{TWeak} Updated GSM APNs - Xperia Z Android Development

This will work on any GSM phone globally.
I am posting here because I recently got a c6606 and the locked bootloader is preventing proper distribution of essential updates that are normally assimilated and quickly distributed into ROMs. So I just pulled the APNs from Vanir.
What
In essence, Access Point Names are basic directions telling your phone what networks it can use
Why
Flashing this has brought my reception from 0 bars/no reception to 2 bars 4G (-103 dBm, 7 asu), not great but infinitely better than no signal
Directions
1) Download
2) Backup your current APN of your paranoid (in system/etc/apns-conf.xml)
3) Flash via CWM
4) Profit
Download

Hi, I found that some of the APNs for HK is not correct..
for example, Smartone is not incorporating with vodafone any more, so the APN should be Smartone instead of Smartone-Vodafone now. CSL does use Mobile as APN without proxy server.
BTW thanks a lot for the very detail APNs, useful for me if i goto other country when traveling.

is it compatible with c6603?

Please screen shot the apn. Would like to know what I am flashing first!

Yep, using it. Seems to make some difference.
Just backup the original before flashing, incase you need to restore.

D3 in Italy

So in five days I am going to italy for spring break. And I have no idea what fixes I need for gsm and what roms work for gsm. So with that being said could some one point me toward necessary files for gsm
Thanks in advanced.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA
So I assume you'll be using an italian SIM? Else couldn't you just roam?
For usage with GSM-SIM outside of USA you need to buy an unlock code (ebay, etc?)
Apart from that, you'll have a big change it'll just work.
If it does not:
1) you have an old SIMcard
2) you need to do some edits (e.g. vodafone)
3) stock rom is giving you trouble (for me sometime 3G wouldn't automatically turn on)
Just make sure your SIM slot is unlocked and you will be good. I don't think you will need the AT&T/T-Mobile hack.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
Sweet thanks guys. I don't need any hacks and the sim card is already italy ready. But for ics roms is there a fix that I would need?

[Q] 3G on custom ROMs

Hi guys, finally decided to put down my sensation and move onto the Galaxy S III. I'll miss it =[
So I've bought a UK Galaxy S III I9305 from T-Mobile.
I've managed to root and that and it everything was working fine so I thought I'd flash some ROMs and see what one I like. I flashed two of them (Pandoriam and rXTREME). They worked fine except mobile data would not work on either of them. I followed some instructions in the thread which said to turn on GSM only, restart then switch back to WCDMA. But it still wouldn't work. I flashed different radios as well (or modems as they're called for samsungs) and that didn't help either.
I've just flashed a stock 3.1.2 EE firmware and the device is back to complete functionality and the 3G came on immediately. I also noticed when I booted the phone the first thing that popped up was a box asking if I wanted to enable data connections; this never happened on the custom ROMs. I figured it must be me or my device since it didn't work on both ROMs, hence my posting here instead of their threads. Am I doing something wrong here?
Any help appreciated. Cheers.
Did you check the apn settings? When I flashed those roms I had to re enter the settings again

Ah this wasn't suggested. If you can be bothered could you possibly outline what I need to do. I know how to get to APN settings, do I just note down what they are now on a stock ROM and set them the same way on a custom ROM?
Thanks.

[SOLVED] Restricted access changed

The other thread was closed due to use of Spanish I think...
I'm now suffering with this issue.. My city always had a good signal but from last days it started...
Happens every 5min ... Any tip?
____
Solved. Rooted (JB, finally!), installed Batakang ROM and *#*#4636#*#* (doesn't work at stock JB).. switched to WCDMA only..
Didn't have any disconnection again!
Re: Restricted access changed
Do you upgrade to JB?
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
Yep but it worked great a few weeks!
is a problem with the quality of the phone network, to me was the same but only in places where the signal was not good, it is a problem of the radio that comes with JB
if we get root.. is it possible to change radio?
Re: Restricted access changed
I think thats a boot loader thing? But if flashing via recovery can then yes.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
Even with the locked bootloader?
Re: Restricted access changed
That I highly doubt
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
I think this is not network fault..
I think that it happens only when the phone gets hot and the 3G is in use.. It won't happen while I'm at wifi
Thanks Dan to root my phone! It is finally working perfectly now
did I miss something, can you all say if it's the phone or network. Have a dual sim Huawei G500 works fine if both slots uses the same network. But once the other network is introduce, problems!!!

Hi, what i did to solve this is installing phone info and with it i can choose the network type. for some reasons when 4g signal isn't good enough it gives that error so i switch to gsm only and i never get that error in my house wich is mainly where it happens.
hope this helps you.

*UPDATED* [ZIP] All in One LTE Enabler, Flash ONE zip, and have BAND 4 LTE on any ROM

App now available with the same functionality a zips below!
More info about app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607221
Changelog:
12/7/2013: Updated zip for 4.4.1 Using cg87 98-33 and 98-27 hybrid modems . Updated script to try to prevent duplicate build.prop entries.
8/9/2013: Updated zip to remove the installation of the older outdated snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3 audio file. This is not needed with the hybrid modem.
7/26/2013:
Updated to morrislee awesome hybrid radios. Works on 4.3 and 4.2! LTE awesomeness, and still has all the newer features (power management, audio on T-Mobile, etc.) from the newer radios.
What is it?:
I have created a AIO ZIP that can be flashed on your phones recovery and will enable lte.
It flashes the awesome.33/84 hybrid (or .27/84 depending on zip) radio/modem by morrislee, fixes audio by overwriting the necessary file, and automatically updates your build.prop with the needed changes.
ALSO this zip will put 2 CM Backup scripts in /system/addon.d , now if your phone supports CM Update scripts (CM of course,Carbon as well, and im sure alot more ROMS) you will only have to flash this ZIP once, it will automatically backup/restore the needed files and make the changes to enable LTE on each ROM Update, just like it currently does for GAPPS.
.27/98 radio and .33/98 hybrid modem bundles available for download above. Recommended for KitKat users.
.27/84 and .33/84 hybrid modems are recommended for jellybean users . Also available at above link
Manually: (Depending on ROM)
You might have to manually enable LTE either in Settings-->Wireless &Networks More.. --> Mobile networks --> Change network mode to "LTE /GSM/WCDMA" (CM10 automatically did this for me)
If that's not an option and LTE isn't enabled, dial *#*#4636#*#* and Tap WCDMA from under "Set preferred network type". Select "LTE/GSM auto".
Depending on ROM you will either have to select or input LTE APN under Settings--> Wireless &Networks More.. --> Access Point --> (TMobile LTE APN is fast.t-mobile.com , most roms have this included)
FAQ:
Q. What modem should I use .27/84 hybrid or .33/84 hybrid
A. Try them both, see which one you like better. Test speed, battery life and reception with both. Results are different for everyone.
Q. Does this work with AT&T, Vodafone, Rogers etc
A. Flashing this ZIP will enable Band 4 LTE on your nexus 4, T-Mobile uses this in the USA. Check for Band 4 carriers here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Credits to: (make sure to send thanks to all involved!)
XDA user cg87 for 98-33 and 98-27 hybrid modems
XDA user morrislee for putting together the awesome .27 and .33 hybrid .84 modems!
XDA user haze_nme for making the orginal LTE build.prop script.
XDA user efant again for the original cwm-mako-NoAudioFixForTMobileUSA.zip
Anyone else involved in getting LTE working on this device.
Thanks. I will try this out.

Forgive my phone retardedness:
Will this work if I am on stock 4.2.2?
Do i just need to root my phone and install this?

Yes it will work on stock 4.2.2, however you will need to unlock bootloader, and flash a custom recovery , which is needed to flash this.
Works flawlessly. This is just what I was looking for. .33 killed audio on paranoid android, but with this zip it fixes that.

Oh , my bad small error in update script. Going to upload fixed version now. The ZIP does work, and enable LTE fine , but CM Update scripts to keep it alive when you update ROM aren't coping over correctly.
EDIT: Links updated with new version
You should make a quick revert script to place everything the way it was before flashing this script.

To my knowledge there's still no fix for the network location/aGPS issue. I'm on T-mobile and found that it didn't need to do any mods to get tethering working on LTE.

Very nice, thank you both for the prompt responses! I've been using a script for the past couple days rvrrytime I flash a rom, but i gotta restore the script manager app every time. Cuts out a couple steps for me. The script does some extra build prop edits but i think it's just the various network optimizations that have been passed around.
Thanks again, gonna have to flash something for the sake of it!

So..will it stick after reboot on stock ROM or do I need to manually enable it thru *#*#4636#*#*?
Just a quicky,

If you flashed the c6602 version, you won't have LTE. Try the 6603 version. I always like to use the unbranded one from Germany. If you did flash the 6603 version, download the 6606 firmware and only flash the baseband. then type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and in the radio settings make sure it is set to LTE/CDMA/GSM preferred.
