Just got the HTC One and Im not... - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Impressed with the layout, I just came from a NOTE 2 and previous from that was a ONE S. Phone design and materials are solid, but the clock, calendar and social media front screen all look plain, is there a ROM that will make it look like the widgets from the ONE S?

I'm coming from Windows Phone while waiting for their next gen devices. The One is a great and solid phone.
Sense 5 surprised me for its simplicity and well thought features and design. I guess there are people like you that don't like that aspect but you can easily change it using other ROM or widgets. For the widgets, there are many UCCW skins for clock, weather and other things. For calendar I use Clear Calendar Widget and for weather EZ Weather (free with no ads, great interface and good looking widgets). I use Nova Launcher Prime so I can't use stock Sense 5 widgets.
You can change your home screen to skip going to BlinkFeed when pressing the home button. If I remember correctly you can change it in the screen where you can add or delete other screens. Tap the one you one to be your home page and it will change. If you don't use BlinkFeed, remove everything from it.

I don't have the phone yet (**** you Verizon) but I'm guessing you cant use blink feed in another home replacement like Nova can you?
Also have they made any improvements to the way Sense 5 can be customized for icons and such? Can you hide icon names yet? Can you change how many icons you can have on the screen? (example: like adding rows and columns)

Port the aesthetics over to widgets ??/

Is it possible to make widgets that look like those that are found in the hero roms, for a regular home screen? Do you think it would be posible to port the aesthetics over to widgets for the other home apps? because those by and far knock out the current widgets in the looks department.
Just an idea.
I second that. I would love to see full screen Weather widget with some animation.... and a bookmark widget... and Twitter widget... and Email widget.... I want all of them!!!!!
Would like this too...Any devs interested?
Count me in ! i also want all these widgets especially the message widget, our G1 are nt fully using 3D.

[Q] Is there a way to use the Samsung widgets when TouchWiz is not your Launcher?

I really like some of the Samsung widgets, but to not like the Touchwiz launcher. So, I installed Launcher Pro, which I vastly prefer. Unfortunately, now the Samsung widgets are not in the add widget menu.
Is there any trick I can do to get them back?
I'd also like to know this, the Facebook Stream widget was really useful, the stock one is awful!

Yeah that is the widget I want most as well.
It is the best I have seen for android so far that integrates both twitter and facebook. I tried out this one on the market called "Socialite", it is *OK*, but not as good as the Samsung one.
So i have to decide, do I want a decent integrated Facebook / Twitter widget, or do I want a decent launcher?
???
Does anybody have an answer to this? I myself like pretty much all the futures in TW - would mainly like to change the 4 icons on the bottom and maybe even have the ability to hide the notification bar.
Is there a way to incorporate TW samsung widgets into launcher pro for example?
Thanks
I suppose Samsung's widgets are tied to the Touchwiz Launcher and incompatible with other launchers
It's a pity because I really like the Accuweather Clock over the other available widgets. But LauncherPro is so much better than the Samsung Launcher, I can't go without a launcher that lets me hide apps from the app drawer due to the massive amount of crap it gets flooded with.
You can change the left 3 icons on the bottom (but not the Applications one).
Just go to the Applications screen and press Menu and choose Edit. Then, move the icons off and put another in place.
I'm pretty sure it's impossible. I wanted to do that but was told by different ppl it was impossible. Same goes for Launcher Pro widgets in Touchwizz (i prefere the LP ones vs the Samsung). They are tied to the launcher u use.
You could put Home Switcher on each of the home screens of TW and LP then just switch between them just like moving to a different page. Just an idea.
Thanks fro the ideas, sounds like it's a no-go for right now at least.....
One more thing, does launcher pro juice the battery as same as TW? And when I used launcher pro in the past, I really liked to use the option "hide notification bar", i think it gives it a cleaner look, but at the same time it won't notify me when i receive an email ( other than the sound), I did search this in the past with no luck, so is there a widget, icon, something that I can install that will show on the screen when I received email, when using LP?
Thanks
I use executive assistant but it is a paid app. Worth it I believe though.

Why launcher pro?

Hello guys im wondering y people use laumcher pro? Isnt phone comes with 7 homescreen already? Isnt home replacement usually for 1.5 or 1.6 users that have 3 homescreens? Please tell us why u use launcher pro. Thanks

I bought launcherpro plus. The thing that I love the most is the notification icons for gmail, missed calls, and sms. The developer has quite a few widgets for the plus version; they all try to emulate HTC sense. It is very customizable, similar to ADW... which is also a very good alternative. I think that people should try the different launchers (ADW & Launcherpro) to see if it works best for them.
Dock and dock icons customizations
Because it has a lot more features than standard home launcher (unrooted) and it's way more customizable
- Ability to hide apps from the app drawer (the kinda apps that you don't want to uninstall).
- It has it's own amazing widgets, 5 now and counting.
- elastic scrolling
- up to 3 scrollable docks
- custom dock background
- missed calls, sms, and gmail counters in dock
- 5 columns app drawer
- resize any widget
- as snappy as stock launcher
- shortcuts to system activities
- ability to assign 2 actions to each dock icon: a tap-action and a swipe-action
to name a few
Why don't you try it before asking?
LauncherPro support more than stock such as:
7 homescreen (stock is 5 not 7)
Easier customize on dockbar which stock lack.
Up to 3 scrollable dockbar.
Better pinch to preview all 7 screen rather than stock tinner 7 view.
Widget resize to our preferable size.
Plus edition having useful sense like widget, at the moment include people, messaging, bookmarks, agenda & twitter. More will be developed in future.
Hiding unwanted apps in app drawer.
Ability to add system activities shortcut which can't be added by stock, example ability to extract stock camera - camcorder app as shortcut.
Ability to add more hidden shortcut, example add new contact shortcut.
Missed calls, sms, and gmail counters in dockbar.
Smoother than stock.

Why not ?
Because I like using applications that take from other applications.
The 3 scrolling docks, much smoother home screen scrolling, hide the status bar. These are by far my top features. I too purchased the paid version.

New Launcher

any one see this new launcher
http://www.appbrain.com/app/netfront-life-screen/com.access_company.android.nflifescreen
runs fairly good on the captivate, but good for first release, pretty creative launcher compared to all others
I like it. I will run it for a bit. I like the ring concept it is pretty sweet. The previews are nice well.
Wishlist for this home launcher
Add custom wallpaper.
Ability to remove the twitter, mixi, and rss feeds from the ring launcher.
Ability to add a folder to the ring launcher.
Customize number of apps in the ring launcher.

i agree with ur wishlist. the biggest one for me is the wallpaper, makes it feel like more my of my own, but its a great launcher as far as features
One more for the wish list.
Have the ability to have the contacts preview show a group instead of all the contacts.
Been keeping up with launcher. It now allows you to remove all of the apps in the ring launcher except for the home one. No more keeping the twitter, misi and rss feeds there. It also now allows you to set your own wall paper. Still has a little lag on my stock captivate and it restarts and loses the widget I am using, but it is still fine.

[Q] Using the Stock Weather Widget with a Different Launcher

When I picked up my S6E, I really liked the stock Weather widget that's part of TouchWiz. I always find myself back using Apex Launcher and my S6E is no exception. I've installed it and set it up just the way I like it and the one disappointment I have is the stock weather widget isn't available
When accessing widgets from the app drawer it doesn't even show. Long pressing on the home screen, and selecting widgets that way shows the "weather" widget as a 4 x 2 widget but regardless of where I try to put it - even on a clean screen gives me a "not enough space to place . . . " error. It's really a 4 x 1 widget.
I know there are options like Zooper widgets that have addons with a similar look but none has access to the built in Accuweather app.
Anybody figure out how to use the stock weather widget with Apex or any other non-TouchWiz launcher?
This would be awesome! !

I've tried to get it to work on both the GS3, GS4, GS4, Note 3, etc ... and nothing works...so definitely not a new problem! I was able to tear it apart enough on the GS3 to get it to show on Apex launcher ... but it wouldn't update, show location, or work when you clicked on it.
As to this point, I haven't found a widget I like more than the stock TW one. Beautiful Widgets used to have some nice looking ones, but honestly it's been about 3 years since I've even looked at the app so I wouldn't know what they've got these days.

Here's my solution, adapted from the discussion HERE. I use Zooper Widget Pro and the S6 Zooper Widgets Theme. It's by far the most spot-on widget compared to the actual stock version. In fact, from the stock clock and weather on the lock screen, you really can't tell the difference between it and the Zooper widget version.
1. Install Zooper Widget Pro
2. Install the S6 Zooper Widgets Theme
3. Install Desktop VisualizeR
4. Create a 4 x 1, 4 x 2, etc. Zooper Widget and select the S6 Widgets Theme. The widget option that looks exactly like the stock version is the one with a "45" in the title (the angle of the shadow)
Land it on the desktop one row below where you actually want to place it.
5, Long-press the home screen and select Applications - Clock ---> do this twice
6. Open Desktop VisualizeR and create a shortcut the following way: select a transparent image (attached below) as the shortcut Image. Click Select Action - Others - Activities - Weather - Weather. Title the shortcut "Weather". Select Apex Launcher as the target launcher ---> do this twice.
7. Now, long press on the 4 shortcut icons, one at a time and choose edit. Change the clock icons to the same transparent alpha you used for the Desktop VisualizeR shortcuts and delete the shortcut names. For the weather shortcuts, just edit and delete the names.
8. You're now left with for transparent shortcuts.
9. Long press the clock widget and select Resize. Using the nodes on the widget, move the top up and then the bottom.
You're left with the Zooper Widget with transparent shortcuts overlaid that open the clock and the stock weather app. There's a few shortcuts you can do like set the default click-on action in the widget settings to open the clock which will eliminate the need to add those two shortcuts but this way gives you a little more flexibility like assigning different actions to the hour and minute location.
Only very slight annoyance is that the widget uses open weather as the provider which sometimes slightly mismatches with accuweather re: location name and temperature.
Worked very well Jeff. Love it thanks.
