How about this Xperia i1 Honami
http://www.concept-phones.com/sony-ericsson/sony-i1-honami-rendered-ben-ling/

4.6 Inch's display on the Nexus 5?
That is smaller and plus if it is the Nexus 5 then it will be 5.x inch's.

its not that eye catching compared to nexus 4. i thought a concept design was supposed to be out of this world kind of stuff..

Sad part is all these features remains a concept

Why does everyone think the Nexus 5 *has* to have a 5 inch screen in order to have the 5. Yeah the Nexus 7, and 10 have corresponding screen sizing. But the
Nexus One didn't have a 1 inch screen.
Nexus S didn't have a S screen
Galaxy Nexus didn't ha e a Galaxy for a screen.
The Nexus 5 will be the fifth Nexus phone. So it would make sense to label it as a 5.
Sorry for the flame .

once upon a time, before Google realize the importance of nexus line, a guy from google said, "hey, lets make a standard phone for manufacturer to know what hardware can run our new OS..?". So born the nexus one.
However it is not until Galaxy Nexus that Google realize, "Wow,this phone is quite popular with end user, not just some devs with android coding knowledge."
Then they start giving more thought into the name.
So thats why the new Nexus 7 is not called Nexus 8.

You checked it if it has 5 inches. And Google is a staunch believer that 1080p is not needed for phone as it hardly makes a difference. Look at the moto x even that is not a fHD. And if it is a fHD device the price will not be that of a nexus then. So stop saying that it shall have 5inches or greater as that is not a phone but a phablet.

Ehm..Design looks boring, a bit too small screen (but fortunately it's just a concept)

I dunno, I kinda like the idea of a Sony Nexus. They have a great track record of supporting and giving back to AOSP. They have great hardware as well. The Honami(codename) that the Nexus would supposedly be based off of is a beast of a phone on paper.

I personally would love to see a Sony nexus device. Sony is really on top of its game right now and would do an excellent job.

The latest Sony models are very good with the exception of their displays. This is a very big exception.

I bought one for my wife and the display looks fantastic. We use it to view pictures, play movies, games and read books and I'm impressed with the build quality of it and haven't had any of the issues some people have reported. For $200, no regrets.
I guess mine is defective. They failed to mess up the factory calibration and mine looks great.

The price tag doesn't really have anything to do with the issue. And they compared it with a Galaxy Tab 7.0. The display really should look better than it does. I agree, seems like they messed up the calibration.
Here is my Nexus 7 (on the left) compared to my Nook Color (on the right). White saturation shouldn't be that bad.

I don't know what the ipad2 has, I don't care for apple so I don't do my homework on their ****. I do know the ipad2 has the best screen though so comparing a budget tab screen to the ipad2 screen is pretty stupid.
Regardless, my n7 screen is more and adequate for my daily use, and and I think it looks great.

All the people being defensive need to understand what this review is saying before leaping to the rescue. If the Nexus is good enough for you, that's fine. Your views on display quality are entirely subjective based on the best display you've had the fortune to use for any extended period of time. But what you are looking at is not just "what you get for $200", but a much better display hobbled by a stupid manufacturer error. Try and look beyond your post-purchase rationalization and maybe people can start caring enough to push an official response/solution to this.
Perhaps there are gradeA displays out there...not mine.
I think folks are either in denial....or rationalize it out via the $199 price.
For the resolution purported on this, my display is greatly disappointing...and I know the difference.
The calibration statement resonated immediately...I do think that's what's going on.
If dev's can mod it, great.

I think it's the denial.
I used to think Apple fanboys were bad... that is until I read the Nexus 7 forums, with many crossing the line from denial to delusional. When I write that small text rendering on the Nexus 7 is poorer than my 12" Windows laptop with 1280x800 resolution and ClearType on, I get 20 posts saying the Nexus 7 renders small text just as well as the retina Ipad or renders hundred page PDFs faster than the Ipad.
I just want a good product. $250 isn't chump change in this economy. Most of us wouldn't have bought a Chinese knockoff tablet for $250 if the reviews had said "craptastic colors, peeling screens, lose adhesive, insensitive touch screens." Think about that. So let's all be honest with ourselves.

exactly. Ipad 2 has exact same display and mediocre dpi as the Ipad 1. which I have. nexus 7 screen is way better. plus I won't take one bad review on the screen over the other countless ones praising it. there may be a few units out there with the color calibration off. but I'm sure majority of devices look fine, like mines. not worried about the comparison at all. I have multiple tablets and my nexus 7 looks good compared to others. its display is almost as good as my prime display(which was praised very highly). nexus 7 even has higher dpi than the prime. almost as much as the ipad3. nexus 7 display is better than the iPhone 4s so called retina display. this is based on dpi and how apple classifies a display being retina quality.
I'm very content with the Nexus 7's display with everything I've done far such as browsing, ebooks, movies, gaming, streaming YouTube, etc.
But now that I read about the issue all of the sudden everything has become worse so I'm going to RMA IT six times disregarding the fact that it's software correctable.

More misinformation garbage from the fanboys.
Iphone 4s has 326dpi, or about 110 more dpi than Nexus 7.
So is this something that could be fixed with an OTA update?

Dear OP,
NOBODY CARES.
Raymond Soneira spends all day calibrating $1000+ professional IPS displays, and uses them as a basis for comparison. His opinion on color reproduction on a budget consumer device is about as helpful as Montezemolo's opinion on how well a Prius handles corners.
It's $200. Deal with it.

According to Apple...

During their announcement today stated that the Nexus 7 "a scaled up phone experience"
(approx 1:58PM - Engadget's live blog)
hmm, never once did I ever feel that with my N7.
I just thought it was an arrogant statement, and kind of pissed me off.
meh, it kinda is. Having a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7, they feel very similar.... mostly because they both use the Phone UI homescreen. FWIW I use Tablet mode on the Nexus 7 simply because it utilizes the larger screen space more efficiently and also lets my mind realize that I'm on a tablet and not my phone.
This is a skillet calling the kettle black, because iOS is EXACTLY the same on iPhones and iPads alike.
This is the same Apple spin that they've always done. "ProductXYZ is so awesome because ProductABC sucks". There is absolutely no credit or specifics given. Hence why we have iSheep... they just simply believe everything they say.
Realistically the iPad is no different then the Nexus 7. They both use the same phone interface but yield a few tablet specific apps. This is the same spin that say their, "Apple Mini is 30% larger then the competition [of other 7" tablets]". Yea but isn't the idea of a "mini" to be "mini". I mean the difference between 7.9" and a 9.7" isn't really that great.
Yeah, The iPad launcher is terrible. That's just a scaled up phone UI.
But quite like the phablet UI on the nexus 7, its more convenient than the tablet UI on a 7in Tablet.
There is starting to be more tablet-optimized apps for android now
Lolwut? He actually said that.. he does realize that the grid size of icons on the iPhone are exactly the same as on the ipad right? And thats something THEY create?... and hes saying the N7 is just a scaled up phone UI... WTF is wrong with this guy.. -_- . Least we have the option to use tablet mode or hybrid or whatever the hell we want...
I'm pretty sure he was referring to apps. Most third party apps on the Nexus 7 are the same as their phone counterparts - just scaled up. In comparison, many of Apple's third party apps are designed differently for the iPhone and the iPad. Unfortunately, at the present moment, he's right about this.
Ipad mini has lower resolution and ppi than our nexus 7.
Tell me something. Ipad mini screen is 7.9in. They claim its over 30% larger screen than our nexus7(7in.). Does a .9 screen increase really translate to it being more than 30% screen size over us?
They do have a rear cam though. So it has us on that. Plus it has same dual core A5 that was in original ipad2. It looks nice but I still love my N7.
You have to admit in the presentation they made the Nexus display to bezel ratio look bad. Makes me kinda jealous of the thin bezel on the mini. Perhaps 4:3 AR is a better fit for small tablets? Note that they didn't mention anything about pixel density, because it doesn't help them. Only saying XGA res is the same as iPad 2 and apps don't have to be rewritten.
I only hope Google will take a hint and perhaps offer hybrid/tablet mode options on stock launcher in the future, as the nav buttons on bottom doesn't make efficient use of screen real estate.
Im suprised there isnt a nexus 7 vs ipad mini thread already. :good:
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Well the slides showing the comparison of the mini verses the nexus7 sure gave a lot better view on web pages from the mini. And it has a camera.
Considering that Android lacks proper tablet apps, it kinda is a scaled-up phone experience.
While I love my Nexus 7, I really miss iPad's app selection.

I believe Phil was talking about how the apps were scaled up phone apps
Android = More customizable to make it your own, Not locked into having to use any particular software for transferring media, can have many numerous options for icon layout per device.
Apple = Less customizable, more cloning, Locked into using iTunes to transfer media, uses the exact same icon layout regardless the iDevice
I don't mind Apple Devices, but by Heck their devices are slow - this coming from when I had to use an iPhone 4 when my HTC was being repaired......and also when comparing my Boss' iPad 3 to my Nexus 7....

I find the bezel on the n7 *almost* too small as it is. I fairly frequently overlap my thumb on the touch screen and I wouldn't say my hands are particularly big!
Any smaller/narrower would be a problem personally...

Honestly I really wasn't impressed with the iPad mini, seems a bit half assed. It's just an iPad 2 with a slightly smaller screen. The resolution is weak, and a they were bragging about a 4:3 aspect ratio... Ok? Is it the 90s again? The price is great... For an apple fanboy. From my perspective its pretty overpriced for such dated hardware. And with that aspect ratio and screen size is it really even smaller enough to have the convenience factor the nexus 7 has?
Sadly, it'll outsell our tablet just because of that apple logo. But I still can't think "is this the best you got apple?". It was pretty much their ego on display.

Personally I've always wanted the Nexus tablet to have a display somewhere around 8". I've had experience on the Asus eeePC 701, 7" netbook back in 2007 and I've always thought 7" was a bit too small for my taste. Of course this was with running desktop apps. But I just had to own Nexus tablet as it was just so tempting to play with. I'll just have to see what Google has in store for us on Oct. 29.

True it will sell cause of the apple logo. Like I told my wife I could put the apple logo on a leapfrog tablet for kids and call it the ipad 4 and dummies would be clamoring all over.
Yeah I figured they'd use retina and at least try to 1up the nexus 7s screen. I'll be fair in saying a 4:3 aspect ratio works in a 9.5 inch size but 16:9 seems perfect for a smaller tab imo. It was laughable that they seriously attacked the nexus 7 for its screen that had "less display area" in portrait mode. Really? Sure it does have less display but with its higher resolution and ppi everything will be clearer in that area.
Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave over this thing. It's so blatantly a "me too" product its pathetic!

Screen is beautiful especially with Franco kernel and Cataclysm rom but like i said my eyes have to adjust because it hurts using the screen. Too many years of AMOLED.
At first I thought you were being ironic.
The screen is not that good, it lacks contrast and has very bad viewing angles.
If viewed from an angle you'll see the white from retroillumination, the more the angle, the more the white and the loss of contrast.
You should put this side by side with a G2. That is a beautiful screen.
By the way, if you look closely under direct sunlight you'll see a pattern of thin lines, I suppose it's the digitizer. Does anyone know why it is visible in this phone while it isn't on others

1080×1920 (445 ppi)
I don't understand how there could be any difference in what are (apart from the diagonal size) exactly the same screens. :S

Just because they have the same resolution and underlying technology (IPS LCD) doesn't mean that they're the same panel.

You ppl are over exaggerating the screen looks good but it is poorly calibrated. I cant wait for Paranoid Android to drop their rom with their display enhancements like they did with the nexus 4

No over exaggeration here. And you're wrong. It's very accurately color calibrated. So much so that there are a couple reviews on it reiterating this and the fact it is the most accurately color calibrated screens they've ever reviewed . If you are talking about contrast, that's another can of worms.....

Oh I had those on my N4, The lines can appear on some phones more than on others of the same model. Can be kinda annoying, I agree.

Mhm, hope you get your replacement soon!
Lines or dots, all screens show it in sunlight and it is the digitizer. The screens are designed to be looked at straight on or to perform best for 99% of the time. If you want a screen that has over 450 cdm brightness, 4000:1 contrast ratio with .1 cdm black level, 180 degree viewing angles and any sort of energy consumption efficiency then you are welcome to pay $500+ just for the panel. Stop complaining!

yikes, Might want to keep my N5 in this case. Hopefully its pre-release related.
Granted battery life should get better with cycles and that this is a pre production model I would take this with a slight grain of salt. I don't expect battery life to be much better than the S4, its most likely similar.

Thats impressive especially at max brightness. The S4 acheived 10 hours of video playback with 50% screen brightness so this is a pretty good improvement although im more interested in web browsing time on the S5.

That is looking quite promising after the S5 exceeded the video playback estimate they stated in the event.
If the S5 manages to get 10 hours of LTE web browsing, that would be exceptional and I don't think any other smartphone would even come close to that.
I can't wait for more reviews and tests to come out.

So they list the "bad" as, Stability issues, Plasticy design, Some gimmicky features. WTF is it with people today. First of all its a pre-production unit, not a final product so to claim it has stability issues is bull, wait for the final product or don't write a review. Second learn how to spell since "Plasticy" isn't a word, but "Plastic" is. So you hate plastic, well Apple used it for years and did so again so STFU. Finally the gimmicky features, to the reviewer they are to others they are not so its subjective at best and you don't have to use them.
At least with Android you can choose the default apps and are NOT forced to use the native apps if you don't want to, unlike iOS.

I would take that in a positive light instead of the negative that you are viewing it as. In today's society, if a reviewer were to state a device has no downsides or cons, everyone would label them as a "fanboy" and would disregard there opinion from then onwards.
So what do reviewers do when a device has no downsides, hypothetically speaking for the S5, of course, the reviewer takes a few balloon statements such as "stability issues" & "gimmicky features" and writes that as the cons.
Considering the cons listed are very vague and can be interpreted hundreds of different ways, the reader can't really challenge the reviewer on these statements.

GS5 vs GS4:
There are also other in-depth videos on his channel which cover the settings, homescreens and such.
Thanks for the video. The more I see these vids, the more I think I should hold off and wait for the G3,Note 4 or iphone 6. The S5 is solid but I can pick up an S4 for half the price and enjoy the same features....decisions decisions.....

The GS5 is stellar but - nothing compares to the Note series. NOTHING. Amazing series of phones. Why did you part ways with the note 3 so quick?
If the GS5 camera isn't a huge leap over the Note 3 then I'll go for the Note 3, eyes closed.

iphone 6 camera vs S5

Was just at a store and saw iphone 6 camera and i was amazed on how amazing it was so my question is how is iphone 6 8mp camera better than 16mp S5? None of android phones have come close to iPhone 6 camera. Why is that? Not that i like apple products.

Did you compare both?
Or where did you see that?
From what I've seen, the iPhone 6 camera is very good for a 8mp camera but not even close to the S5's camera.
Lots of reviewed site said that 6+ camera better color reproduction than s5 but can't compete the detail value because of 8mp
from SM-G900F / SM-N9005
Galaxy's camera seem to be slightly better.
The S5 is better from a detail perspective in outdoor shots but in low light and Indoor shots, the iPhone 6 wins due to the larger pixels Apple implemented. The S5 is still able to compete due too the image stabilization mode but that's only really beneficial with stationary scenes and subjects.
I have read that colour reproduction is typically better on the iPhone since the S5 usually produces very vibrant and contrast rich photos. It really depends on your personal preferences in the end.
Both phones will take great photos but I would consider the iPhone to be more "idiot" proof. It's relatively hard to mess up your shot when shooting with an iPhone. The S5 on the other hand can produce a vast range of images depending on the settings you change.

Idiots still using megapixels to judge camera quality. 8 vs. 16 doesn't mean **** on these small screens. Even in an 8x10 print you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

As an hardcore Android advocate, it's a bit hard to edmitt: but the IPhone 6 camera rocks!!! I just played with it for an hour and I'm really impressed! Man, can that camera take nice pictures - lighting fast! The auto focus is the fasted I have ever tested. I compared it to my S5 side by side, and the S5 has no chance in this case! Jesus!

It's true but that's only really applicable in daylight situations. The S5's extra detail turns into a noise filled mess in low light situations where as the iPhone 6 with its lower resolution camera retains more usable detail albeit with some noise but that's too be expected with such a small sensor.
