Wakelock question - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read a bunch of stuff on wakelocks but one thing is still confusing me. Do the wakelocks I see on my phone through GSAM battery monitor always indicate a problem?
Reason I ask is at the moment I have 22minutes of AudioOut_4 wakelock. I've read that specific wakelock is the music player but I have been listening to music, which I would assume causes the phone to stay awake.
So is that 22 minutes an issue that I should be investigating or is it a "valid" wakelock that has been caused simply by me listening to music so I can happily ignore it?

It's perfectly normal. Whenever there is an audio output.

Mediaserver battery drainage ): fix?

Mediaserver is draining a lot of my battery as in 54% im on Galaxy Droid 3.3 JVA and ive search other related threads but they dont seem to have a fix anyone have answers?
I noticed that to, Media Server was taking 35% of my battery so I searched and found this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980575 .
According to that post a corrupt file (like a picture or mp3) can cause the battery drain. So I went through my files and found that I had 3 corrupt pictures. I deleted them and boom, battery usage from Media Server went down to 7%.
Three days later the battery usage was back up to 30%. This time I haven't found a solution .
Btw I'm using a Nexus S.
My phone's Cell Standby is eating like 80% of my battery even in flight mode. even if I don't use the phone at all after full charging, the battery goes from 90% to 20% in just about 10-12 hours. I don't know what's causing the problem.
In the cell standby battery status it shows Time without network: 100%
Is there any solution to this? This problem started after I flashed to Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVP (GT-I9000)
same problem here on ICS 4.2. Media server is keeping my phone awake and so unable to get into deep idle. Really draining the batter hanging the CPU around 400mhz. So far after resetting my galaxy, it's been able to delve into deep idle. But still not sure what caused the media server problem in the first place, and i doubt it's the last time ill see it. In which case i may have to try going through my sd files as in the post above.
i have that problem too..
but only when i listen music with poweramp.
i have even deleted my photos and stuff
is it possible somehow that songs id3 tags causes these problems?
Hmm yeh not sure. I also had a problem with my stock music player not being able to play any songs at all. So I wonder if that did it for me.

Well idont know.maybe there is corrupted file in my music files.but this is first time i have these problems. Been using many roms before and never had problems with mediaserver..
Installed Skype and called once. Battery drainage after installation, turned out the Skype contact sync was causing the issue. Unticked the sync box and battery life back to normal.
How to fix it
The mediaserver thing runs when you open media(photos, music videos) in any program. If you inactivate it you will not be able to access your media. So when your finished with viewing photos or music just go to
apps-->all-->mediastorage-->force stop
DONT CLEAR DATA, I DID IT ONCE AND I COULDN'T ACCESS MY MUSIC FOR A DAY!!!

MSM_HSIC_HOST Wakelock. Suggestions on how to fix?

I have no idea how to get to the bottom of this. Everything I normally try simply doesn't work when it comes to fixing this problem. In Better Battery Stats, it's clear that something is causing the modem to stay awake, because msm_hsic_host is a direct reference to external modem. I will literally have 10-20 minutes max of partial wakelock from sync and then I will have over two hours of msm_hsic_host wakelocks. Avast and Better Battery Stats all do not show any application taking up significant data in the background.
This is making the difference between 4-5 hours of screen on time and 6-7 hours of screen on time. Is there some sort of method to figuring out what is destroying my battery life?
Don't know if this information will help, I have used wakelock detector from play, a free app to show various wake locks .
Also tried Qualcomm battery guru, again free from play , it's a beta app specifically for phone with Snapdragon soc. When first enabled it monitors your phone usage for over 24 hours before enabling various power saving options, that can be customized by the user.

hmm.. interesting to see this as i thought this was a 4.2 issue. See this thread below. The wakelock is related to a driver issue from qualcom who makes the snapdragon s4 pro and 600. They released a patch that has been merged into various custom kernels but the issue remains in the AOSP stock kernel to this day. This is a main reason why i dont mind being on 4.1.2 instead of 4.2.2 until google or a dev for the HTC one fixes it, your battery life will suffer

I ran a wireshark to figure out what was causing it.
One of my issues was Hotmail sync. Setting it to Push apparently means that it will constantly send packets back and forth. Stupid, but whatever.

Hey,
can you explain how you ran a wireshark? I have this wakelock and can't figure out how to stop it and I dont use hotmail sync
Same problem here.... Lot of wake locks and can't find out what causes it.
24% lost in 9 hours sleep mode.
I have the same problem. Because of this Wakelock my HTC One won't go back to DeepSleep.
Is there no app/tool to observe which ap causes this wakelock?
did anyone find a solution? which network are you on (i'm on vodafone nl)
Facebook messenger!
I had this issue as well.. the wakelock was doing its thing like 50% of the time.. removed facebook messenger => the values are back to normal.
Please post if you can see the same..

I don't have FB messenger installed
Here's a really good explanation on what this wakelock is and how it's being produced.

It's apparently much better than the n4 which had nearly the same wake lock as off-charger time. The snapdragon 600 with HTC has much improved the wake lock times.
i woke up today to see this happen for the firs time to my phone.
newest changes to mine: installed ARHD 9 (but it was fine the day or two since, only last night it was unplugged from the wall, instead of the usb port)

WAKELOCKS

I read about wakelocks and checked my phone to see if it is running ok or if any wakelock was running too frequently so I wanted to see if anyone can explain better how to understand, picture of my wakelock detector app if anyone can tell me if the apps I have are working ok and how do I read the apps results.

Hi!
I don't know how much you know about this, that app should tell us what apps or processes are waking the phone from 'sleep'. These sometimes can be battery draining apps so it's good to check sometimes.
Using the picture you have, in my opinion, it's good news. What you don't want to see is apps or processes with long 'wake time' because that would say that app is working while your phone should be sleeping.
The longest wake time is a processes called 1013. I don't know what that one is to be honest. It has a time of 12 minutes 4 seconds. If that's a system process, that's probably not too bad. If it's an app, hopefully it's a 'start-up' process that doesn't need to happen again. If it is a user app and this keeps happening, it may be excessive. The next one is media with 11 minutes 49 seconds. Usually, that one is a media scanner on your phone which looks for new music/pictures/video. It happens every time you put something new on your SD card. 11 minutes is OK for the first time you use your phone, but after that, it should be a bit lower e.g. if you just put one or two new songs it shouldn't need 11 minutes to detect it.
All of the other apps and processes on your list are short in time. This suggests they are not waking the CPU much, which is good. Keep watch of this app to find 'battery draining apps'. :victory:

mediaserver, google play services and battery drain

hey everyone. I noticed recently that my battery life on my m7 was really poor. The battery was draining at 6-8% per hour idling in my pocket, so I decided to see what was up. I noticed my cpu usage never went below 80%. I checked my app usage, but nothing specific was showing under battery usage in settings, so I did some googling. I downloaded a bunch of apps including Gsam and better battery life and saw mediaserver was thrashing the cpu nonstop, as well as logcat, and google play services was constantly waking the device.
I tried all sorts of things from the common reboot to adb commands. Finally, I found something that at least partially worked.
I downloaded an app from the play store called system tuner, which let me kill mediaserver, and instantly my cpu usage went from 80% to 7%. logcat also stopped when I stopped mediaserver. I have noticed no side effects from doing this. I hope this can help someone out there.
Now I just need to figure out 2 things:
1) prevent play services from wakelocking (up to 46 times per hour, wow!)
2) automate killing mediaserver on startup, as I noticed the issue returns everytime I reboot the device.
If someone out there can help me, it would be appreciated, and if I find out on my own, I will share this info here for all the people with the same problem.
EDIT: I found an app called mediaserver killer, which didn't work at first, but after updating my play store opened just fine. I set it to kill mediaserver on screen on, and hid the toast and app icon, which is about as automated as its gonna get.
play services is still wakelocking the device a lot, but much less since the update. I'm just going to call it a day and move on.

Help with Google services/play services battery drain

Was hoping someone could help, or if anyone else has been having this problem.
Been having an intermittent problem with huge, fast battery drain from Google services and play services. Sometimes phone is on high accuracy in location settings and I don't get the problem. Then for no reason I can see, suddenly the battery is dropping by 20% per hour in standby with Google services or play services at the top of the list using way more than anything else. Tried using device only and battery saving setting in location, but get the problem with them as well. Toggling off location entirely seems to stop it. Tried uninstalling play services and reinstalling it, as well as other troubleshooting I've read.
Stock, 4.4.2 xt1058 on AT&T, rooted
Have been searching online for a fix, but nothing as to why it's happening.
Hoping to figure out what causes it to suddenly start, seems to be most of the time now.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Get amplify and put xposed on it. Then limit the wakelocks. That is the easiest and most brutal solution.

Thanks. I had it on my phone at one time, but never used it as I wasn't having this problem. Will download it and try it out -hopefully I can determine exactly which wakelocks I'm having. Hopefully with Gsam battery detector, or Amplify, or another wakelock detector I can identify the culprit.
Amplify should tally all wakelocks well for you. Wakelock detector or BBS would give you a bit of a clearer picture. Make sure you do some reading about what intervals to limit stuff on with Amplify.
