[ROOT] Samsung Galaxy Pocket (GT-S5300) - Samsung Galaxy Pocket

Hi guys,
Rooting this device is just unfairly easy. What you have to do is download the update.zip for the galaxy pocket (see below) and place it into the root of you phone (I think thats somewhere at /mnt/sdcard (at my phone atleast)). Then put off your phone and boot into recovery mode (VOLUME UP+HOME+POWER). Click apply update from sdcard (navigate with volume, select with home button) and at the top there should be the update.zip . Just select it , press home and wait a little while. Press reboot and BOOOOOM youre rooted. You can check this by searching for the app Superuser between your installed apps.
(download update.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?oh8h3aob7mja9mk )

Visit this thread for All-in-One details for Galaxy Pocket GT-5300 Cori
[Guide] Know your Device: Galaxy Pocket GT-S5300

Do put it in SD ( Not in SD-ext) . Also use CWM recovery. If it is nor working , Flash using PC with Odin

With this method, do you still need to put the device into usb debugging mode before you power down, and reboot into download mode?

Good day guys.
I need help in rooting this phone.
I've been trying to do that three-button combo to get in to recovery, but every time I do, the phone just boots straight to Android.
Is there any other way to get to the recovery menu?
By the way, the Vol_Down button is damaged, it cannot be used.

After rooting phone vibrates randomly (one 1 sec vibration followed by 2 shorter vibrations). Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Same problem here with random vibrations after rooting.

i cannot download the link any alternatives?

Fake-flash by Koush, launching recovery without a PC

Now updated and working!
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
Koush and I have been working on / stumbling through getting recovery running on a Legend without using a PC for devices rooted with a test image. The same technique also applies to the Desire... and after a lot of work and debugging... presenting...
fake-flash!
Fake-flash using a similar concept to the original root method, it launches a recovery image from the test image recovery, but instead of pushing the files from a PC, the files are extracted from an update.zip on the SD card. Here's how it works...
Preperation
Download the fake-flash update zip from one of the links below
Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card (the name MUST remain as update.zip)
When you want to launch the recovery image
Turn on your device with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'
When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'
Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip
That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!
Neat eh?
DOWNLOAD
Just to caveat this initial release, we've yet to carry out extensive testing and you are constrained somewhat by the limitations of the stock kernel (e.g. no support for EXT4).
That's it for now... enjoy... i'll update this post as further advances are made. If you'd like to support Koush's work, consider buying 'ROM Manager Premium' from the Android Market.

i got saem errår Q.Q!
question
What does it really do excatly, i am a newbiee here. Sorry about that.
if your phone is rooted you can flash a new rom without connecting your phone to the computer
It works only on rom 1.22 i think...
you probably need a goldcard for that, so keep it in mind
still not working?
Thread disapeard on modaco :s
To someone this procedure works?
From that that I have understood it is not the FakeFlash of the Desire of the Legend?
And accordingly on the Legend it doesn't work (at least on my Device )
Would like us a FakeFlash I suit for the legend
I cannot make it work.
Just like other i receive this error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
in the modaco topic (http://android.modaco.com/content/h...unching-recovery-on-your-device-without-a-pc/) is written in bold:
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
I tried but ROM Manager:
Clicked on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
it pops up a selection Menu with "Confirm Phone Model" (the only option is HTC Legend)
then it downloads the fake-flash recovery e returns me "Successfully downloaded ClockworkMod recovery".
When i try to reboot in recovery (trough ROM MANAGER options) i receive a blackscreen with a device in background and a question mark. After some seconds it restarts.
Help!
I have the same error.
Anybody asked Koush?
May he works on it?

[Q] update.zip error bell's galaxy s

I am trying to root my phone. The 3 button combo doesn't work. I am trying the adb reboot recovery method.
When I select apply sdcard:update.zip i get the error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I also see some yellow text about "assert failed ro.product.device" 2 times.
One for GT-I5800, then GT-I9000.
I believe my phone is GT-I9000M. Is there any specific update.zip file I need to use?
Yea that's the wrong file. Search for Bell unlock and you will find the right one.
I'd link it but I'm posting from my phone.

thanks that worked.

im a bit confused myself. i updated my phone to froyo via odin the other day and since then ive had force close loops and been unable to use any apps. when i boot into recovery mode and apply sdcard:update.zip as i was advised i get this message:
E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
i assumed this was a file that was already supposed to be on my phone. i also assumed this was the reason im having the force closes as i am unable to format my sd card or delete anything from it.
Normal method is download to PC Connect phone in USB mass storage mode and transfer file to Phone sd card as update . Might need to rename the file if not update .
Power phone on via Recovery mode and navigate clockwork recovery to update.zip .

dud first download any ROM(like Darky i prefer or DOC) and keep the file in your internal sdcard say in /sdcard/download.
Then goto recovery mode and install from sdcard-> choosed zip from sdcard-> then card to the zip file location /sdcard/download, then select the file and instal.
you can move to folders using ur volume up and down key.
You can find ROM's in [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665"/URL]
Enjoy..
When your in recovery what does it say ??? does it say 'clockwork recovery' or summit like 'android recovery system <3e>
First step would be to read the FAQs as you are trying to start at the middle instead of the beginning .
What exactly are you trying to achieve .

Signature error is caused by trying to install an unsigner update.zip on recovery 3e. if you want help you should:
FIRST: read FAQS and Walktrough. When you read and understand them, you may proceed to doing what you want.
SECOND: Take time to WRITE every informations needed, like your GOALS and what has been done as of yet.
Asking for "update.zip" is like going to the garage and asking for an oil filter without telling the make, brand and year of your car. You might end up with an oil filter for a compressor instead of what you need.
THIRD: Don't do anything until you trully understand what you are doing. Or you might end up bricking your device (and blaming samsung for it?!)

Hi XDA experts,
I need help on how to recover from a boot loop for samsung gt-s5830i, I have the following scenarios;
1. The phone is not rooted ever since.
2. The 3 combo buttons to download mode are not working (power+volume DOWN+home). Basically I can press them but not working.

It's my friends phone, so I don't know the firmware version or baseband so to speak, what I know is it's made in China.

Stuck without a OS

Good Morning
Very ironic, but i came here to ask about rooting my phone a year back and now i'm back in sort of the same situation..
A year back I rooted my froyo 2.2.1 based Galaxy S to a gingerbread version, then i used quite a few of the ICS roms available on this forum, had been using Cyanogen for the past few months.Yesterday i had some free time,so i thought would check out the JB roms available.
So i did the usual, download the JB version of Fishears since i had a iNand.put it in my internal sdcard..but i could not access the memory card from CWM 5.0.2.7..,so i put it in my external memory card and tried to run the zip from there, but the process got aborted in the middle, tried it twice, dint work.
Then i remembered i had faced this internal memory problem before, had to go and switch on the debugging mode in the developer option.[P.S:- i had been facing the encryption successful problem for half a year, was too lazy/busy to fix it,i just took it in my stride and rebooted a lot to get into the homepage]
So,I'm in CWM and i run the usual process and run the zip file from the internal sdcard,it started out fine, them BOOM.my phone reboots all of a sudden. When it restarts,it does not have a OS to boot into, the green android image with a red exclamation mark and a few text appears which happens too fast to read and it keeps rebooting and this process goes on.
I can still access CWM and the download mode,i tried going into CWM but the internal sd doesnt open and the zip file fails to mount from the external sd.
So i thought **** it,i'll do the rooting part again and i run up ODIN,download the semaphore 2.7.4 kernel, and i see it is just 15 mb or so,i remembered i used more than 1 file and used the pit folder also, but i read it on the semaphore website, its only 1 file and have to use it as the PDA.went to download mode and odin recognised it and the process completed without a hitch,it even showed a green PASS..
but the problem came when it had to reboot after the process,it got stuck in the "Galaxy S GT I9000" page and never moved forward.it was there for 30 minutes or so before i pulled out the battery.
Basically
1.I cant get past that page
2.I can access the CWM and Download modes
3.I accepted my mistake and thought of not doing any more mistakes,so icame here
4.When i boot into CWM mode, these errors come

hope this will help.
I had this problem with Paranoid Android before... the zip was corrupt.
If you are able to extract the rom with winrar/winzip/totalcmd or other program, install it, if it is corrupt, download it again again and again...

Ok dont know whether this is good or bad
I installed CM9 from the external sd as the internal sd was inaccesible in any way..the installation showed info like
"the internal sd card marker could not be found
Going ahead with installation"
the installation continues and restarts once and updates but it does not boot into the main page,it directly goes into the Encryption Unsuccessful page. When i try Reset Phone,it goes into the CWM recovery screen with some errors,
when i try to install CM10 from this recvery screen,it initially stops the installation saying the data partition layout is different and all my data will be wiped.run the .zip to go ahead with the progress.I run this it goes directly into the CWM 6.0._._ and it doesnt show any errors,i try to reboot it gets stuck on the galaxy s screen.
this situation is better than the previous condition as i know a OS can still run on my Phone..Just need to get this thing rectified now
Please if anyone could help me right now,i would be really grateful..not able to contact anyone without my phone
