The inevitable has happened and I dropped my HD2 and now the glass is smashed into pieces.. the touch screen still works and the lcd looks fine underneath. A couple of questions;
Wheres the best place to buy the replacement parts?
Do I need to just replace the glass or the whole screen?
Is it a difficult job to replace it? the iphone was a bugger to do.

I have got the same problem, always carefull and than in a split second it slips out of your hand. With me the "touch" still functioned but the glass was shattered.
I called HTC (in Holland), they have a service center where they can repair it and get full warranty back. It is a very expensive joke (I got a quotation of 267,50 Euro).
I could have my HD repaired by a non-htc company, but they did not give any guarantees. Prices were the same...
I heard that it is possible to only replace the glass, but almost always the digitizer is also (partly) defect. And if not then the chance of braking the digitizer is very big when you try to seperate it from the glass.
I had a lot of calls with my insurance company (no phone insurance) and finally they agreed to pay for the damages.

I took my shattered glass HD2 in to replace the glass today at a local store. I was quoted $100 for the glass replacement. I thought, "hey excellent price. I'd rather pay a bill than ruin my phone by doing it myself." (I have fixed all my prior lcds on my phones just FYI) Needless to say about 5 hours later they tell me that due to the damaged state of the phone the lcd was affected as well from the jarring it took when it was shattered. Apparently there were was one large tear of the anti-glare coat on the top left hand side and two other areas where it was lifted as well.
I tried calling them out by saying the technician did not take the required precautions to avoid tearing the anti-glare coat on the lcd when separating the digitizer and lcd.
Unfortunately, I had the option of continuing as is or ordering an lcd screen from them for another $100. The owner who seemed pretty nice said he would try and see if he could get the price on the replacement lcd lowered. Personally, I believe I should not have to pay for the lcd since it was NOT damaged when I took it in.
I probably don't have any recourse though since they say it's a risk associated with this phone. I should have just bought the combo together and done it myself. That's what I get for trying to save a few dollars.
Would you gentlemen have any suggestions?
theres not really much you can do unless you just want to live with it. i was going to suggest getting a warranty replacement but realized it voids warranty when taken apart. if you want things done right DIY cant really rely on shops to do anything anymore..
That sucks. I'd want to be damn sure they are replacing the screen with a genuine article too.
Unfortunately you can't really prove that the membrane wasn't damaged prior to them touching the phone so it will be hard to get out of this one without forking out extra, however I suppose you could always politely threaten them with legal action and a public flaming on a busy internet forum if they don't want to play nice.
It's worked for me i nthe past when i've had issues with car servicing.

No warranty for physical damage to unit. Insurance would have covered it, if insurance was purchased? I did..
hi everyone so i managed to break my hd2s screen yeah i know it sucks.. right now im in the process of changing the digitizer for a new one i bought off of ebay.. i took the phone apart that was pretty simple but while doing so i removed many glue copper like stickers and also adhesive strips specially the one holding the digitizer and the lcd together.. my question is if anybody knows where i can buy the adhesive strips.. and most important the cooper like tape since it was covering the sides and the back part where the battery goes.. has anyone been successful at fixing their broken hd2 and is the copper-like tape important.. or can i just use some regular hot temperature resistant tape? well thanks in advance for the help
I know this doesn't really help you with your situation in any way but. I broke mine as well, and i just decided to let the insurance company handle it. I know it's expensive 130$ compared to the 50$ you could buy a new screen for. But they send you a brand new sealed in box phone, next day air shipping. I've only seen one video on how to replace the glass, and it was for the euro one, and it required, basically, completely disassembling the entire phone.

I got this back in December as a replacement through Sprint for a bad camera. Not too long after I got it I noticed what I thought was a bubble under my screen protector in the top right. Eventually it got bigger to what it is now. Took my screen protector off to replace it to find out that it's actually under the glass. It appears some dust has gotten in too. I haven't dropped it or done anything to it that I'm aware of. Sprint wants me to take it to a repair center. Nearest one is 143 miles away. Grr! Any thoughts as to what this is? Could I have damaged it somehow to cause this? There aren't any scratches or dents on it anywhere!
Yes, this is because you've dropped your phone. This will keep growing bigger and dust stars collecting inside slowly. I had same issue on my N5 and had to replace screen.

From what I've gathered and after chatting with Sprint in their forum they're likely going to say I did the damage but I have no idea when/how. They want to talk to me over the phone to discuss options so I'm expecting a call sometime this afternoon. Pretty much the only thing I'll do is if they'll send me a replacement and I'll send them mine back. If they determine it's not my fault great. If it is then I'll just pay the $200 insurance deductible. If they won't do that then I'll probably just pay the $200 insurance claim and get a replacement. Unfortunately I don't have an extra phone to just send them this one to inspect and am not driving 300 miles round trip to have someone look at it.

Save the first couple incidents, I found that ordering the parts and doing the labor myself saved a lot of money, It also was kind of fun (yea I am one of those guys). Anyway, Before doing any research what so ever on the tear down and repair I ordered an OEM original piece of glass considering that both the digitializer and LCD were both working well. My confidence rapidly depleted when I started the research and came to the conclusion that this particular repair was beyond my pay grade. I reached out to OnePlus and astonishingly they only charged around $65 USD for the parts, labor and shipping. Which is very reasonable considering that I couldn't find a display assembly for less the a hundred dollars. While my phone was still being repaired the glass I ordered arrived and I was blown away about the quality of glass. So my question is... would I be able to use the replacement glass in place of a tempered glass screen protector? With the glass they send both UV Loca Glue and Mini tools and an UV flashlight to activate the glue that from what I've read dries completely clear.. My fears about this are would it decrease the touch sensitivity of my phone and if no how would I apply the glue. IE. All over the glass or around the corners.... I obviously have no idea but I do know that if this is possible I would be ecstatic! thank you for your time and look forward to hearing the response.. Randy
I would not recommend using the LOCA for this at least. It'll be a true pain in the ass to remove if/when that time comes. If anything I'd try using an OCA film, if you can get your hands on one that fits.

As for the glue, that could actually be the trickiest bit.
Most of the bi adhesive strips would actually be too thick. And permanent glue could be a pain in the arse to remove.
Not sure the LOCA glue would actually work, as you'd need to only glue the two white/black bands on above and below the screen area so the UV wouldn't really get there.
Maybe a few drops of Loctite? That could be enough to keep it in place.
If you fancy giving it a try let us know how it works, finding a proper tempered glass screen protector proved to be quite "challenging"

Use ALTECO or Super Glue on top and bottom plus a bit on both sides. :silly:

Quick update... The day after I made this thread my 3 year old daughter was running to me estaticly because she took a sh!t in the potty... (fyi: Potty Training sucks) Anyways during her excitement she accidentally knocked my op3 off of the table next to the chair I lounge in most of the time. Its not a high table by an means maybe 3ft (1 meter).. Ruffly.. Anyways it landed and on very soft carpet.. (You know the spots on the carpet that are still brand new because they never experience being walked all over.. Like the high traffic areas of the same piece of carpet... Its Like if you're going to drop your phone on the carpet... That's the spot you aim for..{ADHD BAD}).. to be honest I didn't even know it fell until I went to look for it like a hour later... When I picked it up... I was the one sh!tt!ng my pants..

That sucks man and that happened from hitting the carpet ?
don't use any glue on top of cracked glass. remove screen from plastic frame, separate with cutting wire, clean old oca film, apply loca and new glass, and leave under uv lamp for 30-90mins. don't be lame with such waste of time and glass on top of cracked.
That damage seems excessive for falling a few feet onto carpet... Perhaps it's time to invest in a case

Yes... It is the reason for my indecisiveness on how to proceed forward... Because I honestly just received the phone from the repair center from the first broken screen... and for it to fall... on Charmin soft carpet and break like that is beyond my understanding... I absolutely love this phone because in my opinion it is the closet phone that would be comparable to the nexus line... but if this bullsh!t keeps up I might as well just buy a friggin' Pixel.. For perspective I purchased the 3t to replace my LG G5 which is not broken... but it is very limited on the software side.. not my cup of tea... but the thing is a tank. I have dropped that phone at times where I just knew before I picked it up that the screen was shattered... but that was never the case. The thing is still 100 percent OEM... I am starting to get hesitant about throwing anymore money at it.. I guess ill wait for a response from OnePlus support to see which pill I should take.. red or blue?? f*ck it.. ill take both

I broke my phone, purchased glass, sent phone to OnePlus Service, Glass arrived while phone was being repaired, received phone back, was curious if I could use glass as screen protection, broke phone again, $h!t my pants..

believe it or not.... it is much cheaper then buying the parts and doing the work myself compared to sending it to the repair center without worries of more damage.
I just realized that the way I wrote this is confusing af
It is cheaper to send my phone to the repair shop then to purchase the part off the internet... that is if you purchase the display assembly.. the glass runs around $5 usd the assemblies are well over $100 usd. If you know of anywhere I can get the assembly cheaper please let me know
