Will Using 3rd Party Camera Apps Bypass Moto Cam Probs? - Moto X Q&A

Just wondering if the shortfalls with the Moto X camera can be subsided by using a 3rd party cam app?

Assuming it's all software issues, and not hard(firm)ware problems, then maybe. The OS can only manipulate so much of what the camera package delivers.

According to Marques Brownie he said the camera issues was related to the firmware, so an update from motorola would fix it... similar to the issue the Droid 1 had w/ its camera on launch

Well, he's just assuming. He's not an engineer at Motorola or anything and no other devices have this camera. Its usually not a good policy to hope and wait for updates in android land

This is a known issue and there is a Q&A thread where this belongs not in the dev thread. Use a 3rd part camera app.
Third Party Camera App? The reason switching to CM was not using any third party apps haha
So I hope it'll be fixed soon

Then you picked the wrong rom lol CM comes with only basic things. But you already use 3rd party apps if you flashed gapps.

Has anyone tried Google+ video handout on CM roms? The video quality is not so good, noise and blury most of the tjme. I think because of the camera driver issue not the CM camera app.
I may be wrong.

The free "focal" app in the play store has photosphere feature
in the play store, download the free app "focal" by "team BBQ." it was the camera app that was going to be in CyanogenMod. still in beta but it does do photosphere. here is the link to google play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.xplod.focal
Did you guys have any problems with any "failed to connect to camera" errors after using/install the photosphere camera?
How well does this work? I mean, the stitching improved a lot in 4.4 on my nexus 4 but I was planning on buying the moto x to replace, I really like it but I don't want to lose photosphere.

anotherdroid from previous page provides a free download of the android camera/gallery. it works flawlessly...of course it also means you have two camera apps. i normally "twist" to open the moto x camera and the android camera on homescreen.

Anyone know if this version also does the Geotagging required to submit the photo sphere to create your own street view as Google has started allowing:

?

Looks like it. I did a test photosphere with the nexus gallery camera posted on the first page and uploaded it to G+. It is viewable there and if I click the details it looks to have all of the normal geolocation tags.
I'll try to do a real test this weekend.

Hrm so oddly, the images I upload to G+ with Nexus app are not viable on G+ in chrome on my PC. The Android G+ app views them OK. I wonder what is happening there.
Working like a champ on my KK Moto X. It does drop the resolution to 5MP but the shutter lag is significantly lower with this camera - which is why I wanted it. Thanks for the APK!
works great, but one issue
the app works great on my at&t moto x, however, i cannot upload the photosphere to google maps. when i click share to maps, it takes me to the app maps, instead of uploading. anyone experienced that too? (share to g+ or g+ photos works fine)

[Q] Question for Photo Sphere Camera

I have it if you want it. No root required. Just install like a normal app. It will be the first camera in your app drawer.

Photosphere is exclusive to Google's Nexus line.

camera failed again?!?!?!

hi
I have been experiencing the camera failed issue with my s5.
I went to ATT store and got a replacement device..however, after one day use, the camera failed message came back again!!!!
any idea what i should do? call Samsung?
You can try to call samsung. Or just take it back to at&t. I did read that there was a shipment of s5 that went out and they had faulty cameras.
It is highly unlikely that the new device ends up with the same issue. Are you installing a certain camera app? I'm guessing some software related issue might be interfering with launching the app responsible for the camera.

It seems that when you switch to ART mode, it happened!
Do you guys have tried that?
Thanks.

thank you for your information
I have one question there
how long does it take to start your camera app?
1-2s? or even longer?
I used to use iphone, and its like instantly started. ....
but this s5, takes......forever, even worse than s4 :crying:
Hey. Did you manage to fix you camera after all this time?
I'm starting to have the same issue as you, "camera failed". But the front camera is working. I know that because I have a barcode reader app, that lets me switch between cameras. The main camera stays black...
So is it hardware or software?

Are you using moto camera, or another app?

I've been using the stock camera app, but have wondered if I'm missing something better.. I'm not a serious or good photographer by any means. Mainly looking for something simple, that allows save to SD that will take good pictures

I use the Moto camera app that was stock on the phone. 2 reasons, first, if I want to take great pictures I use my dslr not a phone. Second, I love the twist of the wrist to start it. Usually if I am using my phone to photograph it is because a quick something is happening or about to happen and I can twist my wrist as I bring it up to my face level and the camera app is open and ready to use. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly, I have the same feelings about moto camera. Also you can record video very quickly (no need to change mode like in other apps). Slow motion video is quite fun too. The only thing that I hate is that it doesn't have built in gallery like for example google cam which leads to delays and bugs.
I'm using HTC Camera and it works well.
Snapdragon camera, which I'm really liking.
I'm using Moto camera but the newer version (camera1) ported from Moto G which adds in a better UI and some manual controls
For pics I use the Google Camera with the HDR+ enabled, it takes great shots when there's a lot of light, Moto camera it's ok, but I rather use Google's. I'm also using Footej (haven't used it that much but so far so good!).
Since I'm rooted I have Xposed, whith the Twisty module I can enable the wrist twist to open any of the cameras I want as default.
For my use of a camera and I have tried many, I really like Open Camera from the Play Store. It offers some of the best options and features without getting all gimmicky.
Using two camera apps, Camera1 from the play store (Motorola's New Camera) for taking pictures and Open Camera for video recording
I have been using "DSLR Camera" from the store for about the last two years. Does everything I want with no fuss.

But don't think it would suit as a system app because there are way to many features
I prefer SnapDragon Camera. I believe you must have a caf kernel in order for it to work correctly.
