[Q] How to upgrade to 10.1? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have CM 9 tenderloin on my HP Tp. I tried to find tutorials on how to do this but I am unable to locate any information. How can I upgrade to 10.1? How can I install 10.1 from scratch if upgrade si not possible?
I would appreciate if someone can post a useful link for me? As I mentioned I cant find good info on it, I think I just keep looking for wrong kind of information...
thanks

The same as any other rom, flash with CWM or use ACMEInstaller.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Can I upgrade to 10.1 though? Will I loose all my data and ifnromation on it if I wipe out the system? If I have to wipeout CM 9 tenderloin, and do a fresh install how do I do that? Naturally I want to be able to retain as much information and app installation as possible along the process.
thanks

Everything is here:

I used this page to update to 10.1 yesterday. Everything went smoothly, except for the fact that Bluetooth no longer works and the volume buttons are inversed. The July 12 nightly (cm-10.1-20130712-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin.zip) apparently fixes the volume button problem, but you're going to have to live without Bluetooth in CM10.1.
To update, all you have to do is download two files (cm-10.1-20130712-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin.zip and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip) to a folder on your SD card. Once you've done this, boot ClockwordMod and select "Install ZIP from SDCard." Find the two zip files, and start by installing the gapps. Once you've done that, install the cm-10.1 zip.
I followed this process last night and was able to save all of my data, albeit there are a few issues with CM10.1 on the TP. But they'll probably fix those in future nightlies.

The fix you're referring to dates back to March, things have come on a long way since then . Why don't you make a backup of your current rom and try the latest nightly you will probably be pleasantly surprised.
I'm surprised anyone is still using CM7. I second the suggestion of using the latest CM9 Nightly.

Yeah new to this, it's that my tp worked great since the cm 7 install I never had a problem until the last 2 months, so I found that update. Where do I find the nightly updates and do I have to start at a certain one or just do the latest?
Thanks!!!

I read that the touch screen didn't work well and really liked the cm 7 but lately it's been acting up and I haven't done any updates to it. That's what really surprised me. If I go to cm 9 will I loose all my programs?

I'm not sure if there are certain steps you have to follow from going from CM7 to CM9 since when I got my TP, I went straight to CM9. But I think you can just download the latest ICS google apps file (gapps) and the latest nightly and then in clockwork recovery, do a data wipe/factory reset, wipe cahce and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the nightly then the gapps. You should be fine.

I havent heard anything about the touch screen not working well. It works fine for me. And yes, you will lose your apps since you need to do a factory reset. But use Titanium backup to backup your apps. Then when you get on cm9, restore them. Just dont backup and restore system data. Apps and app data ONLY.
Ok after combing through this site there is alot I mean alot of updates after installing cm9. Is there a latest and greatest install walk through out any where? Also how or where do you get the nightly updates or is there an app that grabs them?
Thanks everyone, since I can't boot I might as well go to cm9.

Thanks, I wil give this a try tomorrow, getting to late to start in this now.
Thanks again!!
stayed up and took a crack at it. followed instructions to a T except did the ACMEUninstaller first. Then rebooted and then did the ACMEInstaller. But I still get the loop, it goes into cyanogen Loading... then shutsdown and reboots to the menu. Am I supposed to delete anything after the ACMEUninstaller before I run the ACMEInstaller?
Was there a Base CM 9 that I am supposed to have installed before I install any of the nightly builds....?
Also if I run the Nightly do I have to perform any tasks first or just go and run zip file from SD?
Thanks
UPDATE - copied update- nightly from notes above and ran install from zip from SD and got it going. Nice, really like the new look. I still need to know how to safely backup apps and data for future nightly updates (step by step please) because I have a few days of work ahead of me to get this back to my configuration.
PS - Has anyone tried True Image or Ghost to create a backup image of the SD and if so does it work when it's restored?
Thanks again!!!!!

No base, you can start directly from the latest nightly which is 0909
"Step by step please", if you need to make that statement you honestly need to do quite a bit more reading, and I say that in all kindness to keep you from having trouble with your device
There are a MULTITUDE of apps, both free and paid to back up all your apps and info
As far as backing up the contents of the internal SD, I tried everything out there and then came back to tried and true command line, look up a command line operation called robocopy... what you do is boot into recovery and mount the USB storage. Then there are several commands you can issue to copy files from your inner SD to your computer but the one I use is /mir, which replicates the contents EXACTLY, even hidden files, but like I said look up the wiki page on robocopy for more details
Have fun with the CM9 and get ready for CM10 hopefully not too far in the future, and do plenty of relaxed reading
One bug I am having. The nightly I was told was the update-cm-9-20120815-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip works fine but when I run the newest update-cm-9-20120909-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip it stops and states bad file. Then it wont boot into CM9. So i run the update-cm-9-20120815-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip once again from install from zip and it boots. I can extract the update-cm-9-20120909-NIGHTLY-tenderloin.zip and see all the files while its on the TP SD card. So is there a step I am missing when installing from zip to the latest and greatest Nightly?
Thanks
PS - This has happened on two different HP TP's I have.

Only thought is there may be something wrong with the download even if you can see it from a file manager. Suggest downloading again and checking md5 sums

[Q] Optimus 2x p990 won't install pa_p990-2.6-08-newbl-tonyp.zip

Hi all,
Im usually pretty good with roms but i now realize i also can get ICS on which has opend a whole new world for me and suddenly i find myself in the noob seat yet again..
Im trying to install the newst Paranoid Andriod which i assume is this one:
pa_p990-2.6-08-newbl-tonyp.zip
I have downloaded the zip file as i do with all the other roms i have tried. I boot my phone into recovery and brows the SD card where i choose to install the rom. The installation start and after som time it pops me back into the recovery menu and nothing has happend.
I have tried to delete everything
I have troed with Miui version 4.3.2.8 and opti-trust 1.3A and those did the same..
Im suspecting that i missing something more deep with in the os. Maybe a kernal update or something? Maybe i have to update my andriod to ICS but i can't find out how to do that..
After allot of tried i finally managed to screw up my phone and had to recover back to a cyanogen mod i had stored on the SD card.
currently my phone is running with
Andriod-version: 2.3.7
Base band version: 1035.21_20120521
Kernal system: 2.6.32.55-Cyanogenmod [email protected]) )
Mod version is Cyanogenmod-7.2.0-p990
Version number is GWK74 (don't know if you need that)
can anyone point me in the right direction??
Sincerely
Offerlam
To start with, if you're using CM7.2, then you're on the old bootloader.
If you try to install new bootloader roms, the best that will happen is that they will not work.
Check which bootloader a rom is for before installing
Edit: You may have messed up your partition layout by flashing new bl roms. If this is the case and you are having issues, you will have to use the AIO tool from the development section to fix it.

Thank you for your answer but i need it to be dumped down ALOT more... like i know the technical term for a bootloader but what constitute a bootload on andriod? is this a bootloader P990_Stock-ICS-v28g-v3.01-standard.zip? I guess that must be ice cream sandwish? if so i tried to install it from the recovery prompt on the phone but that didn't work... perhaps i do have that patition issue you mentioned?
You have to download the old bl version of PA for your case
1. If you are unable to install/use any ROM properly after trying pa_newbl, it means that partitions have got messed up, and you need to:
Download AIO toolkit, install nvflash drivers in that, put internal_sd_fix from AIO thread and ROM zip file in SD card, then select option 4, and follow the process. Select old/gingerbread bootloader when asked, and cwm version of your choice. Then put a ROM flash int-sd_fix and the ROM in recovery.
2. If your partitions are ok (you are able to use cm7.2 properly), just wipe and flash pa-oldbl version (download link in same thread).

Wouldn't there be other benefit by changing my bootloader to a newer one?

the recommended way is
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
format system
flash ROM
flash Gapps (some prefer to reboot after this...I never do that)
flash the latest stable Kernel (usually Kowalski Kernel)
I am sure you can get past the start screen.....
Note: First time boot takes longer with this ROM....so stay normal
TRY to keep the battery more than 70%...so you can finish all this work without any power issue.
hope this helps my friend

HI..
How to i format the system? is there a option for that in the recovery console?
and thanks for your steps... they really clarified allot for me..
I havne't gotten a answer on the bootloader thing. I was suggestet to keep running with my old bootloader but wouldn't everything not work better if i ran with the newst bootloader or does that not matter?
Is bootloader = Andriod version? say Ice cream sandwish is a bootload? can you say that?

[Q] Install Android only

Hello All;
I have decided to try and male my HP touch pad an Android only touch pad.
I need help though as i am a novice at best.
I am looking for help on the files i will need. Want to install CM 10 recent and CWM.
Do i need a boot loader or will that be in the ROM?
And what other files will i need?
i am assuming i need a ROM, Recovery, and GAPPS. Other than that i am not sure.
Found someone on the WebOS Nation who is willing to help so i dont want to go into this like and idiot, i want to have my ducks in a row.
Any help will be appreciated
thanks
This is a good guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147284. As for Android-only, I don't recommend it. WebOS has gotten me out of Android trouble before.

Good point, Hey let me ask you something.
I like flashing ROMs but I always end up with a mess. Moboot, i dont think updates as grub2 does. So, i have thought the best way to switch ROMs would be treating the ROM as a first install, does that make sense and do you agree?
Or do you know a method to change ROMs that works well for you?

Android doesn't update the way Linux does, it only updates apps; the bootloader isn't going to update neatly from a package manager. At the same time, updating the TP's bootloader (moboot) is usually unnecessary. On the other hand I usually like to keep my recovery (TWRP/CWM) up to date. When I switch ROMs I just wipe and flash from recovery. Never had a problem.

As far as I know, most ROM install scripts automatically wipe system for you. Can't hurt to try, though.
Thankfully I have this zip again thanks to sstar posting it the other day. This zip will wipe your ulmage clean. Just flash it as you would a rom, than flash rom and gapps after.

[Q] Lost root, moboot, and cant boot into recovery

Was running moboot .38 with twrp 2.5.0.0 when I decided to flash schizoid 1.25(?) over the march 6th release. Didn't like it so I wiped ROM and restored backup. After reboot, it went straight to schizoid. That's all it will do.
The question is: can I, and how can i put my HP touchpad back to "stock" so that I may use acme installer3 and start from the beginning?

Make sure your TP is chargerd and reboot it using the power and home key button. Once you do that hold down the volume up key and while it plugged into the PC. That will get you into WebOS Recovery so that you can push acmeunistaller then you will have a HP Touchpad with WebOS only were you can reinstall the rom from acmeinstall2 or acmeinstall3. I had the same issuse.

Any way to run Android 4.1.2 on Nook HD+?

Hi all
I am desperately trying to find a way to flash a 4.1.2 ROM to my Nook HD+ as there is a certain stremaing video engine (Acesteam) that does not work with 4.2 and higher.
I've tried to flash CM10 which I believe is based on 4.1.2 without success - I get into a boot loop and then Nook just flashes stock recovery.
My Nook has had latest B&N stock and also CM10.1 ROMs flashes previously - I can flash latest stable 10.1 and B&N stock without problem, so wondering if there is any reason why it would be impossible to roll back to Android 4.1.2?
Thank you so much for your time, I really do appreciate the sterling efforts of the experts on here.
Cheers
Mike

Having looked at these, it is the latest version that I tried to install (cm-10-20130511-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-sdcard.zip)- I got it from this thread (just to prove I do search before posting!!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364
I have an issue with this method as I am a Windows user without adb, so can't access the CM10SDCARD partition created by the boot image to copy the relevant zip files to.
I've tried using a later CWM and also writing the image from the "sdcard-cwm-early4.img.gz" file in the thread to an SD card and copying the bootfiles to a larger partition (then including the relevant CM10 zip) but both methods result in a boot loop then stock recovery.
Perhaps somebody knows what might be going wrong? Would dearly love to be able to do this.
Cheers all
Mike
