[Q] IR Remote Programming Help - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I am using Smart IR Remote and can't get it (or any other app) to learn the color codes for an LED strip I bought from eBay. It's a generic strip that comes with a remote and a receiver. I was able to get the app to learn the "on" and "off" commands after a few tries, but the colors just won't program in. I believe that the problem is that the codes are too long for the receiver to read.
The developer of Smart IR Remote backs this up , "If the colors aren't working, that's probably because their IR codes are somehow incompatible with the phone's IR Blaster / Learner. That can either be caused by a frequency that can't be handled by the phone, or a command length that's too long for the phone's blaster. It's something we've seen happen with other LED strips as well." They let me know that they are currently looking into this.
I need to get the commands in Pronto HEX format to use with the app, but have no idea how to do this without using the IR receiver.
Is anyone able to make any suggestions about how to get the codes (without purchasing hardware) or another app that may work temporarily? I have also tried ONEtrtaV2 from XDA which wouldn't learn any of the commands.
I have used Smart IR Remote to record another remote that worked fine.
I am using a Google Edition HTC One running Android 4.3.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Could you please let me know if you figured it out? I have the exact same problem. I fixed on/off and ONE of the color buttons, but I can't figure out the rest. I've emailed the supplier to get the hex codes, so we'll see. Please get back to me

Okay so I downloaded the app and all is well. The controller seems synced (it is in position 1, though not listed in bluetooth menu. I enable input on nesoid, but nothing happens... am I missing something stupid?

At some point I will make this more clear in the description, but to use the controller with the Droid x2, 3 and Bionic, you must enable 'Bypass IME' in preferences. As a bonus, this will also allow you to use a normal soft keyboard at the same time as the controller, as you will no longer need to switch the active IME.
bought this app last night after my post. got it up an running this morning. i'm a megaman junkie. took a little messing with to figure this out, but you just made my lunch breaks a fantastic part of my day. ))) !!!!

I think it's clear enough in the description, I suspect the op "downloaded" the v0.1 apk that's floating around the net.
Earl, I have a question about syncing. Once I sync the controller with the phone using the PC app, will I need to go through the process each time I use the controller on the PS3 afterwards, or is it like a bluetooth headset that I can switch back and forth between the PS3 and the phone based on which one has bluetooth on for pairing when I turn the controller on?
Is there a certain way I have to map the buttons? I have the IME option checked and my dpad seems to be working, but none of my other buttons like start, A, B work and Im assuming their mapped wrong but they are set to BUTTON START, BUTTON A etc dont know what Im doing wrong here
** Nevermind I figured it out. They have to be set to the hardware key mappings in the emulator its working good now
That IME thing got it working thanks guys!

The controller can only store a single master address, and will only ever talk to that master, so unfortunately you will need to use the PC tool to change the address back to the phone before use. In theory it should be possible to change your phones bluetooth address to match your PS3 using bdaddr or some other method, but I haven't done any research into that.

[Q] IR blaster - panasonic tv

hi there,
i bought the s4 active i9295 about a week ago. want to use the IR blaster with my panasonic tv the samsung watchon app works partially, when the tv is on i can switch channels, volume, turn off, but 'turn on' does not work. on my tv remote i must keep the button pressed long for it tv to turn on, that can't be set in the watchon app. so looked for alternatives, tried pretty much all the free apps anyone else same problem? or any ideas?
this is pretty much same problem i have, so looking for an IR blaster app now that will send the IR signal for several seconds continuously to be able to turn on the tv
http forums.logitech.com/t5/Harmony-Remotes-Programming/Panasonic-TV-Long-Press-for-ON-Short-Press-for-OFF/td-p/38078/page/2
Report this to makers of Watch on. It's Peel I think. You can sort of do it also via in-app report.
Try turning TV on by channel-up/down button or by directly pressing channel number. It does work on few TVs with "press On for x seconds" behavior.
Also Smart Remote for S4 by Color Tiger Apps seemed good. It supported many other types of devices (AC, ...) but it's no longer available on Google Play. But it was rather pricey and didn't support all my odd devices so I went with a refund.

have found the solution: https play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=remote.control.samsung
Samsung Galaxy with IR blaster see also http www power7.net you can specify the codes yourself with this app you just need the IR codes in some format for panasonic TVs this hex code list works ftp ftp.panasonic.com/pub/panasonic/Drivers/Monitors/Discrete-remote-control-codesProntoCCFformat.pdf
and using this tool http openremote.org/display/docs/OpenRemote+2.0+How+To+-+Integrating+GlobalCache you can calculate the corresponding IR codes and it works also with long button press
sorry to say that the app looks design wise very basic but function wise it is awesome

Ready and working ON-code would be very much appreciated.
Me too!

So, like spicemint said, this is detailed version by me:
Download PDF from here:
locosp.dyndns.org/download/Discrete-remote-control-codesProntoCCFformat.pdf
Download iConvert from here:
globalcache.com/downloads
Copy/Paste PowerON/OFF HEX code from PDF to notepad and remove "enters" on end of lines.
Put that in iConvert, and to use that code you need to edit it a little, removing text etc.
I dont feel like going in too much detail but I figured out you need to repeat code 4 times for that to work, so final code that works on my Panasonic TV plasma is like this:
37000,1,1,128,63,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,48,16,2712,128,63,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,48,16,2712,128,63,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,48,16,2712,128,63,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,16,16,16,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,48,16,16,16,48,16,2712
Usin that code in Android application "Samsng IR - Universal remote"
go to settings, choose "My Remote Control 1(TV)", scrool down a bit where it says "Insert IR code string for Power command" and paste that code I gave you".
Then scrool all the way down, press "Save the IR codes" and when you scrool up and hit "Power on/Off" your TV should power on.
Took me almost 2 hours to figure out how this codes work but at least it working now.
I had problems with my Motorola box, could not change channel (turning it off/on and volume worked fine).
My solution: I got the updated WatchOn from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669584
It is from the S5 but works significantly better than the one we have. No hacking/code recalculating necessary, just download the .apk, load it to the phone and open/run the file. It may look a little uglier, but at the improved usability I'm not complaining.
Just an alternative solution in case someone is looking for one.

[Q] [WP8.1] share gps location over bluetooth

is it going to be possible? anybody know?
Do you mean continuously (as in, use the phone as a Bluetooth GPS speaking a protocol like NMEA)? I don't believe it's built in, but you could probably write an app to do it (the BT interface is, I think, available to app developers). There might even already be such an app.
Do you mean one-time (like the way you can send your location in an SMS, but via Bluetooth instead)? Nothing I know of comes to mind, so you'd probably need an app for that too. That one seems less useful, though; most devices that have BT either already have their own GPS (or otherwise know approximately where they are anyhow) or are trying to track their own motion and would want continuous updates.

continuously, sharing GPS location with another device over Bluetooth. I wish I could write an app like that but I can't program
thanks for the answer gd2d, I hope its possible. I also hope that the ability/app is not limited to having to be active and not running in the background (ie get a text, respond to it and lose your location)
p.s. No app "currently" exists,,,,, at least from what I've searched in the store
BTW, WP8.1 isn't out yet, or even in public pre-release. We know some of the features that will be added, but not all of them. To the best of my knowledge, this isn't on the known list. Anyhow, WP8.1 won't release for probably another few months, even in preview form (though I could be mistaken).

[Q] Does anyone know of a gamepad/remote app?

Hi,
Been googleing for a while on this one, not found anything yet.
I'm looking for an app that can emulate a gamepad for my phone.
If all it does is emulate a single screen tap that would be fine.
The thinking is that I have a plastic Google Cardboard rig that doesn't have the magnet button thing. The idea being that the watch could replace this functionality.
If it could act as an analog stick/dpad that would be a huge bonus.
If nobody knows of an app for this, any input to deving one would be helpful. I don't currently have a Tizen dev suite set up but could get one going this weekend.
I've done some remote control stuff in java before but never on android. If anyone has experience in this your help would be appreciated.
I don't want to replicate something if it already exists.

module to interact directly with smart lights from phone?

I have been considering getting smart lights for my living room. I don't have overhead lights with a switch on the wall. I have 4 lamps. I don't want another remodeling and wiring project, but I don't like walking around turning the separate lights on and off all the time either. It'd be awesome to be able to just say "ok Google, turn on the living room lights" and have everything come on.
I did some research and all the lights I've seen require this command and interaction to come from a Google home. You can't do this directly from a phone. I have the pixel 2 XL and am rooted btw. I confirmed this with google tech support. I find this strange and can't believe there isn't a work around via some app or magisk module. So, that's basically the point of this thread. Is there an app or module some where that can do this, if not, can one of you genius developers make it?!?

Is this possible? No one wants to have smart devices they can trigger from their phone's Google assistant without a Google home device sitting around? I found this article in my continued search efforts: https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...l-multi-room-support-no-google-home-required/
What happened to these options and menus? I have a pixel 2xl and these menus and options are not in the settings. This is exactly what I want.
I thought there were a few smart devices out there that didn't require a hub and only needed an app on your phone. My hope was to pick one of these up and her it working directly with the Google assistant through autovoice. I'd actually be having autovoice press buttons and trigger stuff in the smart device's app. Is anyone doing this? There has to be someone here.

What you want probably can be achieved with Tasker and Autovoice, a magisk module can do very little on this situation, since there is no file you can replace on /system to get what you want.
You might be able to get more help on their respective fóruns and support sites, but it may vary from what smart device and app combination you are trying to automate.

You almost got the answer yourself, you just missed a couple of letters ?
IFTTT (if this, then that) can do what you're looking for, I use it for the exact thing you mentioned - "OK Google, turn the bedroom light on" etc. Takes a minute to set up but it works flawlessly.

Thanks for the replies guys. IFTTT still requires interaction with the devices through a hub and/or hub unit though, doesnt it?

I don't have a hub, just smart bulbs from Amazon and my phone. IFTTT connects Google Assistant to the app the bulbs use so I just use voice control, no hub.

Search "smart bulb" on Amazon. All the ones which show a phone app will work without a hub / Google home, the app controls them so that's all you need. You can then link IFTTT to the app and set up applets to control the lights with Google Assistant on your phone.
This is what I've done, the only hardware I have are the bulbs and my phone.

Great. I think this is the piece of information and confirmation I've been looking for. I do see these items on Amazon that say they have an app and work with the Google assistant. Then I read the item description and it starts talking about interacting with the Google home unit, so I then wonder if the "google assistant" compatibility is actually Google home compatibility.
