Why I lOVE 4.3. - Nexus 4 General

4.3 = Preview of Future Polish.
To me, 4.3 is a sneak peak into the Polish that is to come. Little additions like Emoji Keyboard and Individual App Permission Controls (with the help of Permission Manager) come all STOCK on Android 4.3. I currently am using the hybrid.33 Radio and can notice a slight increase in battery life. The whole ROM seems a bit smoother overall, but if this is any look into the future for what Android has in store as far as Polish, I'm all in!

I like that you capitalized Polish. It made your post much more entertaining, thinking of people from Poland.

Much better battery, T9 dialer, song titles on Bluetooth device.
Still haven't fixed car mode though

As for the permission settings, it's a hidden feature that can be easily and conveniently accessed with this free app.
I personally love 4.3 for it's increased battery life. I get more SOT than I have ever got on 4.2.2 with custom ROM and kernel!

I love the battery life. This is the first time ever that my phone lasted 24 hrs even with light usage and i had WiFi on almost all the time. It seems to be sleeping very well with WiFi and am still not missing any notifications!

Android 4.2

Hey man I am getting confused about 4.2 cuz first I hear it is going to be key lime pie and now I just read over at DROID LIFE about the SAMSUNG NEXUS 10 with picture's of the device running 4.2 saying that it's a modified version of jellybean what gives. It's nice looking though
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So far their saying 4.2 is still JB....but who knows for sure yet. I just anxious to get it, no matter what's its called!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
What gives is Jelly Bean just came out. ICS is still JUST rolling out to handsets. Do you think Google would tick off OEMs by calling a minor software revision Key Lime Pie (thus putting most manufacturers 2 updates behind)?
Or maybe it will be Key Lime Pie. Think maybe we should wait until the event and find out?

Yes they are probably right. As jelly bean is a modified version of ice cream sndwich. Just performance enhancements etc but no drastic changes to the ui.

Yeah that's pretty much what I see as well the article says that some of the enhancements will be done to the camera and short cuts to your settings and of course gmail also wifi but mostly it looks the same but here is to hoping

Maybe they should call it a brand new version "Key Lime Pie", maybe some of these manufacturer's should speed up their processes and get the updates out quicker. Although, half the issue is the carriers need to agree as well. We all see how fast the dev community can do it and these manufacturer's have WAY more resources and direct contact to Google.

From time to time you might feel like that. But it does not mean that you can't tamper with a phone, especially a nexus one.
Yes if I would buy an s4 the only thing that I would is root it just for the sake of TB.
But with the nexus you can do anything and is super easy to return to where you were.
And no counter or avoiding warranty by unlocking the bootloader you just need 3 words to lock or unlock it and of course a backup
I don't say you have to become a crack flasher but trying mods and roms will make you have a better perspective and even convince you that stock is better.
Anyway, everything is up to you.
You can always leave it at stock and wait for that much desired OTA.
Cheers mate

I only flash custom ROM's and Kernels for performance, not so much additional features or looks.
No, I don't feel like this because I own a nexus device.
Kinda off topic question: what does everyone need titanium backup for? I always see people saying "the only reason I root is for TB", but why would you need to backup your apps if your not flashing Roms?

Agreed, Android has been closing the gap, if my current ROM/source wasn't available I'd happily rock stock.
I bought a nexus 4 because I love hacking, customizing and bricking my phone and all this stuff, I love it, no regrets, I dont want to go back to touchwiz and timescape...

I used to feel like this. Back when I had a g2x I flashed because I HAD to frequently. Every ROM would inevitably become unstable and I would find myself looking for a new ROM to flash. Annoying as hell really. My n4 is rooted stock 4.2.2 w/ franco kernel for help with battery drain. I truly yearn for the day that I don't have to do anything to a phone. Not even root. Will the nexus line eventually come pre-rooted as well as unlocked? A man can dream can't he?

I don't feel like I need to install a custom rom with this device. Tweaking it with a few mods gets me what I need. I still don't get why some refuse to mod the phone because they want to get the next ota update. Once it is released, all one has to do is flash a rooted version that should appear here within 24 hours.

I don't understand why it doesn't come pre-rooted. Just like enabling the Developer options, there should be some method needed to enable root, aside from the whole custom recovery custom root solution thing. Normal users aren't exposed directly to root, and power users who need root, can easily enable it. And... new users can root too without the need of those toolkits :good:

Not bothered about 4.3?

Is it just me or is anyone else not bothered about upgrading to 4.3 yet? The forum is littered with 4.3 questions/issues:
How do I get 4.3
Why have I not got 4.3 OTA yet
How to I get 4.3 OTA
How to I go back to stock to get 4.3
How do I flash 4.3 image
X app is now crashing on 4.3
I have no in call audio in 4.3
How do I get X on 4.3
Which kernel is best for 4.3
... the list goes on.
There's thread duplication everywhere. It's nice to see a new release but the updates seem quite minor to me, the only update I like is the better battery life. I'm quite happy to stay on 4.2.2 until a stable customisable 4.3 ROM and kernel is available.
Am I the only one in this boat?
I think the main plus of 4.3 has to be the addition of TRIM into android.
This will dramatically increase the longevity of devices.

The persistent notification thing is really annoying me, otherwise I'm enjoying it
One of those things, people don't seem to understand that:
- They ought to just be patient and wait for the OTA if they are running stock. It will come.
- With every new release Android there is period of merging, bug fixing, and, of course waiting. Devs overcome the last issue by releasing half-completed ROMs and gradually add more features back in to it with more releases. Often means that you are upgrading in order to have fewer features.
Personally just going to wait until franco.Kernel has all features merged, PA is all complete, and everything is working properly in official releases (eg. the changes for root access). Less hassle, wipe, reinstall, restore, and go back to a phone that was functioning in the same way as it was before.
Touch driver updates are my huge notice. Screen seems much more responsive to me...... That's it though

The improvement in battery life on 4.3 is pretty good. I used to be at a point where it wasn't a whole lot better than my galaxy nexus (so I just used my galaxy nexus for the removable battery), but now I don't mind using my N4 as my daily driver.

im thinking of switching back to cm10.1.2 and matr1x kernel. right now you gotta either stick with 4.3 stock or 4.3 custom rom and kernel but get used to the little bug here and there. i'd say not worth it for 4.3 now. yes it's a bit smoother and battery life is a bit better, but for me all the hassles are not worth it at thr moment. glad there are a lot of people stick to 4.3 custom roms and kernels so they can test those out and report bugs to the devs, but for me to use this phone as a daily driver, im thinking going back to my stable 4.2.2 setup with greater battery life because of the stable custom kernel and uv.

Had this on my S3 running Touchwiz Jelly Bean. Also when using AOSP custom rom this feature was available.
Nonetheless it is a handy feature as OP mentioned.
Heve it on my stock GNex.

Stock Android never had this feature, it was introduced with kitkat. Samsung implemented it while ago with touchwiz.

We have no idea about 4.4 yet. As you said, 4.3 is not yet been made available in all regions much less 4.4.
We know it's coming, I bet somewhere in the first quarter of 2014 and this all depends on a possible new flagship that Sony will reveal at MWC which may put the Xperia Z to the third tier behind Z1 and the new one.
And that feature sure exists on 4.4 but apps must be programmed to get use of it. I have a Nexus 7 with 4.4 and not many apps support the Immersive Experience yet.
Hope I helped!
