[Q] Can't Tether USB or Wifi - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys;
Keep getting "Mobile data is not available or invalid sim" every time I try to turn on tethering. I have a AT&T S4 Active unlocked, I did not unlock it, it was unlocked when I purchased it from Negri electronics. Any solutions?
Thanks

Are you under AT&T or Sprint? They block tethering by default. You have to buy tethering dataplans or work this around.
There's probably a thread for this already where somebody described similar behavior. There is said that this process solved the problem but root was needed. There are also third-party apps for tethering. Since S4 Active is pretty much S4, try searching threads for S4 if this won't help or lead you to success.

no firsthand knowledge, but it sounds weird. you sure you have the right APN settings for data? the right type of plan on t-mobile? if it's unlocked and you have a t-mobile sim in it, it should work. i bought a used at&t model and am using it on straight talk.. granted it's the at&t side, but still i had to add an APN etc and it did that without a hitch.
also one thing i've never experienced before is the at&t wifi hotspot thing. it's connected to wifi networks out in public on its own but lately it's saying i need to confirm eligibility. that setting is in wifi to turn it off. perhaps you're connecting to wifi or something? no idea though.. just trying to brainstorm for you!

[Q] HELP! None VZW UICC Present

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help here - I'm assuming its an isolated situation since no one at Verizon (US) or M1 (Singapore) can help me with. I have a HTC One (Verizon) that works perfectly in the states. I am overseas for a few months and confirmed with VZ Global Services that the phone is pre-unlocked so any local carrier will work.
I chose M1...everything on the phone works great, calling / SMS / Internet / Data...etc. However I am given this error anytime I try and turn on the Mobile Hotspot or USB Tethering:
"None VZW UICC present
A Verizon Wireless LTE SIM card is not detected. Mobile Hotspot/Mobile broadband Connect service needs a Verizon SIM card in order to work."
note:: Hotspot works perfectly in the states....
I've spent a lot of time on with VZ Global Services and at the M1 store here. VZ was not helpful, as soon as I admitted to using a SIM that was not theirs, they stopped all support. At M1 store we tried a variety of SIM cards; prepaid, postpaid...etc. None of them fixed the problem. Only suggestion left is to call HTC. So thats why I posted this in the general HTC rather than Verizon specific.
If anyone has any idea how to go about troubleshooting this it would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I should add - the phone is stock, not Rooted, APN changed to sunsurf (which is what M1 uses).
I am having the exatct same issue right now. I am in India and I have a prepaid SIM card from Idea and when I try and use the mobile hotspot I get the same error.
When activating the Hotspot function the device does an entitlement check against Verizon's server. Without a Verizon Sim it will automatically fail and not allow hotspot usage. Only way around it is rooting and removing the entitlement check or using a custom non-verizon rom.
i belong to India, i have htc one max,and i have also facing same problem, please tell me any solution if possible

AT&T Internet Settings for T-mobile Sony Xperia Z3

Hello everyone,
I have a T-mobile Z3 that is currently unlocked to work for my AT&T provider. I am able to make calls and send regular text messages with no problems. My problem is that I am only able to access the Internet via WiFi only and not 4G or even 3G. I am usually always around WiFi but for times when I am in need to use the mobile web, I am unable to. What are the proper settings for this? I understand that the T-mobile version does not share the same LTE band as AT&T so that's ok with me but 4G or 3G is ok with me. I have tried to APN settings provided by AT&T but it does not work. I am leaving on a trip in a few days and would like to have this working before I leave. I am sure someone out there has the answers I seek. I hope that I have posted this in the correct forum. If not, please feel free to move it as it might help me to get my question answered. Thanks again for your help everyone!
After doing more further research, I found the settings that work for my phone. I was just about to sell this phone and get a Note 4. Not anymore now that I got this to work. Thanks again everyone!

How did you get this to work? Help?
The phone was only on a temporary unlock and I am unable to use it for cellular service anymore but I went to this website to get all the settings to make it work for AT&T.

Hope this helps.

Foxfi Not Working

Someone please tell me, they know a work around to get Foxfi working again. I bought the unlocked Note 8 but my carrier is Verizon. Foxfi does not work. Help??? I need free tethering.
Same for me. Unable to use it with my locked T-Mobile device
Stopped working with android 7.0. Try the sim card trick. Eject the sim, activate your hot spot. Put the SIM card back in.
You can also try a network refresher. Same idea. Hit refresh, kills your signal. Turn on hotspot.

Turn on your mobile hotspot on your notification. It should work without any workarounds.
Just realized you said the unlocked note8. To confirm this is the unlocked directly from Samsung? Hotspot works with no tethering check. I am on the old unlimited plan from several years ago.

This is good news, can anyone verify foxfi works using a Samsung unlocked note 8 on Verizon?

So if you are under the old unlimited data plan through verizon are you saying your unlocked note 8 hotspot works without foxfi just trying to make sure I understand because I got my note 8 but it is not unlocked and I am going to send it back to get a unlocked note 8 if yours is working
If your note 8 is the unlocked version. Then yes the native hotspot will work. No need for fox fi. I have tested it on att and it works just fine. People on Verizon has said the same. Beings it's not a carrier branded phone they can't put their block in the firmware that require you to have a hotspot data plan.

Great, thank you - follow up question: does wifi calling work on the unlocked version with Verizon? I think it's clear the unlocked phone may be better than the VZW version on VZW.

It works out of the box. No check on tethering.
Foxfi DOES NOT WORK on any phone running android 7 or later.

Wi-Fi calling does not work.
Video Calling does not work.
Visual Voicemail does not work.
VoLTE works.
Everything else seems to work as well.
I just received an email stating I exceeded my 15 gig hotspot limit and I am now throttled to .5 now. I am rooted on my pixel xl. So somehow they can tell now

question
I'm thinking of buying an unlocked note 8 from Samsung's website. I have Sprint.
My question is... will I be able to use this phone as a hotspot (or USB tethered) for a laptop and not be charged a tethering or hotspot fee from Sprint?
I currently have the note 4 and am using it with foxfi but must be tethered by USB.

Yes...I have unlocked version on Sprint and tried shortcut master lite to edit the APN by adding "DUN" and tried the adb method to bypass Sprint...both methods worked great and did not register on my bill...the difference is that the shortcut master method does not require toggling data on and off to get it working...it just works...both methods are better than foxfi...look in guides for apn edit enable hotspot

Since my post I have opted for the Sprint version of the Note 8 instead of the unlocked from Samsung. I used your guide to go in and add DUN but am unclear about what to add in the LTE APN setting.
I got the hotspot to turn on and can connect a computer to it however it says I have no internet access. I can connect to the hotspot just fine, just know internet.
When I go to mobile hotspot and tethering I have mobile hotspot and Bluetooth tethering available, but USB tethering is greyed out. I tried bluetooth tethering but quite honestly am lost. I can't figure out how to use it. My old Note 4 I used USB tethering and FoxFi get internet on my computer. Is there a way to get USB tethering to work?
Preferably I'd like to have the hotspot working.... but I'm curious about the other 2 also and if they were all three working then I would have options if I needed them.
I'm new to all this forgive me. As I said before I used FoxFi so an app got things going for me... This is the first time I've ever messed internally with a phone. Is there something I missed?

Once you are connected to the hotspot toggle the data off and back on to see if the internet is shared then. That may be your issue. Never tried to get usb tether because WiFi tether works on Sprint out of the gate for both methods
confirmed as well.
Unlocked Note 8
Verizon OG unlimited
worked with hotspot pull down button.

Restore wi-fi calling - carrier unlocked

Hi. I'm new (and old) so apologies in advance for any faux pas. I couldn't find another thread with a problem like this, so I'm posting a new question.
Here's what happened:
I have been using Ting MVNO SIMs on two Galaxy S8 phones for about 18 months. Preparing for an overseas trip, I asked T-Mo to unlock the phones so I could use foreign SIMs.
T-Mo unlocked the phones, but now I can't get wi-fi calling to work on the Ting SIM. Tried a MintMobile and FreedomPop and the same thing, no option in the tools or phone app to activate wi-fi calling although it is activated at the MVNO and the E911 addresses are correct.
T-Mo says it's impossible that unlocking did that. Well, it happened. Ting doesn't have a clue about how/why it happened or how to fix. Samsung says it's the carrier's problem not theirs.
I factory re-set hoping it would restore the lock, but that didn't do anything. I don't get a signal at my home, so wi-fi calling is necessary. My next step is to buy new phones.
Ideas? Thanks!
