[Q]Samsung S4 camera software porting - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
some friends said me that also the S4 camera software has nice features.
It's possible, or it will, to port that software (as the Google camera) on our Ones?
Thanks

No it is not. S4 camera is deeply integrated into Touchwiz the same way the Sense camera is deeply integrated into Sense.

How about the google play edition of the samsung s4?

You can download that, but it's just the AOSP camera.
There's a leaked 4.3 camera APK floating around. Think I saw the link on Phandroid.

Most of the good features are already on Sense PLUS he highlights reel and Zoe... there really isn't any reason to port it over. Everyone I know with an S4 said it pales in comparison.....
Unless you enjoy pasting your face on a panorama for some reason

When i saw the comparison video`s between the H1 camera software and the S4 , it looked like the S4 had many more options and settings to play with.
So the H1 camera software is better?
John.

Cousin sold the SGS and bought a NS recently, so I played with it. What to say ? Build quality is great, SGS is a plastic toy compared to it. System is faster, because it doesn't have the crappy moviNAND like SGS (so no microlags) + also AOSP Android helps with that. There's no 720p video recording though and no 3G video call. The SLCD screen aint that bad, AMOLED on SGS still prettier though. Performance regarding apps & games is the same on both (same hardware), battery usage also (same battery size). Anything else ? If you're deciding between those 2, go for NS.

No my friend ! Bacause of shortage of super amoled screens samsung used lcd screen in nexus s for many countries ( i am from india and its lcd here) ! Also the processor is same in both galaxy s and nexus s but nexus s is a bit thivk also internal memory is just 4gb while galaxy s has 16gb! I dont think that nfc has gr8 use in the near future so dont compare in terms of nfc ! I also had the same choice and i chose galaxy s! But for a fact i must tell you that nexus s will be the first phone to be upated to ice cre sandwhich when it comes out ! Bit still go for galaxy s ! Its the best ! Also development of roms and all that stuff is more on galaxy s and in some countries nexus s has thr bootloader locked which can be unlocked but requires some work !

Some people just like to flame others, and ruin the community of XDA.
Honestly there isn't much difference. Nexus S gets stuff first, but the SGS eventually gets the same FW anyway.
Actually I like the SGS more anyway, since the Nexus S doesn't have Micro SD and that's an automatic dealbreaker for me...

I was thinking of getting it for a long time now, upgrading from my white Gnex. However, the HTC one is looking mighty fine as well. Sense 5.0 vs Stock... Not pulling a trigger, just yet.

Except the S4 looks horrible and has the worst colors, looney tunes style. So it's either N4 with stock or HTC One with Sense 5, which feels and looks a lot like stock android. The Google version of the One will feel like a Nexus phone, obviously. I usually hate OEM skins, but Sense 5.0 I could definitely live with.

But who wants to pay at least $300 more dollars for a stock HTC One without all the HTC camera software improvements? Might as well go get the HTC First (facebook phone) and remove facebook to use a stock phone, which is practically being given away for free now.

No. CEO came out and said he was misquoted, and of course they would be happy to work with Google again.
So there.
It looks awful in white because there are too many black parts. That's the issue I have with most phone manufacturers that aren't Nokia. They never go "all-in" with their phone designs. They just half-ass it, including Apple.

[Q] Stock Android with HTC Camera App?

Does anyone know if there is a rom with stock android AND HTC camera app? Or is it even possible?
If you know of such thing, please do share!
Unfortunately the camera, like most apps, are deeply tied into the framework. If I could get Zoe, highlights and that stuff on AOSP I would switch in a heartbeat.
But in a ray of good news Hugo said that they were working with HTC on a solution... so hopefully the stock Android experience will benefit from Samsung and HTC

Thanks for the reply, I will wait patiently.
But do you think they will comply? I mean, Zoe is one of the selling point of HTC One, I can't imagine they'll give that up.

[Discussion] S-Pen and Aqua Mode?

So, I was going through the apk's and found images like used in the help tutorials about the S-Pen and Aqua Mode. What do YOU think it means? I'm going with Samsung got lazy and didn't remove them/plans on using the same APK's on future devices.
Maybe they are working on Note 4 and wanted to see how the apps and system would work together. #GN4

That's definitely what its for, but the s5 doesn't have it enabled, seemingly because of its screen resolution. I think playing with the DPI could get that feature "unlocked".

There's actually an s pen .apk on the system
Actually Samsung is notorious for being lazy...the code is littered with unused icons and things that can be turned on and off based on the device being detected.
S-pen will never work on the s5, you need a wacom digitizer like on the Note for the s-pen to work.

Note 4 AOSP state

Just wondering how well does AOSP work so far for Note 4?
Do all features work without glitches? Are there still problems with Samsung not releasing drivers/documentation causing serious bugs and glitches? How is samsung-specific hardware (like S-Pen or fingerprint reader) functioning on AOSP builds?
I'm considering Note 4, but I want a phone with well working AOSP (for example Note 2 has a lot of issues, especially in Lollipop versions, presumably due to lack of Samsung's documentation).
Basic ly you lose all extra features with aosp
Crappy camera no pen. This is with all samsung phones

I'm aware about loosing all fancy samsung S-Pen apps but how well does S-Pen work technically (does it support right-click via pen button for example? This feature got cut in Lollipop on N2 for some reason so I'm wondering if it works on N4).

Again two phone were mentioned and I have no idea which you are referring to. I'll assume Note 4 .
Everything works fine. Even camera and sPen. UHD recording works. Battery life is ok. You'll get around 12-18 hours of moderate usage. Of course you will loose TW features but you should already have known that. If you don't use action memo, S-health, S-whatever, KNOX or use the downsize app feature (Which nothing supports it anyways) then you will be fine.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. If you have another Samsung accessory like the Samsung Gear 2 then you don't want to use anything but TouchWiz. Samsung has locked out paying customers from using them on anything unless it is running BloatWiz, I mean TouchWiz.
Yeah I meant Note 4, I mistyped, sorry (edited my post above).

Also @airwa1kin7 does what you said apply to Kitkat roms or also to Lollipop ones?

S-pen works fine. FV-5 camera is great and UHD recording works fine. Currently the finger print sensor is not supported, but might be in future versions, most of the code is there already: Google pulled it at the last moment cause Apple bought the company but most was uploaded already, so it should be doalbe to support it.
Battery is the same as TW. ROM is stable, no crashes or weird bugs.
Anyway make sure you buy the snapdragon variant if you want AOSP: Exynos chipset is not yet supported and I'd say you'll see the Note 5 in the shops before the Note 4 Exynos AOSP is stable.

Yeah. s-pen Air view/command just works as in TW. And you can link ejects of the s-pen to an action (like opening your favourite memo). However you can not select and copy/paste a part of the screen although it should be easy to write an app for it, maybe it even exists (it should just overlay the screen with your sketch and then copy/paste that area).

There are several camera apps. The CM12 stock cam, the google cam, the FV-5 cam, open cam, snap cam, just to name a few. I don't like the CM12 stock cam too much neither but the FV-5 camera app is pretty good. It costs $3 though but those are $3 well spent in my opinion You don't need the Cm12 ROM to test them of course, they run on any android platform, so check them out, all available in the app store.
The Samsung cam app is indeed quite nice though, that's one of the few things Samsung actually did right

That I know. I was being silly.
I had CM12 on my note 4 for a couple of weeks, it wasn't stable enough for a daily driver really, some of the issues I had:
- Overheating, the phone gets hot, really hot, not just normal warming from charging or heavy use. On one occasion the phone smelt like burning electronics, i thought it was going to be dead.
- Camera is unstable, on first launch it was okay, subsequent launches gave an error of unable to connect to camera, only a reboot fixed it.
- Battery life is aweful, on echo i charge once a day on CM12 I had to charge 3 times a day.
- Random reboots, the phone would reboot then get stuck on the CM loading screen.
(I have the N910G,things maybe different on the N910F)
Yeah according to above replies N910F is considerably better than C edition (Apparently Exynos documentation still sucks way more than Qualcomm's?).
Thanks for the answer though, now I know N910G is completely off limits for me.
