Can't go into D/L mode? - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Brick your phone and can't go into Download Mode? I stumbled across info on USB jigs. Confirmed that they do work on this device. Figured I'd pass this along because it's just a matter of time until someone goes looking for help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402286
Also, I have one I made if you need to borrow it and are in the USA around western Maryland, West Virginia, south-central PA, etc.

He sold it cheaply to me and now he has some program from a carrier and i cannot get an update from samsung, because the carrier has to something to the update and i dont even use that carrier. pleade tell me what i can do.
I dont know if am stupid here or not but help is appriciated;-)

well you should first see what firmware version u have.
and then update it using odin.
As the above person said, ODIN is the way to go! But wait! Do you have any idea about the 3 button recovery modes? If yes good then proceed. If not take a few mins and research on how to get into the 3 button modes such as download mode/ recovery mode etc.. If you're able to get into 3 button modes then proceed else DO NOT! unless you've got warranty or know how to make yourself a JIG cable with resistors (search this forum for that, should be a sticky) .. coz the phone might get bricked!
Also before that search this community/google and ask the guys in the carrier how they update their firmwares.
Hope this info helps!

Att lte hard brick help

qhsusb_dload is all I get. Buttons no work. Doesn't vibe or anything. Soft reset doesn't work. Any help or am I screwed. I flashed overcome 8.9 wiped prior and wiped dalvik after the reboot and black screen since.

I'm really sorry but your device is done. The skyrocket people haven't been able to fix this yet by using a jig or qualcomm tools.
Reading and researching is really important. You can't flash any p73xx rom to the i957, it will brick.
This is exactly why I have tried to get a separate forum for the i957, but that hasn't worked yet.
Hope you are under warranty or that is an expensive mistake.

I did the exact same thing you did. It is very confusing (Well not really, I just did'nt take my time to read). I was exhausted because I was very happy to have my new skyrocket and new lte tab. I researched and researched. I rooted, installed custom rom and kernel on my skyrocket. I then rooted my tablet and it was great. I then installed a custom rom for a 7300 on my i957 and Boom, gone. Luckily I was within my 30 day return policy. Everything in my home is either jailbroken, rooted, homebrewed, w/e. so I have somewhat experience.
But the combination of tiredness, excitedness, and what ever else comes along with getting new gadgets, I didn't pay attention and blew up my tablet.
Even with my experience and never bricking anything before, I bricked my tablet. I took it back to the store and making believe I never even heard about rooting, jailbreaking, homebrewing; the sales people tried starting it up and eventually they couldn't get it to start up. I got a new tablet, I told them I left the tablet charging overnight and left it charging when I went to work, because I forgot to disconnect it. When I got home from work it just didn't turn on.
Eventually they gave me a new tablet and said do not charge it for more than 8 hours. They said I was the first customer to ever return this tablet because it was defective (This tablet is a beast). I told them sure I learned my lesson.
When I went home, I rooted it lol and installed the oc kernel. Remember there are no roms for the 4g model.
Before I went back to the store where I purchased my phone&tablet, I found that there is a youtube store that fixes bricked phones and tablets (He has videos of him fixing them) but when I emailed him, he said their program does not support in unbricking the lte tablet. This was about a month ago so you can check to see if they support it now. I think to unbrick phones it was like 50-100 dollars (I forgot)
You are not alone, I made the same dumb mistake. Never do important stuff when you are tired or excited or anxious. Sorry man, good luck.
I may have put this in the wrong area it was late last night and I was frustrated. I tried putting a 7300 ROM on a 7300. I didn't try anything fancy lol. But I appreciate the responsses. You think I'll be able to take it back and see what they can do? Maybe they'll exchange it as if it was a defect? I'll take it there today. See if they will exchange.lesson learned for me. Lesson being wait for updates from Samsung. As slow as they are. Lol thanks for the input if anyone has the capability to fix this
Hit me up.

A 7300 rom on a 7300 should only soft brick. Can you get into download or recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
If you try to turn on your tablet and your screen turns on you can try to install the stock rom through odin again and it will work. There is a thread in this forums that explains how. If it is off and you turn it on and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens and it just stays with the black screen, no vibration or anything then it is hard bricked.
If it is hard bricked you can try to take it back and act dumb, not sure how long ago you purchased the tablet. If you are still within the 30 days you should be good because the sales people I took my tablet to did not have the machine to see how many times my device was flashed. If you are outside the 30 days they will tell you to send it to a samsung repair dealer (which I think they will see how many times the device has been flashed). Once you rooted your tablet it voids the warranty and they either do not have to fix it or will charge you an amount equal to your tablet. I did hear of cases where people with rooted tablets just returned it and they fixed it for free. I guess it dpeneds on anything else in life (How lucky are you?)
Yes you did put your question on the right place since this is for all the 8.9 tablets. (Thats the problem I came across with, I wish they make two forums for both tablets because they are in fact different.
Posting from my mobile so I didn't read your post again.
It is extremely rare but sometimes this can happen. Did you have repartition checked in Odin? If so that's bad.
There is something called qpst - qualcomm product support tools - that people are trying to get to work to fix hard bricks.

No prob man. I'll look that up. I'm gonna seems it in to Samsung see if they can fix it. It's under warranty. Anyone done this before?

Can't access download mode by any combination of button presses.
Don't seem to find any difference between download mode and recovery mode
Can't find any proof Kies 2.x ever even existed (and Kies for my other Samsung phone (Galaxy S Blaze 4g) is "too new" for Exhibit II),
"One Click Unbrick" needs download mode? How's that work if the problem I'm trying to solve using it is not being able to access download mode?
Trying to flash from "Firmware upgrade failed" screen anyways (as directed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226089#post17487348) using Odin Multi Downloader v4.43 as directed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20394682#post20394682 also not working
Can't think of anything else searching has told me to try, but clearly missing something and need help.
Make a USB jig to access download mode when other options fail. If USB jig "dongle" doesn't work then I have no idea.

"Make" a dongle?? That may be just a little beyond my skillset.
Honestly its not that hard to do, the hardest part is all the cutting. You can get around the soldering by making it two peices, the dongle that goes into the phone, then the resistors, just make sure you insulate them. Or if you dont want to bother doing that you can buy one on Amazon for about 3 - 5 bucks.

Soldering or not, wires and resistors = hard to do.
Sadly though, this seemingly being my only resort, could I ask for help selecting the correct piece from amazon?

No luck with jig, phone comes on right to the upgrade fail screen, no amount of ****ing with it seems to get me back to download mode.
Well there goes nearly 200 bucks, that's what I get for eBaying it and skipping the 3rd party warranty -.-
I've got the phone for sale now on eBay "as is," if anyone wants it
Edit for Clarification: Original "Samsung Exhibit," not "Exhibit II/Galaxy Exhibit"

USB jig

After a conversation with AD last night, I am pretty sure my Exhibit is "semi-hard" bricked. It will power up after you remove the battery, but not go into recovery. After reading a little, I have discovered a tool called a "USB jig" which will force a device behaving in this way into recovery mode. It can then be recovered via ODIN. Has anyone used a USB jig on our phone? The phones listed as compatible don't include the Exhibit, but often the Exhibit is not included on lists of devices, even when it's compatible. So, I was asking if anyone here has experience with a USB jig. If so, what was your experience and how did it go? I will need to get ODIN and learn to use it, as the second part of bringing my phone back from the dead. Thanks for your help.
About the jig i read a long time ago because some soft brick fear but was never used by me, its basically a small resistence circuit that somebody with electronic knowledge can do. Easely you could get one in ebay. So im almost sure it could work with the galaxy exhibit (because is simillar to galaxy W).
About Odin, the instructions are in the las thread (... not good thread). Download the file. Unzip anywhere you like in the PC. read the instructions. Read again. Then do it. Its easy because it was/is the main way to write stock firmware in samsung any devices.
Yes the USB jig works on this phone. I had need of it once and made my own, it was rather easy and very useful.

That is awesome to hear! It looks simple enough to build one. Too bad I'm not in grad school, anymore, where there was an electronics building station in the lab. I will have to see if I can get all the components together to make one, as buying off ebay will take a few days and be annoying. Unless someone here has one I can borrow.....
Added note: bought a jig off ebay for 99 cents. Hopefully, it will work. Now, I just wait....

Is It Possible To Unroot Nexus 6 and Lock the Bootloader without a pc?

I spent two hours with "AT&T CUSTOMER SERVICE" Wednesday night trying to get them to activate a brand new sim card I had them mail to me in November 2014. So if anything ever happened to my Nexus 6, like the charging port being so loose, that I had to have a wireless charging pad two days shipped to me, because my Nexus 6 wouldn't accept a charge anthing cable or chargers. I tried over a dozen. Two hours and they were unsuccessful. They have my att. net email account wrong that I have had for almost 6 years wrong. So she couldn't email me the pin verification. I spent four hours yesterday at a friend's house using their cell phone, landline and computer, had my real att. net email address open and went through four different agents that for one reason or another could not get that sim card verified or the last guy said "he wasn't going to risk his job and my security, (lol), and activate my sim card when my sim card number isn't even close to the number the same unused brand new sim card AT&T sent me in November, so I could switch back to my Samsung Galaxy S4.
I got the same girl that tried to help me by using her cell, her new Samsung tablet for the first two hours with customer service drive me to another an AT&T Store, a 60 MILE ROUND TRIP. I walked in told the manager about the six hours of the frustrating unsuccessful attempts to get this S4 activated. He took the back off, popped the battery out, scanned the IMEI, put the battery in it, put the back on and handed it back to me in about two minutes and powered it up and said that it should work now. It did. I told him that I bet you could train two monkeys to activate sim cards, it's not THAT complicated. I used to switch cells back and forth all the time years ago on Verizon. Why doesn't AT&T have a set up like that? That works?
I need to send it back to Motorola, so they can send me a brand NEW Nexus 6, instead of AT&T sending me a refurbished replacement that I am paying $750.00 for? A cell that now sells for less than half what I am paying for this one.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any help or answers in advance.
From what I have read you can't flash a zip of the factory image and make TWRP and SuperSU and Busybox without being able to connect Nexus 6 to a computer using a usb cord.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
nope. the only real way to "unroot" is to flash a factory image, make sure that you boot, then lock your bootloader.
Wonderful! Lol. Thanks for the reading all that and the lightning speed response.

no problem. most of what you wrote even has nothing to do with the issue anyways. or just brought in details leading you to this point
So, I take Motorola will flip out when I send this cell that AT&T was told by Motorola that the first shipments of AT&T Nexus, 6's were defective from the factory. Of course AT&T did not tell their customers that they were notified by Motorola.
