[Q] Kindle Fire HD vs other tablets - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I'm looking to replace my Nook HD with a new 7' tablet. I've read and seen what the Kindle Fire HD can do but i would like to ask whether there is another one "better" in terms of processor performance, battery life, screen resolution/quality and gaming capabilities. I'm thinking about the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and the Asus Fonepad. (I have disregarded the Nexus 7 as it's old and a new one is on the horizon)
Please advice.

Galaxy tab 3 is on its way out here shortly as well...
I own the galaxy tab 2, and it is my favorite but the screen is worse, and I think the speed is a bit less as well.
What the tab 2 does have is a huge dev section, usb otg, and external sd card and it is smaller/lighter.
Fwiw in argument on the favorite part my wife won't let me run cm10.1 on the kfhd...when you use the standard kindle app from Google play you lose the kindle tts ability in its app.
The kfhd is also a brick...you can't break the thing. the tab 2 seems breakable with its glass screen.

Talking about TTS, Ivona, the company behind the sensual internal voice of the Kindle, has been purchased by Amazon. http://www.ivona.com/en/news/amazoncom-announces-acquisition-of-ivona-software/
On the other side, comparing a stock Kindle with other stock tablets doesn't make justice to the machine, as Amazon deliberately masks its many potentials down the disguise of a cash register...
Put a Kinology rom on it and you'll enjoy a real and full of details racer....without losing the trading Amazon environment.
And yes, the Kindle app made for other androids doesn't have TTS on it, but Ivona works the same nicely on other much better readers from Market.

By better you mean readers that can't read kindle drm....

They are better, Moonreader, Coolreader for example, have multiple options that makes the reading more enjoyable.
Nor Kindles can read EPUBs, but that fearful DRM can be surpased(you have the right if you have purchased legally the book, and you have), you can convert from Kindle format to EPUB and reverse if you want, with a PC program called Calibre and a few secret hints that you can search.....

Cheap android tablet

I'm looking for a cheap tablet under £100 that's ideal for kids but there are hundreds can anybody tell me what the best ones are please
Thanks in advance

From my understanding...there aren't that many that are that cheap. I mean, if you count the Kindle, yes, the Kindle is a tablet (well, it's CALLED an e-reader, but it's running Android). And there are developers that have made Android as we know and love it available on the Kindle with a little modding and hacking. Anything else at that price range? Not that I know of.
too bad you missed out on the HP Touchpad fire sale at $99 US. It can be loaded with android os via CM7!
Thanks for the replys will keep a look out

New here and have a few questions

Hi there....just bought a gtab 10.1 I think it is too big.....but need some opinions. I have a smart phone that I love, and it does everything that the tab does. I like the idea of the tablet, I have 3 year old and she loves the games for it. Do you think I could do all of this from the 8.9? I bougt the 32, but think when and if I exchange it will be for the 16. I wont put any music on it, and probably not many pics. I have no idea of how to put movies on it. So I'm not sure I will need all that space. Anyone got from the 10.1 to the 8.9?

I have both and the 8.9 is the right size for me.

I had the 10.1 and returned mine for the 8.9 and could not be happier.

Good idea. For me, 8.9 is just the right size. Good luck!

Got the 8.9 absolutley loving it!

I spent two hours at Best buy playing around with both the 8.9 and the 10.1. I went in knowing that they both had the same specs and was going for comfort alone. The 8.9 is just so much more comfortable to use, especially when couch surfing while watching television. My 6 yr old has no trouble handling it for games or the occasional cartoon movies I put on it for her. I couldn't be happier.
8.9 is the way to go.
If you dont plan on using it to carry a lot of stuff, 16gb is fine. Im quite a power user and I have a 16gb tab (they didnt have the 32 in stock for me.) It's not often i find my self wishing for more space.
I use it primarily for
Manga (Manga Reader app)
Anime and foreign film (crunchy roll app, mobo player with arm7 codecs)
GPS Navigation (tethered to my evo)
I would love to see more 8.9" tablets on the market. Some competition would be nice.

[Q] Kindle fire HD with Amzon prime outside us

Hi All
this is my 1st post on XDA and I really really want to thank you all for the great help. I would like to ask if there is a way to use Amzon prime videos outside US using the same old app world wide kindle or any other solution. Any help is much appreciated
As I know, you can't. Cause it checks your location by IP as I understand...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
It remains to be seen if Amazon will offer streaming video to prime subscribers outside the US. I believe this decision will materially impact the success of this device in overseas markets.
Is there still no PPTP VPN support on the Kindle then?

I bought the kf hd at best buy on Friday and have a us amazon prime account. Everything was working great the lending library. Prime videos and app store. I just flew to ecuador and now the only usable app in my kf hd is the browser. I can't access app store, can't access movies, or anything related.
Now I have to side load all the new apps that I want to install
If you are going to use your Kindle fire outside the US I don't recommend you to buy it

And I'm bored....

I was really fired up about getting my N7. I got it, rooted it, flashed it, bricked it, fixed it, flashed it, and then loaded it with all of the best games and every emulator… 2 days later I’m now bored and have no use for it no more than my android phone… I might try running a virtual PC but…I’m a little sad I lost interest this quickly. What is everyone else using their tablets for that keeps them from collecting dust?
I use mine all the time for gaming, Web browsing, splash top, wifi remote control, browsing forums, news, entertaining my 2 year old, navigation, banking and managing all my rss download feeds on u torrent, I am sure there is more I do I am not thinking of too
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
If you truly loaded up the tablet with the best games you would still be playing them and wouldn't be bored after 2 days.
u could always get a comic book or ebook reader and read some stuff idk.
I bought mine primarily to replace my older Kindle so I could get books and magazines with photos that the Kindle sucks at. I like playing Angry Birds on it, but do that mostly on my phone. I also fly my AR Drone with it. I didn't buy it to be using it all day.

Almost 5000 posts since April? No wonder you can't find life.
I just keep trying the different emulators now for gaming but i dont spend a lot of time with the tablet in my hand at all
For me it's mostly the form factor. Browsing the web, reading text, etc. is very, very nice on a 7" screen and many games just look better and play better as well. Plus I love the fact that I can install Ubuntu naively on it and basically use it as a laptop replacement if I need to.

I actually expected that to happen with me. It didn't. My 7 pretty much replaced my laptop and took half the load off my phone. I never thought I'd like a tablet but ended up pleasantly surprised.

I use mine for Netflix, textbooks, and browsing in class. Pretty useful.

I use mine for the same reasons others have posted here, but I also have been tinkering with integrating my nexus into my (rather crude) home automation system driven by arduino. With an arduino, tasker, a bit of tinkering and programming, I'm able to open/close my garage door and control my lights with tasker using voice commands or tasker widgets on my home screen.
I have been an iPhone and ipad guy since they came out years ago and recently switched all of my devices over to nexus ones and can't be happier with the openness. When I do get a bit bored with it, I try to come up with an idea to use my nexus to make my life easier and hopefully learn something new along the way.
Good luck with your quest. And by the way, if any one is interested, I can probably throw up a tutorial describing how I achieved this.

Perish the thought.
As far as I'm concerned my phone is for when I leave the house, while my tablet is for everything else. If you're bored, then it's not the fault of the device, it just means that you don't have enough interesting content on it.

I used to be on my phone reading all the time and now its nice to have a 7 inch screen and more powerful hardware. I may never put mine down.

I have a nexus 7, it has a good purpose.
My computers purpose is to run high end software such as 3ds max and the adobe design suite, as well as a bunch of games.
My laptops purpose is to sit in my room until i buy it a new power cord, then its purpose is to be sold, or something...
My phones purpose is to text and call people, and when i dont have my tablet on me its so i can play games and sketch.
My tablets purpose is so i can browse the web, read books, play games i dont on the computer, and to be a digital sketchpad until i can afford a medium intuos 5.
Bored with your tablet? Find a purpose for it such as netflix, reading books, sketching, incessantly flashing software until you break it, etc.
