What is Acess Point ? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I wonder what is Acess Point ? I was checking the settings on my phone, and i found this option... But i dont know how i can use that.
See the image bellow:

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"

Translating from portuguese to english, in the purple letters, it says "Active".
Do i need to change this status ? If so, how ?

It's probably either WiFi network selection, or the Internet Sharing mode (I slightly doubt the latter, as that shows a bunch of other UI). It might be a special app to add hidden WiFi networks, perhaps?
Also, what phone is this, and what entries in Settings is this "access point" item between (what above it, what below)?

This looks like the Nokia App "Access Point +" and afaiu it is used for selecting network operator profiles.

Access Point is a feature in WP8 that has evolved from WP7 cellular (but just the data connection).
If some1 is using several SIM cards, it is very annoying to set up the phone for Internet and MMS especially if some1 doesn't know all the parameters. So AP+ helps us by saving all the data neccesery for setting up the device. Once another card is in, one simply has to select the network profile he wishes, and boom, the phone is instantly set up.
Also, one may mannualy add MMS and Internet parameters to the phone, and select that profile to use, instead of the default one.

[Q] Can't change mms sending limit (nothing to select)

Hi,
When I go to mms options, I can't seem to change mms sending limit, it's just blank and has no options to change (it should have 300K for my provider).
I'm using energy rom titanium, can anyone help me with this.
When I try to send a test message, it says "Your message of 75K exceeds the sending limit of 0K. Please remove some content and try again"
TIA
EDIT: a picture says more than a thousand words or something like that

Have you tried a reflash? It looks like you are missing three values that come pre-populated for me. I am using the ROM in my sig/signature; it is for the GSM version for TP/RAPH.
Do you mean a hard reset?
I was hoping to avoid that, since I just had my device configured as I wanted again (except for the mms obviously).
I guess hard reset would work(perhaps, in some cases) but I was actually saying to re-flash(flash again) your device. If you do a lot of flashing from other ROMS, it's possible that you have residual data left over from another ROM. Not saying that is the only way to "fix" your device but it would probably be the fastest(again, perhaps?). Not sure if you like mucking around in the registry but I do suppose that would be still, another option. You could also wait for other answers to come available...
Well, this is my third rom... so not really a lot of flashing.
Thanks for the answer, still hoping for another solution, but it's not really urgent anymore, so I'll just wait till I really need it or have to reflash anyway

[Q] Delete attwifi Hotspot?

Does anyone know how to remove the attwifi hotspot from the list of hotspots? With ICS I can no longer delete it with a long press and forget network. Also I no longer have access to the auto connect option. Where is the address stored and can it be reoved from the file?
Do you still have the ATTWIFI hotspot application installed ?
I have uninstalled mine and the ATTWIFI hotspot doesn't show up.
i have removed all of teh bloatware and it is still there. Now I did find it mentioned in the /system/etc/wifi folder in the file wpa_supplicant. Anyone know if this will fix it if I delete or modify this file?
Go to settings/apps/ and you can disable any app with ICS
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
It is not an app I am trying to disable just the access point ATTWIFI so that my phone will not automatically connecto to it every time I drive by a McDonalds or a Starbucks
did anyone figure this out yet? i'm on on rooted stock 2.3.5 and have the same problem. and there are more of these damn 'attwifi' hotspots popping up. super annoying.
A long press on my phone gives me a menu with "Forget Network" (I bumped the volume switch while capturing screen):

Notification: "Allow the WAP Push application to receive messages..." What to do??

Notification: "Allow the WAP Push application to receive messages..." What to do??
I don't understand what this is all about. I just got this phone last week, and ever since it was up and running, including first boot (if I recall correctly), I've had this cell-tower-like icon in my upper left corner. Always. Swiping down from the top reveals the following notice, and I'm given the chance to allow or deny.

"lightbox_next": "Next",

Googling the content of this notice doesn't yield anything very informative, so I have a few questions:
1.) Is this coming from some app that can be disabled or uninstalled if I choose? Or is it part of the Android Oreo OS itself?
2.) What does it do if I allow it? Might it be useful or just some kind of spam?
If it's relevant, this phone was the international version, with the firmware probably Chinese (but of course I switched the language to English). Thanks for any info/help!

WAP push allows photos, URL links, wallpaper, ringtones, etc etc, to be directly embeded into SMS messages, so long as the sending server has it enabled.
It's an effort to bring SMS up to the speed of instant messaging, although it's probably a bit too late to catch up. Enabling it doesn't mean it'll work either, it has to be enabled with your service provider also.
I have mine disabled, effected nothing.
Theres quite a good explanation on StackOverflow

Question Clearing Wifi Data Usage Statistics Without Factory Reset

Hey guys,
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and I have been trying to
clear the "Wifi Data Usage" statistics in the setting menu.

"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
It seems like there was someone that asked the same thing 8 years ago.
How can I delete/erase the data and wifi usage statistics on my device?
I checked all over the net, but could not find the answer to this. I want to know if there is a way to delete/erase the data usage and wifi usage that is saved to my device. My phone is not rooted, so I am really hoping I can do without rooting...
forum.xda-developers.com
However, this method seems outdated.
I found another method on the internet saying that I had to go into /data/system/netstats
and delete all the files there to clear the statistics.
However, I was not able to find any files to delete in the first place in this directory.
I've tried different file manager applications, including termux, to see if there were any files, but It was empty.
I'm in a situation where I have to frequently clear the statistics, so doing a factory reset every time is not a viable option.
I plead you, Android Wizards of the XDA Forum, please have sympathy for this lost soul and guide me to the truth.
Thank you
Settings menu has option to factory reset Network settings only.
You will have to enter wifi credentials etcetera again.
Hey any update on this?
I'm also looking for the same,
/data/system/netstats folder doesn't have any files to delete.

Question How do I disable WiFi Direct On my Samsung S21 Ultra?

Hi,
I have an S21 Ultra which has much the same software as most Samsung's. I was wondering if I have made the correct changes to disable WiFi Direct? Basically this first screenshot shows what WiFi Direct reports (That my phone is visible to nearby devices, and shows an unknown printer as a device that can see my phone):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This second screenshot shows how I turned off the switch for WiFi Direct in Wi-Fi control:
However when I went back into WiFi Direct settings (as shown in the first picture) - it showed the same thing as in the first picture ie. that the phone is visible to nearby devices; so it looks like nothing's changed. It still shows this:
Does anyone know how to disable this WiFi Direct setting?
Please don't just say "turn off WiFi", because I need my phone to be connected to ordinary WiFi at all times.
Btw, as can be seen in the first picture - I have not actually connected to any devices via WiFi Direct (and don't intend to), I just want to make my phone invisible to other nearby devices by disabling this WiFi Direct feature.
A Google search did not find anything for me regarding this issue.
Perhaps I have to go into the phone's system files somewhere and disable or delete something?? Please advise.
Thanks.
