[Q] Volume Doesn't Change with Keys? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

new Xperia Z owner as of today, and I'm encountering a really, really annoying issue with my xperia z from T-Mobile. For some reason when the screen is off and I try changing the volume, it doesn't do anything. If the screen is on I can change the volume, but it doesn't go into effect until I'm back on the homescreen for some reason. (I've only tested this with Spotify) Can someone tell me if this is an issue I should bring up with Spotify? Or is there a fix for this I'm missing? Or should I just use my 14 day return policy? I really love Sony products (My Vita and Vaio are basically glued to my hip) and I always wanted a really nice Xperia smartphone. Any help is extremely appreciated!
EDIT: I should have mentioned that I'm 100% stock. Assume all of my settings are default and I haven't messed with it. I literally installed the app, and added my gmail account lol

Should i buy Xperia Z1 ?(does it still has ghost touch issues?)

Hello, my friend has Xperia Z1 in okay condition, just has few scratches on it's corners, and has no Sony logo( he says it was removed with it's original screen protector)
anyway, he says, that sometimes, when the phone gets little warm, the screen acts little weird, and the keyboard responds to false touches, for example if i press w, it writes z and a , but the problem goes away if he turns the screen off then on . this i think it's the problem that sony has never fixed.
exept from that, the phone is okay, power and volume buttons are still good , it works nice under water, etc
i did little comparision with my current sony xperia sp, and the z1 sound output sounds really choppy compared to xperia sp :/ i wonder if that's normal or no ?
do you recommend buying this phone for 250$ ? and what else do i need to check
i tried the service code, and found that it says, bootloader nlocked NO
it's camera doesn't look good as i heard of, photos come very soft, and i am afraid that it's bootloader unlocked and has no drm keys for the camera enhacements
please help me , and sorry for the long post, i have strong ocd and i ask alot :/
ghost touch effect existits in stock firmware and on cm12 (dunno if im the only one 0_o)
and to the camera, in my opinion the cam is quite good without the enhacements
to the sound, yeah ...in my opinion the speaker is just a big peace of sh** (my xperia j and my memopad hd7 have a better sound, only my xsola have an even more bad loudspeaker) but i can life it (only hear music over headphones with viper audio)
and just for info this device has a quite good performance (get 43k in antutu on candy5) and for my that is reason to buy a device
i would buy it and dont mind the sony logo, the screen is better without the asf (tip: buy a tempered glass protector for it )

[Q] Battery notification

Firstly, I'm an android newbie. So please be patient with me. I've been a longstanding fan of those fruity handsets. But I've seen the light.
Talking about and more importantly power I seem to have lost the notification on my compact z3. It's the feature that tells how long you have until you reach 100% charge. I found these really helpful. I'd like it back. But I'll be damned if I can find the feature to switch it on.
Can you help?
Thanks.
I'm not aware of anything like it built into Sony bundles - looks like an external app from Play Store. So it doesn't seem to me like a feature to switch on in the ROM, but an app to find.

Mine tells me on the lock screen, however, I do not think you can turn it on or off.

I think it's a new feature in 5.0 but since I'm still running 4.4.4 I can't offer any advice.

Xperia X Performance (F8132) Accelerometer failure & Screen Auto-rotate irresponsive

Xperia X Performance (F8132) Accelerometer failure & Screen Auto-rotate irresponsive
Hi All,
I got an issue bothering me since I bought Xperia X Perfomance (F8132) Mid June.
The auto rotate function failed after a while but everything goes fine after reboot.
When it fails, I use "Xperia Service Menu" -> "Service Tests" -> "Accelerometer",
then all X,Y,Z are zero and the ball just sticks and freezes at mid.
I bought from Taiwan and I can find 15 more people having the same symptom with me on 2 forums
( http://mobile01.com and http://gamer.com.tw ).
Hence I don't think it's only me and it's a common issue or common yield problem for Xperia X Perfomance.
I post here because I'd like to find more people with the same issue and raise the attention of SONY in order to find the root cause (i guess it's either over-heat causes this or accelerometer yield issue) and give a patch.
Now I'm using a APP "Rotation Control" to workaround this, but all photos cannot records correct orientation data and no auto-rotate is kinda inconvenient.
For a flag-ship and high-priced cellphone for SONY this year, it is very disappointing to me. :crying:
Version: 35.0.A.1.227 and 35.0.A.1.238 both occur

I also have that problem. No more auto-rotation after a while (1-2 days) . Only a reboot fixes that

Thank you for letting us know.
It shows it's not a regional FW issue but a global HW or FW one.
I wonder if SONY knowing this. If not, we need to address this and push SONY to work it around.
And if it is not workaroundable, SONY will have a big problem.
I have the same issue on my Xperia X (F5121) bought in Sweden. Haven't checked the accelerometer but the behaviour is the same and reboot is only fix.
I have not had any problems with auto rotation, my accelerometer works fine but my touch screen is messed up

Can you specify "messed up"? I've had issues with the touch screen also, mostly that it registers a tap while I'm scrolling resulting in involuntary tapping on links. Also it often takes a while to start scrolling, as if the screen has a hard time recognising the swipe.
I have the same problem. The accelerometer stop working 15 minutes after reboot.
Help me verify if is caused by a third party app or not.
Use your phone in safe mode for a while.
I'm from Hong Kong, the accelerometer and its auto-rotation of my x performance has the same problem that it won't work until i reboot my phone.
I dont think that is caused by a app crashing when the problems occuring in all around the world.
The issue didnt come to me when I was not yet update to 35.0.A.1.282. Please notice this problem SONY. It seriously affected the satisfaction from user of the phone from your brand.
There is a topic on the Sony support forum - see here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-X-Performance/Accelerometer-stops-working/m-p/1158490#U1158490
At least they are aware of the problem. As soon as it happens again on my phone, I will send them my logs. I will report any development...
It seems that I uninstall the AR effects in my phone and reboot, it works again
Rotation fails
Hello guys,
I have the same problem. Yesterday it worked fine, but today, the auto rotate don't work. Very disappointing. Only a reboot can help but not every time.
Sony has to do something with it.
Gyroscope/Auto-Rotation Issue
Hey everyone,
I'm also having this same issue, but only since the most recent update from late September. When trying to make a pic display as fullscreen by rotating the phone, nothing happens, unless I reboot the phone. Then within day or two, it starts happening again. When I go to camera it loads up and STAYS in landscape mode, no matter what I do, even closing it out and clearing out the cache & force stopping it then reactivating it. It seems like a software issue that Sony needs to address PRONTO!
It appears another thread here on XDA is dealing with the same issue. I tried shenlong85's idea and it seems to have fixed the issue, but I need another day or so to make sure. If you don't hear from me by Sunday (10/23), assume it's been fixed. Hopefully the Nougat update we're all about to get any day now will permanently fix it!
The memory uninstall updates only prolong the issues. Seems like the firmware issue earlier on.
Nougat... When are u coming?

Well, we'll see. I am giving my XP 'til Sunday........if no more auto-rotate issues by then, then I will consider your idea to be gold. lol Of course, once we get Nougat, I'm hoping it will ensure that the issue never comes back period. As of this time, the issue has NOT returned.
I bought my Xperia X Performance from Kogan who sells imports in Australia from Asia and I have the exact same issues with my orientation and touchscreen. However my jumpy touchscreen only seems to occur while charging.

I tried shenlong85's idea, but less than 24 hours after trying it, I switched my phone from Portrait to Landscape to view a 16:9 widescreen pic I had in my Album, and it WOULD not auto-rotate the pic. So unfortunately this "trick" doesn't work either.
Just have to hope Sony includes a fix with the Nougat update we're about to get any day now from them.
I'm noticing now too that once the Auto-Rotate function stops working, so does Smart Call Handling. Have to swipe screen once again to take calls. Hurry up Nougat!! lol
I'm having the same issue and the only help I'm getting from Sony support is to factory reset my device :\ I'm hoping Nougat makes it's way to our devices soon. I really like this phone and this is a pretty big issue to have.

I agree Spencer. And yes Sony Mobile told me the same thing. I'll do a repair (which yes, includes a factory reset) only IF Nougat doesn't fix it. They say we're getting it "in or close to October", so I'm guessing it's gotta be coming any day now. Hopefully they include a fix with Nougat though and I don't have to do that. Getting tired of this BS with Sony. My Z3 had an issue where if I turned on Stamina Mode, it would 1) mess with my MMS (group/pic/video) text messages.........you don't know how many times I had to ask ppl to resend those to me and how much that sucked lol 2) Cause a "random" battery drain. Only fix was a factory reset. I FINALLY got wise and realized it was SM and kept it off. Found a great app called 360 Hibernation Master that did what SM was supposed to do but better, MINUS the buggy BS. But OF COURSE it doesn't work on any X series phone (at least not my XP), so I'm stuck with SM now. At least Sony Mobile FINALLY fixed that bug with SM so that's not an issue anymore. lol
It is a big issue, and it makes me not want to keep buying their phones.

Touchscreen slowly dying - worth replacing?

Hi! Sadly as many of Z3C users after 2 years of great usage, my touchscreen stopped responding in navigation bar area. I still used my phone using Pie style navigation buttons. Sadly, today a unresponsive vertical stripe showed up, so i guess my touchscreen is slowly dying. My question is - has anyone had some experience with replacing screen? I read few posts from people that replaced their screen, that after few months the problem showed up again. I'm wondering if it is a common thing, and replacing the screen is unprofitable. Replacement would cost about 1/3 price of new phone, and also i really like z3c. I would love to hear your experience if you have any!
Think mine has done the same after 3 years of usage. I have an unresponsive vertical strip on the far right side of the screen, didnt drop it or get it wet or anything. Very annoying
Would also be interested to hear if anyone got the screen replaced. Really enjoyed using this phone, its been through the wars and this is the first problem Ive had with it.
Same problem here, about 3 weeks ago I couldn't pull down the status bar anymore except on the home screen.
Since this morning, my navbar stoped working, after nearly 3 years of using.
I think its a litte odd that it suddenly stopped working in this particular, critical area (nav bar, status bar).
Hi! Same problem here with navigation bar. I don't know what to think about sony anymore. I have been using since xperia active - xperia go - z3 compact.
I can not remember what was wrong with the active, with the x-go the power button broke and now this... I guess is a matter of time for the vertical issues.I also still have this very old LG p500... still working, not like a charm but does the job. I am a little bit sad, all this time fighting against the desire to unlock the bootloader and now this. Is time for LineageOS or CarbonROM and save some money too for a new... sony? I don´t know
same problem
Same problem here after device just a tad older than warranty period. Giving up on Sony devices and their attitude to customers.

Weird vibration

Do any XZ1C owners also find the vibration of the XZ1C to be quite odd?
I was worried that it might be a hw problem with my unit, but then I went and checked the vibration on a demo unit in store, and found that it was the same.
It sounds sort of high pitched, kind of like a dentist drill, and you can actually hear the progression of the vibrator rpm rapidly increasing initially, which is really funky.
It feels nothing like all the previous phones I've owned (which includes all Sony compacts except for the X compact, so it's definitely not a "Sony signature" so to speak).
I have since gotten used to it, it was very jarring for the first few days, but am still curious if others felt the same... or perhaps it's just erratic behavior of my particular unit (and the store demo unit too, what a coincidence).

Yes, the vibration seemed odd and very strong to me. Z3c vibration is like 3 times weaker and like it more.

It is different from phones I had before, but not necessarily weird.
It takes longer to ramp up but goes really high, compared to my S5 for example.
Mine vibrates weird too.. I had to disable vibration on my keyboard. It feels really strange when I start typing long sentences.
my z1c had it, i did just turn the typevibration of
The vibration is really weird indeed. More importantly, it's slow to start; so it doesn't really work for 'vibrate on tap' functionality of the keyboard. So unfortunately I had to turn the option off as well.

That does actually work for me.
Yeah its slow to ramp up, but when it does, my god does it vibrate. I type using swipe, but at the odd times that I tap to type, it really does feel weird. I don't mind it though.
I like it. It revs up higher and higher when taps are closer together. It's a nice break from the usual. It reminds me a bit of a sportsbike engine. High strung.
Yes but I already knew about it before purchasing it, from online reviews.
But I found out my personal solution: manually minimize timing's vibration.
In SwiftKey settings / typing / sound and vibration / keypress vibration : i set it on 40 ms.
I think it's quirky. Sounds like a revving engine.

I've done this too but the problem is, sometimes the phone lags and the vibration comes all at once and the phone goes nuts lol.

I never experienced lags in this little beast of xperia...
I'm using 22ms vibraton on SwiftKey. Barely noticeable at keypress: perfect for me.

Thanks for this thread, I thought I was going insane.
Here's my case, my XZ1 compact black bought in Denmark have that strange revving vibration, customisation 1310-7097. But... My wife's XZ1c silver from Austria, 1310-9122 cust. vibrates just the old way, in short bursts.
I'm closer to think that it's a firmware related phenomenon than a hardware difference. Meaning, there must be some service command to execute to set the vibrations types. Now, it would be great if some Xperia expert would read this and tell us that secret code.
Hi everyone, I know this is an old thread but this might help.
I have an XZ3 and solved the weird vibration problem disabling the Dynamic Vibration option (Settings > Sound)
