[Q] CRYSTAL ARMOR™ for Xperia Z - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xdadevelopers,
I'm new to the forums but I have been scrolling through numerous threads about tempered glass for your smartphone, especially for the Xperia Z. I'm looking for a good protection, front and back, whilst keeping a 'nude' phone.
I've seen a couple examples:
Let's start with the 'Glass t. from Spigen'. 'Only offering a glass protector for the front of the device. You do get a back protector but that is not a glass but a ultra crystal film I believe. Also, I read that the Glass t. has a problem with chipping, the Glass tR. is not yet released but is in the works a should fix this problem.
Second I saw 'Bodyguardz' but they do not over a protection for the XZ. After that I saw 'Brando Workshops', who do offer rounded edges for some devices including the XZ but again no back protection.
But then my I caught this 'CRYSTAL ARMOR™ for Xperia Z' , they do offer a 9H hardness glass protector for both the front and the back, I believe 0,25mm thick (each sheet). The price is quite high at 6,300 Yen and yet again I believe this product has no rounded edges so chipping might again be a problem. I saw a video on YouYube that it does fit in the docking station from Sony, however I have never read a review of the 'CRYSTAL ARMOR™ for Xperia Z'.
The problem here is, I do not understand Japanese, I do understand some words but I can't read it. All the reviews are spoken or written in Japanese so I was wondering of any of you have seen, experienced or own this 'CRYSTAL ARMOR™ for Xperia Z' ?
As I mentioned before I do worry about chipping based on the pictures I've seen who seem to show me a glass without rounded edges. But it does seem to have cutouts.
I think I saw this protector earlier on xdadevelpers but I have not read any review.
(I can't post a link because I'm too new, Google should bring you to a website though)
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
P.S. Please forgive me if I've made errors in my text, English is not my native language.

Thanks for the reply, I might give this one a shot.
For ten dollar I get a front and back protector for the Xperia Z.
If you do have this screen protector, do you mind telling me how it is?
-How is the feel? Rubbery or Glass
-Is it really scratch resistant for normal use
Did some quick research and apparently there are a lot of coupon codes on the web for discounts.
Now I only need to find one for free shipping

xtremeguard? it feel a little rubbery but it works great for 11 bucks i got 3 full body (front and back)

should be moved to Xperia Z Accessories
This looks like a nice alternative to the Brando glass and the sgp glass t. A bit pricey at 6300yen, but you are getting front and back glass.
Also it states at .4mm thickness, so it may get thick with both applied. Has rounded edges tho.

Help choosing a screen protector

Hi everyone, I just bought a Xperia X1 and this is my first post on the forum so be gentle
I'm really enjoying my X1 experience, so I don't want it to suffer any harm. I haven't got any screen protector yet, so it has never got out of home. Or is in my hand or is in the case where it comes, so I'm going nuts to take it out of home with me, so I really need help choosing a good screen protector.
This is my first touchscreen cell phone and I realised that is very easy to the screen to get a awfull grease "skin", so I would like to make my choose on 3 characteristics:
1) less fingerprint friendly than the screen
2) quality picture not very different from the one without screen protector
3) usable at direct sunlight
After a lot of search I' thinking of one of these products:
Bodyguardz Full Body
The screen is optical clean, has a good touch feeling and is made of anti-scratch/sel-healing material. From what I read it prevents fingerprints/smugdes a bit, but I don't have any ideia if that bit would be good enough. I'm also worried if it is usuable at direct sunlight.
SGP Shield
This pack comes with a clear protector. I'm a bit afraid of this tipe of screen protectors because they usually smudge too much. Once again I'm worried about it's usuability at direct sunlight.
Steinheil Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint
I'm a bit divided about what to think on this one, as I read both good and bad things. They seem to act good as anti-fingerprints, but it seems they are hard to use under direct sunlight.
Brando PDA Screen Protector (anti-glare)
I read good things about the this ones and I would be willing to give them a try. Are they a good anti-scratch protection? How is the image quality with them?
DC MUGEN MATTE (anti-glare & anti-fingerprint)
The cheapest of the ones I've selected. I saw a video at youtube where it seems they act good as anti-fingerprint, not as much as anti-glare. I'm worried if this would be a good protection against scratches and if it would allow a good image quality.
The two first are "full body" sets and that is a pro but please don't take them as a decision factor. I have already bought a case (expecting deliver), so I'll have the phone body protected. I only put them here because I think it's a better deal to give more 10$ for the "full" set instead of the "screen only" as I might don't like to use the case I've boughted.
Please feel free to comment your experience with this screen protectors, you're advice is very important to my.
I don't know about BodyGuardz, but do not buy the Zagg/Invisible Shield full protector. It sounds like the material is the same: it is very "sticky", leaves fingerprints and does not give good feedback on the screen.
Best to go for the traditional screen protectors. I bought one from Boxwave, similar to the Brando one (which I used on a previous phone, excellent).
Unless anti-glare is a key requirement of yours, I would go for the crystal-clear variant. With glare, you can always tilt the phone away from the source of light (or up the screen brightness if you plan to be outdoors & using the phone). Anti glare looks less clear indoors.
I find most of my screen use is indoors. I happily pay €10-15 per protector, and think it will last 9-12 months, depending on use.
Thanks for the reply =)
Yes I know that the zagg screen protectors aren't a good deal, but for what I read the Bodyguardz are alot better for the screen, as they don't have that orange peel texture, they don't get yellow and they don't distort image, neither creates color aberrations. I really demand a anti-glare protector, just want it to be as usuable as the screen is outdoors. I just want to fingerprints to be less noticeble (and protect the screen obviously ) and for that anti-glare protectors seems to work better than the clear ones.
I've always used Boxwave ever since my Treo 600
http://www.boxwave.com/products/easyfinder/buy-best-sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-accessories_3351.htm
Martin Fields
I've done MArtin Fields, I've done generic matte, and I've seen the light with the Boxwave glossy screen protector. It is excellent with a great fit, and reliability. I've had mine for a year now on the X1, and it is still going strong with just one half a centimeter scratch on the protector after all this time. The best part is you don't even know that it's there.
Thanks to all that have answerd so far =)
About Martin Fields I read some good things about them, but I saw some people complain about how easy scratchable they are, even nails using the touch screen, would scratch them. Maybe it was a bad shipment.
Boxwave screen protector for what I've searched it seems a good product, maybe I'll give them a try.
Please feel free to continue giving you're opinion

I'm pretty satisfied with this cheap protector - I bought two of them, just in case. Very easy to apply - fits perfectly.
The problem with this cheap protectors is that usually they require a "luck factor". If you are lucky you get a very good product, or you have just burned a few bucks.
I use the Steinheil LCD Protection Film Premium, specifically cut for the X1, available on ebay. no matter of opinion, no argument, this is the best. you can't tell it's on the screen, doesn't impair responsiveness, it will never scratch, and wipes grease away perfectly. i love it

I agree, but the brand linked to a few posts back is one of the good ones at a cheap price.
EDIT: I just got these today; http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23639
Delivered to the UK 9 days after ordering. The feel of the screen is actually better/smoother with both finger and stylus than the bare screen. Very much recommended. Better than screen protectors costing 10 times the price that I've tried.

Did you get the crystal glossy screen protector or the anti-fingerprint matte screen? I can't decide which would look better on my phone.

[Q] Focus Screen Protector Recommendations

Would like to go with the Lexerd but only the Anti-glare version is available on Amazon... any idea when the Crystal Clear version is available?
There is the one made by Amzer; yet reviews are not great. Any other options?
ATT is selling full body (front and back only) screen protectors from InvisibleShield.

But Zagg doesn't list them as available on their web site yet. I'm not as interested in a screen protector as I am having Zagg cover the back of my phone. Their product is great. I like the gripping feel of it. The screen of the focus is Gorilla Glass so that why I'm not going to cover it.
Do you have a reference link to the Focus being built with Gorilla Glass?
Att has a zagg shield thats a dry install and is pretty nice. Its not as grippy as the wet but feel similar.

I installed the InvisibleShield on my Focus. I really like the matte finish on the back. I took it to the booth in the mall and had the invisibleshield guy install it for me for free (usually like $7, i think.) Just FYI, it may be a dry protector, but you can still install it as if it were wet.

No one would be happier than I if that is true.
However, I am suspicious that the tweet is the only reference to it.

This came straight from the Corning webpage:
"Corning’s Gorilla glass has been designed into more than 240 models by 24 major brands. Due to customer agreements the following list is only a sampling."
They could just be slow at updating their site... at least lets hope so lol.

I like it, I'm just not sure that I *trust* it . I've got several buddies with iPhone 4, at least 3 of whom have scratches on their screens
Scratch
Well then I have a defective screen because I have a scratch
I'd feel better with a protector on it myself.
I was looking at the Skinomi. Has anyone used them before? Most of the reviews on other phones seem mostly positive. They have both a screen protector and a full body protector.

Mine should be here any day now. I got the full phone covering. I'll report back...
Zagg is now supporting the Focus...
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...es-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
I've used Zagg on my last 2 phones and highly recommend it. It is really great stuff. You can argue that you don't need this with the Focus screen, but if you still want one, I would go with Zagg. The most important thing is to follow the installation instructions exactly.
My recommendation is NOT buy the Full Body coverage... just get the Screen Coverage. Get a nice case instead. Zagg can (not always) start peeling very slightly on the edges from repeated rubbing with your hand. I've seen this happen on 2 of my friends phones who had full body coverage. The good thing is, Zagg will send you out a new one free, no questions asked (you do have to pay shipping though). They are pretty good about it. Also, if you don't like it, it is removable.
I went ahead and ordered the Zagg. 14.99 isn't bad even with the 2.99 shipping. I don't feel comfortable until I get something to protect this screen.
I got the Skinomi. I followed the instructions and still ended up with a lot of bubbles\wrinkles. Also I'm not sure that the "full body" skin is even needed. I certainly can't see how the side pieces are supposed to fit around the buttons and headphone jack anyway.
I give this product a huge thumbs down. A waste of $20.
Thank you for the heads up. I ordered the Invisibleshield instead. Hopefully, this will fit the bill.

Yes the ultra crystal works great with the s-pen . (Mine came yesterday)
I just ordered ultra Crystal should be here soon.
Regurgitated From My Giant Note II
I got the Oleophobic after a lot of reading of reviews, and am very happy with it. I like to have a protector that I don't know is there, because the screen is so beautiful. I didn't think the anti-fingerprint thing was important, but it sure is nice. The S pen works fine and I don't have to worry about whether or not, over time, it will mark the glass. I thought it was kind of expensive, but I'm glad I got it, and the price is for 2.
Just put the ultra crystal on this morning and it's perfect! I have the seidio surface combo coming tomorrow so that should do until otterbox decides to release the defender.
I went Ultra Crystal and you don't even notice it on there.
Can someone please post pictures of the Ultra Clear and the Oleophobic on the actual Note 2? I am trying to decide which to get but SGP is a bit on the pricey side but I need a good one. Please help out guys
No one tried the Ultra Fine?!?! Anyways I'll report my comment once reception.
From reading through multiple threads and forums (aside from XDA)
My understanding is this:
Ultra Crysal: Thicker (better against scratches), more fingerprints.
Ultra Oleophobic: Thinner (not as good against scratches), easier to remove fingerprints
I ordered the crystal with my Amazon Prime and I should get it when my phone comes in from my pre-order (weather permitting).

I've bought three Spigen covers three different times from Amazon and received a legitimate product each time. SGP sells their products directly through Amazon.
I actually just received my Ultra Crystal covers today for my Note 2. It is very, very clear like the Ultra Nano I had for my GS3, but it is a little bit thicker. It does show a lot of fingerprints but I've conceded that this is just to be expected with these types of screen protectors. The S Pen works without any issues as well.
Thanks for the input guys...Need to find a good case now
My Ultra Fine has an awful rainbowy effect, I'm extremely disappointed with it and will probably get an ultra crystal or oleophobic instead.

A quick google and I found there is compatible issue w/ s-pen so I ordered crystal instead via amazon. Got it last night and another confirmation that the crystal work ok with the note2 and s-pen.
The protector is slightly smaller than the glass but larger than the screen. the screen no longer get finger printed easily but your finger won't glide as smooth as non-protected screen and so is the s-pen. This may matter if you do art work on the GN2, so that goes a fair warning.
Got the oleophobic and am very happy with it. Good thing there were 2 because I messed up the installation on the 1st one.

No reason to take a photo of the Ultra Crystal. It probably wouldn't show up with out special lenses on an expensive camera. it's more or less invisible to the naked eye and run of the mill camera. Just look at your phone now. That's what it will look like after you put it on (assuming you do it correctly). If you want to see it after application, just to verify it hasn't fallen off without you noticing, you can look real closely and see its border at the outside edge of the top and bottom bezels and around the home button. In practice you will forget all about it and for all practical purposes it is invisible. You may feel a tiny bit more drag with the S-pen when you first put it on or after cleaning with alcohol but once you get a little finger oil on it it's just like glass. Trust me, applied correctly you won't know it's there until it performs its primary purpose and takes the damage that would have scratched your screen. A second screen is included in the package for that inevitable eventuality.

I am in the US and already have my Z3TC since last week but I'm using it with the plastic that it had because I have'nt bought a screen protector. Sony store doesn't have any acessories for it yet I'm waiting for a case and a screen protector and also the game control mount to be available. There is a tempered glass screen protector I found on Amazon but I don't know if it's any good because there are no reviews yet.
Here is the link: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NA8D7S6/ref=pd_aw_sbs_2?pi=SY115&simLd=1
There's another one too: www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NGXH8WQ?pc_redir=1412930863&robot_redir=1
Thanks guys!
Here's another one from Roxfit I'll update the first thread!
I've been using a VSTN glass protector for a week, and think it's quite decent.
BTW, does z3tc have anti-shatter film? I installed the protector without taking look at it.
Cool

You bought the VSTN screen protector on Amazon right? Was it easy to install?
I think since the Z2 sony doesn't put the anti-shatter film anymore because people hated it.
Yes, I guess there's no more ASF on Z3x because of the Z1. I'll look to it when I receive mine.

Has anyone managed to find a tempered glass screen protector in UK for the tab z3 com
Has anyone managed to find a tempered glass screen protector in UK? I've searching for them for about a week and no has tempered glass screen protector for the Tab z3 Compact. Everyone has the standard plastic one's. I've even contacted a few suppliers on Amazon and eBay but no luck
I'm using the Sony oficial one, I've ordered when order the tablet plus the free white case.
So far I don't have complains. Really thin, clear, no bubbles, and good for typing/use/click.
12€ is not bad for a oficial one, but remember is only one SC if you screw up well 12€ for trash. Most officials ones on my country are like 19€ pack of 2sc, hope Sony does in future some of those packs.
I got this one here off ebay, Free shipping also, still waiting for it to arrive.

You're link is broken
I bought the official screen protector, well it does the work nothing more, nothing less. It is still painful to put flawlessly as usual (w/o any dust, or hair between the screen and the film). It's seems to be resistant to fingerprints, a simple wipe with a microfiber towel will clean the film.
Cheers

Just ordered one from there as well. Hope it's a decent piece of glass that matches up with the screen nicely.

How about this one just a touch over £5 for a glass screen protector

Just got it in the mail today (finally) and put it on. It was packaged great, wouldn't worry about it breaking during shipment (they included a capacitive stylus too which was nice). Install was easy, just take your time lining it up and use the guide stickers once you have it lined up to keep it there for an easier install.
The fit is okay. The hole for the proximity sensor could have been a little higher but it works. Its fills the tablet from top to bottom snug but the sides are slightly small but not bad at all.
The edges don't seem to be rounded like some other tempered glass protectors I have gotten but they aren't sharp. Sticks up just a little when on as expected.
Overall I'm happy with it. Price was good but shipping took almost a month.

Original Sony Protector
I went for the original Sony one & found it better than I expected tbh. It's got a slight anti-glare finish to it that I wouldn't normally choose but it works really well.
Might just have been lucky, but I found it really easy to install, compared to others I've fitted to my other devices.
On the whole I think I'd recommend it. I was going to use this until I found a good tempered glass one, but I'm starting to think there's little point changing it.

Pelosi Sandstone Protective Hard Cover

I searched and did not find a thread on this. I was originally going to opt in to buy the Nillkin slim case but it did not cover the bottom and top parts of the phone.... but this one does! So in case anyone is looking for a slim case, with a great feel to it that adds a bit of grip (due to the sandstone feel), this is the case for you. I have it paired with a BestSkinsEver screen protector and I have no issues with it.

Can be bought here. Alternatively, I have seen it for sale on AliExpress as well.

Does it have a lip to protect the front screen?

There is, but it's minimal. Can still feel the "groove" when I run my fingers over the edges and onto the screen itself w/ my screen protector on.

I own this case and I've dropped my phone twice on a hard surface and all was well, got an orzly v2 also, I will buy another when it's a bit more worn
Is it better than Spigen ?
@mzkaye729
Can I request that you post some more close up shots of the front of the phone with the case on? I'm particularly interested in how much the lip covers the screen.
I wanted the sandstone case but couldn't justify the price that OnePlus was selling theirs for.
Thanks
Had that cover, its ok, but the only problem I had with it, when removing from pocket, it pulls my pocket out, because it sticks with it.

1) The material is different (TPU vs. hard case).
2) The slim factor is different (the Spigen case is thicker, longer, and wider).
3) The Spigen case will most likely protect more than this Pelosi case.
So if you're going for slim factor, get this case but if you want protection for your phone, I believe you're better off with the Spigen case.

I'll try and take some pictures tonight and upload them so you can see (unless someone gets to do this first before I can).
What is your opinion on the BestSkinsEver screen protector? Is it similar to a regular PET screen protector? How good is the oleophobic coating on it and the translucency of it compared to the stock or third-party screen protectors?

I am a little biased because I have installed BSE protectors on electronics/phones I have owned, as long as BSE offers the option to as I think it is a fantastic product (good value for the money, shipping is extremely cheap to Toronto, Canada). It's not the same as a regular PET screen protector. I think you're talking about those plastic protectors but I find those scratch easily, and also, the application is different. I have yet to put a deep or noticeable scratch on a BSE skin but again, this depends on how you handle the phones/electronics. I even have this BSE skin on my Pebble watch and that thing takes a beating. Still no scratches visible on the screen protector itself on the watch.
I don't believe there's any oleophobic coating at all on the BSE skin, and if there is, super minimal that I don't even notice it ? With that said, I don't think it's fair for me to comment on the "oleophobic coating" (or maybe lack thereof) because I don't typically handle my phone if I have handled (oily) food. With regular use, I don't notice much fingerprints so it's not something that has jumped out at me.
I have had no issues with yellowing, and the "orange peel" look is VERY VERY minimal compared to something like XtremeGuard (the yellowing issue/orange peel was horrible on that). I had this BSE on my Note 4; had no issue with the S-pen gliding on it. The glossy screen protector from BSE won't cut into the clarity of the phone's display so that's not something to worry about. I have tried glass screen protectors and OK, maybe you can tell side-by-side the difference in clarity by a little bit, but typically, the glass protectors are used for drop protection. I prefer the BSE because the fingerprints on the glass bother me, and my main concern are scratches on the screen, not a shattered screen *knock on wood*.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to post this.
Looks like it offers very little protection on the front side though so I will be sticking with my Spigen Rugged. If only this phone was more popular, manufacturers would make more cases. I get jealous of iPhones for having all the cool phone cases.
Thanks again!
