Hi,
The I9003 is the Galaxy SL, right?
ROMs compatible wih the I9000 won't be compatible with the I9003 because they're different devices, even though they're almost identical. There is an SL forum in xda though so you'll be able to find some good 4.x.x roms there.

No I mean I thought the devs wanted people to wait for releases until more stuff was settled...
I slogged my way through the build errors on my device... seems some display thing is preventing it from booting. Or something in the RAMdisk I spose - it's just not booting, and there is no adb

C'mon guys this is xda-developers. If you want to build, have at it! We're here to help.
But endless "what about my device" posts are really quite useless. Either build it yourself, or wait patiently until someone does.
I know, I'm asking too much aren't I.....

Where in the world did the thanks button go...
I9000 and I9100, along with any other Samsung device with unified recovery and kernel in a single image (without the FOTAKernel trick used on Sonys), are going to need some significant rework of the recovery build process. Until building TWRP on userdebug builds is fixed, these devices will only be usable if you create an eng build.
So it'll probably be at least a week or two before any of the "single unified kernel" Samsungs can be worked on as there are some nasty blockers we need to fix.

Damn good question.
I'll toy with my S3 I747 and see if I can get something to boot. What do you mean by "unified recovery and kernel in a single image"? I've never seen anything like that for the S3 (unless the S3 just happens to not have the same problem)

To answer your first question, it has not been abandoned. As you can see a lot of work has been recently committed for CM12 on the SP.
The answer to your second question should be obvious: It will be released when it is ready.

I don't think that S3 Alpha is similar to S3 LTE Int. But if it is you can try kernels from I9305(and no developer will work on device that he doesn't have)
judging by the specs it might be the same phone, same processor, same sensors etc. Only the CPU clocks higher than the one in the i9305 with 1.6Ghz (like Note 2) than the 1.4Ghz in our phone. This article compares the S3 Alpha to the Note 2, stating it has the same specs as the Note 2.
You could ask a dev or try a kernel which was meant for the i9305 or Note 2 on your own responsibility.
