Fix for losing LTE - Sprint HTC One (M7)

After trying searching today countless apps and signal booster apps i finally found one that worked. I tried Viaero Toggle app from the play store and now have a constant 4g signal. I have tested 2 methods on the app. Tried a method setting my preferred network to just LTE and CDMA/LTE. Setting it to just LTE works except you have an X over your signal bars, CDMA/LTE doesnt.
1. Download the Viaero toggle app
2. Select phone information
3. Scroll down where it says preferred network
4. Select LTE or LTE/CDMA
This is for people who KNOW their supposed to have an LTE connection. I used to own a GS3 and had a constant LTE signal. Switching to the ONE my LTE constantly jumps from LTE to 3G which was my biggest gripe. Now I'm in love with my ONE all over again. So if you know you have this issue. This will help trust me.
Let me know your results. I really want to work for everyone because this has been pissing me off for the longest. I had even switched out for a second HTC one and they both had signal issues. If it doesnt help let me know and we can try other methods for different people.
The 2 pics i attached is one with just LTE and the other is LTE/CDMA

You know that X over the signal bars mean you no longer have a voice connection right? Kind of defeats the purpose of a phone

The better way of doing this would be to use the ##DATA# shortcut (provided you have your MSL), but you certainly can do this.

If you just want to use WiFi tether purposes. You can. That's also why I gave the cdma/ltd option as well.

Thanks for the shortcut since I keep forgetting it. I just gave it a try. I was able to switch to CDMA LTE only and my LTE switched back on from 3G almost instantly. Sweet! Looks like I'll be using this feature quite often.

I got nothin'
Neither the App nor the menu has provided 4G / LTE. Funny thing is that on 4.3 ROM's I don't get LTE, but 4.2 and lower it's a non-issue. Any ideas?
Funny thing is I have no APN's. When I try to manually add them they don't save.

Who uses their phone for talking? What is this 2005?

Yup, i set it to WCDMA only but for some weird reason it switches back to WCDMA preferred after a while. I do it using the same method you've described.

If I set my phone to lte cdma it goes to gsm as my days connection. Am I missing something here? Thanks

The forum you're posting in right now is the Sprint HTC One M7 forum. You have the M8, therefore go to the Sprint HTC One M8 forum.

With the 4636 menu what setting should I be choosing to stay in 4G? I'm in Chicago and I have terrible 4G to 3G handoffs all the time.

It is. Incredibly so.
3.5G = HSDPA
HSDPA is on pretty much any phone that's been released in the past few years.

can any one help me to change 3g to H or 3.5G please when i connect the same data line to computer its HSPA connection but on my nexus one its not.
hello i dont want to root my phone
thank you
Unfortunately, without rooting your phone, you can't get HSPA differentiation. That's actually a big draw for many people in order to root and load someone's ROM.
The reason for this is that the framework-res.apk file (the file that houses the actual pictures that make up your status bar, among other things, does not include an H icon. It only has 3G for both states. At least setting it to WCDMA preferred or WCDMA only (what I use), you know that you're most likely on 3.5G.

Ok, I see some potential misunderstanding here.
Working on HSxPA isn't up to your phone - it's up to your cellular carrier. If you have HSxPA network capability - the phone will use it, because it's capable of using it. You can't make it use more or less of it, it's either used or not used.
On the other hand, the icons above may not show "H" for HSxPA, it depends on the ROM. AFAIK some European Vodafone ROMs show "H", but stock Google ROMs don't. If all you're looking for is "H" icon - then your best bet is to root and install custom ROM.
You need to root to get that icon.
Why I don't see hsdpa option while using #*#*4636#*#* only wcdma

Did you try going to Settings -> About Phone -> Status and then looking for Network Type? There is where you should see HSDPA if available. My Nexus One on Tmo US showed it even before I rooted and enabled HSPA differentiation (the icon showing H instead of 3G when on HSPA).

How to turn off LTE and still use mobile data

Doesn't seem to be a way to turn LTE off to conserve battery. I mean, you can turn off Mobile Data all together but that seems to be the only option.
On previous phones I have always tried to go through the day with the slowest data possible to conserve battery, then when I am surfing on need the faster data, I just turn it on.
At least in the Canadian version we have the option to not pick LTE. In settings->Wireless & Networks -> mobile networks -> Network mode
These instructions for the Thunderbolt work. It's a bit much to go through every time you want to switch, though.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-htc-thunderbolt-forums/70282-how-turn-off-lte.html
*Edit*
Nevermind. It appears that you cannot change the default Preferred Network Type on this phone with that method.

Unfortunately the AT&T Phone does not have the Network Mode selection although I would guess once we get these phones rooted and what not we will probably see Rom's for AT&T That have that option included.
This would have been nice to do for those of us without LTE at the moment.
Also in the same boat wanting to turn off LTE and go to HSPA+ or even just Edge while I am in the office not using the device for anything other than text. Phone taken off charger at 8am and is now in the yellow range.
Can someone with a rogers version do the temp root, and then pull their settings apk for us? Would that do it if we install?

I'll play with it on the Vivid but on the Aria, if I changed it and either toggled airplane mode or rebooted it would usually switched to what I changed it too. It would not change immediately after changing it in diagnostic mode.

No 3g on vivid. Only LTE, HSPA+, and Edge.
I'm going to the try logging in as well and will try the switch when i get the phone. Post up if you've had luck with either of them and if you've seen an increase in battery life.

Changing the APN will drop you off LTE. yay finally found a way!You can even then use the *#*#4636#*#* phone pref method to turn it to WCDMA and have it still. I hjope that means it turns off the LTE radio entirely. Will see with battery life.
Thanks... hopefully this helps battery life a bit.
That is my ONLY complaint about this phone so far... well that and the locked bootloader.

[q] lte, hspa+, edge

I'm looking for a method that will allow me to manually select what sort of mobile internet to use (LTE, HSPA+, EDGE).
This is for two reasons mainly:
1)Better battery life on 3G vs LTE
2)With a data cap I'd rather have lower speeds where I can control data usage better
3)All 4.2 ROMS do not show the mobile signal strength indicator on LTE but does show up for HSPA+ etc
I have tried several methods shown in various forums but to no avail. Also even unselecting 'automatic' and manually registering 3G under 'network operators' does not seem to fix this.
I am using T-Mobile in an LTE area.
Thanks

HSPA is still 3G. If you want you can select to use GSM only and you will only get EDGE connectivity.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, and there's a dropdown which by default says WCDMA preferred. Switch that to whatever else you need. Also, remember that this setting does not stick after reboot so you need to reset it to your preference each time after you reboot your phone.

T-Mobile. Let the device sit overnight and it got LTE back. So it seems either the LTE radio in this device is terrible compared to my Note 3, or it just won't attempt to get back onto LTE all that often. Or my Devices LTE radio is messed up.

Telus Canada. XT1103.
Mine would stay on H+ after a call for a long time. I sometimes "force" it to connect to LTE by toggling cellular data and off in settings. Or a reboot.
Have tried the *#*#4636#*#* menu to change to "LTE only", but won't even connect to LTE in this case.
This feels like a software issue. Clearly it's not a network or hardware issue, since it can connect to LTE.

if its not connecting to lte when you set it to lte only, then you either dont have lte around when you set it or its an extremely weak signal.

Unfortunately, it depends a lot on where you are. The office building that I am in is very bad for LTE, signal at my desk is -100dbm, if I go outside it switches up to around -60 to -70dbm. If I choose 3G as the preferred network, sitting in exactly the same location the signal goes to -75dbm 19 au. If I am at my apartment, the LTE signal is much stronger there. This of course effects the battery life also. I am not sure if there is a way to default which LTE band is used since I think Telus only uses band 4 for LTE but I am not familiar with how the phone determines which band to use or if it keeps scanning all of them.

No, where I was testing it, LTE was strong. I also had a Nexus 5 right beside it, and it had no problem acquiring a full signal.
With the Nexus 6, after a reboot or the data toggle, it acquired LTE, again almost full signal.
So I decided to just leave it alone and use it as normal without worrying about LTE or H+. I did not toggle data or reboot, just leave it as is. I just observe. After a few days, it seems better in that it will be connect to LTE a short while after a call, and behaves like how I expected it to like on the Nexus 5.
Of course, immediately after a call, it will stay on H+. If I really wanted LTE right then, I just toggle the data on/off from settings (not by setting to "LTE only" in *#*#4636#*#* menu).
