Guide for LG P705(Performance & Battery): Latest Kernel & ROM(Very Stable) - Optimus L3, L5, L7 General

Hey Guys,
I am currently using the following Rom: 4.2.2 Beta 6 CM 10.1 -> By tudorsirb
KERNEL: TEAMHACK LG Beta 2 -p705 //Yes! now we have our own kernel version
BATTERY SAVING METHOD
1. the kernel lowers voltage supply to processor increasing battery life.
2. TURN NFC OFF: Using titanium backup- Delete the NFC file from phone. Restart. Then using a root file manager(EG:SManager) access the 'system' folder, then open 'etc' folder. search for the NFC file(dont rememeber properly, a little messed up name but has the words 'nfc' in it), delete it. restart phone.
3. Antutu benchmark is 4020 with about 10-15 apps installed.
4. Not sure about the Gaming aspect, but the performance and battery life seems really good!
NOTE: No Andorid os battery drain

wants CM10 custom ROM

[Q] Changing to Cyanogenmod on the P990? Keeps failing

Hi guys
I am trying hard to flash my phone with the latest stable Cyanogenmod (7.1)
But I am facing some issues..
Here is what has happened so far:
I have tried a couple of times now, but every time it just hangs on the blue LG startup logo..
Please explain this to me, as if I know nothing at all. (I feel this way)
So here is a list, of how I think I should do:
1: Reflash with Nvflash, so the phone actually becomes bootable
2: install Rom manager (It is not available in China) but I have an .apk So now I install File manager from market, first.
3: Root phone
4: startup
5: start Rom manager, run "flash clockwordmod recovery" select "LG/T-mobile G2X" (Is this the right one?)
6: Choose "reboot into recovery"
7: Choose Factory reset-> Wipe cache and install zip from SD (First CM7.1 then Gapps)
8: Reboot (This is where it hangs on the marvellous blue LG logo)
I think I might be doing something wrong regarding the Recovery (No. 5 or 6)
But please point out what I might be doing wrong..
Looking forward to yoyur assistance

You did it wrong by step 5 you have to choose lg optimus 2x and not lg g2x of t-mobile

Thanks tekingenc for a very fast reply.
I just do not have the option for the optimus 2X.. Is my clockword old?
I am in China and Clockworkmod has been blocked (Not commenting on that) on the market. So I am using an APK for installation, via File manager (Astro is also blocked)
Any clue as to where I might find a version that includes p990?
Which version of Rom manager do you have?
The latest is 5.0.0.6
Take a look at Rusty's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599

7.1 is too old, maybe you should try to flash the latest Temasek build, is pretty stable.

Thanks. I just want something really stable. As you've guessed I don't know a lot about these things. I just wanted something that was a bit more responsive than the stock, provided from LG (I can't believe hos slow it is) Which made my p990 feel as fast as my HTC Legend..
Its probably better to install a ROM via the CWM console instead of using ROM manager .. Specially if you have differently mapped sdcard mount partitions.. But then ROM manager isnt that bad
::::

CyanogenMod is nothing more than a custom rom for your phone. You can change your rom after you've rooted your phone. A rom is more or less the software what runs on your phone.
You probably got your O2X fresh out of the box with a stock (crappy) LG rom on it. Well, my advise is to change your rom because sooner or later you'll find out that the stock rom is really bad.
You don't 'have to' change to CyanogenMod, because this is obviously your choice. There are many other custom roms in the dev section like MIUI, or improved stock roms. You just have to read the threads, look at the screenshots, read the reviews and make up your own mind.

guide me to install ics

asked be4 about which rom is the best one before i bought the galaxy tab
now i bought an used galaxy tab but with good condition so im new here " a noob "
and honestly i get cofused with all the topics and guides and answers ,,, it is like a paradox for me !!!
i want to install AOKP rom but from what i read it require overcome rom be4 i install it ... i need to know why !! my galaxy tab seems to be in stock rom gb why i cant install aokp rom without these dilemma ?
and there are alot of word i dont understand like MTD , modems , drivers , kernals , etc
and also there are liks from overcome are dead ,,, Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_Wipe.zip ,,,Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.tar,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.zip,,, modems
so if u please guide me how to install it from the beginning to the end i will be very pleased
The why : you need to use CWM to flash ics, and overcome kernel has it.
There are others but the method may not be reliable.
Here to get overcome

only gb stock safe ?
what about overcome 7 wipe ? overcome 7 nowipe ?
and what about modems ? which one i use ? or dont use any one ?
Gb stock safe package contains modem.
There is no need to flash overcome rom.
Only up to overcome kernel, you have cwm.
Use that to flash ics.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have clean Gingerbread.
But since you want ICS, continue reading the guide.
- download ICS (CM9 or AOKP) and gapps-ics and put in external sd card.
- boot to download mode
- you need to use Odin to flash Overcome kerner tar
- once flashed the tab reboots.
- ignore the robotic voice, just force the tab to off
- boot to CWM recover (press vol-up and power )
- flash ICS (CM9 or AOKP)
- after flashing the system will convert your tab to MTD partition, but it will probably bring you to recovery or stuck at boot.
- force reboot to recovery again
- flash ICS again
- immediate after complete, flash gapps
- reboot

Hey, you don't sleep. Do you
Great you are now on AOKP like me. You won't regret.
Grab an external SD and learn to do Android backup from recovery.
And move it to external SD for safe keep.
And also learn titanium backup, also choose to backup to external is better in that one.
Samsung uses touchwiz framework for many of its app. So you can't have them in aosp based rom like cm9 and AOKP, or even miui.
But head to the application and theme sub forum. There are a few that runs.
Camera known issue.
Super user built in. You can now run Titanium backup that requires root.
Or es file explorer my favorite, in root mode and system mounted read write. Terminal too, just type su in the terminal shell and you get root.
Rom control, ask in AOKP thread in dev.
Also nav bar, ask in dev if that can be done.
I mostly run stuff in standard mode.

no i slept
again thank alot
i will ask there
@priyana:
Hi, I have a question, actually two:
1. Does GSM work on AOKP out of the box?
2. Is it supposed to work on CM9 ICS 4.0.4? This is what I have now, 3G works but when I make a call hear the tab ringing but my phone does not.
I bought this baby used in top shape and I would really like to get the phone function working.
Thanks in advance
yes GSM should work on both AOKP and CM9 since they use the same device tree.
I understand Canada has different GSM/UMTS frequency than us in europe/asia/australia ? the default baseband in AOKP and CM9 is JPZ
In your default stock firmware, can you have 3G and also make phone call?
You need the same modem, if you can remember which baseband you are using in stock.
Else we just have to look around what works for you.
Go to the modem thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
and try get the AT&T modem,
BUT DONT FLASH the zip via CWM in ICS.
backup your /radio/modem.bin first.
just unzip the zip and find the modem.bin and copy and paste to /radio/modem.bin
reboot and check the baseband and try your 3G and call.
Thanks man, I will try it and let you know. I got the unit used and with the mentioned ROM already on it.
The baseband that I have is P1000XXJPZ
Once again, thanks
Hmm, yeah, it didn't work...
I tried the steps found in the Overcome guide and I restocked after that I stopped and tried calling and ... IT WORKED!
I am now rebooting after flashing the overcome kernel (it's doing some conversion to ext3) ...
All that's left after that is to flash the rom... OK, it's booting, let's see what's next
OK CWM recovery does its thing...done, rebooting. Can't wait to try the voice call feature... And it works also!
I am pretty happy with the results of my 15 minutes of work.
Anyone needing stuff, I am ready to help

I9000 still useable?

Hi,
About a year ago I bought my wife an i9000 off ebay. It is the UK unlocked version. It came with the stock rom. I rooted it and have installed various different roms over the year. At first, the phone was fine, but its gradually got slower and now, it's almost unusable. The phone constantly lags, hangs, crashes etc. It drives the wife up the wall and I get it in the neck.
I finally decided to go back to the last official gingerbread rom to see if that would help (XXJVU), but its the same.
I am starting to think that the phone simply isn't powerful enough to run today's versions of the apps a smartphone should be able to run. Her list of 'must have' apps, on top of what's installed as standard is as follows:
Apps that will run in the background:
Facebook app and widget
accuweather app and widget
BBC news app and widget
stock calander widget
viber
Apps that will be opened and closed:
skype
memoires diary app
adobe reader
google translate app
samsung mobile print app
CTK (Czech news app)
Is this list of apps excessive? Should an i9000 be able to run today's versions of these apps without any problems? A lag here and there won't bother her, it's the freezing and crashes that drive her crazy.
If the above should be possible, could someone recommend a ROM or ROM/kernel combo that would work? I don't care if its stock or custom, or what version of android it is, I just want the phone not to freeze.
Thanks

Hi, if u already suitable with flashing, then its easy, GB got really good sense on videos n app but its to buggy to use, Using ram manager n sometimes reboot ur fone will clearing cache so ur fone will be fast again, but only on limited time. Cache will start to bulky n slowing down da fone.
If ur familiar with flashing, then upgrading ur fone to ICS or JB is wise decision. As 4.x Android have a good ram manager n easy to use, and did say, clearing cache would be good but sometimes check ur internal sd if it get too bulky. Insufficient space will makes operation apps to became failure as app need space to launch either in RAM or sd.
and still, if ur fone still became lag or slow, after upgrading, i suggest u use some script available here in XDA to make ur fone systems manageble like supercharger or fly on script.
but be xtra careful and read carefully before doing something. Doesnt want to risk bricking ur fone rite, so Good Luck

if u choose GB, just go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273317 and choose any 2 attached link (CM or Stock (not both) ) then choose what Ram Manager u wanna use and copy it to internal sd. Boot to recovery and flash RAM MANAGER first, then da Fly On script after. Reboot. Thats all.
If u from ICS/JB Rom (custom or stock)
Hav u rooted? Root first and update ur superuser binary. And ur chosen rom must have kernel that support init.d (see if u got init.d folder in /system/etc/ thats all. or juz ask ur ROM dev
1. Download script manager from GPlay
2. Download this script (.sh) http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1200973&d=1342401278 and dont change anything. Save da script inside root of internal sd
3. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273317 and download da 1 of 2 last attachment (choose it, CM or STOCK depend on ur ROM. Most custom rom based on CM Nightlies)
4. Choose any RAM Manager u wanna used (for me its hard multitasking)
5. save it at da root of ur internal sd.
6. Run script manager and choose da script from supercharge RC10, dont forgot to tick da skull (permission from superuser).
7. Read carefully da instruction in script manager. As it will tell u everything, u can choose no for all except da one that change ur services.jar, click yes for it.
8. After da script done, it will ask u to reboot. Juz say no and it will come back to da main menu, Now u can choose again of 34 option (maybe got more option, i juz forgot about it) from script. Juz see da option to unsupercharger and choose it (coz u just want it to patched da services.jar, not to use da supercharge. Only RC10 have da option to alter da services.jar quite easily or if u wanna da hard way, see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16635544&postcount=2 )
9. Follow any of da instruction. , it juz wanna to revert back to normal, except for da services.jar
10. Reboot. Now u hav alter ur services.jar.
Now reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache.
1. In recovery, choose to install zip, dan choose RAM MANAGER first.
2. After it done, choose da fly on script and flash it.
3. Reboot after it done.
in case of update da script,
1. delete da RAM Manager in /system/etc/init.d and delete file named ram_manager. (or if ur recovery got option to clear init.d juz pick it.)
2. Reboot to recovery and as usual, repeat da above instruction (juz for da script, altering services.jar already been done) and dont forget, any changes must be followed by wiping cache.
thats all and if in case u dont hav guts to try, dont do it.
Wow. Thanks for the detailed instructions!
I have followed them and done everything you said. The phone seems to run a lot smoother now. I just hope that it stays that way and doesn't start to slow down after time.
The slim rom comes with the semaphore kernel which does not seem to have the ability to overclock. Can I install a new kernel with that rom to enable overclocking?
Thanks
Semaphore can overclock the system. However it needs it's own app - semaphore manager. With that app you'll get a few nifty features on top so it's worth downloading anyway.
find semaphore manager from stores

screenlock on i9000 and way forward
Hi guys,
cool to see there are still some SGS activities going on with that device. Since I have my GNEX I did not look at my SGS anymore.
So, had it in my hands yesterday and thought about updating it.
Problem I have is: I can not access the phone anymore because I dont remember the screenlock anymore (numbers) ;-(
The phone is fully rooted and unlocked with a
Darky Rom and
Dark kernel
Via the lockscreen I can boot to Recovery (CWM) or Download mode (as well as via the buttons of course)
Question: is there a similar tool like the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit for backing up or do a nandroid with the SGS?
I guess I have 2.3.x version running currently.
Well the external SD i backuped already - but I am afraid there is still some stuff i would like to get before wiping..
Would be great if you could help me out.

Lol man, you can't use official Facebook app on the phone, It's the slowest s*it ever made . Use m.facebook.com in browser, or any alternative Facebook client instead, official Facebook app kills all the performance .
Install GamerzROM, delete the MORPH folder from the .zip file BEFORE installation. Do NOT restore any apps using TitaniumBackup or similar. If your phone gets too slow, use Clean Master to clean the cache, that helps too (use especially this app!). Do NOT use custom launcher, use Xperia launcher, which is pre-installed in GamerzROM, it's really fast . Do NOT install any additional performance tweaks, because the best ones are pre-installed in GamerzROM.
My phone is blazing fast with these settings, hope I helped . BTW také jsem z České Republiky, zdravím
Edit: I just noticed that there ain't no download link for GamerzROM 3.0, so you can just wait for the next release .

[Q] Stuck with Ginerbread 2.3.6, Slowdown. Need Help

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.
Cheers

Hi,I'm not going to be much help as I'm a noob myself but I can say I had same stock laggy gt 19000 which through like u said a lot of confusion about rooting and ROMs researching XDA and YouTube you can do it my galaxy s is like a new phone so stick with it,one tip is always stick to you model and kernel version and write things down and I hope it goes as well as it did for me. Btw I used Odin 3.1 and clockwork to root and Flashed ROM with Cm 10.1 stable.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687727
install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want
and install via recovery

Thank you mistrp74 and The Tox for the help.
I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Just one more question, what's your backup strategy that you guys use?
Or else it a lot of work to update each and every app... one by one... also what about the SMS, call log etc?

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
