[Q] Notifications & Facebook Messenger - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just two simple questions:
Why there is not Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone? Android has it, iphone has it and even Black Berry. Why Windows doesn't?
Why all Facebook apps have serious problems catching and showing notifications? The only one that atm works well is JTD for Facebook, and so I suppose is it possible to make it working.
Am I missing something?

First of all, Facebook messaging is built into the OS. You don't need a separate app at all.
Second, there is a Facebook IM/Chat app ("fim chat"), at least on WP7. I admit that I don't see it in the WP8 store yet.
Third, there are a number of other apps (IM+ being probably the most popular) that implement Facebook messaging.

Hi!
thank you for your answer!
The built in Facebook messaging system works really bad: (correct me if I' m not right) it works only if you decide to stay online (so offline msg doesnt work properly) and it doesn't work in receving messages from people that are not in your friend list
The same happens for IM+, you can't chat while you are offline and neither you can chat with people not in your friend list.
For these things I asked "why?"
I' m really interested in knowing if there is something that I missing (like maybe something that afflict Facebook chat that makes it difficult in being developed in third part apps)
I really like wp 8, it has great potential and stuff but it's hard for me to figure out why it misses some must-working apps

FB Chat in IM+ is, I believe, just implemented using Jabber/XMPP (I think that's the underlying transport of FB IMs, at least). Support for receiving offline messages (which I believe Fim has) probably requires deeper integration with the service. Mind you, I see no reason to sign out of FB on the phone, and you can get messages even when the app isn't running (IM+ push notifications work fine for me, though the app in general is a bit slow and clunky).

My biggest issue with any of the facebook apps, is that there is always an issue where notifications never come in promptly when I have my status set to appear offline. On the os end, the closest I can get while being able to see friends online is having it set to Away.

I'm looking for a Windows Phone 8 Facebook app that will allow me to view and send photos in the chat window - Does such an app even exist
And I don't want one that just sends a link to a photo for someone to click on

WhatsApp for WP release status

Hi.
It seems WhatsApp is looking for C# programmers
Might hint on an upcoming release...
I really want it to come already, so all you C# programmers, go apply and write me WhatsApp (bug free please)
If they're looking for developers now this isn't going to get released for months.
Why not use kik?
Wish I could but all of my friends are using Whatsapp (Android/iOS)...
Without whatsapp I can't move to WP..
The same for most of my friends
Iosu

there is a kik messenger app for android and ios.. And thb kik messenger is alot faster then Whatsapp
Just to clarify:
worldwide WhatsApp Users: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000....
worldwide kik (or however this unknown bloody software is called) Users: 10
Or in different words: nobody has kik! And all want WhatsApp (regardless how crap this software is) for the only reason: because all their friends (on Andorid or iPhone) ALREADY have it!
Thats the problem, so ROLL ON Whats App!

Yeah dude, you're right. WhatsApp is crap. Kik is way better since ever, and I'll not trade something better to worse just because the whole world use it.
I would have an Android, if so (;
if kik can just automatically add friends based on their phone numbers then it would be great.you wouldnt have to add individually each contact...still i agree its better then whatsapp
Oh god, why people are so lazy??
You just need to add ONCE. Your hands will not explode in pain if you use it to something beyond fap.

Not allowed in wp7 until mango.
I'm looking forward to this if it's ever see's the light of day - if need be then i can always roll back to Kik messenger
Having a BBM-style IM client will certainly help me transistion from BlackBerry a damn sight easier!!
whatsapp and kik and all the others are useless just use the built in FACEBOOK chat, or MSN messnger, 95% of people have a facebook or an msn app on their phone.
My girlfriend has an iphone4 and i've got an omnia 7. We use Kik messenger to send messages to each other because the iphone doesn't have push notifications for facebook chat or MSN messenger (i know it's a iphone problem...but it does prevent me from using it).
Although Kik works, the biggest downsides for me: it is not mango (multitasking)...yet, you have to set the kik tile to your home screen (it would make more sense to use the native messenger tile), no voice to text and text to voice like the native messenger in mango (it is awesome!).
Maybe i'm too fussy about these things
they should have integrated facebook messages into mango, as well and not just facebook chat.
in combination with the new facebook messenger app for ios and android it could be an alternative to whatsapp.
@gentrice Exactly! Now it's kinda weird you can chat (facebook, Win Live) via the messenger tile in wp7...while you can't send facebook messages. It would be totally awesome if WhatsApp, Kik etc. would also be able to integrate directly in the OS. I can imagine that companys like WhatsApp would like to receive some earnings from this. I would have no problem in paying a yearly fee to be able to have WhatsApp integrated in the OS (it would be the same as paying for the app on a year tot year basis).
I guess I just keep dreaming a little further . Hopefully facebook messages will get integrated in WP7. Everyone I know uses facebook. With a cross platform messaging app...it could be huge.

Yea maybe if your friends are all on WP7 its ok because its integrated and running all the time (unless you go and turn it off). But I dont believe its integrated into iPhone, Android or Blackberry..

REQUEST: Facebook Messenger

Hey,
Facebook app on WP sucks. Can someone make a proper messenger app with geolocation, support for read receipts etc? Something like iPhone and Android have. I'm sikc and tiered of this current app that wastes space and looks uggly. Push notifactions that work would be also a bonus.
Just an idea. If wished, I would not mind a proper facebook app in genreal aswell but I can handle the lack of that, if messenger app would exist.

Yeah, but "who cares" for chat, we just want an messenger app that iOS and Android have. I really, really miss that feature on my 8X, not only that push notifications does not work, but also, we are not able to send or receive any file/picture via it !

Push Notification does work.... I am not missing any fb chat message however it's lagging couple of seconds.
Microsoft is not a copycat. They are trying to be original and bring something new to the end users.
Everything has to be intergrated in the people hub. Whatsapp is an exception since it uses your phone number to communicate with the other party; so is Tango.
Keep in mind that WP8 was meant to be compatible with Windows 8 where all your contacts are now integrated into your live messenger.
well the facebook app does not always work. most of the time its fine.. but sometimes its just a pain. messages send online are not displayed.
sometimes messages are not displayed at all. some contact i can write messages to and they dont receive all of them..i evne have contact that dont receive any of my messages.
its supposed to support on and offline fb messages.. not sure if that works correctly

If your contact is offline they wont get messages. In all other scenarios, they do receive your messages.
A dedicated Facebook Messenger app is needed because
1. the built in Facebook Chat lacks several important features (most importantly group messages) and is unreliable. Also doesn't show previous messages that weren't sent using the built in chat.
2. the normal Facebook app has several issues when it comes to messages, including annoying error popups and no notificaitions.
There is an app called FIM, I haven't tried it yet.

[Android 4+][Xposed] Messaging Bridge - Message on whatsapp and kik from sms clients!

The title says it all. You can find it here:
Available on the play store
Doesn't work on HTC one m7 (Sense 6, 5.0.2)
Nice concept will try later
Hi.
Just found this app and I think it will solve a big problem of mine. Not totally sure though, so I thought I'd better ask first. I use Kik a lot to communicate with my family (since it's a lot better and cheaper than sms). I drive a Ford with Ford Sync, which has functionality to display or read up sms from the phone (from what I understand it uses a bluetooth profile named MAP). Question is if this will work with this app? Will I be able to hear my Kik messages in the car speakers?
Another question: One of the good features of Kik is the ability to see if the receiver (most often my wife) has read the message, which of course isn't possible with sms. If I install messaging bridge, will I still be able to do this? I understand that I won't be able to do it in the sms app, but I'll still be able to see the sent messages in the Kik app, right?
/Daniel

What messaging app are you using?

And why? ?
I'm using Facebook messenger app. Crazy, I know.
The Why: Because I already have it for the occasional FB message, so I thought I would give it a try. It's not bad, and I like the chat heads. I don't share anything too personal over it, so I'm not concerned. One day I might stop being lazy and try some others out.
Google Messages works a treat for my usage...
Textra ftw. No other texting app better, none as customizable. I also use WhatsApp for friends out of the USA and for sending video and photos to my most talked to friends

I use Google Messages right now but I do miss the customization that Textra offered and how fast and smooth it is but the one major thing that prevents me from using it every time is the lack of archiving message threads feature that text apps like pulse and messages have. It keeps me away cause sometimes I want to delete a message thread but often times I just want to archive it cause there may be images, information, or just the fact that I want to see my text history with that person. Which Textra would add this feature instead of just the deleting the whole thread.
Textra here too
Fast and simple and heavily customisable
Whats app, facebook messenger.

Yes I agree I gave it 3 stars and mentioned this in my review to the developer. I told them it would be a 5 star if there was a way to backup and restore or archive them as to not lose them from phone to phone or in cases you need to data reset your phone. They responded to me and said they would look into it and nothing... this was about 2 years ago.
Textra is love, Textra is life, no other compromise.
Google messages. I have used textra alot before. But just switched to Google and it's been smooth and exactly what I need.
Google Messages for me.
Smooth, useful features, and web messaging from other devices.
As a non US résident, I don't have access to those fancy text apps nevermind to a supercharged network !
Hence, where I am from, texting is a thing of the past!
I use Telegram which is, in my opinion, light years ahead it's competition in terms of features and one of the last really secure platform there is! (Among with signal)
+ Channels
Google messages, Whatsapps and Telegram.
Used to use textra, then chompsms, now pulse.
I got tired of backing up my messages when changing phones (I switch between 3 at least once a week.)
Pulse auto syncs messages and restores automatically upon a new login.

You guys use text messaging? Damn...
It's 2019, use Signal.
Using Google messages, simple, works for me and has a web client for the rare time I don't have my phone next to me
Textra
Great app no issues
Using the stock messaging app for the time being but considering moving to google messaging app because of the web client, which was very convenient back when I had my Nokia 6.1
Textra , it's awesome!

Question What do you recommend as a new texting app?

Hello all,
I have been a devoted user of Handcent for more years than I can recall back - decades. However, they have not responded to my support requests, their Play Store page is gone, and their website links to the Play Store page that is gone.
Recently I was driven to seek advice on what the community is using after Google Play Protect flagged Handcent (Next SMS) as "fake," which I know not to be true, but support is a huge factor for me in what I use.
So, let's hear it, what are all of you using and what do you recommend / not recommend?
Thanks for consideration!
I'd recommend Signal. It combines SMS and WhatsApp functionality into one app. That is just my personal choice, but there are a lot of other apps out there
I remember ditching Handcent for Textra almost a decade ago. If you like the features, check out SMS Messenger (orange icon) and QKSMS. Otherwise, +1 for Signal.
google messages, especially if you also want to have a window on your computer open to send messages
I'm trying to move all my conversations to google messages just because of the RCS feature. As the other member mentioned, you can also continue conversations on the computer
Another vote for Signal here, love it. They also have a desktop app but of course the desktop app will not include SMS/non-Signal inbound/outbound text. If you would like to have full control of text threads on the computer, you can look into the Windows 10 "phone link" feature.
Eternally grateful we're on a platform where we can actually remove the native text app and use whatever we want.
