I was hoping it would let you mirror your device but it basically turns your Tablet/PC/Laptop/Android into a remote. Allowing you to queue up videos and send them to your tv wirelessly. I think it's pretty cool that you can queue up stuff and continue to use your device for other things. Perhaps someone will be able to hack it so it can mirror your android device?

I just checked Best Buys website and with my silver premier membership if I used next day shipping for $3 it would arrive between July 26th and 29th. Expedited said arrival would be July 27th to 30th.
EDIT: Just checked again and now it's showing sold out online. Was still in stock 5 to 10 minutes ago.

I am near hollywood. Ill tell you thing, im definitrly glad they included an extender thing... Its definitely not going to easily fit in some tv's without the extender. That said seems google really thought this one through!

People have been reporting that they just walked into best buy yesterday evening and asked for them and was able to purchase them. During the announcement yesterday, they said it would be available at Best buy starting on the 28th. Seems like most stores already have them in stock, you just have to ask for it specifically.
I grabbed mine at Best Buy this afternoon on Long Island. It's really awesome, especially with the 3 free months of Netflix. You can stream local media on it as well. I'm using Plex media server for that, and you can also stream Amazon Prime Video too, so it's a really versatile solution for really cheap.

So far, netflex and youtube are working great. however casting from chrome browser is like a joke. very very choppy. I tried it from my laptop, chromebook, the result is un-useable.
Wish more native apps will be release soon.

To be fair, I believe that the "cast a tab" functionality is still in beta. Perhaps it will be optimized with time and performance may improve. Also, it uses 2GHz wifi bands, so it could potentially be affected by other 2GHz devices in the area.

That is true. if chrom url can redir to receiver side, and disconnect from sender, that would a good start.

Best buy is where it is at. shopping cart by customer service. what a great deal. using chrome to stream i am on my desktop over 40 foot from my rougher on my desktop pc pushing video files with no problem. also the tv is 15 ft from the rougher that is 40 ft from my desktop. also i have found when pushing from phone or tablet you can reboot and netflix keeps on playing. i give it 12 stars out of 10 great job google. i hope soon we could do screen share from our devices or pc's {playing games on a device that is charging with moga pro! That would be sick!!}
I just picked one up at Best Buy. They still had a few left in stock.
They also gave me the 3-months of Netflix (it prints out on the receipt). Pretty nice since that promotion was discontinued. I didn't really have a particular need for it, but at $11 (after Netflix discount), it was a no brainer.

I thought I would pass this on. Right now Bestbuy.com has the Samsung Galaxy 8.9 for $349 also with a free keyboard dock. This does say online only but I bought my tablet last Friday and just talked with Customer Support and they said I should be able to go into the store and get $50 back and the dock. (I paid $399 for mine.)

Yes I saw that and ordered mine. They can also do it thru their phone orders. I couldn't get it to add the free dock online, so I called and chose the store pickup option. I jumped on this as well, didn't encounter any issues with the dock showing in the cart. Store pick up on the tablet tomorrow, but the dock is on a bit of a back order for a few days.
I've gone back and forth on the Tab 8.9 for a while, if it had an Exynos or OMAP4, I'd have jumped a while ago. Darn Tegra 2.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is the perfect size to me. Out of all the tablets I've tried it seems to have the best form factor!

I purchase one of these last time Best Buy had it on sale for $349 without the dock. Didn't open it up and after some reading I decided to return it. Wound up getting the AT&T LTE version on craigslist for $420. The reasoning was I didn't want a Tegra 2 version and liked the option of having LTE available if needed....The downside is not much developement for the LTE versions yet. Seeing how it's a giant Skyrocket mostly I'm hoping it'll come soon. I can live with honeycomb for now.
I also took advantage of this offer and bought the 8.9 with keyboard dock.
Does anyone know whether the full functionality of this keyboard dock is compatible with current ROMs such as AOKP Galaxian-Soup? Any info is appreciated.
I got this deal last week. I also rooted and installed Galaxian Soup ASOP and for the most part the keyboard dock still functions correctly. There are a few function keys that no longer work but the majority of the important ones do. IIRC the lock function key no longer unlocks the device but does wake it up. For the most part it has not hampered me from using it. I have not noticed any issues with mine short of the few function keys that either quit working or work a little bit differently now.

When did you buy the device? If it was within the time they were offering the deal, I'd take a print out of the advertisement to your local BB and ask.

Futureshop also has them physically in stock. Picked mine up yesterday as waiting for it from google is ridiculous.
I also got mine yesterday(defininatly a step up from my htc desire z lol)I called staples the day before and told them I'm from out of town and I'm coming in tomorrow is there any in stock they said yup and I asked them to hold it for me I haven't had the privilege of getting to explore everything yet, and I do not believe in extended warranties on good products.

Picked mine up at Staples yesterday and am loving it so far. Screen's a little washed out compared to my PlayBook, but not too bad. Otherwise, great tablet so far. I'm also missing the Transformers movie. When I go to the video player app, it tells me there are no movies there.

You need to download it from your movies in the Play Store. It's actually not preloaded on the device itself.
Wal-Mart.com had them, shipping free to your nearest store or shipping for .97 cents to your home. They are in stock now. Also my local Wal-Mart was stocked with them as well but the Wal-Mart in the next city was sold out.

Mine wasn't. How large is the movie on your device? Mine is being streamed when I watch it.
Did you go to "play movies and tv" and click on the pin on the bottom right corner?
I found the Transformers movie you have to go to your library you can stream it, or if you touch the little TAC icon you can download it at the cost of 2.82 gigs not worth the space IMO I rather stream it. Its yours forever.

got mine from staples on the 17th... called my local store that morning they said they had 2 and to come on in.. I got there and they said corporate wasn't going to let them sell it and they would hold it for me. so they sent me away with 25 dollars in coupons. i still made a stink cuz it was there and it didn't make sense since street date had already happened. guy called me about 2 hours later and said to come in and he would sell it to me. so i used my 25 dollar coupons and i bought a service plan that if anything happens to it for 2 years, breaks in any way they will replace it. sounded decent for 40 bucks since the screen on my galaxy nexus is already cracked.

Nearly all the stores in the 12180 region has the 16's in stock

I ordered mine on the 17th at Staples and it was there by the 20th.
When I open the Play Movies & TV app, I see the Movies, and Personal Videos tabs. In the Movies one, it says "Looks like you don't have any movies. Touch the shop icon above to browse our full catalog, or choose from the suggestions below." All the movies it does show just link to the Google Play store page for these movies.
If I click on the "Personal Videos" tab, I get a message saying "No Videos Found: You can copy videos from your computer using a USB cable).
In either case I don't see a pin or anything else I can tap. I first thought it's because I'm in Canada, but a Staples demo unit had it, so I'm confused. When setting up the device, I set my language as English (United States).

Same here, It showed up in videos out of the box. It is only a stream though. Which is good. I don't need it taking up storage. I have the 16gb.

Ditto, did they tell you that you can't return if you don't like it? The rep at my local staples said it had to have a defect, yet their return policy says only of you aren't 100% satisfied.. Its a great tablet for the price, but its not really different to my galaxy nexus... kind of feel like I have two identical products, just one has a bigger screen (not as sharp I might add)and my gnex can make calls.

I am probably going to have one of the first Chromecast dongles in Canada unless someone ordered it with 1-day shipping or got it from a Best Buy across the border. I ordered it from Amazon with 2-day shipping to pick up in Point Roberts. I should have it by Friday or Saturday. I can report back as to how many region-related obstacles it throws up.
The first is getting the Chromecast setup apk as it's not available on CDN Play Store. Thanks to the helpful Dropbox link in this forum, I've got that covered.
If there is anything to note that CDN Chromecast users should be aware of, I will edit this first post on an ongoing basis.
EDIT: I have posted the Chromecast apk as of 2013/07/31 to the top post.
Summary:
- Everything works.
- If you have cloud music enabled on your Google Play Music it works.
- CDN Netflix works.
- YouTube works.
- Google Cast from Chrome desktop works. I do not have a powerful enough desktop to stream video but that is unrelated to region.
- If you connect your Android to a VPN or a DNS-changing service to try and access non-CDN Netflix, it will not cast titles unavailable in Canada to Chromecast successfully. Workarounds include either connecting your router itself to the VPN, or entering custom scripts into your router to redirect its hard-coded reliance on Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4).
Cool, so I guess I'm not the only one in Canada looking to get one. I got someone to order one for me, but I won't have it in my hands any time soon (10-20 days).
Looking forward to hear about any region issues. Hopefully there aren't many.

I installed the Chromecast app and am wondering now if the nexflix / youtube etc apps for chromecast to work are also region specific. Please let us know! I ordered but a little too slowly so I'll have to wait.

Just got mine too! Been playing with it for an hour.
Setup worked via Nexus 7 using the apk posted upthread.
No problems with Netflix, YouTube or Google Play Music, casting from phone or tablet.
My old netbook on Windows XP was still willing to let me attempt to cast a Chrome tab but the results were lousy. From my dual-core desktop I had acceptable results casting a non-HD MP4 file direct, casting static web tabs and casting YouTube videos which would already be optimized. Attempted to cast a Collegehumor video and it was too laggy. I guess I need to get myself a Core i5 or better one of these days!
But yes, no trouble in Canada at all. Out of interest I tried connecting my tab to a VPN and launching a Netflix video only available in the US. The Chromecast just errors out. Perhaps a service like Unblock-Us would be useful since you can set the DNS at the router level and then get US Netflix.

What dual-core processor specifically does your desktop ? I plan to do quite a bit of casting from Chrome and my computers aren't exactly the latest spec.

Pentium Dual Core E5300, 2.6 GHz.
I can add this: I set up my router with a free trial of Unblock-Us, and then tried to cast a Netflix show that is only available in the USA. Again I got an error. So whatever stream Chromecast is using, it's not intercepted by this service.

The Chromecast app is now appearing as available on all devices in my Play Store. Did Google remove the region lock?
EDIT: Nevermind, Google's web interface seems to think I'm in the USA now but Play Store on-device still thinks of me as CDN. Probably for unrelated reasons - a combination of a US billing credit card and Unblock-Us.

It does work with Netflix Canada. I can attest to that. The only thing is, the Chromecast setup app is not available on the CDN Play Store. That can be obtained from alternate sources.

I been enjoying house of cards via Netflix via a chromecast that arrived the other day, a birthday geek treat.. I like it. Finding stuff that isn't kak on YouTube is the hardest bit. They need to filter the **** out.
Improvements would be ui related when things load etc you Get those slightly outdated graphic, non buttery. Minor point, but one apple heads will point out. Sure it will get improved. Waiting for apps now...

I just got my chromecast in the UK - only had a quick play with it - very impressed so far!!
Trying to figure out how to block updates at the moment - as I want to stay on the rootable firmware just in case I can change the DNS when rooted at a later date!
which vendor did you guys use? and how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?
Well I did Amazon usa, using borderlinx. As it was a treat I chose express ship, total cost just shy of £50, think 48/46 if wanted regular shipping. I was ok with 50 as I reckon lowest release price here is going to be £35 and it was my birthday gizmo fix.. Just want more apps and tab apps but Netflix is pretty cool, till my 1month trial expires.. At which point my gf will get a trial.. Or else.

Went to local AT&T store for Note 3 + Gear. Got the Note, but the store didn't have any watches.
When I left, I called the one closer to work - they got some today but already sold out. Guess I picked the wrong store. I spend a while calling AT&T & T-Mobile stores around - nada. Even tried BB & RS - no luck there. Tried T-Mobile online, also all sold out.
Is this a real bad roll out, or is someone hoarding all the watches?

Bad Roll out. But Samsung always has these , I wonder if there was any hesitation on Sammys part given the atrocious reviews some people had.
It seemed like people were downright offended by this product.
The only one I have ever seen is the one I own. Never set eyes on one in a store etc? Note 3, yes, the Gear not a whiff? No idea why? Without the Note 3 the Gear is useless at present? Some very odd marketing with Samsung. This is nothing new in this country for this company though.

Cant see Samsung offending too many customers as trying to get the Gear is near impossible at present?

Samsung is being weird.
I think reviewers online and many potential customers were offended by the price. When it was discovered that the notifications were useless for anything other than Messaging/Email sites and there comments were full of bashing. For $300 people expected alot more....or maybe Samsung is getting backlash from iPhone fanboys ??
I dont know but people are bashing the Gear and its price tag everywhere.
Honestly if this was 150$-200$ OR if it worked the way people thought...reviews would be a little better.

If you compare what is on the market at present the Samsung is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of technology, functionality and software. I have said this many times and will write it again IF its fact the gear has a sapphire crystal that would well justify the price. You don't find sapphire crystals on watches costing 300.00€
I have niggles about the gear as well BUT would not dream of purchasing the Sony branded watches nor the others and I collect watches.
The Gear can make and receive calls and sms's that is a major selling point. If I can manage to get S-voice working wi fi free (the manual says it only needs blue tooth) I would be more satisfied as driving the car one need not takes ones eyes of the road to make nor receive calls My doubts lie in other areas like the strap and clasp. having written that there are no better in that regard either?
New technology is always expensive. Wait for the iWatch that will bring iTears to ones eyes. One other point, the price will have dropped like a stone within a few months in any case.

After way too much digging, I finally found one. Best Buy has some little cell stores in the area, but they showed on BB's store search (click item & search stores to see who has it).
At the store, they told me they got 5 the night before & sold 1 before mine. (They got 3 black, 2 white)
Why this little store had them when the full BB's had no clue what I was talking about... I have no idea.
I got mine for 225 amd couldn't be happier. Too bad I have to wait for the note 3 but it works fine with my s 4 just wish I didnt have to go back to this phone. Im gonna see if I download all the samsung stuff on an htc one with stock android if it will work which I highly doubt it will.
This Samsung launch was rather smooth compared to the Apple launch.
My store got one Gear in and it sold fairly quickly. Pretty impressive device.
Just picked a Mocha-colored unit from the local Ann Arbor, MI Bestbuy store. I haven't worn a watch in years and now am wearing one because of Gear! I don't know why some people don't think this watch is nice looking. It looks just fine to me, definitely having the quality and stylish look.
I'm trying it out right now but so far, so good.
