[ROM][AOSP] [Nightly/Release] CarbonRom JB [XT925/XT926] - RAZR HD Android Development

About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

BLUE Flicker?! - Try disabling HW overlays (Settings --> Developer options --> "Drawing" Section)
Some (not all) seem to experience issues with GPS. If you have issues with GPS, please flash the official JB from Moto/your provider and then flash CM10.1. GPS should work now. (I've also heard you can just flash back to stock, get a lock, then flash Carbon again...)
While capturing a picture to send via MMS, ensure HDR is deselected - Gallery will cause a force close if HDR is enabled!! (Note - HDR works for normal still photos, just not MMS.)
Update Google Search (manual update), or else any voice searches will fail with FC. Update the app, and it is resolved.

Alright folks! I have submitted the merge requests, I really hope they make it for tonight's run of nightlies... if not I can upload the build I rolled as a test if needed, no worries!

Looks good buddy...Glad to see it released for RHD!

Yep, it will basically have the same issues CM10.1 suffers from. It seems to be a kernel issue, shared across all the msm8960 moto devices...
I updated the buglist. Please let me know if there's anything that needs to be added (or removed?)
Enjoy!

Glad to see some more attention being brought to this device!! Nicely done. :good:

an officially supported rom. nightly updates. I think I might finally switch from slimrom!

There's a halo build for the xt925 if anybody wants to try it. Check out carbons g+ page.

Good find, I think they've done almost all of the devices with at least one Halo build now...
Benefits of being official :highfive:

I guess you mean Halo builds? There's nightlies for XT926, but obviously not Halo.
Hopefully they are opened up a bit more as the code matures. I'm not even "allowed" to build 'em, so what are you going to do...

I've heard my kernel works as well. Just FYI... There's stock & CM, you'll want to grab the CM kernel.

Did not know there was another kernel. That's pretty sweet.
I'm just in the habit of flashing Bytecodes with ROMs.....
Is your kernel updated with the latest from DHacker also?
The main reason I liked Bytecodes is because he added intelli-plug from Faux kernels and disabled M-Precision.

As fully functional as can be at this point.
I can take video, just can't play it back. When I stop recording the camera freezes. I have to use the home button then into recent and erase all. Then I can go back into camera.

My kernel is fully updated with razrqcom's msm8960 moto kernel, and I keep it updated.
Intelli-plug is a governor? Always open to new things. Also haven't heard of M-Precision

Intelli-Demand is the governor. Intelli-plug is Faux's hot plugging he made.
M-Precision or M-Percision is Qualcomm's hot plugging.
In Faux's kernel he made for the S3 he disabled Qualcomm's hot plugging and made his own.
In my opinion Intelli-Demand is the best governor.
I was off.... Its the MPDecision. Faux removed that.

And how much of a divergence is this jb rom to the one released earlier by a similar team with linaro?
Re: [ROM][AOSP][LINARO] CarbonRom JB 4.2.1 [i9300] » Feb 6
Just downloaded and had a quick look, seems to be pretty much identical to liquid smooth apart from a few changes. Smooth and clean rom. I also like the boot animation, has a sort of retro feel to it.
Good Rom
Smooth and fast.. one thing you should know is that when i flash Siyah kernel the device boot into black screen and won't start. keep up the good work man.
Does this rom have the sudden death fix and the exynos-mem fix? im pretty much sure it has but just want to be on the safe side.:good:
Re: [ROM][AOSP][LINARO] CarbonRom JB 4.2.1 [i9300] » Feb 6
I think we should also thank the original post because whether you are going to use the rom or not it deserves a thanks because it can be difficult making a rom and living upto everyone's expectations. Well done devs.
Re: [ROM][AOSP][LINARO] CarbonRom JB 4.2.1 [i9300] » Feb 6
Impressive ROM even just been using it for only a couple hours. The only thing bugging me at the moment is the tethering, using wpa/wpa2, other device can't connect to it, had to use open (and i hate it as anyone can freely connect to it).
Many thanks for the ROM!

Very nice. Dirty flash over Rootbox with no problems apart from android.process.acore giving me FC's - easily fixed by clearing data on both Contacts and Contact Storage in Apps.
Has the kernel been optimised in anyway only I note that it defaults to 1600Mhz so figured it had - see no point in flashing another kernel if this one isn't just the plain old CM one.
Just waiting on your Grouper release now.....

in case anyone is wondering, the delay in seeing the boot animation is due to added support for boot audio. we haven't included any in there, but if you want, you can do so by placing any mp3 named boot_audio.mp3 in /system/media.

More than likely a generic list of features across the board of the devices that Carbon supports. Thats how I read it anyway and its not uncommon for Devs to write it up that way when they support multiple devices.
Supercurio is the person you need to badger in order to bring support to the i9300 alas.

For me it has some serious drawbacks compared to LS:
- no Siyah support, or, phrased differently, Siyah Kernel does not boot. Major issue, actually a no-go.
- Lags. LS is completely smooth, Carbon lags for example in the settings for a second before entering submenus. Did a clean install with full wipe.
So for the moment back to LS, since it seems to be 1:1 the same otherwise.
Greetings!

I think it sounds like a good thing that siyah does not boot. That prevents users to complain about instabilities etc because of siyah kernel's old CM code.

I have created a custom kernel for the Photon Q, but since we all share the same common kernel, it should also work on your xt907.

Not sure what you mean GSM version. But if you're going from one nightly to the next, you shouldn't need to wipe anything - however, "dirty" flashes can also have strange issues, so be wary to rule that out before reporting any issues.

Yeah there's a RadioComm hack thing or something that enables full GSM bands. Someone made it into a flashable zip. The phone has GSM since it's a world phone. Some of the M ROMs make a custom GSM enabled version so people who use it as a GSM phones don't have to flash the fix

Ah. I might do this for releases (IE 'stable' builds), but I don't know if I can do nightlies of it.
Thanks!

I would perhaps try another kernel, as it sounds like that is what is causing the issues.

Try our mirror site carbon.mattman.org. However some of the builds are not fully there and will be small like 8mb, so be sure what you are downloading is the correct size (between 120ish and 150ish)
I was able to download it through goomanager. The official like posted still gives me the error I posted before.

Not really sure what you mean, but it doesnt matter what ROm you are currently running since you need to fully wipe your phone and flash carbon anyways.
What I'm saying is. What if we aren't able to install the latest official release of jelly bean on our bionic. What if I'm stuck on a leak and not the ota release. Will this ROM work on that our must I have the latest version officially released by Motorola to use this ROM?
Sent from my XT875 using xda premium
It's a kexec rom, so it actually comes with its own alternative kernel, and redirects the phone to run on it instead of using the kernel from the stock rom. So I believe you could still be on GB and run this rom.
What I don't know is if you need safestrap and use slot 1, or if you could replace your stock rom using a different bootstrap.
I'm thinking safestrap is the way to go, to be on the safe side.
Well safe strap was always my personal choice of bionic recovery. And I took the plunge and installed it.... It works!!!! Lol. Nice ROM it was a little slow to respond at first to things but its running smoothly now. Not sure if I like it more than avatar ROM or not yet.
Sent from my XT875 using xda premium
It runs well for me, but there's not much overhead ram available, so I keep down the amount of ongoing processes. This also unfortunately causes halo to be rather laggy, so I've disabled it. Now I'm trying to figure out how to make more available ram, and what processes to trim.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
How do you access the ##PROGRAM menu in this? It doesn't bring anything up.
I cannot get a data signal without this; I have my Bionic modified to run on Page Plus and need to access the menu to change a setting (not one of the settings listed in the normal network menu). Thanks.
That dial code and menu may be limited to the stock rom, AOSP probably doesn't have it. What's the setting you need?

As cm11 since its based on it...
hi, I could download and test this
considering it is based on cm11, it shares same bugs as always in almost all aosp based roms (speaker whistle, no panorama, and very probably reboots even if i didn't experience them so far, but I've been using the rom very shortly so far!)
only exception is omni thanks to tilal and his latest kernel, that has all of the above working (except for the whistle)
so i wonder why everyone still uses cm's kernel and not omni's?
maybe omni's kernel is not public yet?!
btw, in this rom camera button is working
also, it has many nice features (but no halo it seems to me? or where can i find it?)

Sent from my LT30p using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If that kernel works with cm11, why not, i'll see what i can do.
Halo feature is not there cuz carbon team working on it and it still not merged. I can cherry pick it but the problem is; if i do that, soon as i will sync my repo, i will loose it.
That means i won't keep u up to date as often as i would, considering fact that im still not a pro , and it represents huge work to me to add it on each new build.
I want to give u guys at least a build or two a week. Be patient that function is coming.

Thank you. Right now the kernel is the most important factor to resolve the annoying blue screens. CM still hasn't worked on it as far as I know. But Omni is was ahead because of tilal and his team.

As I've said multiple times before the blue screens are random - there is no surefire why of reproducing them or of stopping them with the old kernel. The only way to fix it is to use the new 4.3 kernel sources instead as I have done with omni.

one noob question: for the porters to the xperia T of this rom, liquid smooth and others AOSP based roms, would it be just enough to take your new kernel as it is (maybe just recompile it to make it match with their roms) or they too should take the sony sources as you did and work directly on them?
just to understand if the work would be pretty simple (and so we could have soon different aosp based roms all with almost everything working, like now in omni) or if that is not likely to happen
thanks bye!

NOTICE:
This is still Unofficial because we aware some problems we need to fix before we can make it official. Also this build may contain some modifications I test. They will be annouced in my posts then.
KNOW BUGS:
-FC of Superuser and Performance in Settings
-Tabs sometimes do not show up in CarbonFibers
GENERAL MODIFICATIONS:
-Crosscompiled using SaberMod 4.8 (Rom) and SaberMod 4.7 (Kernel) which promises some performance boosts and better batterylifetime.
Awesome, Thanks for the new ROM for our device. I can't wait to give it a try when I get home tonight.

Hi, I installed SuperUser from the play store and was able to access SuperUser options through the app, but if I try through Settings, I still get a crash.
Also Android Settings crashes when I tap on "Performance"
I also noticed that on the page in the Settings that allows you to edit the navigation bar, there are no options (its blank).
Unfortunately I un-installed the ROM after all this
Running nice and smooth on my n8013. Other than performance settings crashing, I've found no issues yet.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
Would be nice if someone is able to get me some logcats. Unfortunally I can't run it all the time on "my" N8010 as it's my fathers and he needs it so I can't flash testbuilds every now. (Which is also why it still contains some bugs and why it's not official yet.)
This bug with CF is known, we work on fixing it. For the rest please get me some logcats so I can look into this issues.

I've been running this for the past few days and it's running very well. our side of a few settings force closes.
nothing shows up in /data/log or in logcat after the fc so I can't send them to you. Any ideas?
Also carbon filters options occasionally are blank. have to shut down settings and go back in for them to appear. next time it happens I'll send a screenshot.
All in all its running quick and snappy. thanks so much for the release.

Do a adb logcat or logcat in therminal please, would be really kind This CF problem is known by our team and appears on all our Tablets (which is why we don't officially support them yet) We work on a fix for it but it seems like our only solution is to completly rewrite the whole app which sadly takes its time.

New Build is up. We upgraded our Source to 4.4.4 published tonight so the Nightly I just uploaded is 4.4.4 too.

hi, i re-installed the latest version and found that the on-screen Home and Recents button were non-functional. The back button worked though.
The new 4.4.4 update is working great so far. If I run into any bugs, I'll let you know. (Using GT-N8013)
Same here. I've been using for 2 days now and no bugs or kinks. Battery life is decent as well. I'm thrilled to have a top line AOSP ROM for my N8013

Try doing a cleanflash if you still have this issue as it works for the others.
