh.
Also read that 4.3 is notably faster too, so think I should upgrade to it

I think that rom in your link will work well for you! I was in no way advocating the OTA, just trying to help you do what you said you wanted to. In my opinion, if you're custom, you don't go back to stock for an OTA, so good choice! Good luck.....
yeah I know what you mean
I did just d/l that ROM and seemed decent but I've just restored my backup to Sense again, I didn't want to lose the Zoe functionality of the camera.
Probably keep on the old 4.2 for a while longer then and go without the features 4.3 offers

I don't think you can install a factory update via custom recovery. I might be wrong though. Someone smarter than me will surely chime in if I'm wrong.

If you're already on 4.2.2 I HIGHLY doubt you need it. IF it's a firmware update, then it might include things like a new screen touchpad update (which I don't recommend installing because it could possibly break your custom recovery) and a new radio file and irl. The most important part of that is the radio update and I wouldn't even really call it "important". More like USEFUL then anything else. So what you can do and what I recommend you do is: don't worry about your failed update. Find the latest radio.zip (flashable through custom recovery) file and install it. Let me know if you need help!

In order to receive and install an OTA update you need to have stock recovery... you have a custom recovery (CWM) which is why the update fails.
You have 3 options..... search, find and flash the stock recovery for your device, flash a custom rom based on 2.24.401.8 or stay as you are.
For radios this link is a list of all the radios released for the One, each can be flashed through CWM recovery.

[Q] HTC One update problems

Hi.
I have just bought a used HTC One running Android 4.1.2. It say there's an update available (2.24.401) which will bring it to 4.2.2 but I have trouble installing it.
The problem might be that the phone is already rooted and has TWRP installed. I have only very little experience with rooting and recovery tools
Anyway ... what happens is that I tell it to update and it restarts the phone. Instead of just rebooting it then enters TWRP and from then on I'm lost. I can get TWRP to reboot as system but after doing so the update is still not installed.
Is there anything I can do to get the update installed ?

As I implied I have little understanding of such matter You mean restore current version and break root ? As far as I know the device has just been rooted TWRP installed - no mod or anything other than the official updates seems to have been installed.
I would not mind installing the 4.2.2 manually but I'm not sure I could find the right file anywhere....
What is your current base? I.E. 1.29.xx.xx? What is it exactly? I mean, replace TWRP with the stock android recovery, which will allow the OTA to be installed.

I'll have to find out how to get stock android recovery I guess although I suspect it will not be easy.......
On the contrary, its very easy. Just download this: https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&s...eHtxo9aWWRhxLSSVA&sig2=hY-Jn2jnmzlavxWhe71R2g

One of the benefits to being s-off is you don't have to take the OTA...you just flash the firmware and done.

i did that and then i was unable to take profile or prl updates :crying: it also didnt apear to have fixed the signal issue... i might not have waited enough... or it could have something to do with the unability to take prl and profile updates... anyhow ill try again from a diferent download see what happens
Did your baseband change? last four should be .0610.
If it did change then it's most likely a network issue.

Yes the baseband did change but the signal problem persists. i need to take the FULL ota to fix my phone (or install something else that will) regardless the radios alone aren't fixing the issue.
i tried flashing the rafios by themselves and it wouldnt update prl or profile; it also had the same signal issue. i tried the radios AND the new stock rom for it and same thing. i tried going back to stock and taking the ota and the ota wouldnt install.
Thoughs?
I'm the same root/s-off. I flash the h/k sound file did you find a way to install the latest ota update?
I cant figure out how to get the OTA either
I have S-Off im also rooted, and i have TWRP recovery, i can't get the zip to flash. I was thinking about doing a stock root recovery using the RUU, but then i thought if i do that, would i still be able to reroot using the same method? so my question is, how can i flash this zip and keep my root? or should do a stock recovery from the RUU and update and wait for another root? if any devs read this, i'd really like your help please and thank you. I currently have the stock rom with just root access and S-Off.no custom roms on here.
man.. i have the same problem bro.. smh.. hey man keep me posted if something comes up

You have to have stock recovery to take the update, which means you have to flash stock recovery first and then take the update, then repeat the rooting process.

you should at least have seen a green arrow circle and/or a red triangle with a "!" in the middle. if you saw the triangle that is recovery trying and failing to update. at this point if you press and releast volumeup+power it should bring up the text of what it did.
