Play Youtube videos on background and offscreen! - Nexus 4 General

Hello xda, I found a way to play YouTube videos while screen is off (Only sound) and also to play them in the background (e.g. browsing on chrome while play a song on the Youtube app).
This can be made by using HALO (From Paranoid), and NOVA launcher (Not tested wih others, sorry)
I TESTED WITH:
Rom- Paranoid Android 3.98, 3.99
HALO Version- 2.0
Launcher- Nova Launcher Prime v2.0.2
Youtube - v5
here´s how to:
-First, you need to "stick" your launcher to HALO by using the app "HALO)))",
-Now, whenever you want to play the video on background or screen off, you need to launch your launcher using HALO while the video is playing
-That's it, now you are able to launch any app and the video will still playing, or you can simply lock the phone and it'll keep on.
This method can be used with other video apps and may work (Such as MX player) or may not (Netflix quit the video), you'll have to test this with your favourite one.
BUGS:
There are some bugs by using this method, I could find these 2:
-If you're playing a video on the background and try to make a phonecall, you'll hear the audio of the video over the call speaker, and sometimes after you hang up the phone, the whole system and apps sounds will be played by this speaker until you reboot the phone.
-a friend of mine tried this method using dodol launcher and, besides it didn't work, the launcher got bugged and had to Force stop to fix it.
P.S- Please tell me if you got this working with other Launchers and video players, so I can add them on the 1st post
P.S.2-
Thank you for your time and have fun!

Or you can just install showtime YouTube player.

is there a video app that plays videos after video???

like i downloaded a bunch of music videos and i wanted to see if there was an app that would allow the videos to play right after the other once one finishes? like how the music plays. the regular player stops when the video ends and i have to pick and push a new vid to play is there an auto play next video option hidden that i cant find?? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
I believe both Mobo Player and BS Player (both free in the Market) do this. QQPlayer is another one worth trying.
I know for sure that one of these has this option, just can't remember which! All are worth a try tho.

[Q] Screen flickers while playing videos

I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance i9070. Off late if I try playing videos one after the other the screen starts to flicker. The first video plays fine, flickering starts when i play the second video, then I have to bring up Task Manager and clear the memory. This happens only while playing videos, I tried the VLC player also but result is the same. 90% of system resources are free so it can’t be a lack of system resources that’s causing this. Is it a hardware issue, I re installed the stock ROM but even then same result.
I have this problem too but it seldom happens.

In my case ti happens every time I play a video, no exceptions.
Which player are you using to view the videos?
People say I'm crazy, but the voices in my head say I'm just fine.

[Q] YouTube on the background

Hey guys
Many times I listen to music on YouTube (from the app not browser) but I want to do many things at the same time. Is there any way to make youtube continue play background and have other apps open (for example Facebook or Twitter) ?
Just download viral Pop up, i can only recommend it as it is by far superior compared to YouTube. You can play Videos in the backround, even when the display is off.
You can try OGyoutube.
Search for It on forum.
Sent from my C6903 using XDA Free mobile app
PVSTAR+ serves me good for listening to music while the screen is turned off.
I use the app YT Mobile for playing YouTube videos in the background
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mcclanahoochie.ytmobile
Root, install Xposed then download Youtube backround playback module and you are done !

[Q] How to keep music streaming over BT while using camera?

How can I prevent the camera application from interrupting music playback? I can't record videos while continuing to stream audio over AUX or BT.
Using camera while streaming music will work for taking photos, BUT to record videos, they assume you want to record sound with your video, so that's why the streaming stops. You can always play music from an external source when making your music videos.

I know I can play from an external source but that would defeat the point of keeping everything on my phone- Lets say I'm having a small party and I'm streaming music from my phone over BT and then decided I want record a video, obviously I'm not going to want the music turning off for the whole party because I decided to record a video. Or another example, my little nieces & nephews were over this past weekend and were dancing to music I was playing from my phone over BT and since I have a Note 4 & always is the best camera in the room for recording videos, I'm asked to record with my phone. If they are dancing to music playing over my phone and then I record a video of them & its turns off the music, which I also want in the video, then it makes the video pointless.
I would find it extremely strange if there isn't a 3rd party app to allow this, a setting to adjust, a work-around or a Wanam xposed option to allow this.
I can't be the ONLY one with this issue lol

i guess no one else has tried to record a video while using their phone as a music player. we must be the crazy ones -_- ...seeing as that no one else was going to be of any help, had to resolve this one myself. i remember i used poweramp exclusively back in the day on my cyanogenmod g2 because compared to the stock music player it had a better interface, a ton more feautures & settings, better eq, better file mgmt, better interface & music actually played better through this app (with eq mods). I stopped using it when i got the first galaxy s as it had a bug like many things had a bug on that phone.
i just download the latest Version of Poweramp & I am blown away- it has come a long way and in my few minutes using it, I already love it again and will be using it as my primary music player. And it fixed my problem, I'm able to taking pictures & videos now without interrupting music playback. (setting for it)
any updates on this?
I to have the same issue where my kids are dancing to music I'm streaming and would love to video them doing they're crazy moves to the music.
Best bet is have the dev who rom you are using mod the camera ? apk and you are good. Every rom is different. Also someone did this already you just gotta look.
BAD ASS NOTE 4

How do you change the default video player??

Hi Folks,
Does anyone know?
In Settings > Apps there's no default video player displayed. In Settings > Apps > Configure Apps there's no "video app"... There's configuration for Home App (Launcher), Browser, Phone, SMS, Camera, Gallery, Music and Mail. No video?
The stock video player is pretty lame so I'd like to use something decent like MX, VLC?
Thanks in advance

Settings - Apps - 3 button menu-- Reset app preferences .
It basically removes all the defaults . And next time you watch a video ,, it will ask you which player to use.

Thanks for the reply, but nope it doesn't work - it still loads up the default video player? I can't believe Oneplus doesn't give you the option of choosing the video player... I should add this is only in browser streaming.

To my knowledge, in Browser streaming, the browser-built-in player is used and not the player that comes with your ROM. I may be wrong, though.

I figured out what the problem is and it was really quite a simple one which I've spent hours on...
On my old HTC M7s I have Dolphin as my main browser... I've also got the Jetpack add-on installed that includes a media player which plays flash. It's this player that is loading up for the majority of videos I view on that phone... What has me a little stumped is that it also loads up in Chrome too. I downloaded Firefox to the M7 today and it didn't load videos in the media player - it played them in Firefox's native media player. It was the same process as the Oneplus 3 so it got me thinking.
I think if the media player hadn't loaded in Chrome as well it would have been a lot quicker to work out that this was a "Dolphin only" add-on perk.
Sadly the Jetpack isn't supported in Nougat.
It's not a big deal but we've no choice (as fair as I know) but to watch any videos in the normal browsers' players... Which don't have the on-screen brightness / sound / video search capabilities like you see on the stand alone players like VLC and MX Player.
If anyone has any other ideas :good:
FYI: I've tried Puffin and Photon.
Just a shame browser vendors don't give you the option to view web videos in an alternative app as default. Firefox is really the only browser that sort of half offers that option.
Not sure if this might work, but you can try an app called better open with. You can set defaults for certain type of file types like video stream, audio stream, PDF, etc. Either way, better open with is a better alternative than the stock defualts dialog.
