[Q] Video Quality in "New Experience 9.9.1" [CLOSED][UNRESOLVED][NEW DEVICE] - Samsung Galaxy Mini

[Q] Video Quality in "New Experience 9.9.1" [CLOSED][UNRESOLVED][NEW DEVICE]
As a newbee i'm not allowed to post in the Developers thread of this rom so I'm asking here :
I flashed the New Experience 9.9.1 rom and it's working great, but when I record video with the camera app the quality is very low. Also the sound quality is very bad in the resulting video files.
I noticed the files are .3gp and it used to be mp4. I checked the file with avconv and it showed 176x144
I've set the quality to 'wide'
Any help is appreciated.

Video on Htc Hero

Hi everyone,
After some research, I don't success to watch without lag a 480*320 mp4 video. I have read several times that Htc Hero video must be compressed that way:
MP4
Codec : H.264
Size : 480x320
Aspect : 3 :2
FPS : 25 ou 30
Bitrate : 480 ou 384
Audio : AAC
Frequency : 44100
Channel : Stereo
Bitrate : 96
I try with an X-files episod, that last about 40 minutes. The video is very laggy when the camera is moving: I don't understand.
Then I try a naruto shipuuden episod, that last about 20 minutes. The video displays is correct, no lag, but the picture is not as sharp as the picture display on a HTC HD (HTC HD, I miss U).
Has someone had managed to compress a video which last more than 20 minutes, which can be played on the Htc Hero without any lag/picture short freeze?
NB: sorry for my frenglish
Use videora with settings for default ipod touch 2nd gen. Works perfect.
I try with videora, but the video displays still laggy (every 2-3 secondes a small freeze). I don't understand: I try with an other 40 minutes length video, the results are the same, whereas I don't have any problems with a 20 minutes length video.
Can you tell me the size and the length of the original video that you have compressed?
yup, iPod settings work fine. Converted the Avatar trailer (1080p version) to a .m4v and it plays very well. Amazing picture quality too from the HD QuickTime source.
i use MediaCoder (iphone setting) and have a crystal clear and stutter free video/audio of a 1,3GB concert converted to something like 550mb mp4....i can't imagine the quality better actually :/
More info
I get terrible jumpy video using videorama itouch 2nd gen settings, using the Album video player.
Can those of you with either working or non-working video, please post the type of SD card you're playing it off (class 2, 4, 6) and the manufacturer?
Also, could you post the software versions?
SD card: 8gb class 4, inov8.
Model: T-Mobile G2_TOUCH (unlocked)
Firmware: 1.5
Kernel version: 2.6.27-a5504199 [email protected] #521
Build number: 1.76.110.6 146733 CL#47214 release-keys
Software version: 1.0.0.A6288
A bit of typing, but would be interested to see what the differences are.
SD card: 8gb class 2, Sandisk
Model: HTC HERO (unlocked)
Firmware: 1.5
Suisen and Joemax, can you tell us which android phone and which SD Card class you are using? Is it an issue about the SD Card class?
class 4 8GB Sandisc, unlocked white, came shipped with this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547282
i have the stock 2GB card somewhere, is that one class 2?
I get juddery video too. Generally on fast/lots of motion. There are a couple of threads about this e.g.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544498

Standard Orange with the 2GB card it came with.
Probably not the fastest on the market
I can't understand.
The video tutorial ship with the 2GO microSD card displays on the hero without any lag. It has 1143 kbps. Then, I play a 540 kbps video, and I got lag...
It seems I cant play video at all
I can play the video that came with the device in the SD card but cannot play anything else.
I have to use ES File explorer to find the video first and then play it, the album doesnt show the video. When I play it, I can only hear the sound, no picture. If I scroll to the middle of the video, I can only see a single frame stuck with the sound playing. Very weird.
I encoded the video with Xilisoft as instructed with the ipod touch setting..
Guys, not sure if this helps but I've been watching movies without problem on my Hero. I use 'Magic DVD Ripper' using following format:
Profile "iPhone".
Video type : MP4
Frame rate : Original
Volume : Original
Resolution : 480X272 (Wide Screen)
: 424X320 (Full Screen)
Video Codec : MPEG4
Video Bitrate : 800 Kbps
Audio Codec : AAC
Audio Bitrate : 80 Kbps
I run it from a Samsung class 6 card through 'htc albums' so this might make a difference. I'd recommend making sure there aren't many apps running in the background before starting up too.
There's still room for improvement, searching back/forward through the video is unresponsive but hopefully updates may improve this.
I'm having a much better time using PSP formatted movies. Now its not 100% like how the demo video is, but it is alot better. I've used torrented movies & also converted my own using Imtoo. If anyone wants any more details just ask
Anyone have the demo movie - I seem to have deleted it from my CD card.
cheers
this is the info i got from the demo clip via Gspot codec Information

I've tried 4 Different SDHC cards (different classes):
Averages (using card reader)
Kingmax MicroSD Unknown 2GB:
8.2MB/s Read
Sandisk MicroSD Class 2 2GB:
9.8.1MB/s Read
Transcend MicroSDHC Class 6 8GB :
13.1MB/s Read
Sandisk MicroSD Class 4 8GB:
18.9MB/s Read
Averages (using G3 as card reader)
somehow HD Tune keeps disconnecting my mounted drives, so I used teracopy to copy a 400MB file to my pc's SSD for testing:
Kingmax MicroSD Unknown 2GB:
8.3MB/s Read / 3.8MB/s Write
Sandisk MicroSD Class 2 2GB:
8.8.1MB/s Read / 4.0MB/s Write
Transcend MicroSDHC Class 6 8GB :
10.0MB/s Read / 9.8MB/s Write
Sandisk MicroSD Class 4 8GB:
11.6MB/s Read / 9.0MB/s Write
Given the fact that the card reader inside the G3 is mounted, it still gives decent performance.
I've given a 2000kbps video (1 hr) for it to test run with a lot of motion, it does stutter sometimes but most of the other scenes runs just fine on both 8GB cards. the 2GB cards, however, do have stutters here and there.
Use Super
Actually use anything you want.
Settings are as follows
Format: mp4
Video:
320 x 240
Aspect 3:2
25 fps
528 kbps
Audio:
64 or 96
44100 Sampling freq
chanels 2
This should play very well
I suggest you use the meridian app.
Freeware available on the market.

i agree with above, i use allok video converter and set it to the max quality for iphone (settings all built in) and video plays 100% perfect. watched heroes yesterday on my htc hero (ha ha) and it was totally perfect and great to watch.
use any video converter you can find on the internet, they all have iphone setttings built in and off you go
Does any player support replaygain? I find the volume on some videos a bit low. I use handbrake with the ipod presets. Is there any other converter which has the option for normalising audio?

MKV and H264 level ?

Whoever has one can you check some things.
1. How high of a encoding level for h264 does it support , for comparison Nexus one does Baseline 3.1 anything higher then that will not work , main will stutter/crash and high woun't even start.
2. Can it playback h264 in MKV container ?
3. If yes to MKV is it full support with subs or some partial video only ?

To answer my own question it seems person at samsunggalaxy forum managed to run.
720p mkv Format profile : [email protected] with CABAC on.
Effectively makes Galaxy very awesome Video player
I wonder how well it does with re-encoded 800x4xx sized files. Also native AVI and AC3 support ftw!
Probably gonna watch more movies on my phone than on my projector.
720p mkv plays great.
So does re-encoded video files...i migrated all my HD2 encoded files over without a hitch.
the only sad part is that it doesn't have mini hdmi output like the EVO 4g.
bUt I'm still getting it anyway , since I see that ass an add on for when you go a friend house and want to play a movie you have in the phone on the tv.
Wow, this thing can play .mkv files and supports ac3 audio. I am excited...
yes.. the Galaxy S can play 720P MKVs flawlessly.. but it cannot read the embedded subs. I'm searching for an application that can play MKVs with subs..
I posted this at the Themes and Apps section but no one replied.
try mVideoplayer
UPDATE 2:
mVideoplayer v2.2.0 now support embedded subs from MKVs (only for SGS)
UPDATE 1:
mVideoplayer v1.6.7 above suports .ass (Sub Station Alpha) subtitles. Download mVideoplayer in the Android Market.
thanks to h4m74ro for pointing that out.
updated the instructions... you can find the original post here
Apps to Download to your PC
1) MKVExtractGUI
2) MKVtoolnx
-this is needed by MKVExtractGUI, copy the MKVExtractGUI into the installed directory of MKVToolnix
Apps for your Phone
1) mVideoplayer - download in Android Market
Instructions:
1) Extract the subtitles using MKVExtractGUI, the extracted subs will be in .ass format. This will just take a few seconds to complete.
2) Rename the .ass subtitles exactly as the video file name except the extension (.ass).
3) Copy the MKV file and .ass subtitle to your phone and play using mVideoPlayer..
enjoy... hope this can help someone..
if anyone knows a better solution. please post it here!
thanks

tried that one before, it doesn't even list mkv files. you have to browse and OpenAs in Astro file manager. but still, it doesn't read the embedded subs.

nice one. will try this tomorrong tsong!
Would anyone please be so kind to test this workaround with the following file?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NFU871QV
it's from www.yibis.com and uses Soft-Subs. Unfortunately they now use variable framerate, so I'm not sure if the video will play at all. Thanks!

Thank you very much!
No problems cause of the variable framerate (out of sync or something like that)?
Well, well - that means I have to do some robbery to my banking account...
I envy you, cause you already have your phone and even the 16GB-Version. This one is unavailable here in Germany. Don't know why. Maybe Samsung thinks we are to poor and should save our money for Greece.
THIS phone is a BEAST with media playback!! its like a mini bluray player!!
yeah it does 720p movies with ease, but waste of space if your just gonna watch on your phone, i understand if you are gonna play it on a HD TV output,..
My method is Rip Bluray into MKV original quality with AC3,
reencode with Xvid4PSP to res 800x448 and at x264 High Profile 3.1 with all high quality settings eg: Cabac etc and boom light size file with SUPERB quality!!
Iphone 4 users will only wish to that they can play MKV on the fly without re encode (with 4" and Super Amoled no challenge here)

This is not actually a Show Stopper but I noticed that my Galaxy can't play your video well, there's a lot of skipped frames. I don't think it's the phones fault coz my MKV's (from Horrible Subs & Crunchy Subs) play flawlessly. I suggest you to try other subbing groups.
here's the MediaInfo comparison, hope someone can point out the problem:

there is the usual tv out from the phone from the headset plug.
The phone also supports DLNA out, so if you have a ps3 or xbox you should be able to stream things to you tv through that.

I think that's the problem. As I said, it has a variable framerate. That means the framerate goes up to 30fps under some circumstances (afaik when there are fast moves). If the player stays at 24fps, it will loose some frames each time.

I've been testing DLNA. It works actually pretty good. Just turn on XBMC on your pc, enable DLNA. Get your phone, open DLNA program, select to remotely play your files. Pick your file, pick your XBMC player as station. (must have wifi on off course). And off you go.
720p mkv HD with 5.1DD. Works absolutely perfect. You don't get a preview on your mobilescreen, it's just streaming so 1080 might even work. I have btw an upload of about 1.2 MB/s and download of 2.2 MB/s to my wifi. (3.2Mbit d and 0.5 Mbit up via HSDPA ).
The only thing that doesn't work properly is to view the videos that were made by GS. It only shows the first seconde or so before it's skips to the next file.
(DLNA works as well for music and photos)

10 posts barrier - mod attention

hi all, I am new to xda, I've registrered few minutes ago but I'm noot a supernoob. maybe only a little noob if everyone who wants to ask some questions on modded tab is considered as this.
so now i must reply to 10 posts which i'm not interested at all to be able to reply to the only one i need? (i'm running new cm 7.1.0 - 2.3.7, fully functional) on my galaxy tab and want to make some questions, even surfing over 200 pages of a thread searching for an answer has been very very hard).
thanks for your help

So whats your question?
yes, what is your question?
And don't waste time using the xda search. Use google.

Alright, but ya had a cm7 sgt7 developer basically begging you to ask your question.
too bad, hope you get to ask your question and get it answered eventually.
Good luck!
man, i misunderstand you: i think that you was referring to the question in my first topic and you can't understand it, i'm sorry.
it's not properly a question, i try to resume all (many of it can be included to the main post about the cm7 port on gt7 to prevent a lot of questions contained in the 200+ pages).
i was coming from latest firmware EURO release of android for gt7 2.3.3 on samfirmware (JQM) with CF-ROOT kernel 3.3 and CWM (3.2? - not important).
i tried first to flash via recovery the .zip, no luck, freeze on boot animation (samsung galaxy tab); as said in the topic even if freezed new cwm is however installed.
i've tried a couple of times to flash with the new recovery with no luck (same issue).
so let's go with heimdall (first option, no repartition - the benefit of flash with repartition is not really cleared to me as i read in the post, can you explain it?)
all good, cyano boot, i've done the 2 wipes and a software reset from the android options, followed the wizard and get my system back fully funcional with clean cm7.
as said in the topic with heimdall version i have market already installed, tried all the options to install all the programs i need and the only one working correctly is the oldmarket.apk found here on xda.
other gapps didn't install from recovery (many tries, many wipes )
so now i have all like my old official 2.3.3 but very, very, very, very, very faster and with best dpi. good work and thanks to all the team made it possible.
so, here is what is not going ok:
1) video playback - i can see all my old videos and divx in the icon preview in file manager and in the gallery. when i try to open it, audio goes ok, but video is full green (same green of initial "audience" page of movie trailers).
the same thing happens to any other video i try to play: youtube app, browser,...
this thing happens on 1 reboot on 3, the other 2 times all is ok.
2) video recording - video recording is possible, using videocam illusion app setted to 800x600 capture resolution. video is not the best of the best, but it's working. videos are in the folder "videocamillusion", mov format.
even with lgcamera you can set the options to capture a movie (with better quality than videocam illusion), but the app fail to stop the recording and crash.
(
if can be helpful or someone is interested this is the data of an original video file made with tab 2.3.3 from samsung:

3) GPS: using sygic (11.2.0). with the stock rom the gps fix was almost instantaneous (10-15 seconds). now i can get a good gps signal only after 5-7 minutes, before that there are 5-6-7 satellites locked, but with poor signal.
maybe you can add even a short line to the first topic, sort of:
"download heimdall for your platform, extract it, place in the same folder the extracted heimdall rom, navigate with cmd to the heimdall folder and run the command:..."
this will prevent many questions and will save a lot of time to the first time heimdall's users.
so, thanks for your work, for your help and for your patience, i hope to help the development of this beautiful rom giving feedback.

Hello,
I'm thinking to buy it. I asked if it supports stering wheel control.
I saw your firmware is old. Did you check the firmware update Ezonetronics published 17th February?
Good luck.

i think the ezonetronics is not an MTCB-device. so the FW from the thread you mentioned will not work (i guess).
oh yeah and i think my thread over at connected car is the same unit as this one.

cheers!
if anyone dares to try and is successful, im happy to follow. but i donit want to brick my device (yet).
Hi
this is new product base on 3188 , tech spec you can find here
http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvd-player/pp_312578.html
so i installed the new april 2016-firmware.
BT works again for me, at least A2DP and HFP.
finally going to test the unit in my car soon. my guess is that the viewing angle in my car is going to be a problem with this unit... but we will see.
at first, everything needs to work OK.
So here's some pictures i just made.
comments are welcome. the power draw is what my power supply tells me, might not be accurate. im guessing with radio/music playback and GPS running at the same time the draw might be higher.
i also connected a backup camera, the screen switches instantly to its image once you give +12V on the Back-Car wire so its not an app, also works while the unit's android is still booting. by the way boot-time for me is around 45seconds with the 2016-April-05 firmware.
about the installed software i am not too happy so i did the following:
-KingRoot for root. (supersume doesnt seem to work. any ideas?)
-NovaLauncher to replace the non-(or badly)customizable stock one
-CoPilot Live Premium (purchased this a ong time ago, had to make a titanium-backup from my tablet)
-AdAway (through F-Droid)
-SwiftKey Keyboard. i just like it better plus you can at least set the layout a little
- Dimly to manage brightness easier
-Total Commander for pushing files around
-HERE-Maps dos NOT install. Even the pulled APK (titanium backup) does not work.

the sound appears better, but as i said, i have not installed the unit to my car yet. i do not want to rush it.
basically i think the idea behind this specific device is great. but they realized that it has flaws and this is why its being sold so cheap.
technically (i tore it apart once) it is an android tablet. not a bad one. but of course tablet lack what you need for a car stereo, that is an amp and FM-radio.
plus this specific tablet-hardware used here has no built-in Bluetooth. so this is connected via some kind of (undocumented) serial connection (not USB!) and this is why it is not generally available to android, only to the installed BT-app.
what i am actually thinking is getting my old 16gb Nexus7-2012 to fit my dashboard and fit the "classic" stereo-headunit somewhere else...
and then again im already happy with my N7 in a fixed-installation-holder (brodit.se) connected through AUX to my radio...
and even further, if i forget my N7, i just use my 1+1 ... and its big enough... plus live traffic data through mobile data...
im still going for the fixed installtion anyway just to have something to fiddle around with

so not to beat a dead horse, i know you dont have your headunit in the car yet but on the topic of sound quality. you said you took it apart and it basically was just a bit tablet, so if i had to guess the sound is crap because of the DAC the unit uses, think getting an external DAC could beef up how these chinese made units sound?

yeah, but i do not know ho this would be done. if you like i can provide photos from the inside of the unit.
there is only 1 USB in the front, so a USB-DAC kind of rins the looks.
some russian guys were talking about another DAC on 4PDA, at least thats what i understood from the google translator (russian is terribly translated by google, i guess the grammar is just nowhere close to english, german, latin....) i do not know if anyone was successful there.
the sound quality appears better with the latest FW (April '16), first thing to do ere is boost treble on the EQ. the middle setting i think is just cutting down from normal.
the sounds from the CPU-load does not really irriate once you have music playing. i guess with my 15 year-old car it will not be a problem @200kph
ah and i figured how to get HERE maps to it: used titanium backup on my phone and copied that to the unit. works fine.
cheers!
so, here's and update.
GPS was fine, recieving an OK signal but not as good as my phone (although i had the antenna placed directly at the windscreen... also tried other locations... same result). CoPilot GPS ran fine and the viewing angle was better than i was afraid it woud be.
playback through google play music works, the sound is terrible. even when turning the treble all up and bass -1 its still... somehow not clear. since i enjoy music very much while driving this is a deal-breaker for me...
an absolute no-go is the FM-reception. i got 0 stations on auto-tuning, and 1 very bad with static tuning manually. i do not use external antenna-power, but my current radio (Alpine) finds like 10 stations where i live in excellent quality.
so i guess i'll try to return/refund the device or sell it on ebay. learned my lesson.
maybe ill just build a case around it and use it as a kitchen radio ... hey, might actually be worth a shot
cheers!
