[Q] Wifi and Data disconnecting during deep sleep - HTC Butterfly S

My HTC Butterfly S has been disconnecting from wifi whenever i leave it alone for some time (10~20mins). Whenever i on the screen after such times, i realise that there is ABSOLUTELY no data or wifi connection (only the signal bars icon are in the status bar) and 1 or 2 seconds later, LTE reconnected and then wifi reconnected 1~2 secs later itself too.
I tried sending links from chrome to my phone (using sendtab) during this period and the phone does not receive any notifications, thus confirming the fact that there is no internet connection whenever the phone is in deep sleep.
Oh and 1 more thing : this only happens when wifi is connected, if wifi isnt connected when the phone goes into deep sleep, there is still LTE connection. When wifi is connected and the phone goes into deep sleep, the phone does not default back to LTE or 3g, all forms of connection with the internet are gone, only leaving the cellular connection available.
Anyone having the same problems? Btw phone is bootloader unlocked and rooted, using stock rom.

Check and make sure your power saving mode isn't on

Nope it's not on, and wifi is also set to always on during sleep.

Probably it's how the Rom is built to save battery

Actually, I don't think that power saving mode disables the connection, but sleep mode, that is enabled on my phone in Power option. From description it disables any data transfer during deep sleep. I have MaximusHD rom, can't tell if that option is shown on stock.

Try disabling this option :
WIFI > Advanced > Wifi optimization
This option might be the cause. Also, you might want to tick the Best Wifi Performance to test.
It's natural for android to silently disable data when you're on wifi. It only makes sense to do that.

Change WiFi scanning duration??

I saw a thread about change the duration for WiFi scanning when not connected to WiFi. I know it scans every 30 seconds to see what networks are available for use, i think this will have a huge impact on battery for user that want to keep WiFi enabled all day, which is what i would like to do if there is a fix rather then turning it on when i get home off when on the train and on again when at work and off on the train and on at home
I know draky ROM has this set to like 2 minutes, so is there a way we can change it on Doc 9.6.6 speedmod K13C??
EDIT:
just went in the WiFi setting even after connecting to my home network with full bars and everything works fast, it still seems to scan for networks every 5 seconds. Is there a way to disable the scans? It should only scan when not connected to a network and continue after a network is connected.

Not sure if its clear- Your phone will not scan for WIFI networks if its connected to a WIFI network already. It is not possible to scan while connected unless you explicitly go to WIFI settings and check there- then the phone will scan for you because you are asking it to scan.
On the other hand, you can modify the WIFI ON time using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774507&highlight=wifi+timeout
Hope this helps.
No im in the wifi settings and am for sure connected to my home network and i can see the scanning and the circle come up every 5 seconds. So it is scanning every 5 seconds even after connecting, i think it maybe a bug coz your right there is no reason for scanning to occur when already connected.
I'm not talking about the wifi sleep policy. In darky's ROm he has scanning set to 2 minutes so it will scan for networks every 2 minutes when its not connected to a network, for me i would like to change that to 15 - 30 minutes. I don't need it to connect right away when i get home or at work and find it stupid that it scans every 5 seconds for a network. If i really want wifi that badly i will do a manual scan and connect.
it will always refresh more frequently in the settings to let you know what is available to connect to... as soon as you close settings it will refresh less often.
i highly recommend juice defender... it will automatically turn off your wifi when disconnected for a while and connect it again later on. im pritty sure it checks when u turn the screen on. there are other settings and widgets that come with to control your 3g when its not needed to save battery

Maybe your work network doesn't broadcast ssid? You have to configure the connection manually if that is the case.

[Q] Mobile Data stays on with Wifi

Anybody else experiencing this.. Wifi is on and connected but my 4G-LTE arrows are still showing and flashing as if it was transmitting and receiving.. but my Wifi is on??
I am using Launcher Pro instead of LG Home so I have access to the power widget in the Notification Bar but not the LG Home power controller.
I just installed Power Control Plus and it seems to shut off LTE and 3G when you press the 3G button and can keep it off with or without Wifi on.
I've noticed this. It doesn't bother me due to the fact that I have unlimited data. If it want for that it would bug the **** out of me.

As far as I know, on all the android phones I've had, u have to manually shut off mobile data even when connected to wifi. There are apps that include this option when making "profiles" that get triggered (tasker, CPU tuner) but otherwise I think it stays on unless manually turned off. Maybe its not using mobile data but it appears to stay "on".

On my olds droid the 3G would turn off when I got onto a wifi network. I might just be special. Lol

I have the same issue. It actually goes further, because when I manually turn off mobile data through the Settings menu the data icon still stays on. If I use a tool like Dataswitch the icon goes away, but I never had to do that with any of my other phones.
The other issue with wifi that I'm having is that if I set the Wifi sleep policy to turn off after 15 mins of inactivity it can't reconnect after it turns itself off. So when I start using the phone again it just keeps trying to obtain the IP address of the network without ever succeeding. I've tried this on multiple networks. I have to turn off wifi and then turn it back on. Anybody experience this?
These issues aren't big but they're starting to make me question the quality of the LG Revolution and I may exchange it for the Charge.

I have this issue too, and it is annoying. I'm not worried about exchanging it, because I'm sure this will be addressed in the port of CM7 that TheCubed is working on.

Do issues like these usually get fixed in a port of CM7? Do you think the issue of mobile data staying on when it should be off will get addressed as well?
Any idea when CM7 for the Revolution will be available?

[Q] Slow to latch to wifi? Connect to 3g briefly before wifi.

I have a pretty stock HTC One, and I'm on a particularly sub par data plan, where each 'data session' is rounded up.
I have wifi both at home and at work, good wifi signal and am v close to router etc. I find that if I put the phone into standby and then use it again 5-10 minutes later, it is still connected to wifi, all good. If I leave it for 20-30 minutes, when I wake it, it latches onto the 3g network for a few seconds and then realises there is wifi and connects to that.
I have things like Google+, FB messenger and push mail which I presumed required a constant connection.
Any thoughts on why the wifi appears to be being turned off as it entertains deep sleep?
I can just switch data off when at home or work but I don't want to have to rely on that sort of thing, and the apps that do that for you based on GPS etc aren't that appealing either.
Look in adavanced settings under wifi. Should be able to set it to keep wifi on during sleep

Thanks for the reply. Yup I have that set to always. Seems to happen both on my home and work wifi, despite great signal strength. Sometimes it seems it does happen even if the phone is unused for 5-10 minutes.
I assume this is actually pretty common and most if not all phones do this, you probably wouldn't notice unless you were tracking each connected data session.
I was thinking the phone must do something like, wake, spend x time looking for wifi while simultaneously connecting to 3g, then when wifi is found it is connected to and the 3g connection is dropped. I guess I'd be looking to delay/postpone that connecting to the 3g network for 5 seconds or so to give the wifi time to establish.
Probably nothing I can do really.
I haven't noticed any problem staying connecetd to wifi while sleeping and Ive looked at the notification bar many time before ever unlocking the phone, just to make sure wifi stayed connected as its suppose to and it does. Only see 3g when Ive set it keep wifi on during sleep to only when plugged in and I dont have it plugged in. I also have best wifi performance checked. Dont think that makes much difference though. Im also stock at the moment

Toggle between WiFi and mobile data with tasker

Hello. Does anyone knows how to make a script for tasker which switch mobile data off if WiFi is connected and mobile data back on if there's no WiFi connection? For the last 3 or 4 hours I'm searching for this and can't find nothing.
Also, I want if there's no WiFi network, to switch WiFi off (so mobile data will be turned on).
I managed to do something, but it didn't worked. When I enabled the profiles with WiFi and mobile data both turned on, the mobile data turned off, then WiFi off, then mobile data on and so on, in a loop.
Wouldn't that be redundant? The os already does that.

Thanks for the response. I know that if WiFi is connected, I'm using the internet from it, but mobile data is still active, right? Even if there's no traffic from mobile data, that's still on. Wouldn't that be a source of battery drain?
I set my data to turn off if my phone is connected for 5 minutes to a wifi. Important: set collision handling to 'abort existing task'.
Here you got pictures.
Edit:
if you are further interested in battery savings, you can read my thread "[BATTERY LIFE] How to get up to 7+h of screen-on-time"
This is absolutely redundant and unnecesary, when the phone connects to a wifi, it disables 3g/LTE data connection by itself. When you connect to a wifi you can see how the 3g/H/H+ icon above radio signal dissapears. The radio chip inside this phones can be used in Wifi mode or 3g/4g mode for data connection, but not both at a time. It is technically not possible.

The moment you don't have wifi anylonger, the phone starts a fullburst search for wifi and 3G/4G networks (even if I don't want wifi/data at the moment). and this drains a hell of a lot of battery. then (if you go out e.g.) it finds a 3g/4g-connection which it tries to keep up (drains a lot battery) and in the same time searches for wifi-networks (also drains battery)... very inefficient use of battery
So I deactivate data after 5 mins automatically via tasker and turn it on manually when I need it (could also automate that, but I'm lazy). This way I circumvent all these battery drains
Additionally:
Under normal circumstances I'd also set wifi to "turn off if not connected" (in settings) and "optimize wifi for battery life", but I use a custom stock kernel that has issues with these settings so I need to leave wifi on all day

Umm, ok... But this has nothing to do with what the OP asked, or what I said.
You may try e-robot from play store.
I have a command for that, after wifi disconnects, wait for 30 sec. If still wifi is not connected, automaticcaly disables wifi.
Same as for bluetooth. When i leave my phone in my desk and gone for a while, 60 sec later disable bt.
You can do what ever you want.

Question Wifi <-> Mobile switching?

I have this strange issue that has been with me almost since the beginning. I haven't been able to trace when it happens, but it now seems almost 100% of the time.
I only have WiFi in the house (wifi6, if it matters). If I go out, I only have 4G (I left only 4G and disabled 5G). I have no data until I put the phone into airplane mode and back, or I disable and re-enable mobile data.
Same thing when I go back in the house: no data until I disable and re-enable WiFi.
I've disabled the option for 'always-on mobile data' or similar, it's quite a battery drain if there's no cell signal.
Seems like a very strange bug, I don't have this with any of my other phones.
So you have both WiFi and 4G enabled and they don't switch seamlessly?
Exactly. I always have to restart each one of them, usually by toggling airplane mode. Was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue.
Ok this really is strange. There are 2(!) different toggles to enable data switching between WiFi and 4G, but for me it works flawlessly without them! As soon as I get out of my home WiFi range, 4G kicks in, and when I get in range again, the phone connects to my WiFi...
Hi, i have this problem too but it's not always.
I have a wifi 6 router too.
I also have problems switching from wifi to 4g. Need to toggle airplane mode on/off. 5g deactivated. No wifi 6 here.
I always assumed my vpn is causing problems during the switch to 4g. But hearing others have the same problem i would assume its zenfone problem.
I never had any issues in this area with my ZF8. With the option to have cellular always on I could walk out of my WiFi zone during a video call and no drop or short pause would appear.
With this off the network need a few second to work, and some apps need to be refreshed/restarted to gain connection. Never needed to toggle connection for this to work.
Maybe a reset would be enough or check for updates.
Ah, exactly! It does not necesarily need a network restart, but some apps just lose connection for a while, which can be from a few seconds to >1h. Which is even more weird as the icons are showing full connectivity. I would go out of the house, do stuff, come back later and I would only get the notifications when I'm back inside the house.
Rarely I had the connection drop completely (no signal) when switching, but I haven't noticed this happening since the last update.
