Least there is no dust - HTC First

I have been trying to access the battery for some time now because I have always carried an extra battery with my phones. I will let you know when I get there.
If not then I broke something and you will not hear back from me.

Phone powers off by itself.

several times throughout the day i go to pull my phone out of its nice little holster and i hit the power button to wake it up and it was off.
very frustrating because it has to boot up and then i have like 5 emails 9 texts and the phone begins to ring telling me they have been trying to get ahold of me for the last 20 minutes or so. ooops soory run on.

s2u
s2v
live search
sirius wm5
google maps
Ygo!
PSNES
Diamond TV
core player

blah blah blah....
etc... the usuals.
i have uninstalled winterface and TL and tried it that way still no luck.
the holster that i use is this one.

(it has a pouch for my blutooth and spare batt...)
Edit: i seem o recall someone saying not use a holster with a magnet or something? any truth to phone interferance from a magnet.?
Answer: (for when its figured out)
Please gurus throw me some ideas, and dont just say mean stuff just because i didnt search the forum first cuz i did. also people who are mean on the internet are usually punks or nerds in real life. I happen to be mean in real life and a nerd on the internet. lol...
Whew. thats a lot
Carefully clean the contacts on your battery and on the device...

As to the case with magnet, i use one that has two in it, with no issues,
What are your power management settings ? incase you do not know, go to settings>power> then at the bottom advanced tab, un-check the turn off device box .

Well in this case power off means to put the device to standby -- this is normally what you want to keep your battery from draining too fast.
It sounds like in his case the phone is actually turning off, since it has to boot.
hence my advice to check the contacts

I agree, it's a good idea to clean the contacts carefully with a cotton bud and contact cleaner or IPA (applied to the cotton bud). Any grease (such as from fingerprints) will likely not be seen on the contacts, but it's effects will be felt in this way along with possible erratic indications of low battery charge state or charging probs. If that doesn't make a diff, the next thing to check would be to remove the blah blah blah package, that software company always makes unreliable programs
But seriously, the o/p is unlikely to find someone with the exact same combination experiencing the same problem so I think the easiest way to track down the culprit is to do a hard reset and then progressive reinstall, testing for a day or two after installing each package until you find which package, when installed, brings on the problem.
thank you for your answers folks.
here is what i have done, cleaned the battery contacts.
using a different case.(not sure if it matters but no magnets)
and removed Winterface...
so far there have not been any issues with the Phone's power being off.
(yeah i knew it after i wrote it the whole standby/off thing thanks)
so far no issues for 12 hours or so.
@F2504x4
How long have you used the magnet case, and do you use it everyday?
just curious...?

first Glad to hear that you hopefully resolved the issue, but it will be hard to say just what fixed it, I drive racing karts, and one thing I learned is to only make one change at a time in order to figure out if it was helpful or not..something to think about..
As to the case, been using it for over a year just about 24/7 with both a 8525 and the Tilt, before I had a Pearl with a magnet , no issues , cool thing about the Pearl was that the magnet would cause the Pearl to go into sleep mode when holstered it, by design and would wake up as soon as you pulled it from the pouch .
so i do no think the case was the issue.
BTw the magnets are very strong and the flap will not open very easily.

[Q] 3 Issues! Anybody Else Have These?

Okay I have these three issues with my phone...
1. Bluetooth: Sometimes when I enable bluetooth and connect it to my headset and try and play something no sound comes through and then the phone becomes redicuasly laggy. To fix this I power down the phone, then when I try to power it back up there is no response from the phone. After pulling and reinserting the battery the phone manages to boot and then connects to bluetooth headset & works fine. This has happened multiple times.
2. 3 Button: I know a lot of people have this but my phone has no recovery mode by the 3 button combo. I see there is a sort of firmware fix that people aren't sure is the real deal yet
3. Battery Loose: When I shake my phone, tap my screen or hold it tight you can hear the battery blatantly rocking around. It feels so loose and makes the phone feel patheticly cheap, I've resorted to stuffing folded paper in there to make it feel at least a little bit solid.
Amounst these I also have a few GPS issues and lag issues which I'm not worried about as I see there is the upcoming Froyo rom and Voodoo lag fix which will fix there however on the issues above I'm considering trying to return my phone under warrarnty (which might prove difficult as its parralell importers I got it from ) what do you guys recon? Try to get a replacement or these issues common and not worth it?
Bluetooth: sounds like you have an A2DP capable headset and when it connects it's scanning your phone for medias to play and it's slow due not enough memory, due all the extra background process running that are not needed.
3 Button modes: the fixes on the Dev forum works install them if you dare, and want some protection, otherwise don't flash any ROM if you are not confortable with the idea
Batter Loose?! really? no way! WTF? how? there's no room in the compartment to move at all, are you sure it's not a used phone or a fake battery?
About the battery...
My SGS battery fit nicely & tightly in the compartment and won't easily drop out even shaking with the case removed.
Maybe should return & swap a new battery or the whole unit

yup! i agree, it sounds waaaaaaaay too fishy, probably some one messed up with that phone and re-sold it
i'll return the phone and demand a new one
I would also agree with returning it. Mine has no wobble or rocking around so i'd be inclined to think its faulty or fake.
Also we've heard how these type of battery's can explode so i wouldn't take any risks with a dodgy one.
Mine kind of shakes but I blame myself as I've taken the battery in and out alot to flash new roms and updates so I kind of bent the back cover a little. Thank god I didn't snap the back (yet). I also have a full leather case so the back cover issue isn't a problem at all

[Q] How do I dismantle the Samsung Focus S

I dropped my phone in water and took the battery out to let everything dry. The phone turns on now and seems to work for the most part, but I am having trouble with the internet connection and also my new text messages are not showing up. I can see all of the old ones, though. I wanted to know if anyone knows how to take the phone apart. I've removed the screws, but can't figure out how to take the back off. Any help would be great!

im away from home at the moment but I haven't got a clue, in saying that, isn't the galaxy S2 almost identical? maybe worth looking in to,
im also guessing that its probably just a case of slipping a very thin piece of hard plastic down the edge unclipping the plastic clips
however, in saying all that, i seriously doubt its anything to do with water damage. your radio will either work or wont work, you can either get calls, internet and sms/mms or you cant,l water is very unlikely to effect the radio "some" of the time, if the device is dried out its highly unlikely that opening it up will make any difference other than the fact you will have a broken phone that now looks like you've opened it up as well.
first things first, id format the thing and see if that works, its not beyond reason to suggest that perhaps the phone was doing something important before it took up scuba diving and perhaps it didn't get to finish it meaning corrupt files etc, if it doesn't, you could leave it in a warm dry environment for a day or so to make sure it is completely dry, if its still buggered you'll be pretty much screwed, there is minimal user serviceable parts inside, esp to do with the radio.

I take my focus s apart almost weekly when I'm bored watching tv haha. Once you have all the screws removed, slide your finger nail between the glass of the screen and the bezel and pull away from the screen. The whole back side is snapped onto the screen and internal components. While applying pressure to the back with the battery removed helps a lot. Just note that the speaker will stay inside the plastic backing and can be popped out if needed. From what I'm willing to try, I've removed both cameras, antenna, and a few other things I forget. Overall it comes apart really easy and goes together just as easy. Good luck!

Hi
Recently i connected my Focus S a data cable damaged and made me a curt circuit in the power adapter, which it broke down the device.
The repair was very simple and the device is simple to open.
This is what i replaced:

See the photos you see how to disassemble the device.

[Q] What do the Home button lights mean?

I've had a touchpad that has been bricked for awhile, kept trying to charge it and it would not come on.
So I decided to replace the battery, upon opening the touchpad I found the old battery had leaked all over the board. So now battery in, put back together and.... still nothing.
When plugged in the charge the home button lights do stuff... inconsistently, sometimes on or the other on solid, sometimes blink back and forth, sometimes both on, sometimes on goes from dim to bright...
So has anyone ever figured out what these lights mean...
Oh, and miracle fix suggestions are welcome as well.
well I do not know the answer but look up tpdebrick, the developer JSCULLINS is helping people who have bricked touchpads (typically those with the questions mark of death) but it might be relevant to you since the QMOD is often caused by a miscommunication with the battery and touchpad firmware.
Yeah HP made some big mistakes and if the touchpad and battery get "out of sync" it sort of bricks.
Additionally since your battery leaked, it could have nuked something and be totally toast. Sorry.
I would contact HP, while you are probably out of warranty, it might be not be super expensive to send it it.
Buy some Isopropanol alcohol and clean the board with it. Beyond me why you'd connect a new battery without cleaning it, just massively increasing the chance of breaking it.

*Sigh* I did, I did. I've done some electronics work before so I'm familiar with cleaning battery acid off circuit boards.
A member sent me a link to the following thread, I'm sure it's been posted around a few times now. But I'm going to add it to my thread in case someone is wondering the same thing I am.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/36658-tpdebrick-v01
I have not had time to try to figure out if whats contained there will actually fix my problem, but considering the first reply also recommended the OP of that thread I figure it's worth a go. I'll post back in a few days what the outcome was.

[Q] How do I get my data off this thing?

Guys, I have a problem with my HTC One M7. Phone is an AT&T phone however it's off contract (on AIO/Cricket) and has been S-OFF'ed, flashed to 4.4.4 with TWRP, etc.
I was commuting home from work on my motorcycle yesterday and got caught in rain/hail. Long story short, I was drenched by the time I got home and my phone got wet.
It's been in a bag of rice since I got home at 6:30PM.
From about 6:30-7:30PM the phones screen was black, but I heard the severe weather warning going off a few times. Then, from 7:30PM till about 1AM, it was in a reboot loop. I tried getting into recovery, etc. with no luck (as soon as I VOL DOWN to go to Recovery from Fastboot, it reboots) At that point, I went to bed so I don't know what it did all night.
Needless to say, this is my last HTC device unless they started making phones with removable batteries again. Regardless of what happens with this phone, I'm going to buy an LG G3 from T-Mobile today off contract.
I don't care what happens with this phone, but my issue or help request is: how do I get it to stay on so I can get my data off? That's the ONLY thing I am concerned with at this point.

Ok let me understand... because the phone got wet and now it refuse to boot, you are saying:

the phone hardware was damaged with water, not related to the non-removable battery...

Water damaged the phone, if it can't boot its probably an hardware problem and unless you replace the defective component, there is no way to make it boot and backup your data. You should consider making backups of your data on your pc each weeks/months (depending on your needs) with you future phone so if something happen, you'll be able to recover almost everything. Unfortunately you did not and you lost everything, sorry.
I know its frustrating but
the phone got wet by the user fault
data was lost because the user omitted to make backups
So I dont think HTC is to blame here...
keep you phone in some sort of desiccant or even in a bag of rice like you did and hopefully it will be able to boot someday.
My point about the battery was that the phone is a sealed unit and thus I can't get to ANY of the internals without doing some serious taking-apart-this-POS work (which I'm probably going to do now that I have my new phone). If the phone had a removable battery, I'd be able to dry the internals a bit more manually with a cotton q-tip, etc.
The other reason why I mention that I'll never get another phone without a removable battery is because there is NO WAY to stop the phone from rebooting other than letting it die. You know how long it took for the phone to die (I keep it on charge all day)? I literally had to put it in the other room under a pillow to f'in shut that thing up. It went on and on for HOURS.
And thanks for stating the obvious...lol.
Btw, this new LG G3 is SUHWEET.
