Purple tint in camera,do you have it? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so as I noticed, there are lot of people complaining about purple tint using the stock camera app of the One,some don't have it.
So let's see how are the percentage of both groups.
To check better the purple tint, try to take a photo of a white wall with mid to low light condition

I wonder if the purple tint is a hardware defect or just the fact that HTC used different sources of production

@vegetaleb do you have it mate? I don't have any on my March built unit
some have theorized its the heat breaking the Sensor but i use my test to do intensive gaming and GPU benchs, i also use agressive CPU governors while gaming, it's often around 60c while gaming
yet my Sensor remains flawless

Yes i have it, but only after the 4.2 update i also tried taking a pic of a white wall like you said and also got a huge pink spot on the center.

Of course not, I have the pink tint since I unboxed the phone in Paris,so no gaming back then nor hot weather,it was a late April batch, perhaps when HTC found a new source of lens after the infamous lens shortage, this lens maker has purple tint
But hey I got that thing on previous phones like SE Arc and SGS2

Perhaps it was in the FW pack

My HTC one camera produces a lot of red noise when shooting in very low light conditions... If I block camera with something black, all screen is in bright red noise (or is it purple tint? no, no, it's red ). Noise is only visible with high ISO values (>400). Is it how it suppose to be or not?

My device was made on may in 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 i have a light pink tint in the middle of the camera usually noticing it in yellow light otherwise no

Me too have the red tint but i comapred the one with other devices (galaxy s3) is same light conditions the s3 showed a blind black screen while one shows the red noise .... When i covered the camera with my hand it shows black screen

Guys, lets stick to the original thread (it even has the pool).
It is much easier to track the progress on the issue if its all in one place.

Anyone took his One to repair it at HTC for this ''bug'' and got a repaired camera?

Pink screen

Wow! The pink screen sure is annoying!
I just got my replacement phone from HTC (at&t N1) for my reception / audio issues.
The new screen looks horribly pink - noticeably so.
I think its just luck of the draw with these screens. My first phone had a slight green tint, but was pretty close to natural colors; the replacement is very red'ish tinted. My original phone had an issue with the cpu throttling not working properly any more. the replacement screen causes the grey areas to appear pink/purple'ish. (even the black areas)

This is really bad - I will probably ask for another replacement, especially since the new phone has really bad reconnection issues. QC on the nexus one is just beyond bad! This should NOT happen.
I wonder what percentage of people have this tint problem...
[POLL] do you have the red tinted screen?
If you do not know what I am talking abut, or never noticed it; turn your screen brightness down to its lowest setting and then open up the stock android keyboard. (it becomes most pronounced at brightness settings below 50%) If you have the problem, then the keys an surrounding dark grey will have a red tint to it. The red tint is only an issue for the various shades of grey; black and other colors are not affected. (on my screen anyway, and white may be a bit off as well)
The reason I ask, is that I recently had an issue with my CPU getting stuck at 100% load at random, so I sent in for a replacement. I got the new phone in the mail, and it appears to be a new, or at least a failed/repaired assembly line unit. (received a -04 part number btw)
This thing has a bad red tint to the screen, worse than my GFs nexus which we also received a replacement for. (both replacements had worse red screen) I might could get used to it, but currently it is distracting to no end.
Problem is, is that my original device has seemed to stop getting the random 100% CPU load problem. I wiped and flashed back to shipped ROM and then re-did the update path through to 2.2 build. (completely stock no root or unlocked bootloader) I did have an issue with the CPU getting stuck at 100% after that, until I uninstalled an app and reinstalled it; seems that when switching from this app to another app would cause it to get stuck. So now I am on the fence about wether to keep the new device or the old one; the CPU issue may actually be a hardware issue and come back at random sometime, or it may not.
edit: BTW is there a way to edit the poll? Iy seems that some have the tint issue at first and then it gets better. I would like to add that option.
edit 2: Pictures of the new and old devices. If you can also see my trackball is also sunk in too deep.
New on left, old on right.
No red tint on mine.
none on mine either
The first couple weeks with my nexus it had a purple tint at the lowest brightness. This is now gone.

So it got better? This could explain why the GFs screen has much less red tint than the new devices. Just sucks that my original phone is near perfect in the color area.
As far as it being purple tint, the darker colors tinted with red would appear purple-ish. The only colors I have noticed being "off" was grays and brown. (when displaying full screen single colors)
easiest test is to go to htc's website, ash/grey deigns of the site are in pinkish tint. Which is the case for me and as well as my friends, he is on Tmobile, I'm on At&T. I think this is a problem in the newer batchs of nexus. I bought mine this April.
In any case, it doesnt bother me, not a deal breaker considering I have Flash 10.1 on my phone
I would say majority of the recent owners from last 4-6months.

I bought my nexus at the tail end on January. (around the 25th) I bought the GFs nexus a few days later. (she has the tint issue)
And I added pics in one of my prior posts.
Really would like to edit this poll; add about the self fixing and about when you bought/received your device.
This poll will determine if I bother with having a third replacement sent out. I'm also running a solid red screen at full brightness for about an hour, see if that helps take out some of the red's over saturation. It affects yellows as well, I just noticed.
I ordered my Nexus when it was released and also had a purplish tint when brightness was down. I think androidandme did an article about it... maybe. Anyway it didn't bother me because I always leave it on full brightness anyway. Just checked it out on low brightness for the first time since I got it and I can confirm that the tint went away.
There is a stickied thread in the Desire forum about screens with a pink tint, might be worth reading if you have it. No idea what's in it though

I agree it is something to do with the type of display, but it seems that many do not have this issue; my first device did not. If I had always had the issue, I would not be noticing it now, but the difference is jarring.
I'm tempted to be careful with the "void" stickers and swapping the displays out myself.
Leaving the solid color running helped a small bit, but not enough to really matter.

I don't notice the tint as much unless I have the two phones side by side; though I still see it. As you can see by the pics I posted on the first page of this thread, the difference is huge.

Better screen colour with the latest update?

I just plugged my phone into the computer and it told me I had a new update about 2 days ago and flashed it.
I've always used the filter your screen app since my Z1 had the yellow hue, but after the update I started to feel like my screen was looking weird so I turned it off and the screen looks awesome now! It's not yellow anymore and white looks nice and white although the blacks could still use some improvements. Anyone else?
my screen is still the same after the update. only abit of change in color and brightness, but still yellow tint. still have to use filter your screen app.

sony said that the next update will fix the screen problem. so i'll wait for it, but if it doesn't fix it then i'll probably have to go to the sony service which i really don't want to.
After updating to latest firmware my display turns into a bit yellowish.
I dont have that issue eversince I got my Z1, I flashed the .534 via flashtool and its back to normal now..

I never had issues with the display of my Z1.White is crystal clear and the last update just made a very good screen even better. The best way to check your display is by looking a picture with pure white and not the operating system. I had serious issues with yellow tint with my previous phone Xperia T at all stock roms. I saw the same issues to some Z1's screen shots. The weird is that never saw that at non stock roms like paranoid, jellybam or aosp. The white at these roms was even better than my Z1's so I can imagine that was probably a software issue. Z1 also have a small issue with viewing angle for white levels and it can give the impression that the white is not the same at all the screen. This is not right and you can check it by changing a little bit the viewing angle when yoy look at a while screen. You will see that the yellow tint moves up and down when you change the viewing angle so it's a screen limitation and not a hardware issue .I hope i helped a little bit.

In my experience, the yellow tint was fixed by factory reset.
I got the phone from O2. It came with a slightly older O2 branded firmware (the one before 534 I think, 518?).
The screen looked perfect in terms of colour.
Then I started messing around, installed the unbranded UK firmware 534.
Then I noticed my screen was slightly yellow which I found weird, since it was fine before.
I then did a factory reset because I read in a thread that it helped.
This has fixed the problem, and I get bright whites now, no need to adjust colour.
It might or might not work for you. It's a pain having to set everything up again. But for me it was worth it, to get the right colours.
Of course, this could all be in my head and a placebo effect, but the point is that now I'm happy with my phone and the way it looks.

Green tint when N6 is tilted

Guys I'm noticing this green tint on the glass/screen when the phone is tilted. Its green from all the angles, only when you look at the screen head on you see white. So all whites appear to be green when phone is tilted. This thing is screwing with my eye when I shift from PC to N6 or TV to N6.
Only at extreme angle the camera that I have is able to capture that green tint but to the eye it is visible at the slightest tilt.
Wanted to ask you if you'll are noticing similar issue? Can you please check, post pics from diff angle or even upload a video. It would be very helpful as I can go ahead and consider a replacement if the unit is defective.
Video (sorry about the quality)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFXjRy2sDUk&feature=youtu.be
The verge review mentioned this, mine have it but less noticeable, also didn't bother me at all, I never look the phone at that angles.
this is just a normal amoled thing i believe, my device has it too
Normal for AMOLED displays.
So what do you'll think? Should I ask for a replacement as it is more noticeable then the rest? When I'm on the PC and the phone is sitting on the desk right below the monitor from this angle the top half of the screen is green and the lower half is whitish. Is it normal in the case of amoled displays? Again this is my first device which has an amoled display, never used one before so my eyes may take time adjusting to it. I'm just worried about the unit being defective.
Check the screen for pink and yellow tint, there is a forum about it. The green/blue shift is normal as the nexus 6 uses last generation amoled screens like the ones found on the note 3 and galaxy s4

Ok. Is anyone facing screen issue on your P20 Pro? There seems to be a gradient colour shift which is very obvious in a dark room when the brightness is set to low. Plus it has a green hue to it. Have a look at the picture attached. Thank you.

Ok going by the screenshots is moon+ reader
I tried it for myself and with brightness turned down to zero on phone and in the app i can also see a very slight hue.
But to be honest, i am much more comfortable reading with some background light so i can at least distinguish something of my environment , and then this is a non issue.
For completeness i took a screenshot with my camera , and it's way worse then what i could see with the naked eye.
With the naked eye it is noticable , but not so bad as the camera makes to believe.
Anyway , a non issue for me.
And since my and your screenshot are suffering from the same hue shift , it might even be a problem with the moon+ reader.....

Thank you very much for following up. It happens in the gallery too. I've tried it with different pictures that have solid colours such blue, red, green, grey, etc. Do you think the warranty covers intentionally? I bought the phone with full of excitement while I was in Singapore for a holiday. I love this phone so much but the screen is bothering me. Sigh!

I'm pretty sure its not covered , the screen works flawless under normal conditions even in the the dark. Only when i go to extreme's like setting negative brightness levels in software the problem really shows up.
I will never have this problem unless i actively go and look for it.
same for me. the vertical and horizontal lines are not really an issue for me, i though i can live with it: i had the same on my p9 plus but on the left, there is a 2cm zone on all the height really darker and it made it almost unreadable at night (lowest light), even with screen filter or not.
i returned my phone and now i must wait to order a new one... my provider tell me they will not have twilight anymore.
i'm very disapointed.
Amoled screens are always a lottery when it comes to uniformity. Sometimes you have luck other times not. There are good screens out there and this time around I got one of the better ones. I have seen others complain about screen issues so not all screens are good like with most phones that have Amoled. Below is mine at 0% brightness and the app you used.
Mine has the issue as well. I ll be getting my device replaced soon as it also has a slight gap between frame and back panel at top left edge
Same issue here. First P20 Pro had it from bottom to top (pinky purple at the bottom, yellowy green at the top), second one has it left to right, but more pronounced on the bottom of the screen.
Is it worth replacing it again? I'm not happy with paying a significant amount per month for this if the screen is bad on all of them.
I would like to check mine. What is the best way to check this?
Update: So i opened lcd test app on my p20 pro and here's how mine looked like in the dark.
I don't know if i did it right but tell me if i need todo anything more to check this propertly.
Oh ffs, my third one has it too. Significantly green in the top left running about half way down the phone.
I've now been to the store 3 times, it's a 96 mile round trip! Nearly 300 miles of fuel wasted on this rubbish.
I get "it's a chinese phone," but we're paying Samsung prices for it, these screen issues are just unacceptable!
Have p20 pro for 2 weeks now. Always thought it's some dark theme design before found this topic. Have top much brighter than bottom in low light conditions. Can't see in bright room or in dark room with brightness more than 50%. I wouldn't be worried if it wasn't so annoying while I watching YouTube before go to sleep. Half of the screen grey, another near to black.

White balance issue on 1x(RYYB) and 5x lens?

I'm on .140 and find Primary lens (RYYB) has white balance issue especially with red-orange object
test it with 1x(RYYB) compare to 0.9x(RGGB) or Super Macro(RGGB) mode.
also 5x come with really blue tint.

This is the only thing that make me think about a Galaxy S10+ instead of P30 Pro, the S10+ (in my own opinion) is better in every single aspect but the camera, and if there is now way to get it working properly, it doesn't worth my money. Hope it get fixed soon.
Perhaps it's fluctuations in lighting causing throwing the white balance measuring off, some types of led and fluorescent lights have slow frequency 50/60Hz updates where the white balance varies quickly.

Definitely strange behaviour with white lights.
Taking a photo at night, the white lights are blown with red outlines.
Look at the temple examples. From 1x and 5x lenses

Aye no prob, color correction is much better on the .153. Pretty sure Huawei knows and they're applying fixes probably in stages. The browns tend to become a little over saturated still but irl images are much better than day 1
