[SOLVED] How to backup Notes (Stock i9000b 2.3.6, Notes app)? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I upgraded to an HTC One and I need to get my Notes (over 200) to my new phone.
I have the regular "Notes" app that came with a stock 2.3.6 rom I upgraded it too, but I remember the old iterations also having that exact same "Notes" app. I was exporting them one by one to my PC. But figured there should be a better way. I know most backup programs simply don't backup notes.
I also know there's a way to do it via ES-File Explorer with root access, which my phone has. But I don't know what's next. I tried to search the forums and could find much of help.
Thank you very much in advance.

I'm not kidding and these are the proper forums. Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. The phone I need to save my notes from is a Samsung Galaxy S i9000b. What other forums should I be looking in, androidforums?
Unhelpful and plain jerky people like you are the only problem about being a newbie anywhere. It drives potentially valuable users away from nice and healthy online communities. Seen it quite a bit elsewhere.
Can some moderator or kind user have the amiability to at least point me in the direction where I could fool myself with a vague hope of getting any help, please?
I wouldn't be asking if I could on my own.

Thank you very much for your reply. I've been using Titanium Backup for quite a while as well, but mostly for uninstalling unneeded apps. I don't think the new Notes app is compatible with the old one, so I don't know of how much use would force-copying program's memory file (looks like a single one, unless I don't even know where to look) with Titanium Bk be.
I was thinking of maybe an app that converts those notes to some other or more usable format. Even better if it upgrades them to some other Notes program file. Uploading those notes online wherever could also work. Or perhaps a way to manage those from Kies. If I knew it would had come to this, I would had used any note app from the very beginning...

so i change my notes app (download any from gstores) that suitable for any version of android n one can backup all in on click
n start copying again 1 by 1 (really takes my time) so... i m sorry but i dont have any method other that as i dont even know why is it that hard juz to copy a mere notes i listed (d**n samsung app)

Try copying your notes to Colornote, sync the notes through, copy them back.

The copying the notes part is the one I'm trying to avoid. I did downloaded Colornote and it does looks really sweet.
But I checked and I have 211 notes to copy and would hate to have to do it one by one. So far, the best I've got is a smm file from Kies with all my notes in it. However, I haven't been able to find a single way to open this file in Windows, change its extension or how to export it to any app in Android.

Okay, I digged around settings and stuff for a bit, and under Settings -> Wireles and Network -> Synchronise there is an option to create a profile to sync memos (assumingly the stock memo app obviously). Haven't found this feature until now, so you could try play around with it?

Hey, that actually did helped! Didn't found that option you are telling me about, but found a way to Sync the Notes in the phone with those in Outlook via Samsung Kies (using latest Kies version, 2.5.3.13043_14).
Once that is done, it's pretty much problem solved.
What would come next is to put them online (can be done with Google or several other apps; I used Evernote, as my HTC came with it) and download them to the new phone. Anyone else needing additional details now, in a couple months, or a few years from now, please feel free to send me a PM.

Delete the Google back-up??

Can't seem to find an answer to this. I had to get a replacement DHD (1st one had a very loose camera) and really wanted to have a fresh start with the new phone - no apps, etc. Since I had the backup thing checked on the 1st phone, the 2nd phone reloaded all the apps from the 1st phone. I've tried the various resets (with backup turned off), but nothing gets me back to a blank, clean phone.
Keep in mind that I'm not talking about the Contacts or Gmail being pulled in (that's fine) - I just don't want the apps & settings from the 1st phone. Uninstalling the apps doesn't quite get me to a clean install. Anyone know of a way to delete/turn off that backup that's sitting in the Google cloud?

The stock 2.2 rom from DHD
I've had the same problem, and as far I know there is no way to do it. There is a simple workaround, but you will have to disable backup all together:
1. Reset your device,
2. When first time setup will come on, set up your DHD BUT dont enter Gmail settings (for now).
3. Once done go into 'Settings', then 'Privacy' and UNCHECK box next to 'Back up my settings' and 'Automatic restore'.
4. Once done, set up your Gmail account (either manually or starting 'Setup' from All apps).
This seems to be the only way for now, and to be honest I'm quite shocked there is no easy way to manage backups from a pc/phone.
PS: I hope there is a better way - if somebody know one, then please share it with us.
You could also just sign in with a new google account.

You could, but most of us would like to keep the "old" one (for obvious reasons).
There are 2 ways to do it. The reason why it reload all the apps is becoz Ur gmail ID stores Ur download list for the market.
1. When u hard rest don't sign in to gmail. Let the setup finish. Once that's done open market place, it will ask u to sign in. As soon as u complete the sign in go to downloads. There u will c ur apps installed list, which will start to download automaticly. Click on each one and cancel the installation. There, ur list is clean now. U don't really need to do a hard rest after this but should do just Incase.
2. Goto market then to downloads and uninstall every thing and hard rest and ur back to a clean phone.
as I had the same issue, The first method worked for me.

i've posted a question on googles help forum,
See if that get any suggestions...
any real answer to this yet or is there some type of pc/phone management for this??
It should ask for restoring from Google account while setting up the phone.
Just after the location server setting, I think.
Then just uncheck it.

[Q] Samsung Mini Diary App

Ive installed Slim ICS on my wifes galaxy s.
She misses the mini diary app that was present on the stock rom. I have done many searches and found posts on this forum and others.
I have obtained a few MiniDiary.apk files form the internet and copied them to system/app using root explorer, and changed the permissions etc, but I have not managed to get this app to work.
Is there any way to achieve this? Have I been using the wrong apk files?
The stock rom she had was XXJVO. She would also be happy with the MiniDiary app from my S2 if it would be possible to get that to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
147 views and no repies?
Did I post in the wrong section?
Thanks.
It's impossible. I really liked that app too, but there's no way to get it working on a non-touchwiz rom. Even flashing one of those touchwiz framework packages didn't work. So you have two choice. Either go back to a Touchwiz rom (so non-AOSP), or find another app replacement (IMHO there's no good replacement on the market).
I like the app also. When I rooted my phone its gone. But what I am suggesting is you can get a Diary App vias Play Store. I bet they have alot there..

Trust me. I have Looked, and none of them is as nice
Knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
Thanks for your clear and concise answers. I had also tried one of those touchwiz frameworks too.
I too have trawled the play store for something similar but like you found nothing as good as the mini diary app. I'm sure I can find something that will make do.
wrong time
Hi I downloaded mini diary from the Samsung store and for today it shows a time - the 2 other entries don't. The issue is only that on the entry that does show the time it is 2 hours behind. The phone shows the correct time though.
I'm using Samsung galaxy s3 on latest official .nz firmware, I'm saying new Zealand because Im in .nz and live in .nz etc.
How can I fix this, the only setting I could see was location and weather .
have u tried this way:

im looking for the app too, but im totally noob maybe u can do it!

[Q] Similar apps to 'AirDroid'

ok as the title suggests.... anyone of you know of any apps similar to AirDroid? Ive tried using it and 8 out of 10 times i cannot seem to log in to the webclient to connect my phone....
Please note, im not looking for solutions to this problem here.... just alternative apps that does the same thing more or less....
thanks in advance
There's a app called browsix that I've used before, it doesn't have the nice interface AirDroid does but its has half the features of it. You can find it on the market.
Just thought I'd suggest it.
Tried that one but still can't get it to work properly maybe its something to do with my Wi-Fi.... using Wi-Fi file explorer for now tho..... seems to be ok
search button..... just do it.....
try file expert. it has a feature like tht.
bt nt as good as airdroid
Was abt to download that and give it a shot then I read further into the reviews and although it got good ratings, there were reports of spam and huge battery drain.... sigh... airdroid is still the best so far but for the life of me I can't figure out what's wrong with me connecting to the website.... seriously anyone else using airdroid?
search button..... just do it.....
so u r trying to http://web.airdroid.com/ or locally?
ur firewall might block the port
for me, both local and website works fine
The website link is useless for me, the only times I got on it were on the 192.11 etc even that is not stable for me firewall is ok as using other almost similar apps manage to log me on easily
search button..... just do it.....
You might wanna try ES Explorer, since the last updates, it got the SD card sharing function, and with that became the best file manager for me.
i am using es, but does it let you control your phone and its contents from your computer?
Is it possible to transfer data with an FTP server like airdroid or something?
Or can I just access my phones data?
sent via tapatalk
-delete-
Try websharing app, it has good user interface
With lite version you can upload single file at a time, with full version you can upload bulk files, folder etc. Full version have some nice features.
With airdroid I also have sometimes auto disconnect problem
Sorry for bad english

It does. Check the Remote Manage box in Settings > Remote Settings.
It has been 6 months I dont know if you found anything but I can reccomend a great app just like AirDroid.
It's called SnapPea and its truly awesome. Been using it for some time now and its really great.
Webkey
Not sure if this one has been mentioned but Webkey is astonishingly powerful. Needs root but can connect through various networks; I use it when airdroid won't work. The PC side is just a webpage. Address is http://webkey.cc and you get the app from the Market.
I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to share something I discovered.
Not sure if it has changed yet, but I was using Opera web browser a couple of months ago, and AirDroid does not work with that browser...just an FYI
Cool!
Airdroid 2.0 is awesome!
But the below two are very good as well!

Why isn't Google backing up my WIFI passwords!?

Howdy people...I'm not sure why, but google seems not to ever want to store my wifi passwords. Stock GB..never worked...CM10 doesn't work. I'm currently running the excellent leaked stock ICS...why does google recover everything else but my passwords? (and yes I have the box ticked to enable backups) is there anyway I can explore my account server to retrieve them? The landlord of local is getting racked off with me asking every time I mess about and install a new ROM! Help much appreciated.
Titanium Backup can do it but I don't know if that's in the free version, you can also just make a .txt and put it on your external sd card.
On cm where is the problem to look into data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file?
And write down the password? LoL...

same here, I use Titanium Backup (pro)
for me it used to work on CM7
but it didn't on the experimental CM9 builds or on CM10
I did sometimes, isn't it?
Don't really know why, but it's the same for me with the automatic app recovery after full wipe.
Sometimes they get restored, sometimes not. Same with the WIFI psswds.
It says during initial screens but it never did seems like bug ...
they've never been recovered with me. I've had the phone for 6months or so.. It's a bit of a pain. I keep flashing new roms but you'd have expected them to sync in the same way as with contacts etc! anyway. It would just be great to know whether it's my phone playing up or my Google account. It has to be one of the two... I'm guessing ill never know as it seems you can't check what is actually stored on the Google server.

[Q] Backing up

So...
The question here...coming from iPhone...
How or what is the best way to backup your note 3?
using iTunes was seemless. Plug and play basically.
Kies offers that but for some reason it just doesnt work right on my mac. Ive tried on 3 different macs and its the same thing.
I even tried Kies in a VM in windows on a mac and its unreliable at best.
Suggestions???

Here's a suggestion, sell your mac's!
On a serious note, what are you trying to backup?
The best overall "device" backup is called a "nandroid" backup but requires a custom recovery.
To backup contacts, gmail is the best. Coupled with Google drive all your pics and documents can be backed up in one place.
Personally I use a western digital network drive (personal cloud). All my pics, videos, and music are automatically backed up by themselves. I can access them ANYwhere!
Other people might recommend other apps like Dropbox.

Oh one more thing, Google play music is awesome for music! It gives you 10,000 songs worth of free cloud storage so you can access your music on ANY device!

I'm sorry to say that kies is exactly what you're looking for. Kies has saved my butt numerous times over the years. I like to root and flash custom roms. Sometimes things don't go right and kies was there to fix me up! When I changed over from note 1, to note 2, to note 3, kies transferred everything I needed. It sucks that your having trouble with it. Maybe a mac user will come along with some tips or suggestions.
Just so you know... Google playstore keeps track of ALL the apps you've ever installed. If you click the menu and go to "my apps" it shows 2 tabs. One is installed currently, the other tab is what you've previously installed. So it can jog your memory about that app you previously installed 4 yrs ago! Also under the settings menu in the general section there's a "backup and reset" section. If you have those items checked and change roms, all your apps will start to re-install themselves. You can even view installed apps, and install new apps from a computers webpage https://play.google.com/store?hl=en&tab=w8 Just sign in with the same google account that's on your device.

Ok so...I went to google play store to see what you were talking about. There is an installed tab and an all tab. So I knew about that its cool...
In the backup part under general I have it set to backup my data IE wifi settings and app data and other settings to google servers. I havent needed to restore yet. Im assuming that when there is a restore its almost like youre using the phone exactly how it was prior to the restore.
Also I was looking at gobackup? or titanium backup? Thoughts on those?
IDK also maybe my text message folder might be real large could be hanging up stuff too? I never delete the texts and mms.
I've never used gobackup before, so I can't comment on that. Titanium is awesome! BUT, you must be rooted and if you don't know what your doing, you can botch your phone up pretty quick!

Okay. Rooting your device might be the best bet. Its quite simple and is done in a matter of clicks. You would then be able to create a nandroid backup and use Titanium Backup. As 440bro stated, root and TB are very powerful and should not be toyed with aimlessly - you could really mess up your phone. This topic makes me realize that google should really implement a standard way of backing everything up because this is ridiculous! (but they will probably use Google+ :/)
Anyone have a quick how to backup without screwing up your phone suggestions? Using Titaniumbackup or nandroid?
Thanks
Bump
thanks
Hmmm
I wonder if kies is crashing because I have over 14000 sms and mms on my phone???
I never had good luck with Mac and android in general. Even VMWare won't cut it. I eventually built a cheap windows machine and all I use it for is my android devices. Sorry couldn't be more help.
