[closed] Phone won't boot, flashing buttons - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone will no longer boot.
Pressing the power button does nothing.
When I hold down the power button for a period of time (seemingly infinite) and the home and back buttons blink. The screen itself does nothing.
When I hold the power button + up / down buttons (I've tried various combinations) then again, the home and back buttons blink and the screen itself does nothing.
Of course...I'm naturally concerned that the phone is bricked / dead.
I've done some googling and a little reading around and I think I can resolve the issue by botting into fast boot and using hasson2000's all in one toolkit.
....is it likely the phone can be put into 'fast boot' (I think this is what power + volume down does)?
I do I need to wipe "everything" including the custom recovery?
Thanks for your help.

It has something to do with the proximity sensor I don't know why it works but I have seen many members that used it and it worked every time haha

Sadly...It's not worked

Yep he's right. To prevent soft reboots in your pocket, htc made it so that you need a light in the sensor. Try holding the power button under a light, and be patient. If it doesn't work after 5 sec, keep waiting until it does. I have had to wait for 30sec-1m once, but it worked eventually
EDIT: you could also try if ADB works, in that case you'd just have to use adb reboot.

It worked!
Thanks guys

Are you trying to disable the proximity sensor? If so follow the link below. It is done on an M8 but pretty much the same for an M7.

Screen Frozen

Any idea how to fix a frozen screen?? I was moving an app from one screen to the next and it froze on that part. Now the device seems unresponsive. Holding power buttons or volume rockers does nothing.
Anyway to fix this?? Or should I just wait for the battery to die.
Thanks guys/girls

Usually Power + Vol Down or Power + Vol Up or Power + Vol Down + Vol Up
Try each of those and hold them for at least 10 seconds...should reboot.
Just hold power

Usually holding the power button for 10 seconds has the same effect as "pulling the battery" if needed.

Same thing has happened to me, twice-first when I first was going through the set up, no response until multiple reboots, was able to set up device. Again today on fully set up N7, unless i rubbed the screen repeatedly then it would change desktops and "refreeze", until multiple reboots via holding power button down, then the device finally worked ok-hopefully a driver issue.

[Q] Is it bricked? I think so.

I'm stuck at the splash screen. I can't get it to reboot, holding down the power button does nothing. I can't get into recovery. It won't show up in adb to push anything, or fastboot. What do I do?
are you holding down the power down for a good amount of time, sometimes it can take up to 30-45 seconds to hard reset.

A RUU might fix the problem. But I can't find a Developer version RUU so there is no way to test.

Hold down power until the phone turns off the bottom capacitive buttons will start blinking keep holding it until you have a black screen. Then press power button and volume down keep holding both until you are in HBOOT from there go to recovery and then wipe the cache or install a new ROM

So you are saying that it's stuck at the white HTC screen and when you hold the power button down (it makes a little click and your are not letting up at all) the capacitive light don't start blinking takes about 5 seconds?
and the phone has been on for over 2 hours in this state? If it's plugged in unplug it before you hold down power.

They start blinking, but nothing happens. I just timed it, held the power button for two and a half minutes. And yeah I haven't had it plugged in except to try to connect to it with adb, which was unsuccessful. I'm waiting for it to die.

Only thing I can think of is if your power button is a bit recessed so when you try to hold it down it is getting released for a hair of a second the capacitive buttons should blink around 15 times and then the phone will restart. The screen is not flashing black or blank for an instant? Try having someone with long nails hold the power button for you if it's recessed or flush with the casing. Also try holding the power button and volume down so if the phone is restarting without your knowledge it would take you to bootloader

It's not the power button, it was working just fine and I was able to restart my phone just fine before this happened. It's something software side. I've tried to get back to bootloader as well. Doesn't work. The capacitive buttons blink an infinite number of times.

OK you are right! Just had to go through everything I could think of. Let it die. Once it does plug it into a wall not computer and let it charge for a hour. Make sure when you go to turn it on to hold volume down and it should take you to the bootloader. Or you could take it back.

Yeah, I'll just warranty it out if that doesn't work. Just frustrating. This is why I hate not having a removable battery. I don't get why the power button won't just hardware cut power from the battery like normally. Could just be my phone is actually frozen frozen.

Sprint HTC One won't turn on, flashing Home and Back buttons.

I was coming from Cyanogenmod nightlies, and was trying to flash stock, but the phone just randomly shut off and it won't turn back on. When I hold down the power button the only response I get is the home and back buttons will blink white for the duration of me pressing down the button. Thank you for any possible help.

Can you get into the boot loader?
Keep holding down power button. Button lights will blink for about 12 secs, then let go of power and hold down vol down until bootloader pops up.
via ONE.
CM10 won't load. home and back buttons lit constantly

Hi. This just happened to me as well, trying to flash CM 10.1.3 to get a GPS lock from a sense rom. Problem is, I can't get to the bootloader and the menu/back lights don't stop flashing. So there's no point where they stop flashing and I can then use the volume button to get to the bootloader. And they stay lit even when I am not pressing anything. I could use some help here.. hate to think I've bricked this very expensive slab of metal. Thanks.
Same problem.
Somebody please help.
EDIT:
Solved. Bright light trick.
Shine a bright light on it and press + hold power and vol down. Make sure the twin sensors aren't covered.
Thanks guletz - you just saved me a call (or a visit) to the Sprint store.

This is also happening to most of the sprint 4.3 custom roms. Not sure if everyone is building on top of the same rom image or fimrware issues...let me know if anyone is getting the same issues after flashing any of the sprint custom roms.

Hi,
Hold down your Power and both Volume buttons until the lights stop flashing and it turns off, try this under a bright light if it fails to work.
If neither works, plug into your PC and use
Code:
adb reboot
I try, but same. volume up+power, both+power...
I cant connect with USB

Try keep the power button pressed for at least 30 sec. Or volume DOWN+ POWER the same time
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
dont plug your phone in. put it under a bright light and hold power+volume down. make sure your finger isnt covering the light sensor
it Can't boot....Hold power button and volume down, it not booting..
I try with HTC One toolkit to reboot, but i have message: ERROR: DEVICE NOT FOUND.
What is p?
This a trick that has worked for me every time, with the Aroma freeze.
First hold down volume button, right after hold down the power button.
The Home and Back button will flash, count it to 12 times let go of power button and push it back in, while constantly holding the volume button down.
This should get you back to hboot. Hope this works for you, has always for me
thnks Xstop, but same, at me not working,,,
Will reboot if battery die?
just keep trying it and make sure your fingers are not covering the light sensor
There is only one solution that I read here which worked for me.
Hold the device under direct light (like from a strong bulb or something) and keep holding the power button, and the device will turn off. Afterwards, hold the power button as well as the Volume Down button and it will boot into bootloader.
I am not sure why that works, but it does. The sensors need to be receiving the light directly, I guess?

[Q] Unable to Hard reboot

Hi,
I tried installing carbon rom to my rooted htc one. I am stuck at boot logo and unable to hard reboot also. Using vol+ and power button flashes the home and back button, but does nothing. So, I am unable to go to recovery also. Please help :crying:
try just holding down the power button.. It might take awhile but it sometimes happens to me, and doing that shuts it down.. Around 10 seconds or more

It's not strange, its a feature to prevent you from accidentally rebooting while your phone is in your pocket or a bag, for example if something ends up pressed against the power button.
