HOW TO: Ghetto Mirror Your Display - Google Chromecast

So I found a quick hack to get your screen mirrored to your Chromecast.
Step 1 - Install Chrome Remote Desktop extension in Chrome.
Step 2 - Remote desktop to your PC
Step 3 - Cast the remote desktop tab and enjoy!
Thought I'd share for those who were wanting to use this as a device for display mirroring. Working a little slowly but useably on a 2010 MacBook Pro. Chrome really hates displaying my desktop recursively for infinity though!

I'm hoping Chromoting gets baked into a future firmware update for CC.

Did you guys see the little menu option that allows you to cast your entire screen built into the extension itself?

What OS are you on? I'm on OS X with the latest beta and I don't see that option.
EDIT: Duh, didn't see that drop down. Sweet!

Are you getting audio output when you cast entire screen?

No, casting the full screen does not appear to grab audio.
I am currently testing on my Chromebook 550 (which, by the way is not even listed on Google's support pages as being able to cast), and its not sending any audio.

[webtop] Sounding off in Ubuntu

This is an article I've been meaning to write for a little while now, since audio on the Ubuntu part of the Atrix is a bit tricky.
The basic idea is this: when in lapdock mode, it would be nice to have a music player that's designed for that form factor. As such, a decent starting point is the default GNOME music management program for Ubuntu 9.04: Rhythmbox.

However, after installing Rhythmbox, three plugin errors pop up. Two of them don't matter much to me (the jamendo and the Magnatune Store ones) and can be disabled, but cover art should work. A bit of Google footwork reveals that installing python-gst0.10 fixes that (and the stores too).
Unfortunately, an attempt to then play a FLAC causes... playback with no sound. Based on a previous post, pulseaudio appears to serve as the audio backbone. Rhythmbox, on the other hand, uses GStreamer, so that connection might not be working properly.
Another Google search ends up bringing up a wiki page that suggests that gnome-media needs to be installed so that we can run gstreamer-properties.
But, the pulseaudio plugin supposedly isn't installed. So, gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio needs to be installed as well.
And, then, finally! It's possible to play music via Rhythmbox! This should also allow any other GStreamer-based programs to output sound as well.
P.S. Yes, I like the occasionally bad joke, as the title implies.
who listens to flac media files anyways
awesome, thanks!
and as you suspected it does fix sound in other apps, like pidgin.
hope you don't mind i added it to my list.

I really don't want to lose Google Chrome just for that, is there an alternative for Chrome to Phone but for chrome?
Read it Later is an excellent app that also has Chrome extensions.
If you go into Tools>Extensions and click Options under Chrome to Phone, what happens?

You can try Springpad. They have a Chrome extension (that you can use to cut and save web pages and make notes right from the omnibar/extension bar and an app (web app) for Chrome. They also have an android app. I use the extension to cut and save web pages and images and send them to my phone (or if I need to, I edit said page or image first in the web app....)

Wow... Thanks for the tips... I just installed it... I'm waiting to go home and test out...
From what I understand, to access your computer over the internet you need to pay a subscription fee for an 'Anywhere Access' pack.
iOS users on the other hand seem to get this for free for a lifetime.
I assume you can use it on your local network?

Get this remote control!

This little remote controls just about everything on my Android HU. They should have included this remote with my head unit, it's fantastic!
It's about $8 on Ebay or Amazon. It works great with Poweramp and most other applications.
It's a small black 2.4G Air Mouse with a red power button on center top and no keyboard.
Sorry I cant post images or links due to this forums restrictions.
waiting for the link !

Select Audio output through tasker

Hi,
In Android Oreo you can now select your desired audio output when connected to bluetooth
See this screenshot to see which option exactly:

(because i'm a new user this link is not showing correctly, here it is chopped up: https:// imgur.com /gallery /9xcWm )
(Concrete use case: play my Waze sound through phone speakers while listening to car FM radio and not using car media channel)
Is there any way to select this option throug Tasker?
Hi murnworb, did you finally figure this out?
I have the same question and havent been able to get an answer so far.
Thanks

Hi! Didn't find out through tasker but there's a setting in android Bluetooth settings that lets you choose per BT device what to play on it and what not:
