Nexus 7 32gb 169 at Staples or Nook HD+? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I got the Nexus 7 32gb yesterday for 169, and have the Nook HD+ and now don't know which one is better to keep. Any ideas? Today is the last day to return my Nook HD+ to BestBuy.

It really depends on what you want to do and how you plan to use it. I had the Sero pro from Walmart which is almost identical to the Nexus and returned it when the HD+ went on sale. I know the Sero is faster but I really wanted something a little larger and the Nook was light enough that I don't mind holding it for an hour on the train. For me the Nook made more sense and I am happier with it than I was with a 7 inch tablet.

you've got them both so you really don't need any input from us. just flip a coin if you can't decide.

I love hd+'s screen resolution and 7" is a little bit too small for me. My choice would be hd+. Also, I would pick up N7 16g for $140 even if I want to get a N7.

I kept both. Nexus 7 is for gaming and doing work including e-mails while traveling. My Nexus 7 with the minisuit keyboard combined only weigh slightly more than the HD+... Nook HD+ is for web browsing, books, movies, light gaming(when I want better graphics especially with HD quality games and willing to give up a bit on frame rates.) But I really don't play games much with HD+. I read a lot of books and technical manuals using the HD+. It is much more nicer for reading than Nexus 7 also movie experience is much better simply because of the larger, higher resolution display. If I have to keep only one, it'd be a tough choice. It would come down to what is more important. I found though I use the Nook HD+ more often unless I'm traveling.

Touchwiz... EXYNOS... eww.
Definitely not, plus the displays are a bit lackluster.
Again, I'm guessing that you are a fan of those.

exnyos is a better processor than the tegra 3 - though the gt3 8 isnt since it's only dual core. but the screen on the gn8 is pretty good, just about the same ppi as the nexus 7, but surely not as good as th nook. t3 does outperform on games however.
i don't like tw much either, but some have grown to like it.
and yeah, right now i'm a fan of the gn8. who knows who'll be my new 8 incher next. all my tablets and phones other than my ipad and nook are sammys. i'm not really a fan boy, it's just samsung has made exactly what i wanted when i want it. i've got no problems switching when some else has a nice product. i gave up my gt 8.9 for the nook. i'm not sure if i'll ever gibe asus another go. after 7 bad tablets from 2 models i quit. they realky ned to work on some quality control.

How many Kindle Fire and Nook owners bought the Nexus 7?

Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
The Kindle Fire's lack of Bluetooth, GPS, hepatic feedback, compass, and camera have always been a disappointment, but it was easy to rationalize these missing features because of the price (except for the lack of Bluetooth, because that could have been implemented at no extra cost) When I saw the specifications for the Nexus 7 Tablet, I bought one immediately because it was everything that the Kindle isn't.

Selling KF, it was good, but now it will be just a paperweight with the n7.
I already sold my Kindle Fire, I will order a Nexus 7.
Most kindle fire owners won't know what the nexus 7" is & are probably loyal to amazon ecosystem. Now the geeks on the other hand are another story.

You could try listing it on the Singapore Craigslist.
Had a Nook Tablet (and previously a Color) but sold it when development of the 3.x kernel kinda ran into roadblocks and stalled.
In for 1 Nexus 7 8 gb, though. 7" makes a great portable video viewer & the price is right for an otg toy....
I have an iPad 64GB wifi+4G, I bought a Nook Tablet to see how I liked the 7" form factor, I ended up real liking the 7" size very much over my iPad but wanted a more standard Google experience. I was able to tweak the NT to where I was almost happy but ended up returning it when I heard about the ASUS ME370T that was going to come out with ICS 4.0. So I've been waiting for this tablet since January.
Why would I want this when I already have an iPad? My iPad cost me $900 including the "Smart Cover", and I have left it at restuarants a few times already, luckily returning to find it turned in @ the register. I am tired of worrying about something happening to my expensive primary computer. My iPad has become the only device I find myself using 95 percent of the time, & the other 5 percent I'm using it to control a PC using the LogMeIn App. I also found out with the NT that I really like a 7" device, as it is way more portable and much easier to hold. I've noticed that when I use my iPad I always prop it up on a surface & use it and rarely hold it in my hands. With the NT I found myself holding it more and using it in more positions than I'd ever used my iPad in. I am looking forward to getting my N7, just wish it still had microSD & HDMI like ASUS said back in January.
So when my N7 arrives it will be my portable computing device & my iPad will become my new desktop/home computer. Will work out nicely now that I can use Chrome on both have my tabs sync'd between the two.
Just a note, if they'd (Google & ASUS) have left the HDMI & microSD port in I could have hooked up my N7 to my monitor, keyboard & mouse, SDHC, and truly used it as my desktop as well & sold my iPad and completely converted over to the Google/Android ecosphere. But as Google has seen fit to remove these coveted ports, I will be retaining my iPad @ least until I can get my hands on a Microsoft Surface which I may use as my main computing device.

They'll be hard pressed to match the N7 on specs and price I think, plus this is a Nexus device

Is something wrong with me for wanting a Nexus 7?

Perhaps someone can help me but I seem to have this quest for any shiny new tablet, I have had several Tablet from the Archos 70, HTC FLyer through to Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 to 10.1" and have kept them from couple of weeks to few months before the novelty wears out, but I just could not resist the nexus when it was announced that I had to pre-order 2!! just in-case.
I keep asking myself if I really need one and I am trying to find a use/excuse for one... nonetheless I ll still buy one if only to root and install ad-blocker so that I can play Angry Bird Ad Free!!!.
Buy the Nexus 7 to run the Eliza Android app. (google it)
It will help analyze why you have this abnormal fixation with shiny new gadgets.
Good luck on finding a cure!
Well to me if you did not like or did not have a use for the Galaxy Tab 7 the Nexus 7 will be the same aside from the better processor.
But only time will tell really as we cant really tell you what YOU will like
what makes you turn away from the tablets your buy? Is it that your phone is so much easier to use or is it that bezel :silly:
If you have the disposable income and it's not hurting anything then why worry about it? I've had the iPad 1, iPad 2, Nook Color, Nook Tablet, Nook Touch, Galaxy Tab 7+, and the Galaxy Tab 8.9. I end up either reselling them or giving them away when I'm done with them, and I pre-ordered the Nexus 7 without any hesitation.

If you do not mind relying on cloud storage, or mainly stream media, read books and browse the Web, the N7 is solid. I will stick with the View 32gb with a 64gb card, since still a nice tab.
I have the TF300 too, so less compelled. Must admit I would have bought one though if had micro sd.

$200 for a wifi tab with only 8gb.I can justify the no camera, the no LTE or even
HSPA+, the 7" form factor, and the no super ips I really want one. But the no SD is a deal breaker and seriously, **** Tegra. I want a quad core krait or even an exynos. And Google's developer device gunning for the kindle fire is a quiet acknowledgment that iPad owns the 10" segment.
I have a 15 " MacBook pro (for school) my old laptop running Windows 8 just for fun, then I have a Asus transformer tf101 with dock for portable productivity, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" , and Samsung Galaxy s II . I will probably sell the 7"Samsung since its only dual core and has the 10" tablet UI which really is not great on a smaller tablet. So I am really excited about the "hybrid UI" as Google called on the nexus 7.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using XDA Premium HD app
What the OS needs is a TON of installed user base, so that developers get rewarded for the time, in a way close to the iOS. Selling a lot of quad core systems for $199 will hopefully show numbers of installed base that wake some people up. If it sells as well as it should, your going to want a Tegra3 device at that resolution because that is what everything will target.
For example, I saw a post that one of the game dev's who have ignored TFP compatibility is now saying they will be developing for the N7.
I expect my TFP 201 to benefit somewhat from the sales numbers this should do, given the hardware is basically the same. Also given ASUS made the thing, I would imagine getting JB faster than most on the prime will be a near sure thing.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or Asus Nexus 7

Hey guys. I was interested in getting your opinions on a plan of mine. I've had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a year now and I use it mostly for content consumption, browsing during flights, etc. I haven't really used it to watch movies, mostly just read articles on Pulse. Now on Ebay, I could definitely get at least 200 dollars for my tablet, most likely 250-300. My question is, do you think it's a good idea to sell my tab and buy the nexus 7? I currently have a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon that's rooted because Verizon takes too long to update, but If I got a Nexus 7, I'm not sure if I would even root it, because it is an official AOSP device. Also, do you think the transition to a smaller screen size will really affect me? Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks
P.S: I need to either make a net gain or break even, so please don't suggest tablets that are more than 350 bucks.
Yes, buy a nexus 7.

I had a Transformer Prime with a 10.1 inch screen before I returned it for a Nexus 7. I actually prefer the 7 inch screen as opposed to the 10.1 inch one. I don't know how good your user experience has been with the Galaxy Tab, but I really did not like my Transformer that much. I love my Nexus 7 and think it is definitely the best tablet choice right now.

I've a Galaxy Tab 8.9, Sony Tablet S and the awesome piece of gadgetry that is the Nexus 7. I haven't touched my other Tablets since I got the 7. Infact, the Sony Tablet S is now, along with it's cradle, nothing but an alarm clock and storage device (thanks to 64gb storage) for me. The nexus outperforms my sisters iPad 2 too. I do however think you should root it anyway. I rooted mine as soon as I unboxed it, the Nexus 7 Toolkit is extremely simple. Some of the kernels people have created are outstanding, definitely worth the root.

Used Nook for 7 year old??

Hey all,
A friend of mine is selling her old nook and I'm thinking of picking it up for my 7 year old. The Nook is a 8GB running 1.4.2. Do you think this would be a good beginner tablet or should I wait for a Nexus 7. Also what is a good price? Looking on ebay I see them going for $60-100.
Jeff
If they are telling you that its an 8gb, then it is probably a Nook Tablet and not a Nook Color.

Not true. Nook Color is an 8GB device. It just uses 3GB for its own use and only 5GB is available on emmc media partition. So if you read the specs, it says 8GB. You can tell the difference between a nook color and nook tablet by the color of the bezel. (Color is black and tablet is silver).
And a nook color is a great device for a seven year old. Those are reasonable prices for a used color.

I wouldn't pay more than you have to. If you're planning on putting some alternate firmware on it, it'll make a nice little tablet. I'd definitely stick it in a case with some shock-absorbing and screen protecting capabilities. Even if your kid is careful, others probably won't be.
The only drawback I can think of is that it only supports two point multi-touch, and some games might expect more. Ninja Fruit didn't work too well, IIRC.
I thought it was fruit ninja. Change the firmware though

The Nook Color with CM7.2 on a SD makes a great general purpose starter tablet for a kid. My 6-year-old daughter has had one since Christmas and she loves it. The NC is rugged enough to take alot of abuse from a kid without breaking.
Yes I agree, it really does hold up well against kids. I picked up a used nook color for my kids (4&6) because they wouldn't leave mine alone lol. I put a screen protector on and its worked out great.

To buy or not to buy?

Hey all, I did not see a topic like this posted so forgive me if there already is one.
I am looking to possibly buy my first tablet, and probably the HD+. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy Note (original, european version) which has a 1280x800 5.3" screen. Thus why I haven't bought a tablet. The nexus 7 was tempting but the low resolution relative to my phone and the lack of SD slot dissuaded me. Plus, while 7" is larger than my 5.3" phone, it wasn't enough.
Now enter the HD+ with its byond HD resolution, 9" of real estate and i'm interested. I played with one at my local B&M store and was impressed. I wanted to check xda first to see what the development community is like before I buy. So far the only negatives are:
* Most of the videos on youtube call it "laggy" or "slow" or "unresponsive" Is this fixed at all?
* Complete lack of USB support. Proprietary charger, etc
* Pretty heavy compared to 7" tablets
I'm posting this essentially to request someone convince me I need this tablet and that the devs are behind it with rooting, etc. How stable is CM10 now on it, for example?
Wow this forum is completely dead. Guess i have my answer.

nook hd+
I go my hands on a 16gig nook hd+ cheap i love it i chose it because the 7 inch tablets seem fine for reading kind of like a paperback but i also enjoy reading comics and way to small on a 7inch. The 10.1 inch tablets are a joke for reading books and are way to long for reading comics like holding a stone tablet in your hands. The nook hd+ and fire hd 8.9 seemed like that sweet spot i was looking for. I chose the nook hd+ over the fire 8.9 for many reasons first the deal i got on it $220 plus a teal book case, the screen is fantastic, micro sd card slot i dont use any streaming and i dont pay for downloads i have a giant harddrive full of mp4 videos epub books and cbz comic files i load myself, and right out of the box the nook hd+ reads .cbz comic files and pretty good at it so i didnt need to pay for anything, root or sideload any apps.
Now i read all the reviews on the nook hd they all reported lag unfinished operating system and nook store didnt have the same amount of multimedia support as the others. Im running the latest software on my nook hd+ and i have zero issues zero. And i have way to many of my own files to load to care if the nook store dosent have a certain movie ill download the latest torrent it plays my bluray 720p mp4 rips like a champ ill download latest books and use clibre to convert and load my epubs and ill download comic files and use comic rack to convert to .cbz
It comes down to you if you want to pay for downloads go with another tablet if you want to load your own stuff you wont get more bang for your buck then nook hd+
Plus if your gonna root that sd card slot is a must have
Oh ya i dont care about a front or back camera on a 9inch tablet thats why i have a phone and laptop
My advice: buy!
Then put CM10 as to verygreen on it and never look back.
I have the direct comparison to a nexus 7 and it is no contest. The screen of the HD+ is absolutely beautiful, the speed of the OS is absolutely okay - much better that the N7 running 4.2 actually.
With a 32 or 64 GB Sd-card you have tons of space.
I would say, atm the HD+ is the best value tablet available (thanks to the developments going on here).

Definitely buy.
I too was looking at a new tablet for 2013, similar to you. I have Kindle Fire 1st generation so I know what 7 inch tablet can do for me. Movies and reading books was fine but surfing and comics - not that good. I ordered the 64gb version and looking forward to it
The only downside I was considering is lack of front facing camera for Skype but I solved that problem with a new phone. Another downside is the speakers location on only one side but I can live with that.

It's 32gb. In my mind I added the 32gb on board with my 32gb mem card.

I hear ya. The only major problem with the HD+ is the proprietary charger and lack of Bluetooth. If you're cool with that its all good.

Bluetooth works, no lack at all! I stream music and use MAPS with my phone's GPS using BT.
I've had mine for about a week now. Some very good help on here for installing google play store (without even rooting) and booting cm10 from the sd card. That's why I got it. The main drawbacks in my mind was no access to play store, and proprietary version of android. But those issues have been taken care of by folks on this forum, and the only thing left as negatives were the proprietary charging/usb port and no camera... I think I'll be able to live with those.
I still haven't gotten adb working but adbwireless seems to do the trick so that's not an issue now either. I'm on the Buy It side as well.

Aside from rooted stock being allergic to to any changes to system files I quite like the Nook HD. It is a good size for reading at the table but so was my old Galaxy Tab 7+. I could have gone for the N7 but I have a bitter hatred against Google for deciding on us that we don't need that micro sd port. Sounds abit like a certain other company no?
Buy if you are ok with that limitation (only if you are on stock though)
Frankly I liked the Nook Color the most
