[Q] Handset Heating - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have been using Xperia SP for the past 3 weeks. But since last week, i found that that mobile started getting heated up if i play some games for 5 mins. Also if i switch on camera and keep it running for 5 mins, mobile started heating up. Heat in the sense i can feel the warmth when i hold my phone. Is this normal? Or anything wrong with my handset? Please help me out guys. I have put the flip cover which Sony has given as free product along with the purchase of this mobile. Any kind of reply is very much appreciated. I am really worried cos of this issue in my mobile.

Thanks for the quick reply bro.. I have Updated with the latest firmware dude. Still my mobile is getting heated up. I have seen many reviews and videos before buying this mobile. But none of the reviews specified about this heating thing. If mobile started heating just for 5 mins of gaming, i am wondering how guys are playing high end games and completing it.

Its pretty much something you get used to after a while. Also this will help you getting through the harsh winter !!! The highest temperature that i got was 48 degrees C.Pretty hot i know but you have a powerfull processor and graphics that drain the battery thus increasing its temp.
Use CPU Z https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z to monitor your battery temperature if you like.

So you mean to say this is not actually a big problem to worry about? Or do I need to take my mobile to the service centre for a quick check? Please suggest me.

Can't make any guarantees but it's generally not a problem unless it's getting hot when you're doing nothing. If the device cools to between 20 and 25 degrees once you've stopped activity there's nothing wrong.

ditto,
havent seen a single phone that doesn't get Hot when playing games, especially ones which use the GPU/CPU a lot
on the whole it stays pretty cool under normal use compared to other phones.

Right my friend has a Huawei phone and it was steaming hot today after a game session. Mine top temp was 48.5 C
As said above if cold down afterwards your device is ok.

Dont worry the phone heats when u use graphic intense games.

Thanks a lot guys for your replies! I was actually worried about this heating and thought of approaching the nearby service center. Now i am ok with this! Thanks once again..

It's Tegra
I can get mine to 56°c if I want to, but then it turns off.
So 40° sounds normal to me.

This is normal
Also this issue's thread is very normal too next time just try and search before creating new thread it will help you getting answers without waiting as well as keeping the forum clean.
Now to help you just root your phone and under clock your CPU to 1.2ghz it will help you a lot. I am using "CPU Tweaks app" for the purpose and it works way to good for me.
1.2 ghz is enough even for high end HD games - Tegra 3 is very good with games
"CPU Tweak" Setting :-
CPU: 4 core clocked at 1.2 ghz
gov: OnTheDemand
Mine is always on 50~51 celcius after 10 minutes playing ANY game on ANY brightness setting. Don`t like it, but that`s how it is, every time, with or without a case.
mine too!
I had my tab 2 for months now but lately the battery started heating up. I don't know what caused this. is this normal? what are the factors that can contribute for a battery to heat up upto 40 degrees C. will some of the factors be kernel and rom?

[Q] is it normal for this phobe to get mildly hot while using

especially when browsing and downloading.
I dont think battery is getting hot but its near sim and sd card area
iam using jelly bean
Yes. It is normal
My phone gets a lot hot after playing nfsmw for an hour or so continously.
Yup its normal... not to the point when the phone displays a temperature warning and/or Shuts Down or Reboots....
If you are concerned then there are some apps in Google Play to check your phone's temp....

Comparing playing games to web browsing is like ferrari vs ford. Both of them are cars, but one of them drains your wallet faster.

sorry, I missed to mention, my phone gets heated up even when downloading huge files and browsing net for long hours !
BTW, I really liked your example
It is normal. This device has a temperature control mechanism. So it warns you.
Make sure that you allow it to cool if the warning appears!

My Phone temp. too HOT ??

HEllo Im new here ,, this is a stupid question but I just wanna ask the optimal temp of smartphone because my s advance temp looks kinda hot specially the upper part of the phone ranging from 37 to 41 degrees celcious when opening aps and games,, this is definitely hotter than the first time i bought it,,
Its normal I think..
I mean its normal and OK until the phone actually stops responding and/or behaves abnormally.... And you will get a message/notification that it is overheated and will automatically turn off (or reboot) - I'm just guessing because I never saw it on my phone but I once saw it "partially" on my friend's S3 once...
One more thing... The phone usually heats up a bit while its charging.... The same thing applies when you are playing games or browsing the internet for a long time...
Sent from my SGSA... If my post(s) helped you in any way then please wish me Good Luck for my exams!

mmm.. yeah my phone does not exp. force shutdown or reboot yet so I think its fine for now ..
I google a little and i found out that overheating is one of the sign of battery problem..
Im a heavy user like Im using it almost everyday(playing games etc.) so Im suspecting it might be a hardware problem or maybe BAttery problem, and I hope it just a battery probem but my phone is just 7 months old, and phone battery should last a year or two, but considering my heavy use it might be.,, so Im gonna try to replace my battery Thank you anyway for your reply and good luck

Hmm.. its upto you, whether you want to change your battery or not... and yes too high temperature will reduce its overall "life".. but I still think both your phone and your current battery is ok because smartphones (usually the ones with more than one CPU) usually heat up a bit when it is used for a long time

YEs it maybe still on good condition, but in a 1 hour palytime at the temp. of 41 °C is very uncomfortable to me. this is like holding a child with a super high grade fever with your hands,, and it applys to all games i played.,
By the way may I ask what is your phone highest temp. during playing games??

Ok Thanks...
My current phone temperature is 32 degrees... I just used it to talk with my Dad..
So yeah I'm pretty sure if I play GTA VC now that temp will rise to +40 degrees...
On my P model the temerature never (i mean NEVER) rised beyond the level that it would feel uncomftable... I think your phone !might! be faulty but I'm not sure about it
Install a software to monitor the life and temp of the battery

I was reluctant to believe that it was laggy. Since it uses the same chipset as the nexus 4 or a better version. How is the heavy games performing? I know there plenty of videos regarding gaming reviews. But I just want a views from a user of xperia zr. Since its a little on the costly side for me and want to make sure it's worth it.
not so laggy . my zr is smooth when running apps . a little bit laggy when play heavy games ,but not so obvious . this is a great phone with a little cost :fingers-crossed:

You mean the Game lags are not much noticeable? I would be installing Asphalt 7, if I get this phone. How would xperia zr stand up to nexus 4 in performance section?
Mine is laggy, not all the time but if you keep screen on for about 10 minutes and launching apps after apps, it gets really laggy especially on Chrome. I even have display issues where black screen are displayed on certain apps for awhile before showing up. Not sure if it's because I have too many sync data and background apps going on but I don't understand how anyone can use a smartphone these days without a minimum of such things going on

That sounds quite bad, mine definitely does not do that. However, I have to say Chrome is laggy on any kind of phone, I would never use it, especially because of that. I use Dolphin these days.
It will drop frames in heavy gaming because of overheat. it works well in gaming as long as you can keep it cool.
there is not lag in daily uses.
even Asphalt 8 can run smoothly on XZR
Well the phone is kinda brand new so.. in this price range its expected to be smooth and fast no doubt about it. The 2 gigs and 1.5 quad boy do the job.Have the phone from more than a month and I can tell you if u have the money go for it. the heating is abit ****ty when you play heavy games more than 30 min but every smatphone heats so..its not a big deal

I have been using my zr for about two months. Lag is virtually non existent. I am happy with the performance. Dead trigger plays very well. Only problems are heating during heavy gameplay like deadtrigger or using chrome and those flaps covering headphone jack and usb port.

I think it's just some games that just resource hogging and seems to cause those delay and black screens.
Sony roms are the most laggy roms ever (Specially if you have many background app running!) So expect some lag when connecting to internet
Not laggy. try factory reset.

[Q] Temperatures

I've had my new Z1 (opened 3 days ago) and what I've seen is that the
temperature goes really high after 10 minutes of light gaming.
I've tried playing temple run 2 or subway but after 7-10 minutes the phone heats up...
I don't know if my device is like that or the adreno uses too much power to make
the game "happen" in a 5inch 1920x1080 resolution....
I think heating up the phone is dangerous...Am I right?

Yes it is dangerous but nor games nor anything else on stock system will warm your device to very very high temps.
You don't have to worry until phone will burn your skin

The device definitely goes hot while gaming. I've had mine thermal throttle once while playing Asphalt 8!
It's totally normal that this device gets so warm. Don't worry, xperia z1 is well designed and it won't burn. Lg g2 gets even hotter.
You can put it under water to bring the temperature down, I've done that
