Files won't copy/copy properly over USB - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. I want to make a backup of my internal SD before doing a full wipe.
However, files don't copy properly, or at all. When I try to copy all of my Internal SD card, it freezes on "Calculating time for transferring files" for a while. Even when it starts transferring files, it just stops after a short while, no error messages, nothing - Just barely any files transferred at all and that's it.
I tried copying folder by folder, maybe there's a problem with a specific file, but it occurs just the same most of the time. I tried to copy a folder that's just 57MB, it only created the folder on the HDD and one subfolder, and that's it.
I'm running ROMAUR V7.0. USB transfer mode is MTP (Internal SD is not recognized when it's MSC).

Nope, that's not the issue. My External SD card is just fine, the problem is with the internal SD, which is to say the internal storage. It's not corrupted or anything, otherwise the phone wouldn't work properly.

well pc companion/ flashtool see if it fix the problem make sure you backup

which folder is it failing on?

No specific pattern, I can't tell...
I tried reflashing 4.2.2 Kernel, I'll test it now if it might have fixed the issue.
EDIT: Nope, problem persists. No idea what's going on. I'll see if I can bypass it by clearing some space on the external SD and use Root Explorer to copy all the contents to it. Maybe from the External SD there won't be any problem.

All my cabs randomly deleted themselves

all the cabs and programs I've uploaded from here all say "The file _______ cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." Now I understand what it says, but I havent moved, edited, or deleted any files/folders off my device. I'm going to reinstall all of it, but anyone have any idea why this would happen?

Did you install them to the SD card? Have you looked to see if they're installed? Most programs install to (root)\Program Files where (root) is the device or the SD card.
I suspect you installed them to the SD card and the SD card has a problem.
That, or you uninstalled several programs in a row and ran into the bug I see all the time where it doesn't remove what you expect it to, but in that case you wouldn't have shortcuts in the start menu (but you certainly could in other programs where you set it yourself).
There is a setting in Advanced Config to automaticly delete cabs after beeing installed, have you checked this?
i havent, but I'm glad I still had the cabs on my device as I just reinstalled them. If they werent on there, I would had needed to find them again...
This problem drove me crazy for two weeks. I decided to try to copy the contents of the SD card to my hard drive and then reformat the card.
While copying the SD card, I kept getting an error. I eventually figured out the Program files folder on the card has some corrupted files or folders.
I copied everything except the Program Files folder to my hard drive, reformatted the card, copied everything back to the SD card and reinstalled the cabs.

I have had this too. Twice in fact.
First time it was the My Documents folder of the SD card. Just a few days ago, the Program Files folder was affected. Soluation was to open the SD card directly from the PC thro the SD card slot, recover the files and reformat/ copy.
Lesson learnt: Always keep a copy of important SD card contents on your PC/laptop. I do, now. At 8GB, it doesn't matter much on my laptop.

phone shut off when transfering files

I'm trying to transfer some files into my phone external sdcard from pc. Whenever i do that my phone keep shutting off and i'm unable to finish the transfer. Anyone know what the cause behind this? Phone is rooted and using the latest stock froyo
well just found out i can't fully format my sdcard. There is a file in there thats named {12231-1241235-123123}.jpg sorta like a window registry file. Everytime i tried format the card it'll be empty but when i remount it again in the phone. That file and couple other files reappear again. Does that mean my microSD card is corrupted?
Try to format it on a windows XP computer, if you didn't do this before.
i don't think your microSD is corrupted, otherwise you could never have seen that file.

Strange storage allocation

Hi all,
So last night I decided to check out the PC Companion program on my laptop. I opened File Explorer and noticed that the phone created a folder called "Storage/legacy" and "Storage/0" on my internal sd. Inside, only 3 songs I transferred to my external sd thru settings\storage\transfer files to SD.
As I am familiar with how Android mounts storages it seemed a bit odd. As my previous action was the transfer to sd, I assumed my Xperia made a mistake by copying the songs and creating a new folder tree, on my internal storage. So I deleted these folders, because I don't need triple copies.
Selected folder, hit delete, PC Companion crashes... Turns out after deleting, BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SD EMPTY!! Luckily I managed to restore 95% of my micro sdcard (12 hours later).
Questions: Can someone point out what I might have done wrong here? Or, explain me why the phone mirrors the internal and external storages, but showing only the 3 copied files on the internal storage? Is this a bug?

Bizarre storage after SBF

Hey all, thanks for taking the time to look.
I recently re-flashed the stock software using RSD Lite to my Bionic to pass down to a friend. It processed everything fine but once it was complete I took the phone off the USB and now it will not recognize an SD card or download anything to internal storage either. Has anyone experienced this?
I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and do another flash of the software or not, or if it's something I can do without having to reset the whole phone for them again.
Thanks in advance!

I ran into this problem as well when I got my Bionic a few months ago, and RSDed from GB to JB. The phone didn't recognize either the internal storage or the micro SD card. After several reboots, the phone eventually recognized that internal storage existed, and gave me the option to format it; I also was able to press the issue more quickly by installing ES file explorer and attempting to navigate the file system, which brought up the option to format. The stock Motorola file manager did not produce the desired effect.
For the microSD card, I eventually had to (after backing up its contents) delete the partition, resulting in an unformatted card; I booted the phone and manually mounted it (settings--> storage, mount SD card), which then produced a prompt to format the card. An annoying solution, but it did work with two different microSD cards. Even though they worked fine in Windows and in an MP3 player, the phone would only recognize them after deleting the partition and reformatting in the phone.
I hope this is reproducible in your phone, and solves the problem.

SD card Permissions not working

Hi guys,
Recently I bought an external micro SD card to upgrade my phone's storage. However, I am unable to copy anything from my internal storage to my external storage, when I try I get a notification 'Permissions Required' with a step-by-step guide on how to fix it. After I complete the steps, however, I am sent back to the same 'Permissions Required' page without anything being fixed. The weird thing is that sometimes I can actually copy a file or create a folder, but when I try to copy more than 1 or a few files I get this notification. Some of the files that I could copy to the SD card have been corrupted as well. I have tried everything that is available online (such as enabling the hidden Documents folder) but nothing is working. Does anyone have any experience or idea on how to fix this?
try to format your sd on the same phone
