[MOD][PORT] Sony BRAVIA Engine 3 - LG Optimus 4X HD

Sony BRAVIA Engine 3 Ported To The Galaxy Note II
The Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 3 is a video enhancement program for Sony phones. It uses filters and algorithms to create a clearer and more contrasted picture and an overall smoother experience. This is perfect for the Note II's huge HD screen but can be a little to saturated for people like photographers who want to see how the photo looks exactly with out any enhancements. The change is not huge but is definitely noticeable if two devices are compared. This program is very light weight and works with all models of the Note II so far.
While the latest BRAVIA ENGINE 3 builds on tried and tested BRAVIA ENGINE technology, it does so with the advantage of a new picture processing software.
This new technology has allowed BRAVIA ENGINE to improve - even in respect to its own dazzling performance:
Contrast. Increased depth and clarity, as well as new light control technology to control peak brightness levels, means stunning images even on the brightest of scenes.
Colours. New colour histogram technology detects and optimises overall colour distribution of each frame. This technology delivers breathtaking colour by making millions of improvements to each frame before you even see it.
Detail. Advanced Noise Reduction lies behind BRAVIA’s ability to show you every blade of grass on a football pitch and really put you at the heart of the action.

What about videos ? I mean recording a video ? Does it look better ? colors and contrast ?

I will never understand those who want to ruin the real colors. For me, the screen is supposed to give the best reproduction of the real colors.
Lie will never be better than the truth - even when the photo/video is creepy.

I honestly cant say for sure since I've been using this so long I don't remember what it would look without the Bravia Engine, that said, as far as I know...this does not affect videos in any way...photos only.

Because its a smartphone. A device for fun and entertainment as well as business and communications.
Want real colors and truth, look away from the screen.

would this work on my LG motion? or only on optimus 4X

Is this working on SlimBean 1.8?

I've tested this mod on cm10.2 (although can't tell the difference), so it will most likely working fine on any CM based rom such as slim bean.
Only Chuck Norris can judge me

play a hd video & poor 3gp version of same video before & after applying patch.. it actually increases float frames per sec.. which helps inc. frames, noise canclation & quality. The noise canclation thing might not visible accuratly because of the poor 256k colour display units but you would notice a significant difference by hdmi out... full hd..
yes its surely workin'..
Actually this stuff is little deep than its name..
our cpu soc is actally divided into sections.. including video encoding, decoding channels, pipelines or whatever they call them.. the video playback & similar stuff is actally handled by these channels.. this follow a certain statergy... This statergy is the bravia engine which is diversed & better than the stock android statergy
Before- More Dependency is on cpu than on gpu
After- Reversed :O
So Don't ask again the same silly questions
installed .... may be found little diff ...... is there any way to kno if brabia is working
Thought by an mi 410 user frm punjab
will try it out ...

Over the DHD section, Lordclockan mention that this works as a tweak on the native SE display that supports it. On other device(s) he said it gives placebo effect only.

Lordclackan is respected personality..
but i don't think there is any placebo effect psychology in this case coz' i have read gsmarena blog.. there nothing special in those displays..
every company says their there stuff is exclusive to them always, make their ®™ & bla bla.... but this not true in each case & these are just marketing stunts... or you can say that bravia engine is a placebo effect psychology, they are not even there on actual se xperia 2011 devices they are just pushing their customers into a placebo psychology...
This is just a statergy..and yes i have stated that this might not visible on our devices coz' of poor contrast & 256k colour display...
but shows diff. by HDMI.. & they don't have HDMI LOL!!!
Frankly, I want to believe that this really works on X6
I have put a DHD and a X6 side by side. Be it that DHD's LCD is bigger, but then it's easy to tell that X6 really gives better images on it's LCD. Pixels are tighter and smoother.
So, aside for the advantage of HDMI, I think X6 will do show improvements on it's display when using this mod.
Have faith..

upgrading to Xperia Z

hi all
i was wondering if it worth upgrade to xperia z from Lg optimums 4x, or should i keep it
lg is worse in dev support and camera in the dark can not capture a thing
Do it.
You answered your own question mate.
It's a great phone!

The sony xperia z seems to have problems, through reading and personal experience. I still think its a great phone.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
that's what worried me
the review seem to be different than personal experience as the case about my current 4x the reviews criticized the phone but it's not that bad
what about the heat issue (i'm normal user -internet, facebook, camera, music- ) and glass crack
If you don't play games this phone is amazing.

It heats up just like the S3 or any other dual/quad core cpu smartphone. You won't find a smartphone with a cpu like that which won't heat up - unfortunatelly.

unfortunatelly thats true, so today i went to the shop and try the xperia z and it was great the screen look perfect(i compare it to note 2) the touch and feel of the phone is super great and the phone it self look appealing, there is one thing the sound is bit lower than i expected.
i will buy it the end of the month, hope so! :fingers-crossed:
thank you all

As stated here, no cooling fans etc, high cpu speed packed into small bundle, very limited to disipate the heat generated. No phone is not going to head up significantly when under load, the more Cores and GHz the more heat
Hey guys I also upgraded to Xperia z from the note 2 (went for the looks, ignoring the inside cooks)...
and I also made the dealer apply a screenguard on that phone straightaway...
But the picture quality of the phone seems to be a little bad than note 2....
I compared both the phones having same pic on both the phones but note 2 seems to have sharper images....
Do I have a problem with my phone or is it like this originally.?

I got you perfectly.
Turn off Bravia engine and see what you think, I feel it affected the sharpness, I came from an S3 and think the display on the XZ is incredibly sharp.
As for the "dull" colours, it's probably because the SuperAMOLED screens in the GN2 and the S3 were very saturated compared to the LCD in the XZ, personally though, I always used my S3 in "Standard" display mode which removed much of the saturation and I'm a lot happier with the more realistic colours of the XZ.
The camera on the other hand is a different story, and I find it difficult to get photos that come close to what I could take on my S3, too much post processing I presume on the XZ, and they don't do a very good job of it.

Take into consideration the resolution of the image you are testing. This is a full hd screen so it needs full hd images to compare or it will just stretch them causing blurred.

I see, I'm afraid I can't really contribute any further to the discussion in that case. personally I think on my device it looks much sharper than my S3 did.
Does this issue show up in a screenshot? Perhaps there is some strange graphical issue with your device.

[Q] Bravia Engine 2

HI everyone

I believe it's just photos (maybe even only with Sony's own picture viewer) and videos.
A quick google found this http://developer.sonymobile.com/2013/01/14/the-new-mobile-bravia-engine-2-takes-your-viewing-experience-to-the-next-level-video/
It's a bit like putting salt on your food
I prefer to keep it switched off as it oversaturates colours, over sharpens, and exaggerates contrast. But I can understand those who prefer to use it, especially as the SP screen is nothing special in terms of saturation and contrast.
PS: Just read Sony developer blog again and it clearly says Bravia 2 is only for videos and photos using the Sony Album app.
i was asking because after unlocking the bootloader it wont be there so it is crap i know from beginning sony fooled us in these segments but after .284 update contrast fells good and blacks are more deep than before...thnks

[X-Reality] What is it?

IntroductionSo I was wondering what X-Reality is and decided to search it up.
I found a video about X-Reality, explaining what it is and what it does.
I decided to test it out myself. Using a port for the Xperia V.
I want you all to watch this video and reply about what you think about this.
Is it worth the port? Is it good?
VideoClick here to watch
My Personal TestingSo after a few testing with Bravia Engine 2 and X-Reality,
I found out that there's not much difference in the quality.
I can't provide proof. That's why I want to discuss this with you all.
Actually, you cannot compare it with "unofficial" device
The best compare, it's with real device which support X-Reality engine
Also GPU and display density can make soo much different
=)

True but based on what she said in the video, it doesn't have any difference.
Yes you can trust her research. You can learn more about it in her Triluminos video. There she explains things more deeply.

Yeah and its almost nothing compared to Amoled
True but from time to time, Bravia Engine 2 actually makes the screen looks much sharper than Super Amoled.
Sent from my LT25i using Tapatalk 2
Have you taken the time to look at one of the recent Amoled devices from Samsung like the Note 2 or Gs3 there actually a bit on the dull side at times there screens don't have as much pop as the older Amoled screens of the past though there is defiantly some improvements as so as the Gs4 as well with it being even sharper with a better colour range or something the Trluminus for mobile is at least a decent display I'm sure it won't disappoint to bad I'm hoping and waiting for Sony to launch a device again compact like the ZL but like the Z1 in the spec department before I buy another Sony smartphone .

Display differences between stock and cm

Hello everyone,
Today i got my z1, after being a gs3 user for almost two years.
All day today i've been educating myself around unlocking, flashing tools etc, as z1 and s3 are a little bit different.
I would like to ask a question, after flashing a cm based rom i noticed that the colors on the screen are a little bit washed-out comaring when on stock rom.
Is it me or is this really happening? And if so.. is there anyway to edit the contrast or sharpness or maybe implement the bravia engine to cm11 rom?
Thanks in advance
thats because x reality is gone acter u install cm/AOSP....xreality tweaks the display slightly to increase colour reproduction

X-reality (Bravia Engine for you) only works in select Sony apps with pictures and videos only anyway, it doesn't apply its effects to the screen. Main difference is probably the video drivers used in CM as opposed to the proprietary Sony ones on Sony ROMs. There's no way around it probably unless you know about kernel coding. (maybe)

it works on picture and videos watched in youtube and google chrome. I saw it once on my phone, so they are not work only on sony apps.
In kitkat update.... Xreality also works in a 3rd party app like mx player......but yes.. The grphics driver seem to be a better explanation
