[Q] (Q) HELP, HTC one, black screen, both buttons flashing - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I really need help with my HTC one,
I came back to it while it was charging, and the screen was on displaying dialog box saying that the phone will restart in one second. I barely had time to read the text but the phone went to a full black screen with both the back button and the home button flashing. Now these two buttons are constantly flashing even though I'm not holding any of the volume or power buttons down.
So both buttons have been flashing for over an hour now and they keep going. I've tried holding down the power button nothing happens. I tried holding down the volume keys nothing happens. Power and volume down...nothing.
I need some help thanks

Sounds maybe like a hardware problem? Try holding down power button while holding the phone directly under a bright light for around 30secs. If that doesn't work try power and volume down together, again under a bright light until your bootloader screen appears.

Bright light helped,
Power button managed to get the HTC quietly brilliant screen, but then goes to black screen and back to that htc screen again and again...
Power and volume down gets me to bootloader screen but within a few seconds I get back to the same looping htc screen...

Wait a minute...
Got passed that screen, saw my wallpaper, then it booted again...and again, and again...
Would it be because I was too anxious and went to the bootloader screen too many times?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Every time I go to the bootloader screen, I barely have time to do anything before I get back to the looping htc screen.
Now, for some reason, I got a screen with an exclamation mark in a triangle over a phone, stayed on for about two minutes, then back into the looping htc quietly brilliant screen...

Are you running everything stock? Recovery, unrooted, etc?
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Stock, not rooted,
How would I know if I'm in recovery...? So most likely I would guess that I wasn't, unless I am now since fiddling around the bootloader screen (like I said, on that screen I have about two seconds where I can move up or down but then I don't have time to select an option and the phone goes to the HTC screen...)

You probably weren't in recovery. Did you get the phone new or used? If your bootloader screen says **LOCKED** at the top of the screen and you got it new, if it were me I'd take it back to where I got it.
Sorry I can't help more, maybe someone else can help if they've seen this before..
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Got it new, says locked on top of the bootloader screen.
Factory reset at that point?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Don't ask me how but now I'm passed the booting screen and can use the phone.
BUT, both buttons are flashing...
Also, can't restart...holding the power button down won't do anything
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Like I said, if it were me I'd take it back for repair/replacement. That's not normal - especially for a device that's completely stock.

i'd try a factory reset if you can boot it.. if this does not help send it in for warranty.

How did you end up getting this fixed. I'm just getting this same problem and I have no clue how to fix it.

My phone will not completely shut off!

When I shut down my phone, the screen will go black and it will vibrate like normal. Last I checked the vibrate was to confirm that it was completely shut off. Instead, the four touch sensitive buttons will light up and stay lit until I turn the phone back on or, of course, pull the battery. This is also keeping me from entering download mode. A few days ago the phone was shutting down correctly and I have been able to enter download mode, but now the problem is going on again. I'm on official 2.2 Froyo updated through kies mini. My phone is rooted, but this problem occurred before I rooted.

Sounds like a warranty replacement.
I've had it for over a year. I wonder why it's just now doing this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I think I have come to a conclusion on why it doesn't seem to shut down completely and would need someone with a captivate that has all fully functional buttons. I believe that since my power button sticks, when the phone vibrates to confirm a shutdown, the capacitive touch button lights will not shut off until the power button is released. So if someone wouldn't mind shutting their phone off while holding the power button and tell me if you can make the lights come on after the vibrate while holding power button? Thanks in advance.

Froze at install screen

Just recently flashed trickdroid, got through the entire install then it froze after it was complete. My device says it has been installed and ready for use but hitting next does nothing.....tried holding power with power down and up (just for fun), phone still will not reboot...any suggestions would be helpful... dont really want to wait for my phone to die to use again, was sitting at 80%..

If it was complete then all you need to do is reboot. Hold the power button for 10 seconds, if that doesn't work hold the power button with volume down and boot in to recovery. Also no need to open a thread for it, just ask in the trickdroid thread :highfive:

Hold the phone under bright light and then try holding the power button

good idea...maybe sing "this is the end" by the Doors...:highfive:
That's not a joke, presumably HTC put something like a safety so your phone doesn't turn off in your pocket. So in a dim room the hold power button to restart the phone might not work, hence the bright light trick

[Q] Lock Phone - Can't Use Buttons & Wake It Up Again

So for some reason, randomly, I will lock my phone and not be able to unlock it or get the screen to come back on.
So I will lock my phone - come back - screen will be off - can't press any keys (home, power, volume) and get a response. Notifications and stuff still happens. I have to hold the power button in which the screen flashes (a line shoots across the screen, disappears and then Galaxy Note 3 shows up).
any recomendations?
That's not even close to right. I would be taking it back to where I bought it.

This must be a software issue. I've had this happen to me as well. Only once in the last two weeks. Seemed to happen when locking and unlocking repetitively.

Yeah, sometimes it wont happen for a long time. Sometimes it will happen repeatedly.
I dont know if related, by Knox keeps saying something about software trying to access information every time I reboot. I have no idea WHAT app its talking about because it doesnt freakin tell me.
Happened once and can assure you its a software issue. If it continues to be a problem I would recommend a factory reset.

Well...this is a problem.

Looks like my m8 is soft bricked. Everything was fine, rooted, romd, s-off all went smooth. Then I installed xposed and my phone refuses to boot, even when i try to put it into recovery it bugs out and turns off. I suspect an Ruu could fix but we dont have one yet. As a warning to everyone, stay away from exposed for now.
Once xposed is installed, it creates a zip on your internal sd to disable xposed. Flash it.

Sense 6 toolbox. Funny thing I'm noticing, it only happened once I got over 90% battery. I'm gonna see if I can get it down and if it leads anywhere

When I got stuck, i pressed power button and volume up. When the screen turned off, i pressed volume down. That put me into bootloader on the first try.

Tried that...would not work
When I was stuck the screen was already off.
Power + vol down did nothing.
Power + vol up did nothing.
Tried the bright light trick ...nothing.
At this point I thought I was bricked haha.
Only thing that worked was Power + vol up and down at the same time.

So I found out today that I can get into the bootloader....the backlight is just off when it's in the bootloader. This thing is all kinds of messed up. Good thing is now I can restore it to stock before I send it to HTC for surgery .

My phone just stopped working(turning on)..

well...this kinda ruined my night yesterday...I went to a concert yesterday around 8 and my phone had 70% and I was checking facebook or something like that and without no notification or warning it froze and turned off on me. I figured it was a normal freeze..and I attempted to turn it back on and nothing happened. Went to my car to try to charge it and nothing. Not even a charging light. A day has passed after the concert was over (could not take pictures, thanks htc..) and now the "dead battery symbol" comes up and the orange light keeps BLINKING..to my understanding it means that it is not charging? What could it be..anybody could help me out .maybe a soft reset? no charging it for a couple of minutes?
Anything would help. Thanks..:crying:
Possibly try holding the phone under a light and press the power button?

Mine froze up on me last week during a power cycle. I had to hold the power button about 2 mins (if not longer) before it finally responded and rebooted. I was getting my coat to take it back to the store, holding the power button the entire time, then bang, the white screen with the HTC logo finally appeared.
Not a good feeling ?

Also try holding power and both volume buttons.
I had a random freeze up and that was the only thing that worked...could have been a fluke but it's worth a shot.

+1 for that method. I had a freeze up and that's what I did to get out of it and reboot.

You should be able to hard reset (not factory reset) with just power and volume up, hold for 15 secs. That's how I got out of a broken recovery screen.

Trust me I tried every combination of buttons I could think of lol.
I actually thought it bricked, took me like 5 minutes before it finally booted to bootloader.
