Double letters. - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the phone last week and whenever I am typing be it the lock screen or text messages I get double letters or spaces typed with only one key press. I have tried different keyboards but nothing is working. Anyone else have this problem? I have the SGH-i537.

do you have a case?, I had this issue with an otterbox, removing the built in screen protector fixed it.

Yes. I bought the otterbox for it. Had a hunch it was that. Thanks, I'll try without it later.

Touch screen issues...

So I am wondering if any of the wonderful people here at XDA are experiencing screen issues with the nook color. I have had my unit about a week, and have had numerous episodes of the screen registering touches randomly. This issue is apparently not isolated as there are youtube videos and a B&N support forum thread discussing the matter.
So is anyone out there having any touchscreen craziness? If so are you doing anything about it? Not sure if I should return my unit and get another or wait for some possible firmware update...
As always any wisdom is appreciated!
http://nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen
Says at the top recalibrating will fixes "phantom touches" or inaccurate touches, or not respond to reasonable touches.
Mine was doing the same. I bought a screen protector and so far it hasn't happened.
My screen wasn't having "phantom touches," but at times I would press near the top and bottom edges, it seems to not be very responsive there. For example, pressing the search button in the marketplace that's at the very top right. Or pressing one of the buttons at the bottom menu.
I wiped my device back to factory and then did the latest Auto-Nooter, and started using Go Launcher. Things are much better now it seems. I think it may still happen occasionally though.

Not just the phantom but inaccurate touches which sounds like yours, atm thats all ive seen about fixing screen stuff.
But other threads have been started where others have the same problem on the outer parts of the screen so it could be a Firmware/Hardware problem.

works for me, in that the process completes, but the touchscreen is the same. The sensitivity issue at the edges is universal and very frustrating.

does your keyboard double enter?

Does the keyboard on your color nook double enter characters?
I just spent 10 minutes trying to enter my email address and password to register my device. The same thing happened when I tried to search.
I am about ready to throw the unit in the trash. Are others having similar issues?

Nope. Didn't with the Droid X, Gingerbread, or my normal keyboard, SwiftKeys.
I had this issue. Restart your NC or reset it. This resolved the issue for me both times.

Same here. Just unplug the charger and all will be fine.
I exchanged mine for that reason. The Nook rep. said that it was normal. I protested, but he stood his ground. I then put on a B&N anti glare protector & the screen became unresponsive in the same area that the kbd. was dysfunctional. The Nook rep. exchanged it then. These issues are related in some way. Wacky kbd when charging & reduced touch sensitivity with the protector on. I have heard that the wacky kbd when charging can be traced to a faulty AC adapter, but the other problem was not related to that. I suspect that the touch screen sensitivity is the common factor.
Cheers,
kev

Wow that is a new one, but you guys are right. I pulled it off the charger and the double characters went away.
Thanks!
I have the same problem when using fleaBay purchased non OEM charger with my HTC Desire.
The original HTC charger doesn't do this.
There is many reports like this with touch screen devices.
Mine does double characters when I press the backspace or it will enter the "L" key instead of backspace. It also won't backspace and ill have to press it a few times which then causes the "L" key problem. Using gingerbread kb seems to be only the backspace key ill try un plugging the charger and checking haven't done that yet.
Its a bit sensitive but the screen protector seems to have helped.

I had a keyboard run away this morning. I was typing a long email and the t key hung. I had to shut down the nook. I was using the gingerbread keyboard at the time. Any other keyboard related issues while using the gingerbread keyboard only? I was unplugged at the time.
I had this the first time I used it but it went away after a reset. The touchscreen is funny when the unit is plugged in though. In fact I have to unplug it to unlock it. . Also the corners are particularly unresponsive. Other than this I really like my NC (mostly bc of the devs on here) .

Capacitive buttons do not always respond

Hi guys I'm running into problem that the capacitive buttons sometime do not behave and failed to respond. I have seen a guy on youtube also complaining about the same thing and have it fixed by updating to 1.29. However mine's already on 1.29. Anyone else have the same issue?
Do you use a screen protector that covers the buttons?

Not facing any such issue, however it does require to hit at correct place on the bar. I observed lot of times in initial days I was hitting slightly above the back button

My Xperia S has similar problem... There is point which you need to search and find ( it's easy once u get used to it)
always touch on that pt and the phone should always respond..
I've been trying to get accustomed to swiping through whichever button I need. I put my thumb on the HTC logo (not using any HTCLOGO tweaks), and then swipe over the back or over the home button depending on which I need. It rarely if ever fails this way and it feels pretty slick using a pseudo-gesture to navigate :good:
The only issue with the buttons i'm facing is bringing up the menu on back button long press. Probably works about 75% of the time but that 25% where I inevitably exit the app is frustrating

Yea I do. Is it really the screen protector that is causing the problem tho?

Same. The swiping doesn't work for me sometimes. I'll have to keep tapping and swiping until it finally works. Double tap on the home button is not really a good idea IMO. Sometimes it doesn't register as double tap and brings you back to home.

Yes your screen protector could be causing the problem. There are multiple posts in this thread where people are complaining about their screen protectors (especially the official HTC branded ones) that are causing the capacitive buttons to be considerably less sensitive and problematic.

So myself and a buddy of mine are both having issues with the capacitive buttons as well. We both have screen protectors. I wish someone could confirm if they are having issues even without screen protector. The guy at the tmo store put it on perfectly and I suck at putting these damn protectors on my phone
i am sure this is screen protector problem , i had no screen protector before and i faced none of those problems and now i have one ... its all problematic.
Switching my screen protectors from fosman to amfilm helped me. I'm assuming because the amfilm is thinner than the fosman. It's been about a day since I switched and the back key hasn't failed me once.

I have no screen protector and I am having the same problem although it is worse when a screen protector is on.
I think the button detect area needs to be bigger and the sensitivity needs to go up or they need to respond immediately regardless of whether the app has frozen, especially the home button.

yes, mine is Trickdroid 5.5.1 with ElementalX 0.10, but once I putted my tempered glass protector on, those capacitive buttons not even work at all...

I was having a problem with this as well without a screen protector but I have a tempered protector on it now and it is considerably worse now.
what's funny is that I think the screen's touch sensitivity actually needs to come down for me and the button sensitivity needs to go up.
Maybe there's an app for that.

[Q] One-handed operation Side key panel issue

After the lollipop update, anyone notice that sometimes it auto opens on it's own. I sometimes feel a random vibration like the S pen is being removed.
Is it activated or do u have it set to off and it still pops out

It's activated but randomly pops out without me sliding it to pop out. Just find it odd that it does it on its own and I think the random vibration might have some correlation to that.

I have the same exact problem. My phone randomly vibrates and the side key panel pops out. Have you found a solution to it yet?

Unfortunately I did not. I just accept it as a bug with lollipop. I even tried factory resetting and starting fresh but no dice.

Can you pin a regular note to the lock screen?

I find the ability to pin a screen off memo to the AOD very useful, cause I get quite busy at work and tend to forget to follow up with things, and this kind of forces me to see it. However, screen off memo seems a little finicky in terms of how long it stays up for, making sure my screen is actually locked when I pull out the pen, etc. Sometimes if I have the phone already on and I want to pin a note, I have to lock it, put the pen in, then pull the pen back out just to get screen off memo to activate.
Is there a way to just pin any note I make in samsung notes to the AOD? This would be a lot more usable in many situations.
I also am looking for a solution to this. My scenario is very similar to yours.
The closest option I could find was pinning a note to the home screen.
I am hoping this is just a minor oversight by Samsung and the function may be added in something like "SmartLock"

Activate screen off memo by locking screen while spen is out and double tapping it by spen button pressed.
Always worked for me. No need to reinsert spen.
Neat feature to add multiple screen off memos too.

Ya? I cant get that to work. Two taps doesn't do anything.
I did note that you can change the Note Type in the Notes app. I changed one to a screen off memo but I still cant get it on lock screen :crying:

It one click of the spen button if your spen is already out and you turn off the screen. Make sure the spen is hovering over the screen or it will just try to unlock your phone.

This works. Also, if you already have a pinned note, it can be edited by just tapping the note with the s pen.
