[Q] WIFI connection issue help? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm really hoping someone out there can help me with what the hell is going on with my phone haha. No matter what rom/kernel combo I try (believe me I've literally tried them all) I cannot get my phone to connect to the wifi at my work. Using the stock sense rom I am able to connect no problem but anything else will attempt to connect and then stop going back to just "saved" and it refuses to try and reconnect. The wifi connection we use here is WEP consisting of 26 numbers and lowercase letters. Anyone have any idea of what is wrong? On a side note my phone will connect to my wpa2 connection at home just fine.
Thanks in advance!

Wifi Problem - Plz Help!!!

Hey...
I have tried to connect to the internet by Wi-Fi, but i can't get connection to the internet. When I try to connect to my network it says "Connecting to network", but the connection then fails. Plz help!! I have tried everything i could think of!!!
(Sorry for my bad english)
if the crypt is correctly set and the password is set correctly
I would update the firmware on the router many manufacturers fix bugs and improve compatibility
Yes this happened to me once and it turned out I hadn't set up my network properly. (I think the problem was I had two devices both trying to act as routers!)
Could it be something else?? Cuz wireless works on all the stationary and laptops in the house... Maybe something wrong with the device?
of cause it could be
but
wifi devices such as phones and my ipod touch was the only devices which suffered in my case desktops and laptops would still work
updating the firmware helped a lot but still every now and then I have to unplug the wifi router for 10sec and reconnect for them to get access
Just tried to connect to another network... It worked fine!!
So the problem must be something with the router as you say
I think i'm gonna reset the router, and then se what happens...
Thx for the help Rudegar

Wifi Problems

Well I've had my Captivate for 3 months, and up until now it's been smooth sailing. Two days ago I came home and my power was off, and when it came back on I tried connecting to my router like usual, but now it won't connect. On the "wifi settings" menu it just says "obtaining ip address from..." for a few seconds then it says "disconnected" and goes back into "scanning..." mode. Also, under the "wifi networks" section it shows my network as "Disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK". (I am using a Linksys WRT54G with WPA2 security f.y.i.)
I've tried "forgetting" the network, I've deleted the whole file that remembers your networks, I've tried connecting via WPS button, I've double checked my password, I've power cycled my router, I've reset my router back to default and re-configured it...still nothing. It connects to the wifi on campus with no problems (in 4 different buildings), so obviously there is something wrong with my router setup.
If anyone has any advice on how to resolve this problem, it would be much appreciated!
**Also, I forgot to mention I am running Cognition v2.2 Beta 6
Bump for hope
Does anything else connect to your router

Happened to me a few times. Only way I could get out of this was to restore to a previous backup, or install fresh again. By the way, I experienced this problem only on 2.2. Never happened on 2.1.

Unfortunately I don't have anything else with wireless to test.
Elaborating on the issue
I've encounter exactly the same problem described here.
Samsung Galaxy S I9000. Froyo (official version). Not rooted.
Now it is the first time it has happened, and still I have not found a solution (restarted the router, restarted the phone and made more tests).
Before the upgrade to Froyo it has never happened. After the upgrade it worked ok for several days untill now.
Several other deviced at home are well connected to the router.
Its just s stupid suggestion maybe... but have you tried to change channels with your router?
Sometimes is just a stupid channel issue....
I found out the answer to this problem. I had to connect using static addressing. It seems at some point, the captivate 2.2 roms get confused for some of us and it starts trying to assign an IP address already used.
In my case, I tried everything... rebooting phone, router, ect.
Laptop connects fine, Wii connects fine...
But, I decided to connect via static addressing... BAM connected perfectly and instantly.
Connecting to other DHCP networks seems to be hit and miss as well.
So, I'd suggest reflashing might be the overall fix. But if you're like me and cannot reflash right away, try static addressing till you can get around to it.

Not stupid at all, but unfortunately yes, I tried a couple different channels and still nothing.

Awesome! This sounds like a promising solution, thanks. Yeah I need to reflash soon anyway seeing as how Cognition is up to 2.4.x already...
Probably won't be tonight, but I will do this soon and let you know my results.
Alright, I have typed just about every keyword into google relating to setting up my router/phone to use a static IP and for some amazing reason there are ZERO results that have any information whatsoever about setting up a static ip on a phone. This is really frustrating, so if anyone would be kind enough to explain how to do this or link me somewhere that does, that would be awesome
go to your wi-fi settings and click the menu button.
it should pop with a "scan" and "advance"
click on advance and scroll down to "use static ip address"
then i guess you have to put in your network details, not sure on the details there cause i have done it but experiencing same problem with my galaxy s
power went out and now can't connect to my network
Edit : Possible fix
I just managed to connect to my network.
I put the device in flight mode and restarted my modem at the same time
put it out flight mode and pluged in the modem again and now works.
Hopefully that works for you to guys.
Yea, works perfectly. I have my laptop connected to it right now. I usually have to reset the phone to get wifi again.
edit: I set it to static ip, but then i got the same problem. Except now google search engine works No webpage opens, youtube app didnt work either.. only the search engine worked.
Well my phone must be in a good mood today because it just decided to start working again all on its own! I don't know what caused it...I have actually had both my phone and computer constantly on since this started happening. So for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it doesn't mess up again.
This is probably just for me, but this isn't a viable solution.
The ONLY router I seem to have this issue with is the one that Verizon gives all it's FiOs customers. It's the Actiontec M1424WR Router/Modem. I know my WEP key is correct because it works just fine on all the laptops and other phones (a Palm Pre and another Captivate on 2.1). It tries to obtain an IP address for about 5 minutes and then just sits and says disabled. Does anyone know if there's a way to dump the DNS cache or whatever like you can on Windows?
Add me to the list of ones having this problem...guess I'll try to reflash everything in a bit to see if that fixes the problem.
Just an update I backed up everything using Tibu and then just restored it and my WiFi problem went away.
Mine is stock and just started having this problem....will connect to other wireless routers except mine, really pissing me off!
I've tried many times having the the phone "forget" me, then put in my password(which is correct)...same thing over and over.
Same problem here
I have a galaxy s and the recent update to froyo brought me the same problem already described here.
And the "funny" thing is that my router doesn't have an Static IP option, it's a simpler router from the cable provider.
So i'm trying also to find a solution to this. Two days ago i changed the wifi channel and it worked. But today i have again the same problem and changing the channel don't work anymore.
Each time i find a possible solution, it only works one time.
This is really annoying me. This must be a froyo bug, 2.1 never gave me this problem

It must be a froyo beta bug. Remember we don't have a final version of this firmware for the Galaxy S family.

HELP! After hard reset wifi can detect cannot connect

Hey guys, I was able to use wifi well, and then i did a hard reset yesterday, which causes my HD7 able to detect multiple networks but cannot connect into either of them. Tried my own router, cannot connect. Then I hard reset again but still cannot get into any of it. Anyone has any idea? Since it is able to detect connections, I believe it shouldn't be the driver's problem? Correct me if i am wrong and PLEASE HELP ME!!!
For god sake anyone?
Did you try connect with your password on you home network?
also try rebooting both your phone and modem router.. sometimes rebooting the router helps as well

Help: WIFI not connecting at all: solved

Specifically, my D-Link Wireless N 150 Router
I was able to get by the opening screen by connecting with my neighbor's open wifi.
With my own, I input the correct password, and it showed "Connecting" for 3 seconds, then just ignores it and says "Saved"
This is frustrating, as my laptop and HTC Desire S works perfectly fine. What can I do? I even reset the router to have no password, and it still doesn't work. It stops trying to connect and just says "Saved"
sigh.. nothing I try works.
So now my laptop is connected to my WIFI
my phone is connect to internet via USB to my laptop
and my Nexus 7 is connected to the hotspot created by my phone -_____-
The only WIFI it won't connect to is my own. This is ridiculous
What security settings are you using, encoding on your access point.
I tested a lot of access points at the house and have not had issues with any of them.

Also, have you just simply rebooted your router. Since it connects to others without issue.
Even though your laptop connects, it already had that connection. And the router may not want to give out another address via dhcp.. Just try unplugging router, and plugging it back in and then reconnect. Stupid as it sounds.

I had a similar issue, mine would tether to my phone but not connect to my home wifi. It would show as "connecting" then would say "saved". I hit the reset button on my router and it connected with no problem after that, might want to give that a shot and see if it works. The rest button on my router was on the back and needed a paperclip to push it.
Try WPS if you have it.
Ok, disregard this thread, I'm a fool :silly:
Even after disabling the password I still couldn't connect. While I was showering just now, I remembered why:
2 months ago my neighbors were stealing my WIFI.. so i specifically only allowed the IP of my laptop and phone.
No wonder why it could not connect at all even without password
Sorry for the new thread guys. Just got my Nexus 7 for a few hours, and it's perfect. The left side of the screen is raised a little, but I can ignore it just fine. The screen has no dead pixels and I'm happy with it.
Thanks all!
Good to know it was something simple. Might want to change the OP subject to Solved.

HTC one mini 2 wifi problem

Hi i am having a strange problem with my phone connecting to my WiFi at home on my phone. I find it will not stay connected to my router. I put the WPA2 code in and my phone says connected then it forgets the network and asks me for the code again. My phone connects to WiFi at work so i thought it was my router but my computer and Xbox work fine still on-line. It just seem to be a problem between my phone and router. I have tried lots of things from hard resetting my phone to changing the security on my router and resetting it I am now at the point where i am at a loss and have no idea how to resolve my problem. I have updated the software on my phone but still no joy Does anyone out there have the same problem or able to advise
Thanks
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant for you, so I will have your thread moved to your device section. ?

I'm not sure but I read somewhere this is a bug in the htc software. You can fix it by having a wpa code shorter the 6 characters I believe. Or maybe try changing to other wifi security protocol

If your phone connects at work with no problems, than its not the phone. The problem will be between the connection to your router. If changing protocol dint work, you can try open network (No pass, just for testing) if connects then its the security.
You can also check in wi-fi advance settings "wi-fi frequency band" its set to auto.
