[Q] Update pre release firmware on Nokia Lumia 620. - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys , After a month of searching the whole internet , I was not able to find the solution to my problem , so this is my last hope.
I was gifted a Nokia Lumia 620 by a friend who used to work for Nokia( Now left and in very bad terms with the company ). The phone works like charm and has not given me any kind of trouble. Till a month back I found that I was not able to update the firmware of my phone. On checking the net , I found that the phone's firmware version was a pre-release one i.e. 1030.5603.1249.003 ( This phone was released with 1030.5603.1250.00x in my country India ). So i tried to manually update by downloading the updated firmware .To my surprise I could not find the firmware for my product code which is 059N7C6 . Instead I downloaded firmware of other product code but of same RM-846 . Tried to flash the phone using NCS but could not. I was not able to bring it to the flash mode. Tried every method out there ( Vol down & power , Vol down & power then vol up ) but could not. Actually even keeping the vol down and power button pressed for like 10 min I dont get the vibration( except when the phone is switched off and when i try it , then the phone just switches on.). But as soon as I release the buttons I get a vibration . Is this the vibration that all the methods talk about?? But even after this I get an error message during the recovery method of flashing. I have also tried the refurbish method by changing the product code. The phone goes to go the flash mode and the flash starts but again an error occurs . In both the cases the error i get is " Message not send " .so my questions are :
1. Is my phone a demo phone ? (i dont think so coz my phone works like charm and performs all the functions )
2. Is there any process to update this pre release firmware ?
3. Have i downloaded the firmware of wrong product code ? (FYI i had downloaded the firmware of product code 059R680 EURO1 GB DEVELOPER DEVICE by using NCS coz i could not find the firmware pertaining to my region )
4. Is there any other method to enable the flash mode on the phone ?
This forum is my last hope. Don't want to ditch this phone cause of no updates . Thanks in advance.

Aiplane mode 2.1 SHOLS_U2_02.31.0

I`ve got Motorola Milestone Aiplane problem. When I turn On the airplane mode, its all fine, but when i try to turn it off, the signal dont come back, and also they dont ask me for the pin code like it was on HTC.
Any Ideas ?
Software version : SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 i saw that the latest for the central europe is my version, but other DE,AT and this countries have SHOLS_U2_02.34.0 and SHOLS_U2_02.36.0 , can i install this software?
I've got the same problem with official's release but since i put the 02.36 from GOT when back from plane it asked for PIN code, no more reboot, alarm work fine (but with official too with a trick)
And how can i Install official 2.36 or 2.38 rom ? I dont want to root my phone.
On the case od my phone says that is made in germany. The germany roms are 2.36 and 2.38 version.
what about this site :
http://and-developers.com/motorola_milestone:sbf
When you put the GOT sbf you've got the choise to root or not to root.
To root the phone you have to reboot in recovery mode (Open recovery by GOT) and choose root option (and here you can choose to use their theme or not)
Today a get an update!
Software version : SHOLS_U2_02.36.0 32mb file Now the airplane works fine!

(yet another!) no signal after unlocking sga gt-s5830

Hello
From what ive seen on here and other forums this is a very common problem with no real solution!?!
Am thinking that theres no fix but thought id ask before i give up so here goes!!
I have a samsung galaxy ace gt-s5830 which was originally on o2 uk that i wanted to use on vodafone uk
I managed to root the phone and get the unlock code from the phone via the bml5.img and the XVI32 Hex Editor
I then unrooted the phone put in the new sim and entered the unlock code
The phone now says vodafone uk on the lock screen but doesnt have any signal!?!
It still has an imei and baseband number and ive checked that the imei number isnt blocked
Ive also checked that all locks are off via samsung code *#7465625#
I have flashed the firmware to UK Gingerbread 2.3.6. using odin 4.38 and a one package tar.md5 file, wiped caches and rebooted etc
but the problem still remains!?!?!
Other than the no signal problem the phone works perfect and also when i take the sim card out theres signal?!?!
One other thing When ever i reboot the phone /system/csc/o2u/system cant be found although ive read this has nothing to do with the signal problem?!?
If anyone has any ideas or needs any further info then please let me know
I am new (probably pretty obviously!) to all this so please keep replys as simple as pos!!!
Many thanks
Matt

hi matt first of all..
1. did you try another firmware?
2. you follow correctly the method to flash firmwares on odin?
seems to me that your download was corrupted, or you didn't flash properly on odin.
Its not a good thing to touch the bml5 partiton wich contains our imei ... even tough u unlocked it successfully you may have made some files corrupted wich can cause that ...
A major way to know this is ... does your previous sim aquire network?
And just to inform the error message is really not relevant ... csc function is to "inform kies" so it can do update your android version to the rom of your Country/Carrier.
Hello and thanks for both your replys
Firstly to answer matias.s
These are the instructions i followed to flash the fw
Flashing the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Firmware
1/. Enter Download mode by pressing and holding Volume down, select and power button simultaneously
2/. Connect phone to computer and open the Odin Multi Downloader v4.38 (it should show the com port it is connected on)
3/. For OPS, browse and select Cooper_v1.0
4/. For One Package, select the MD5 flash file attached and click start. (The attached firmware is for UK Gingerbread
2.3.6. You may use any firmware at this stage)
5/. Enter Diagnostic mode by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
6/. Root the Samsung Galaxy Ace using the root.zip update
7/. Download, install and Open Root Explorer (File Manager) from Android Market
8/. Add Directory csc/system/XEU/system and move files over from CSC/system
9/. Enter Diagnostic mode again by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
10/. Unroot the Samsung Galaxy Ace using the unroot.zip update
11/. Enter Diagnostic mode once again by pressing and holding select and power button simultaneously and clear caches
Odin came up with pass at the end
The only instruction i didnt follow exactly was 8
Firstly it wouldnt let me create the folder and then when i went into my directory there was already a /system/csc/XEU/system which had files
Could this be the problem?!?
And to answer snowpluralism
The sim im using works fine in other devices and as i said in the op the phone even has signal until a sim is inserted!?!
Update...
I flashed the fw again with a vodafone one package md5 via odin Odin passed the download and the phone is now branded with vodafone logo and apps
It is now on android version 2.3.5 build number gingerbread.buks but still has no signal
One strange thing when i first turned the phone on after the download it updated and downloaded vodafone apps and in the phone status said it was connected under mobile network state even though it still had no signal?!?
Thanks again for your replys and any ideas again please let me know!!
And thanks to snowpluralism for explaining about the csc error That explains why kies cant update my fw!!
When you check your imei is it correct?

[Q] Ativ-S - DP - Still on old firmware?

Hi,
Device is Ativ-S i8750 bought through Handtec. Operating on GiffGaff UK PAYG.
OS 8.10.14203.306
FW: 2424.13.10.1
CSC : XEF
I've searched around and found a little info about the problems with my camera since installing the 8.1 update through developer preview. Apparently it's fixed in firmware update 2424.14.9.3 which came out around October last year.
While my phone has picked up OS update, I don't seem to have picked up any firmware updates four months down the line.
I've have searched to find out what to do next but I am a bit stuck and unsure what to do next. So hope this community can help. Is there anything I should be doing to get this update other than just waiting?
Thanks!

rather annoyingly the only way I got it was to flash back to GDR2 and work upwards. Royal pain in the arse if im honest but I got there in the end, I believe it was disabled in some of the CSC images that were flashed because upgrading to it also disables some of the ability to unlock the device. As much as I liked the idea of it being unlocked I didn't make any real use of it so decided to bite the bullet and flash it back an upgrade, several hours later, back on DP with a working camera and a more stable Bluetooth stack!

Thanks for the reply, man. Sorry for my slow response.
I was hoping there was another way around this. Thanks anyway!
Is there a total n00bs guide to flashing an Ativ-S back to GDR2?
EDIT : I found this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391138&page=11 - but looks like the ROMs are no longer up
I have the same problem, but am still on firmware 2212.13.11.2 (and hardware 15.3.1.0, bootloader 13.08.14.16). Phone is a SGH-T899M by the way. Because of PfD my OS is 8.10.14203.306, which is recent. Disabling PfD doesn't make my phone upgrade the firmware, nor did it when my OS was a few months older.
It might be that in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...aylors-super-rom-tool-dump-sgh-t899m-t3037789) the solution can be found to downgrade but there's a bit too little step-for-step instructions for me to do it. If someone can give them to me (or a different solution to force my phone to upgrade firmware), then I'd be thankful!
EDIT: in the ATIV SE (thanks to the author) thread there's a how-to 'hidden' in the download. It goes as follows:
1. If you have not done so already, extract the .zip file that this is contained in and ensure that you are working from the unzipped folder
2. Install SamsungUSBDriver.msi and restart
1b. If you have Windows 8.1 x64 you need to disable driver signature verification first:
http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
3. Extract the file SM-W750V_VRU0ANC2_R_signed_2.zip
4. Power off device (and leave it unplugged)
5. Open the file WP8_Binary_Downloader_Ver._3.54.exe
6. Click the yellow/orange folder and Open the file SM-W750V VRU0ANC2_R_signed.wp8
7. Click the green folder and Open the file SM-W750V_VRU0ANC2_R.csc
8. Boot into Download Mode (hold Vol. Up and Home buttons while device is powering on)
9. Plug in your phone
10. If it shows up in the Channel Information section and does not report an error, you are ready
11. Last chance to consider saving your data
12. Press start
13. Wait until it has completely finished and your phone has rebooted
14. Skip through initial setup, go to Settings > about, and reset your phone once before using it
15. Enjoy stock!
I guess this should be the same for other phones, but you have to exchange the file with the file for your phone as given in the taylors-super-rom-tool-dump thread. Ofcourse, no guarantees, this is what seems logical with my limited knowledge
Hi Guys,
Just to let you know - I managed to flashed with GDR2 - file GTi8750-OXABME1_R.
It wouldn't update to 8.1 until I changed CSC from XEF to ATO, then it picked up the new firmware and 8.1. It just finished installing a few moments ago.
So I am now on :
Software: Windows Phone 8.1 Update
OS version: 8.10.14157.200
Firmware: 2424.14.9.3
I have tried checking for more updates and now I am getting error 80072f8f, which apparently it time related, even though time is correct. Same after a reboot. So not sure if I'll get any futher updates till I can work around this.
How far am I off the most current OS version for ATIV?
EDIT : Took a punt that it was the CSC that was causing the time problem. So switched CSC to BTU (which apparently is UK. British Telecom maybe?) - and it's now saying it's downloading updates!! \o/
EDIT : The phone reinstalled, did the gears. But OS version is unchanged. I do however have a newer firmware still: Firmware revision number: 2424.15.3.2

Help with Samsung Galaxy M31

Hello,
I'm really looking for help regarding my new Samsung Galaxy M31 phone i just bought.
I bought a phone which the seller claimed it is India/International version, however after I got the phone (after waiting for it for almost 3 months) I found out it is United Arab Emirates version, which sadly doesn't have Call Recording.
My question is:
1. Can I flash CSC of another country (India/International) in order to change the phone region?
2. Although I tried everything, I'm unable to get into Download Mode, even after enabling USB debugging, factory default the phone, wiping the cache, etc.
Instead of getting download mode I'm getting Android with Exclamation mark saying: No Command Installing System updates, and Than switched back to android recovery.
Please assist, Tried everything, and can't use the new phone.
Thank you.

You can try wiping every you can in recovery. If the phone boots up normally, perfect. If not try to enter download mode again and flash the original firmware
I want to replace my firmware to India so I can have Call Recording.
I got United Arab Emirates version on the phone, Although I tried e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g the phone refuse to enter into download mode, it seems like something is blocked on those version on the phone that the don't under download mode.
Any idea what can be done? please help.
thanks.
hold volume up + volume down for 10-20 secs and plug the usb cable, (that is connected to do computer of course) that shuold do the trick.
For me it did.
In samsungs firmware download pages it goes over it quite well. Look at the down right side of the page. ull see it

Need newest combination file

Hi!
It's a long story, but I need newest combination file. I couldn't find newer than u3, but I need u8, because I have s8 rom installed and bootloader won't let me install older version of course.
My current pda is a715fxxs8bvc2 ; csc - a715fprt8bva1.
And my long story is:
I've bought used a715f/ds 2 years ago. I've used it for these 2 years and now I've switched to s21+ 5g. I did a factory reset of a71 and gave it to my friend. The next day my friend tried to set up this phone and was copying her files, but got a message that phone is blocked by carrier (kg lock) "t-mobile", which is a fun thing, because phone was bought at other carrier "play". I called t-mobile, but they said that thay can't tell me nothing, because I'm not the orignial buyer. I tried contacting the person from which I bought the a71, but he didn't respond. So, I tried flashing rom and that's when I found out about the kg lock. I tried searching the internet and I tried few things. While searching the internet I found out a guide on xda forum in which someone suggests flashing pit file and then using "boot to bootloader" option, which opens fastboot and then to flash combination file from there. I have no idea how to flash combination file from fastboot and I coudn't find any guide for this, so I tried good old odin, but I get error in odin, because only combination files I could find are u1, u2 and u3 (android 10Q) and I need u8 (android 11R) or newer.
P.S. I've also contacted "play", but they haven't responded yet. (I've called to t-mobile, but I've used in-app chat function for play, because I'm their user)
P.P.S. Bootloader is unlocked. My plan is to flash newest rom after flashing combinantion file (which I hope will take down kg lock) and then do magisk and try to use some tools to fake/change imei, so my friend could use normal phone functions (call/sms).
If you have any other ideas, please let me know.
me to need that new version
