Photosphere and camera with more settings work on MAXX - should also work on Ultra - Droid Ultra Themes and Apps

This is a copy of my post from AC in the MAXX forum but since MAXX and Ultra almost identical, I see no reason why this wouldn't work on Ultra
I just installed the latest Nexus 4 gallery APK and it works perfectly - more settings for the camera and the photosphere works! No root requires - just make sure you check "Unknown Sources" settings on in Security & Screen Lock to allow the installation.
The original gallery app on the MAXX is version 1.1.40001
The gallery app form the Nexus 4 I installed is version 1.1.40012
The original camera app on the MAXX is version 3.0.195
The camera that came with the APK from Nexus 4 carries the same version as the gallery apk - 1.1.40012
Now I have 2 identical camera icons and 2 identical gallery icons in my app drawer - to avoid the confusion I will either rename them or hide the one I finally decide not to use (I'm using Nova launcher)
The original gallery app on the MAXX does not have capabilities to display photosphere pictures - even if you copy a photoshpere picture onto the MAXX the original gallery will only show it as a flat image - no photosphere effect. The gallery from Nexus 4 is identical to the MAXX one but does have photoshpere capabilities - even the compass mode works!
Now the camera app from the Nexus 4:
Video mode up to HD 1080p for both front and back cameras, time lapse (slow motion), white balance settings, flash on or of setting
The camera from the Nexus 4 has these settings all work fine:
Resolution: up to 5 MP (I know!!!) back and up to 2 MP front camera, exposure settings for both cameras, location, white balance settings for the back camera only, scene settings for the back camera only, location, countdown timer for the back camera only.
I guess I'll be taking photoshpere pictures with the Nexus 4 app and the other pictures with the MAXX camera app (unless to improve image quality I need to revert to Nexus 4 to use exposure, white balance, or scene settings - well, 5 MP it will be then)
But, it still nice to have photoshpere capabilities - I was really missing that.

For the Maxx, no. He only has it because he installed the .apk for the Nexus 4 on his phone - am I understanding that correctly? I didn't realize you could do that, lol.
Does that mean we can install .apks without root? - If you couldn't tell, I'm pretty new here... sorry if this isn't the right place to ask.

if the moto camera problems were due to software i was hoping to see improvement by this method, is that not the case?

I'll take some pictures for comparison at lunch and post them here

Shot #1: Maxx stock camera
Shot #2: Maxx stock camera + HDR
Shot #3: Nexus 4 Camera app

It appears that the Nexus 4 camera app shot is, while lower megapixel, but better image quality - just zoom in very closely to compare

Off topic but what is ac?

What other camera apps are folks using in lieu of, or as well as, the one-trick-pony stock camera?
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk 2

Slightly off topic, but a question about HDR on the stock camera. When using HDR, does it take 2 photos? I keep on thinking it should shoot 2 at different exposure levels and combine them, but if that's the case, mine isn't working.

Moto decided to have their camera update via play store.
Even after installing a show all apps module for exposed framework, I can't install.

[Q] Speed up Camera of.5.6.890

Hi guys, now that we have root and can flash some kind of SBF, is someone able to edit the camera app so that it will shoot photos faster? I have no Idea how and where this could or couldn't be done.
If its impossible, we have to wait for another update.
not just shooting photos faster but switching between front and rear camera faster too, sometimes you think "oh, my press didn't register, i'll press it again" and it switches back - very frustrating
The MIUI Camera posted here works great on D3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15307536#post15307536
Just no FFC ability. Good for quick photos though until we get a camera fix.
Yes, the MIUI camera works GREAT!!
I have to admit that it shoots pics faster, but its not sooo beautiful, not fully translated and has no working camcorder.
The only thing I figured out is, pictures are shot MUCH faster if you set the picture mode of the stock camera app to "Steady Shot". Then the speed, even with flashlight is almost on par with the Droid 2.
The camera apk has a lot of coded bloat used for other phones x2, defy, photon and fire - so much garbage no wonder it takes so long to start, it has to detect the current phone specs and appropriate values.

The Miui v17 camera app worked perfectly for me, although I did hear of one person who flashed 890 on top of 890....go figure! lol
I pushed the MIUI camera to /system/app, installed Quickpic, then froze the stock camera and gallery applications using TB. Everything seems to work fine.

Quickpic: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&feature=search_result
I used to use Gallery3D on my Droid Incredible running CM7, but it would lag every so often. Several people recommended Quickpic and I've loved it ever since.

Lg Camera App - Finally im not embarrased of my photos.

Hey all
I have been so frustrated with the camera on this phone as it takes barely passable photos in daylight but low light its almost impossible to take photos that are focusd and aren't full of noise. The HDR shot is quite good but nothing special.
Also the photos are a little zoomed in and squashed down if compared against objects you've take the pic of.
So i searched around and came across Lg camera in the market.
It has a free version which seems fully featured which bugs you for purchasing it every now and again. The aspect ratio of the pics is correct and tt takes excellent low light shots especially with flash on and has less noise and focuses perfectly.
Just thought I'd share it see what people thought.
Cheers.
Tried it. Didn't notice a difference. Tried camera zoom fx and all three took the same photo. The autofocus algorithms on this phone are horrible.

Sorry to say but its totally different pics on mine to stock camera. If you cant see the difference then maybe there's a fault on your phones because lg camera is perfect for me in low light and has no focusing issues at all even in a pitch black room with flash on.
You can also set infinity focus which eliminates all need to focus at all so for me lg camera fixes the problem
Also the aspect ratios in the photos on stock camera are totally different when compared to lg camera so maybe you need to compare the pictures side by side. Lg camera is true to the scene, Google camera squashes everything down. Also the Google camera is zoomed in further than lg camera.
My phone has no focusing issues with this app now.
Camera zoom fx isn't really a camera app more of a toy but anyway hope it helps someone as its sorted the camera form me and I'm very picky.
Ill update the thread with comparisons over the weekend to highlight the difference between the two cameras

Please do!
I tried lgCamera as well as other camera apps and saw no significant difference.
There are several aspects to the bad pictures problem.
- One is the limitations of the camera module which no app can fix.
- Then there's camera calibration. The LG Optimus 4X HD has the same camera module
but produces photos with less noise. There's room for improvement here but it is most
likely going to happen with a firmware update.
- Proper metering and scene evaluation will no doubt increase the picture quality.
Manual control is one avenue to peruse this but I haven't come across and app that
gives exclusive control over ISO and shutter speed. Some apps let you select one and
then automatically adjust the other.
Check out Camera FV-5.

The camera app itself doesn't really matter.
All the actual focusing/picture taking/etc is done by the kernel module. There is a userspace driver which translate commands from the camera API (its just ends up being a string that defines parameters in plan text) and based off of that it tells the kernel module to make those changes/perform those actions. It even defines the jpg compression quality and whatnot, so there isnt much the actual app itself does.

The camera app *suggests* the compression it would like, it doesn't do the compression itself. The userspace module instructs the camera kernel module to do the compression, and the build in DSP in the Qualcomm chip does the actual compression.

Could someone post the camera apk from KitKat?

I'm very disappointed with the resolution of the default camera. The images are not sharp, and absolutely terrible in low light. I'm surprised Samsung is getting away with this.

Highest quality, image stabilization on, auto mode. Just play with it, it has iso and exposure settings too. I have taken some really sweet long exposure shots with it propped up on a rock that look like they've been taken with slow exposure film.
Ever tried Camera Zoom FX?

Mine goes to 12.8MP (4128x3096). I did notice it didn't do 4k video recording, but I can't find any third-party apps that do that. Does it maybe vary device to device? Might be worth trying out... I know the max MP stated for the Note 3 is 13 but for all I know that's an averages thing. I don't mind losing 0.2MP, since for all I know the full 13 is like I said just raising up.

What's your favorite Camera App(s)?

So as we all know, Nexus has previously not been a photocentric brand. Nexus phones' cameras have generally been somewhere between acceptable and downright horrendous. (I say this in comparison to other Android flagships, not in comparison to DSLRs.) Now, this Nexus seems like it will have the hardware to produce potentially exceptional photos, on par or better than other flagships, but Google Camera has traditionally been limited, so I expect many of us may end up using third party camera apps. I am personally coming from a Galaxy S5, which ofcourse has a ridiculous amount of camera features in software, which brings me to the point of this thread:
What are your favorite camera apps and why?
Think quality, functionality, the best ways to squeeze top quality from our N6s

I like to use A Better Camera sometimes because of all the different shooting modes. Here is a list of what it offers, from the Play store page:
* HDR (photos and video): vivid colors and rich detail, photos looking like taken with a DSLR and processed with Pro software
* Panorama: up to 360 degrees, up to 100 MPix
* Unwanted objects removal: remove objects from the photo with a tap
* Night mode: capture sharp and noise-free photos in any illumination
* Group portrait: make everyone smile, fuse faces from series of photos into one
* Video recording + time lapse
* Pre-shot: capture what happened before you tap the button
* Sequence shot: capture the evolution of the dynamic scene
* Burst and expo-bracketing: Pro functions in your mobile camera
OnePlus One camera app is the best so far. I found it's a big improvement over the Google camera, stock cam, and a few paid camera apps I've used.

I got one version of it to work but it was form the Moto G and didn't have an HDR option I like the look of the new version that was released yesterday but I can't download it because I don't have a moto x. Any other camera app better than stock one for xperia z1?

Have you guys found any other camera app better than Sony's stock one? I bought z1 few days back, but was shocked to see that when you are in full resolution mode, you can't even select some scenes. That's pathetic. Why sony has given a 21mp cam, when it only wants us to shoot in 8mp? I agree that this device is old, but shiny could change this setting in lollipop update.
Nevertheless, I tried few apps like camera zoom fx, google camera, camera fv-5 but noneof them were better than stock (with default settings). Please share your experience and tips regarding photography with Sony xperia z1.

A Better Camera app seems to apply edge detection absed noise removal, structure filter and change some parameters like gamma, contrast and brightness aswell as saturation. Several BTC photos in that video really look way off. You could pratically mimic this in Snapseed with filters and changes to stock cameras photos. However I do like in some photos how the structure and edge removal noise filter is applied. These filters are used by Samsung galaxy mobiles except on the S5 and S6 gives blurry detail but then those cameras there dont match up to the Z1+ series detail capturing. In the end a post processed photo from Z1+ series mobile will look better and give more opportunity to hit the right balance.

I use the app Camera FV-5. Full manual settings and the long and long+ functions are working great for me with lowlight shots. One thing I still don't like is the flash on the z1
FV-5 with "Long" mode or "Fast" mode or ProCapture which pretty much allows SA with 21MP (Night scene, Portrait scene and so on). 21MP or max capture resolution in ProCapture and selecting 16:9 aspect ratio makes it supersample the image and also increase clarity, detail and calculate higher ISO than-is-shown for exif. Final image is 15MP but it has more detail and better lit than 4:3 21MP.
