Hey, when I search the forums for bluetooth a2dp I get overloaded with ROM posts.
I really wanted to ask someone here if they use any kind of bluetooth thing to connect to their car and play music.
I've found a couple things thru google, but none got good reviews.

Unless you're willing to pay out the nose for some decent speakers, you're probably better off buying an fm transmitter and using your car speakers.
The problem is there isn't much of a market for what you're wanting, and sometimes its difficult for battery powered speakers to overcome road noise while not destroying sound quality. If you're bent on this notion though, take a look in outdoor wireless speakers. They will most likely not only be cheaper but have more oomph in them than a "car" bluetooth speaker.

Why don't you post what type of car and what type of car radio you have to begin with? Best route to go is to get an addon that is specific to your radio, or buy a new head unit all together that includes BT built in.

I did a search, because I was curious myself on what you could use and I found something on ebay that may be worth looking into.
For the price, you can answer calls and you can stream your music as well from what it says.

I have a 2007 scion tc with the stock radio. The car has a power port, ipod dock and a line in aux port inside the center console. I usually run the line from my phone in the dock to the line in port. I can power a bluetooth receiver from inside my console, so I would really just want a receiver if it sounds good. Fm receivers sound horrible, hoping that a2dp sounds better.

Man I miss my TC, I loved that car..... Anyway, I find the quality is good for being wireless. I guess it could always be better I would rather use a cable, but you cant beat wireless streaming. I like that device pardonmyfreedom posted about, think I will def get one of those.

I would stay away from FM transmitters for streaming music...****ty quality. Often sounds muffled and distorted not to mention inconsistent. Often switching between channels to find the best quality and then five mins it sounds like hell again...
My 2007 Prius has a line-in jack right next to a 12V DC input in the center console. I've tried numerous solutions, figuring that anything I use will be nicely hidden away in the center console. Unfortunately it seems that anything you plug into 12V DC will give you horrendous sound.
I have not gone so far as to find and try out something that is powered off AA batteries, but it would be an interesting test to show whether or not the DC adapter is what's killing sound quality.
For reference, I tried the Nexus One multimedia desktop dock (when I had an N1) and a Belkin unit which I should have known better as anything with the Belkin name on it sucks.
The other issue for me is that even if the sound was crystal clear and perfect, Android 2.1 (and I'm willing to bet 2.2 as well) will not auto-connect to A2DP. Only headset or hands free profiles. So I'd end up spending a minute getting the thing setup before even going anywhere. Too much hassle for anything but a 30+ minute drive.
FWIW, I have the Kensington LiquidAUX Bluetooth Car Kit.

MP3 and music audio sounds pretty clear, though audiophiles will be disappointed. I'm used to listening to internet radio and satellite radio, so audio quality only needs to not hiss and pop for me to be happy. Besides, my car has a boat load of road noise, so no biggie.
Call quality sounds crisp for the incoming portion, as in I can hear the other party loud and clear. Unfortunately, the other party has a hard time hearing me. If you know what the speaker phone gives the other party in terms of call quality, imagine it being SLIGHTLY softer sounding to them. So, I can hear them perfectly fine, but they have a slightly harder time hearing me (compared to me being on speakerphone, and they on regular headset). Being closer to the microphone doesn't improve anything, and I could be 1 foot from the microphone or 5 feet from the microphone. It sounds the same to them regardless. They describe me as sounding muffled. Speakerphone already sounds muffled, and bluetooth with the Kensington sounds softer and still muffled.
The remote is a nifty feature, too. It controls the native audio player for play/pause/fwd/rwd. It also controls Slacker for play/pause/skip. AWESOME! Voice dialing doesn't work (though I hope FroYo fixes this).
Overall, I'm happy with the product and will use it while driving and simply speak a bit louder and slower while on the phone. Maybe FroYo will improve call quality enough to make this a better headset, but at least it's great for bluetooth audio playback.

I have a Arkon car dock. Could I plug in my Liquid AUX in my cig lighter under my arm rest, and just dock my car with my ARKON car dock?
I have the one just like the one from ebay. Very happy with it just a few limitations, the bt has to be connected manually reach time
Pause and play don't work on all apps. Volume had to be down a little on the phone to get it to stop over saturation. But then its clear, loud pauses when in a call (have a plantronics975 for the phone)

It's very good. No difference between it and the line out directly.
I just removed the "calling" part of it so I could keep a bluetooth headset (for calling - plantronics pro) from the bluetooth profile - works perfectly.

Yeah, I got the liquid aux one and disabled the phone part too. I use tasker with it to turn bluetooth on automatically when I pop it into the car mount. I am loving the bluetooth sound, same as line in.

I have the LiquidAUX installed in my Z. For some extra punch, I also installed a Boostaroo between the LiquidAUX and my Sat Input. I think the audio quality is quite good. However, My ears aint what they used to be, and I do have a really nice BOSE system in the Z, so those two factors have to be considered.
The LiquidAUX connects to my DInc as soon as I start the car, so it seems well integrated. The only manual step I have is to launch Slacker, which I listen to exclusively.
One thing that needs to be fixed is, when I initiate a call via bluetooth, Slacker is not automatically muted, so the music really screws up the voice recognition. I have to pause Slacker before I initiate the call. I'm sure this will be fixed at some point, seeing how voice dialing just started working with 2.2.
All in all, I'm pretty please with how this setup works, and I have no issues with audio quality.
I always had my HTC Tilt 2 playing music in my car through bluetooth. Now with my new HD7 I noticed the sound quality is very bad. It sounds like its streams at a low bit rate so all the high frequencies create crackling distorted. Overall sound doesn't have any richness to it. I think they need to fix this pronto.
Yeh I have the same problem too, its exactly the same if I use 3.5mm jack aux too, just far too quiet, causes so much distortion, neither bluetooth or 3.5mm sound any better. If you put headphones in you can tell there isnt enough volume at all.
Really needs fixing, seems more of a software issues as I've seen people with various WP7 models complaining about low volume.
Right now I'm having to use my old Touch Pro for audio streaming in the car.
Mine sounds great through headphones and car stereo (BT).
In the car I prefer the sound to my iPhone 3GS through BT and line out.
And the volume is loud enough using Ultimate Ears 5vi IEMs with plenty if bass

Sound quality is always in the ear of the beholder, so difficult to fully compare what people consider good or bad.
I find the internal speaker, headphones and line-out (via 3.5mm) too quiet. Quality seems ok from the 3.5mm jack though.
But I tested the BT recently and at high volume it didn't sound very good on a beefy car stereo (with sub). I was disappointed, but had no basis for comparison at the time.
I have this issue too. I'm using the Sony DRBT140Q. The audio sounds perfect when connected to my G1 and Sennheiser BTD-300. But when connected to the HD7 the sound turns kind of...fuzzy on the mids. Gonna go try out other HD7s at the T-mobile store and see if it's a problem with my handset.
I also have this issue. With wired headphones the sound is OK, but with bluetooth audio the sound is bad. I tested it with a jabra BT3030 and with a SonyEricsson MW600. The sound is good with both Headsets when they are connected to my notebook.
HTC are not known for good blutooth support, I was hoping they would get their act together with this phone.
3.5 jack is fine, but bluetooth quality is aweful! was fine on the HD2.
On BT, the bass and mids are ok, but the highs are terrible, they are really crackly/distorted. You can get away with it on dance, because its not too noticable, but in Rock music, it just sounds ****e.

If you have the phoned paired via Bluetooth Sound Enhancer makes no difference to the sound whatsoever. Even if connecting to 3.5mm and using sound enhancer it sounds terrible in my car.
Think I'm just gonna have to carry on using my Touch Pro 2 until something is changed with the volume. I just think there isnt enough, you have it too loud its distorted so you turn it down and then turn the radio up but its no better because you get a lot of hiss etc.
If your listening though AUX make sure all the sound enhancements are off, they make it sound terrible. They only make an improvement through the phone speaker.
They dont affect bluetooth at all though.
So is anyone going to fix this?

I have the same problem. Bad quality when streaming via bluetooth to my car radio. With my HD2 and Windows Mobile 6.5 I had exactly the same problem for which there were registry hacks to improve this. Do you think the same registry entries still exist on Windows Phone 7?
Bluetooth audio quality FIXED!!
Ok guys here it is. I figured out how to improve the Bluetooth music streaming quality.
1. Your device must be unlock to do this. Even if your device relocks it doesn’t matter.
2. After unlocking device download and install the XAP file RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0. This is a registry Editor for WP7.
3. Once you have the RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0. on your phone do the following registry hack:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2 DP\Settings]
"Bit Pool"= change Value data to 51.
As I suspected the problem was in the sample rate settings. After I did the hack it sounded beautiful and at full sample rate. Some people don’t have the ear to catch the difference. I like to think I have a very good ear for this sort of thing. Being a musician and aspiring sound designer. I listen to all my music in the car through Bluetooth stereo gateway so I rely on this Bluetooth functionality 100%. Here is an example of the “Value data” number translated to sample rate.
Medium Quality
Bit Pool=35, Sample Rate=44.1 kHz = 229 kb/s
Bit Pool=33, Sample Rate=48 kHz = 237 kb/s
High Quality
Bit Pool=53, Sample Rate=44.1 kHz = 328 kb/s
Bit Pool=51, Sample Rate=48 kHz = 345 kb/s
Last Note: Even if you cannot unlock your phone anymore it won’t matter. As long as you gain access to that registry and change it. Unless you do a hard reset or Windows update you will need to repeat the process or unless Microsoft slaps their head about this issue before they release that update.

Just need a reg hack that allows me to download big files from the marketplace through my own 3G signal and not wifi now and ill be very very happy!
Also set "UseJointStereo" to 0 since one of the common joint stereo algorithm uses a lossy audio compression. BT Music sounds great with these changes!

Thanks for this fix! I finally got my Verizon Trophy fixed after
1. Trying to deploy RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0 only to get a deployment error
2. Trying to deploy RegistryEditor 1.2.0.0 only to get a deployment error
3. Editing the XML file in RegistryEditor 1.2.0.0, which successfully deployed the .xap but wouldn't actually let me edit the necessary values BitPool and UseJointStereo. I could change them in the editor, but as soon as I navigated away from the editor they would return to their defaults.
4. Attempted this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963 only to be unable to run Connection Setup app
5. Completed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963&page=64 after about 10 iterations of trying to open the Connection Setup app at the exact moment described. I didn't think it would work, but it did.
So, in summary, in order to install a registry editor (1.2.0.0) AND have it edit the BitPool and UseJointStereo values on my student developer unlocked Verizon Trophy running official mango update, I had to do an interop unlock.
Took me a few days to sort through, but I'm so unbelievably happy with the result!

Recently got a bluetooth FM transmitter so i can go hands free in the car and use phones music player too
However the audio is very heavily compressed when using A2DP - no bass and the top end frequencies turn to mush - ie not good enough to use
Checked all eq settings and different FM frequencies, no difference
plugged the analogue audio cable direct from the phone to the bluetooth FM transmitter and immediately got perfect sound again
I dont see many poeple talking about this on this forum or many answers but the closest seems to be windows phones can access and modify registry settings to check and increase the bitrate
My current thinking is the bitrate (or bitpool) over bluetooth A2DP is set too low, or when the phone and FM transmitter pair the phone selects a bitrate that's too low for quality audio (but ok for calls)
My question is does anyone know how modify the bitpool settings on the Galaxy S please?
I am going to get a custom ROM and will very happy when the phone is really mine so if that's what it takes I'm up for it

I have the Galaxy S on 3 UK since August. I use the bluetooth to transmit sound to my Samsung surround sound system (as I don't own a stereo). I don't notice significant quality issues doing this. Are you sure both your devices are supporting A2DP. Not all A2DP devices talking nicely with each other, so you may be failing back to the normal Bluetooth frequencies which are more focus of the vocal range. I'm looking a car stereo's right now that support A2DP so I can stream my audio from my phone straight to my stereo, my phone is becoming the centre of my entertainment!!
I'm running Doc's ROM on my phone, can't recommend moving to his Froyo ROM's and an enhanced kernel enough, my phone is working so much better with his ROM, but there are lots out there to choose from.
I am using A2DP in my car too and I find the sound quality being very good.
The thing is, the default Android audio player (Music Player) is pretty poor and often it lags for me.
Since I moved to MiuiMusic (Search here) all those lags are gone and it works perfectly and smoothly in my car.
Now, as pointed already to you, all BT devices do not communicate flawlessly between each other sometimes...

It could be a setting on your bluetooth receiver.
For example, I've got a pair of Sony DR-BT21G bt stereo headphones. When you hold a special button combination, it switches it from "high quality" to "any quality", and will just select whatever bitrate it thinks is best, usually, something that sounds about half as good.
Try looking in your manual for troubleshooting and see if there are any settings that you can change on the receiver itself?

Hmm, i using Sony MW600 BT headphones. I've checked the manual, but there's nothing about quality :/
But i dont think that's the problem anyway, as i tried Cyanogenmod and it got perfect quality then. But otherwise cyanogen is quite useless for me on my Galaxy S, its just too buggy. There must be someone who can change the bitpool quality on the stock gingerbread to the highest possible...
Exact same issue for me (as described by DJ LIBRE), I have a Belkin Wireless Bluetooth Music Receiver and the sound quality is horid... it's got nothing on AirPlay which I think is still kind of average quality!
I also wonder if there is a highbitrate setting that can be adjusted?

After getting used to listening to 24/96 FLAC's with the Voodoo Sound mod enabled with a custom built headphone amp and semi decent can's all I can say is BT Audio is a waste of time!
Has anyone noticed whether the music player was set to 5.1 surround mode? Had a similar issue where turning off the 5.1 fixed the sound streaming...
hello, I did this stuff here Alfa Romeo & Galaxy Tab integrating seamless the tab and my dashboard.
The overall result is very good, except for the audio volume, and being not an audio expert I fear that this is an impedence problem.
To make it very short, I just connected the headphone plug with the inputs of a 50W ("rms", real 50 watts they say, not fake 50w as standard OEM car audio), a kenwood KTP-500 thing. The problem is that the max volume is VERY VERY low in comparison to whatever oem standard ****ty car audio device, and that is quite impossible to me, and also for audio tuning shop owners I enquired for some advice.
So I think I need to convert, somehow, the signal to be good for the amplifier.
The amplifier has got switch between "low gain and high gain" but it does not change that much.
So I've got 2 plans to get an at least "normal" audio volume, amplifying the signal with some kind of "line amplifier", or find a guy (perhaps here? ) who can explain me the setup error, so that I can fix it. Shouln't be that difficult, but I'm ignorant in this stuff, and surprisingly, neither do know the people that works at kenwood/alpine/whateverBlingBling-audio shops in my city.
I also tried to debug my installation connecting a PSP, some other phones, a small television, an old cd player... all with the same low-volume result. So it's not a GalaxyTab (p1000, the good 'ol one, since it's exactly 2din fit) issue, but more general, having knowledge in audio signals may help...
So what is the point with connecting directly an earphone jack to the inputs of an amplifier? It's so amazing after 1 year having the tab as audio unit, it's a shame to have this volume issue è__é thanks for any clue

I have the same problem, the volume is very very low, especially in a telephone conversation using speakers. However the sound quality is excellent. The problem is that you can not have a conversation without a headset ,when youare in a opne place.

So last weekend I finally received this: LINK (EBAY)
I am totally new at Android Auto, though I have had several Andrioid Phones, as well as an Android tablet. Now I have an iPhone SE - so yes, I turned to the dark side. Not important here and now.
My question is - When I had both phone and tablet with android, I remember the many many possibilities I had with rooting etc. What do I have with my Radio? Can I root it? Can it be even better?
The only negative thing I have to say, is that the sound quality via bluetooth is quite poor - especially in the higher notes. The bass however, is still awesome on bluetooth. The sound quality is only bad on bluetooth - which tells me there is something wrong with the bluetooth hardware og the bluetooth software. Very sad to find out - I listen to bluetooth music 90% of the time. That issue let me to thinking: Is there a way to fix it? Maybe a root or something?
Also - are there some must-have-apps I should know about?

I have noticed the same, however it is not related to Bluetooth, the BT quality is fine, the sound quality problem begins when Android Auto is activated. Try using Spotify with the standard BT connectivity. Then test the same song with the USB cable connected and using AA. The sound quality is fully degraded when using AA compared to the BT quality. I Use Viper4Android and the drop in quality is even bigger since Viper4Android doesn't catch the sound stream.
Any idea out there?
By the way, I'd rename the subject of this thread since the sound quality problem is not related to Bluetooth but with Android Auto.

BT is also a digital stream and sound is excellent, even more when paired with Viper4Android. Nonetheless V4A doesn't seem to catch the digital output stream used by AA.
Maybe it's just usb? My thumb drive doesn't sound as good as my Bluetooth with the same song either.
Yea, audio is transmitted via USB, so in theory the quality should be even better since it is transmitted without the SBC compression like with BT (unless you have aptx). If your in-car has a built in equalizer i would advice to use that one

The theory is not working in this case, most probably because we don't know the root cause of this weird and annoying issue.
Car equalizer is not working when there are missing frequencies. BT works perfectly, but when playing the same song, with the same device and app (Spotify, music player, TuneIn) the quality is severely degraded when using AA. No deep bass and no treble. Total loss of both ends of the audible spectrum while BT quality is superb (compared to the crappy AA quality)
I have tested this issue with a Chevy Malibu 2017, Chevy Impala 2017, Ford Fusion 2018, Buick regal 2017 and Hyundai Sonata 2018. Same degradation when using AA with different head units, different apps, Axon 7. I hardly believe it is a device issue, I believe it is a problem with the protocol. Are you experiencing this issue? I am using RR ROM.
