[Q] Anyone picking up at the ATT Store ?? - Moto X Q&A

Any update on if there in any of the stores? Anyone planning on picking one up?

Picked up a customize card at a local AT&T store. They had a white display model out that I played with while it took them 45 minutes to figure out how to ring me up (no joke).
Now I get to wait 11 days for my phone to be shipped. So much from created to in your hands within 4 days!

That's what I'd like to know. That's what MotoMaker quoted me when I ordered. Nothing unusual about my phone best I could tell, but won't be seeing it until after Labor Day.

Anyone successfully pick one up today?

I'm waiting for the store to open.... :_/

Jeeze I hope their not already that far behind! That's why I'm here at opening so don't have to worry about it. On the other hand, maybe I do..... Did you call moto on it? 3 times the wait is on the excessive side...

Went into the store and got a MotoMaker card for a 32GB (can only get 32GB online, apparantly). my shipping date is:
Est. Delivery Wednesday, 09/04/13*
ugh.

Guess everyone is going the MotoMaker route..
Anyone buying a stock branded MotoX?
Would like to see hands on images....

Talk about short sighted. 16 GB is too small and 32 only available online. No way they're going to be able to meet the shipped to you in 4 days promise. AT&T
Should have stocked the 32 in stores

Went into the store here and they didn't even have it out let alone the sales guy didn't even know it was a new phone. Took them over an hour to figure out how to sell it to me. Went on moto maker told me twelve days to ship. We shall see. Ugh!

Not really shortsighted on their part. The reason why they don't mass produce the 32gb version is that 16gb is more than enough for most people, and it's easier for them to stock only one and have the few people who want the 32gb to order directly. It just sucks for the few people who end up having to order it.

Me too. I was there for over an hour. On top of it, they screwed up somewhere along the way and now my LTE doesn't work. The good news is, I was only eligible for an exception upgrade, but for some reason I only paid the full upgrade price. So I walked in expecting to pay around $550, but walked out only paying $360. I'll deal with having no LTE for a few days to save that kind of money (they can't get it working again without redoing the whole process, which could put me back at the correct pricing). But yeah, I got the same 12 day ship time. What happened to 4 days????

I understand why they did it (as you state above), but 16gb is NOT enough for most people. 16gb means you get about 10-11gb usable. If you actually use your phone you will run out of space. Thinking 5gb of music (not much), 10 mega pixel pictures, and 1080p videos... I would argue most people will run out of space after 6-8 months. Of course I'm not even mentioning apps and everything else that will take space on the device. Giving 50GB of google drive space is a bull**** answer. I don't always have network connectivity or want to use data (using battery and carrier networks) to get my data. Its a cop out. Google's mindset of putting everything is the cloud is great for the ideal world in the future, but not for now.
/end rant. Like I said, I understand all the reasons why they do it, but I vehemently disagree..

It's about keeping what you need most on the device and then keep the rest in cloud if you it. 11gb is still a lot. I usually carry around about 4gigs of music (500+ songs) too, and my apps don't take up more than another 2gigs. The few gigs that are left is enough to download files and TV shows, and for other normal usage like taking pictures. I have never found myself short on space because I constantly offload my pictures and videos like most people do.

[Q] Who is holding off for the 32GB

We all have seen the news that a 32GB is coming and will be around for the holiday season, my brother works at Best Buy here in Canada and his inventory shows a 32GB as coming soon for $269 CAD so its defiantly coming.
Just wonder how many of you will hold off on the 16 now that the 32 will be out soon.

I don't think you'll get any "Yes I'll hold off" answers in this forum, as most of the people are here because they have a Nexus7
Would have liked a 32 GB but with OTG don't think its terribly necessary.
Since N7 isn't selling in my country (Brasil) i will have only 1 shot when a friend of mine visit NY next week. But i dont think 32GB will be available till desember.

After 3 failed RMAs from Google Play, I got a refund and just picked up a new Nexus 7 from Walmart last Friday. I'm thinking about returning my Nexus 7 16GB and waiting on the 32GB model.
Haven't decided, but will need to in the next few days.

Don't you know this by now, Ravynmagi... what works for 1 person works for everyone. Duh.
I however am doing just fine with 16GB for the most part. The biggest space issue I have is when I go on long trips (which is rare, but happens) and want to watch TV shows or movies to burn up the plane time. Fun fact - even with 64GB of space I'd run into the same issues. It's significantly easier for me to have a 500GB external (which has about 400GB worth of media) that I can pop in, copy media, disconnect, and be done with it. I'd likely use OTG in these situations regardless of what sized tablet I had. That said, these situations are rare, and 16GB is more than enough for me on the regular day to day.
I will say this. I find cloud services significantly easier to manage because everything is in one location. For me, Subsonic is such a win for music/videos because I host it out of my basement and I own the server, the material, etc. I handle it my way.
One centralized box for everything, especially on my own very LAN, is such a :good::good::good::good::good:. Couple that with the fact the same server is running "owncloud" (think Dropbox but on your own server) is yet another :good::good::good::good::good:.
But there again, just my 2c.
Are external storage (2,5“ HD) working with otg?

it may not be official but we know its coming and the fact my brothers bestbuy inventory shows it plus other stores with a price tag but no date means its coming. I'm sure it will be released for the holiday season, stupid if they don't.
I have a 16GB S3 and i can tell you that is not enough and had to buy a 32GB microSD. I don't like the whole cloud storage thing what if i'm on the go an have no internet access. OTG is fine but its not very portable. I mean if we had a proper micro usb to micro sd then 16GB would be fine, hopefully the kickstart project in the OTG thread kicks off.

nexus 7 8gb being discontinued for 16gb and 32gb

Apparently we who preordered the nexus 7 early got bamboozled (lol) , the 8gb will be discontinued and the 16gb will take its place at $199. While the 32gb will replace the 16gb.

You bought the product because were happy with the price and gear being offered.
The Nexus 7 is a damn good deal any way you look at it. $50 extra to have this thing for 2-3 months which would have otherwise been spent dreaming of purchasing one and browsing sites for the best deals all day?
I'm happy with my purchase still. I feel bad for anyone who got an 8gb though.

I hardly buy anything from the play store. While the credit is nice to have, I rather see a less amount on my credit card bill.
It's something I'll have to get over but I technically haven't even paid for it yet since the bill isn't due lol. So.. yeah, in that case I'm a little annoyed.

I knew that a that better / cheaper SKU would show up, didn't expect it before Christmas TBH, but I don't care I wanted to experience stock Jelly Bean asap. I've ordered a usb-otg cable and tasty 32 GB USB 3.0 pendrive, which has the benefit of being used over multiple devices.
I'm not really mad I'm just disappointed in Google's marketing. Not a lot of people buy into the nexus brand and Its really not nice to do what they are going to do but since I love this device so much I'm not going to get mad, I'm just going to right them a nice message of what I think about this on October 29th.
Now I'm thinking if I should buy the nexus 4 when they release it or wait.
I'm wondering if people sending in 8gb sets for RMA would get a 16gb back.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?
I've had mine for about a week and love it. I have a 30 day return policy, if my store got them by Oct 29, wonder if they would let me return it?

I guess you can still call it a rumor. But the 32GB is obviously real at $250 and the 16GB isn't going away, so it'll almost certainly drop to $200. There isn't room for an 8GB model.
I think it's just common sense at this point that the 8GB model is about to get clearanced at the end of the month.

From a business stand point, they are going to sell the 8GB at 199 till it's out of stock, then push the 16gb down to 199 and throw in the 32gb at 250.

2-3 months? That's perhaps true if you're in the US, where it's been released first - not counting some later adopters who didn't get it from day 1. That's not true anymore in some other countries, where it's been out for quite less than 2 months.

Guess what? In those countries where it's been released more recently, the credit is still active... and thus I'd bet the early 32GB buyers will still get it.
So, yes, it IS bad, when there's a 32GB model scheduled for the same price as your 16GB unit, 45 days (since there are obviously numerous leaks) after it's been available in your country.

I have to agree. The people that have had there's for 31-45 days get screwed the hardest. They're just outside the return/refund window and have had so little time with there's to really enjoy it before a price drop and a higher capacity model for the same damn price is released...
I'm one of those people and I'm pretty miffed... I'll be very caution and wait 2-3 months after every new Nexus release or simply not buy from Google at all... we shall see...

Bought the 8 at launch from the Play Store to see if I would like using a tablet. Now I use it all the time. Rely on it. So. Afraid to root it in case I brick it. Want root for Stickmount. 32G means I can have a load of storage and root my 8 with no fear. Cool. Also, its easy to forget just how low cost these devices really are. I think the 32 is a response to the ongoing criticism of the non expandable storage capacity. I like that they listened.

A UK based catalouge retailer called Argos has published it's Christmas supplement with the 32GB being £199.99
Now they have stopped the Play Store credit and freebies, along with great economies of scale, maybe the 8 GB will get a price cut to undermine the cheapest Kindle Fire?

32gb sales are officially embargoed till after the Google press event on Monday.
You might get lucky and find a store that's slips up and sells before then but you might as well wait till Monday after 4pm when you can order online from a variety of retailers or get one from store. Unlike the 16gb launch there will be no shortage this time.

Live in Newport, but was shopping in Cardiff and just asked on the off chance - they only had a 16gb on display (but it turns out none in stock to sell) and only the 32gb there. Asked for it, checked it was a 32gb and left a happer camper lol
By the way the Serial Number on the 32GB N7 starts with CA0K
I understood the 16gb Models started with C70 or C90.
I've no idea what significance this has (if any).
The screen build quality is perfect with no lift.
That's awesome. Tomorrow I'm going to swing by Curry's, PC World and Argos. I'm not expecting Tesco to sell it.

I just wish I had known there was a 32gb coming considering I bought my N7 a month ago. I need more space than 13gb of usable memory, that's like 5 hd games.
I think this is part of the reason behind the Google Play $25 credit honestly, so really I only paid $225

Glad I waited, just bought the 16GB.
-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-
What bothers me is that the resell value was slashed. I mean if you bought a 16gb for $250+tax, you could probably resell it for $225 on top of all of initial offerings we've gotten from Google. Now it is $199, you'd be lucky to get $175 for it. Plus with the upgraded memory people aren't going to want the 16gb so you'll have to practically give it away.
Oh well. Life is full of surprises. They should have just came out with a 16/32gb unit out of the gate and stop screwing around with 8gb. Memory is so cheap now-a-days that it is pathetic that we allow manufactures keep us in this rut. I mean I had 16gb CF in my old Dell x51v Windows 5.0 "palmtop" haha. Honestly units SHOULD be coming in as 32/64gb these days... or even 64/128gb.
Media consumption is getting deeper and deeper. With games using 4gb each, 8/16gb just don't cut it without sacrifice.
Full agree on that post. But ive learned my lesson, i will wait at least till Christmas to get a Nexus 4 and closely watch the rumors.

I will second that. I do not regret paying full price for mine. That's always the price you pay for buying tech. It gets cheaper and specs always improve. Give it a few more months and there will be something better and cheaper on the market, that I have no doubt.

July: Use the cloud**, you don't need more than 16GB!
**cloud available in US only
October: We put our smartest people in a room and came up with a genius idea: 32GB! All the storage you've always wanted all along!
I bought a 16gb at launch. Sold it on Friday last week for $150, bought my 32gb the next day.

ive got a 16gb one and have all my music and books in the cloud,im from uk its not only usa who get cloud ,overall im happy with what ive got and hardly touch my s2(32gb) anymore apart from calls and im due an s3 mid november that will be wasted in my pocket
im stuck
I sold my 16gb nexus 7 to my roommate because 16gb was to small for me and i want to buy the 32 gb version
But i also want the nexus 10 or the new chrome book as a replacement for my Transformer prime
the Transformer prime is ok especially for what i do (I use it for school/occasionally web surfing) but it has no real upside. it still lags, and slows down for no reason.
Anyone have any ideas what should i do?
Im thinking nexus 7 and probably the chromebook, its got the same processor and ram.
I'm being philosophical about this.
I bought the 16GB version three months ago so I've certainly had my money's worth.
Wife seems disinterested in having my N7 to make way for a 32GB upgrade and then Google announces the N4 16GB and I need to upgrade from my HD2 anyway.
Wife needs to upgrade her phone, too, so she can have the HD2.
My N7 still has about 6GB free space and that's with a lot of apps and stuff which would usually be on my phone.
Once I've bought the N4 and moved a lot of apps and stuff over to that there will be sufficient room on the N7 for my needs.
Plus there's still OTG and Drop Box ... Or VPN to my own local server ..

White Nexus 4 now available in US Google Play Store With Free Bumper

It's just a new hue for a seven-month-old phone, but there are still a few Nexus 4 enthusiasts who are ecstatic that a white version has finally been released. It officially launched two days ago in Hong Kong, but it's now hitting the US Google Play Store, as well as T-Mobile's website "for a limited time." If the $299 / $349 Play Store price is above your budget, the UnCarrier's financing plan will be your best option: it's offering the alabaster Android device for $20 down with 24 monthly payments of $17. If your country's Play Store isn't selling the new color yet, be patient -- its rollout over the rest of North America, Asia and Europe will continue over the next few weeks.

Where's my free bumper? I just bought my Nexus 2 months ago
Oh well. Even had I had the knowledge of all of this two months ago, I wouldn't have waited.
Ugh I just received my Nexus 4 in the mail yesterday and found out about the free bumper promotion. Called Google today, they told me to return the phone and reorder it for the free bumper, I asked them if i could just get my order refunded $20. They said no, It's ****ing backwards how they want to do this. I already got my screen protector applied and my phone rooted and custom rom installed; I'm just gonna cut my losses and take the $20 hit.
Edit: Might as well try emailing them, I got nothing to lose.
T-Mobile posted on Facebook saying the white one is available through them too in limited quantities. But it says online "Note: This item is not eligible for a monthly payment plan." So you would be paying $427 99 from T-Mobile up front.
Ordered the white one today... Time to sell the black one

I am thinking of getting the Nexus 4 now since it will be my first smartphone and this promotion is too hard to pass up. Any suggestions on which storage option I should pick? I plan to root, install custom rom and just experiment a lot with it. Have the occasional videos and music and some games/apps too.
8gb or 16gb, thoughts? Thanks.

I don't store any media on my device and I have 6.32GB left. All the space is taken by nandroids and apps and stuff. I guess if you're really going to get into flashing ROMs and experimenting with your phone, I'd go 16gb, just so you have to shuffle things from your device to the computer way less.

Okay makes sense, but in regards to flashing ROMS, wouldn't I have to factory reset after each flash and as a result all data would be deleted?
