[Q] Question about stock firmware and stock kernel downloaded from Samsung Updates - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I am new to the forum, I've recently got a Samsung S4 I9505 originally from Optus. It was installed with the Optus version of 4.1.2 firmware. But I recently downloaded the latest 4.2.2 stock XSA Australia stock firmware from the firmwares archive from samsung updates. It comes in two part. The main rom firmware and the kernel.
I did a wipe factory data and reset via holding Home + Power + Volume up button, then I wiped the cache partition, however I got an error then the phone reboot. Nevertheless, I boot the phone into download mode by holding home + power + volume down button, and installed the XSA firmware 4.2.2 successfully.
What do I do with the kernel file? Do I install it the same way as the stock firmware?
Another question I have is that where can I find rom specific for my model for clockworkmod or Nandroid restore kernel flash? or It doesn't exist yet?
I've purchased the rom manager pro, it says I've clockworkmod and TWRP recovery rom installed, but they are not compatible. I've never downloaded any rom onto my phone with the rom manager. I am not sure why it says I have them in my phone, and I cant do anything with them. So I wasted money buying the app... stupid me. should had checked the compatibility with my phone before I purchase.
Any help with my questions above would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.:good:

[Q] OTA Update Problem Australia

Hey people, I live in Australia and I just got the message to update my system, so I downloaded it and it just crashed and said it didn't work...
I have tried to find the OTA Update online but I can't find anything relating to 2.24.980.3 ( 418.68mb )
Currently running the Stock 4.1.2 version of Android, with Sense 5, I had tired to install 4.3 Google Play edition but then the phone would not let me access any data on it via the pc so I used my backup and recovered to the stock version.
Recovery : ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.3.2
What can I do to install the system update ?
Factory reset from the fast boot screen
Phone off press and hold the vol up and then press and release the power button
use the vol down to scroll to factory reset - power to action, after its done reboot and retry - it is quite common tbo
Make sure you save all the important stuff on the phone first of course

You need to flash the stock recovery..... OTA's can not be installed with custom recoveries.

[Q] Noob thread - Phone stuck in boot (need help)

Hi All,
My phone locked up this evening for no particular reason. When I rebooted it, I got stuck at a slow flashing Samsung Logo screen.
After scouring threads and web pages for several hours I am stuck!
I can get to the download screen to install a custom ROM and also to to the system recovery menu.
I cleared the cache and also performed a factory reset, but no help.
I have no ROM backups
I suspect I need a clean firmware but don't have a clue where to start or which ROM to install.
Can anyone help me with VERY simple noob friendly instructions for installing a new ROM from scratch? Happy to read through linked content.
Can anyone suggest which new ROM is best for the device? It needs to be clean and stable. I am totally OK with stock ROMs.
Thanks so much in advance guys! Thanks for your patience with a complete noob.
Would need more details..
Such as what version of Android your phone was on?
Was it rooted? Any custom recovery installed?
If a custom recovery is installed boot to it and then do a factory reset and clearing the cache..
Or you can download the Stock Firmware in a Zip File and flash it via Odin.
For Stock Files, search here or google it and download the firmware according to your region.
And for Odin : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...08-2013-odin-3-09-odin-1-85-versions-t2189539
enter stock recovery(press Volume UP + HOME + Power at the same time for 5 seconds) and a menu will show up...use Volume keys to navigate in that menu..with Power button you select an option...
select Wipe Data/Factory Reset - and scroll down to yes and select it..
Wipe Cache Parition - do the same..
then reboot....
if doesn't work...provide me some info like country where do you live and your mobile operator and i will give you a firmware to flash with odin and how to...
The most important question here would be was it rooted? If you are rooted and have custom recovery installed you can wipe data there and flash any rom of your choice (head over to the development thread).
If your device are not rooted, I afraid you'll have to use odin to flash stock firmware. Head over to sammobile site to download firmware for your country.

I9001 bricked/soft-bricked, please help

Hi!
Today i wanted to update my firmware just because Samsung Kies asked me if i wanted to. I couldn't have been more wrong when i chose to update.
The update froze at 3% and after a lot of time i unplugged the phone and ended up with a brick instead of a phone.
If i try to turn it on, i get a black screen with a "phone--!--pc" picture. I can enter Download Mode by pressing VolumeDown + HomeButton + PowerButton and i get an android logo with ''Downloading... Do not turn off target'' written under it.
My phone was never rooted, nor updated ( it remained with its out-of-the-factory OS and everything ).
For the past 6 hours i've been trying to use Odin v4.43 along with AriesVE.ops (the one from the well-known WORKED2 archive) to try and get recovery-clockwork to work.
So my questions are:
Given the fact that my phone was not rooted, how can i get my GT-I9001 to work again? Is this even possible?
Can i first root it in its condition, then flash a custom rom like cyanogenmod? Or do i need to install a stock rom and then try a custom one?
What other options do i have?
Everything i've tried so far with Odin froze while downloading and i have no other solution to this problem. Please help!

Yes it is possible as long as your device boots into Download mode.
No you can't root it in its current condition.
You need to download a stock firmware, flash it using Odin or Heimdall (recommended), then root it and finally install a custom ROM if you want.

Thank you for answering!
I fixed the issue. Tried different usb port along with a different version of CWM (5.5.0.4) which I installed with Odin v4.43. CWM 5.5.0.4 caused a bootloop, but i used it only to install CWM 6.0.4.9 from external_sd, so the bootloop problem was gone. Then flashed CyanogenMod 11 and now works like a charm !
I attached an archive with CWM 5.5.0.4, AriesVE.ops and Odin v4.43, so that anyone having my problem can solve it the way i did. But keep in mind that this version of CWM *may* cause a bootloop, so prior to installing it, you should have a working version of CWM on your external_sd. Use CWM 5.5.0.4 to install the better version of CWM from your external_sd. Also, whatever you do is at your own risk!

Yes it does..... I dont think there is a way around it.... as i work with a lot of phones on a daily basis... i need to be quick with things... cant flash roms specially when you are doing remote imei repairs and such....
no need do remote emei repaire it cost $ , just root and write certificate
The only issue is that the certificates get blacklisted... you need private cert files
How is the modem? Is it sticking without issue?
Hey, guys. Just rooted G900W8. lollipop, build LRX21T.G900W8VLU1BOC2.
Used this guide with one remark.
http://galaxys5root.com/galaxy-s5-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s5/
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After I did everything, I had what some other people had, there was no Philztouch:
"i had try that way…the menu still shown
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from externel storage
wipe data / factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
then i try push ….. apply update from externel storage…the next error happened
Finding update package …
Opening update package …
Verifiyng update package …
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, the answer is in the comments too -
"A reply to this problem has been posted MANY times. Take the back off your phone and flash Philztouch with Odin. Get ready to pull the battery IMMEDIATELY you see the green PASS! on Odin – I did it by having my fingernail hooked into the battery slot while the phone was downloading the file, and pulling the battery the second I saw the PASS! (yes, the phone was still connected to the PC with the cable). I counted to 20, replaced the battery, and booted straight into recovery – (Vol Up, Power and Home pressed all together). Philztouch recovery came up. "
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, here's scary part. I un-ticked Auto-reset and factory reset boxes in Odin, flashed Philztouch, and Odin stuck on RESET state, phone was still in downloading state! Well, after couple minutes I had no choice but to pull battery.
Put battery back in, tried to boot into recovery...and bingo! It was Philztouch! Now I flashed SuperSU, rebooted, at some reason I had no warnings, triangles whatsoever! Another funny thing - SuperSU didn't promt me to disable Knox automatically at some reason. I downloaded Titanium Backup, and freezed Knox along with millions of other bloatware programs.
Phone originally was Canada, Fido, I unlocked it after rooting, purchased code for $15.
Hope this helps.
I am on lollipop 5.1.1 Will this still work
Hi,
I have Roger's unlocked Galaxy S5 G900W8. I have installed custom rom on it and now I want to revert back to stock rom.
Will flashing Roger's stock rom lock my phone again?
P S: I don't live in Canada so if Roger's rom changes my modem settings then I will be unable to use my Sim.

i9305 (soft) bricked after twrp OTA flash

Hi guys, I did a terrible mistake.
Currently I was using my S3 i9305 with AICP 10. To update with the OTA they require TWRP and I thought, why not changing from CWM 6.0.4.7 to the most recent TWRP so that the update process will go fully automatic.
I downloaded the App, but didn't make a Nandroid backup before. Then I installed the proposed TWRP version for my phone. After that the Phone restarted and was stuck at the samsung-logo - restarting every 5 seconds.
So what do I have now?
I have a phone that goes until the bootanimation of ACIP. But then it is looping. ... for hours. I can go into download mode and I already got access to TWRP or CWM - I can install both with Odin v3.09
After researching for more than 4 hours I may kindly ask for your help.
What can I do to get my phone back on? I don't care about the data on the phone. (I already copied the internal SD to my computer).
I tried to reinstall the AICP 10 + Gapps, but that did not work.
Is there anybody out there who is able to help the stupid me?
Thank you very much in advance.
Greetings
Peter
Solved - Installed the Original Samsung FIrmware from Sammobile - then went back to TWRP and then to my ROM.
