Guys,I own a T Mobile G1 Android 1.6 Phone and recently I’m facing some problems. The problem that appeared recently is with the battery drain. before some days ago the battery of my G1 lasted up to 4-5 days, without using Wireless, GPS, and Bluetooth. If I used the mentioned services normally the battery lasted up to two days. But recently the battery is draining too fast. Within 4 hours the battery goes down less then 15% even I do not use any mentioned services. I keep my phone on standby, without talking a single minute with the phone, not using any service etc, and again it goes down very quick. I took some measures according to HTC instructions how to save the battery but again it does not function. I uninstalled all applications and reset the phone to factory setting by again same thing. Then I searched on the Google some instructions, I tried also that one’s but again it does not function. I always used HTC charger that came with the phone but again same problem. What is the strangest thing that after some days the battery gets back and works perfectly for two weeks, which means I use the phone normally without charging 4-5 days. As I operate very well with the smartphones, Pocket PC’s etc I start analyzing G1 and monitoring very closely why the battery goes down, I monitored for a long time the query under the :About Phone-Battery use- and I see there that Andorid OS is using the battery from 76% up to 85%. Now it came to my mind that something is keeping engaged or it keeps running the Andorid OS always on. Then I suspected that thre my be any virus on my phone, but I installed form Market Flexilis/lookout antivirus application, but there was no virus and again the battery goes very quickly down. As I said after sometime the system returns to normal and the battery lasts for 4-5 days, and when I check the information under Phone,Battery use, I see that the Andorid OS is spending only 6% of the battery. Comparing with the previous description it is a huge difference. According to my opinion there is a small problem with any file which keeps always running to much the Andorid OS. Can you please give me any instruction why Andorid OS is spending that much the battery? Or give me any instruction how to prevent this operation that keeps Android OS to much engaged? or is there any programming mistake?, is there any need for update?, do I need to root my phone as it is not rooted? The reason why I’m thinking that there is a technical problem is because sometimes the system gets back to normal and sometimes it goes out of normal running. I appreciate a lot if you could help me to resolve the mentioned problem.
I've noticed the same thing on my G1 sometimes there is fast battery drain and it seems associated with Android OS. The percentage is over 70%. I also notice it be associated with the display as well. Could be that there is some process that won't stop running and is using Android OS or it could be that on other occasions the display is not going into sleep mode properly. I wish I knew how to fix these problems but I don't. I just observe them.
The battery issue, is an up and down problem for me. Sometime I can go through it in one day or less, other days it will last me for 2 plus days.
It also could be that the battery need replacing. Who's know.
I just bought a 2nd hand G1 - works just fine. I rooted and installed CM6.1.
My battery drains within 1-2 hours. I've tried various methods of resetting stats, with no luck. How frustrating! I wonder if it's a battery hardware problem or software?

I also faced bad battery life on various roms. Since I'm using COS-DS (android 2.3.3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 and the Biffmod kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 the phone runs more than 24h when texting and calling. Of course you should apply the 14MB RAM hack in comination with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139. On standby (everything off, except data and 3g) my G1 runs >48h, before it needs to be plugged in.

Sounds like the basic description of the USB Charging Bug.
The bug triggers if the G1 is using a kernel starting 2.6.35 and onward tree, and charged using the USB instead of AC wall charger.
A couple of option to avoid the super discharge after that (you can use either);
1. Reboot after you unplug the USB charger.
2. Change kernel to one from 2.6.34 tree
You can also visit the Dev sub-forum, there's a thread there discussing the debugging process.
It is so unpredictable for me...I have just got into the habit of a reboot after unplugging USB.
Battery drain on the G1
I have the same problem. Even on standby it drops to less than half of its battery life. Sometimes its worse. today i noticed that the battery percentage was at 84. Next thing I know the phone reboots itself and it displays that it has 1% battery, battery icon empty all in red and LED flashing in red. Then I turn it off connect it to the charger, after a couple of seconds I turn it back on and says its 90 something percent. Could be a virus or just a battery bug,that's my guess. I scanned the phone with Lookout Security and there was no Virus,malware or spyware found.
I want to try different kernels for this battery issue but want to make sure I am installing the right one.
I have CM6.1 with 2.22.23.02 radio and DangerSPL installed. Can I just load any of the kernels built for EBI0?

firstly, i just wanna say that the HTC Incredible S is a solid and terrific device, previously owning an iPhone 4 i might like the HTC better, except for some things...
The battery:
i read some reviews before buying and every reviewer seemed to love the phone and what the battery has to offer. I've owned the phone for a week, and charge it through the USB cable, connected to my PC, and sometimes the wall socket.
But it seems to me that the battery is a bit short.... if i want the battery full i will let it charge overnight, the next day i powered it on, sent a few texts and listened to half a song and the battery has already drained to 70%, coming to this from an iPhone 4 is disgusting.
I've got Auto-Sync and background data working, i like push notifications for Emails and Facebook and i like the weather to update on its own, also HTC sense incase i need to do things remotely, everything else has been set not to sync.
One of my favorite features is Auto Brightness, which is enabled on default, but when i check battery use it says that 70% has gone to the display, 12% cell network and everything else. I have a task killer that kills all processes when i turn the screen off..
Any help??
Wiping the battery stats a few times helped me, I used to recharge the phone to full battery and after unplugging it from the charger, it would drop to 94% in a few seconds...Oh, after 2-3 weeks, not after a week!
Also I get twice the battery life on Cyanogen 7.1, than on any other Rom I've tried...I get at least 2-3 days with good usage, tons of mails, sms, calls, weather apps etc. Wifi and BT always on. No juice defender or anything like that...
Dropping to ~95% can also be normal though. To preserve the battery the charging circuit should cutout when it reaches 100% charge and let it discharge to 95% before turning on again.
If you do wipe the battery stats make sure you read some guides and do it properly as I've found that more often than not it will have a detrimental affect (from needing to charge before it has fully discharged, or needing to reboot etc).

wipe the stats? sorry im still new to android but so far so good, im impressed with everything else in the incredible s, its very snappy and has a bigger screen vs iPhone 4.
if it helps, i have the phone fully turned off if i charge it overnight.
also, i read on another forum that while it's still brand new it needs to run a few charge cycles to strengthen the battery, if that is true.
It always drops to 95% when the battery is fully charged. S-ON Incredible S is not allowed to wipe battery status. Should I unlock it?
Yes, I forgot to mention...to wipe the battery stats you need to unlock the Hboot...If you have Hboot 1.16.000, then the only option is this:

Unlocking the Hboot is giving you a few benefits, you get to install the CWM recovery and do a full backup of your Rom...Without unlocking the Hbtoot, if your Rom crashes, you can't flash any Rom so you have to send it back to HTC Service ...With the Hboot unlocked you can install custom Roms, you can restore a full backup, you can flash GAPPS etc, wipe battery stats directly from recovery etc etc...
So many benefits...
Now back on how to wipe the stats...The principle behind is simple, if 100%=4.3V and the stats are incorrectly set for 100%=3.9V, then you're never actually recharging the battery to full capacity, which is rubbish...
The way I do it is this - charge to 100%, boot into recovery and wipe the battery stats. Now use the phone until it's shutting down and then charge to 100% again.
Very important is to avoid rebooting the phone after the stats were wiped until the phone is fully recharged. Here is a thread about this process:

In my view, recharging while the phone is off makes no difference.
Yes, it's true. With all my Android phones I went through the same thing, first week or so, the battery was rubbish, but after about 2 weeks it improved a lot.
yeah, i've had it for around one week. so i might take your word for it and give it a chance, maybe for 2 weeks. i was thinking of bringing it back to the store but i'll give it a chance.
a part from the short battery at the moment it's a pretty terrific phone and i like it more than the iPhone 4.
Once the battery is conditioned, phone is rooted, custom Rom installed, bloat frozen out or uninstalled, then you can expect your phone battery to last a good full day with regular usage. No need to switch off when charging over night.

well i've had it for almost 2 weeks now. I charged again overnight last night and used it to listen to music and play NinJump/Bejewled on the way home today, battery uptime was just over 30 mins and the battery was down to 70% remaining. That's a bit quick if you ask me.
Not sure what's happening with your phone...but my Inc S has really good battery life, similar to Iphone 4...
At the moment is not rooted (that's why I couldn't take a screenshot) and it's on stock 2.3.3. With BT and Wifi always on, with tons of e-mails daily, browsing, calls (at least 20 minutes per day), tons of messages, etc etc
Screen brightness is always set to maximum and I get at least 2 days battery life, see attached photo...
I'm not playing games or listen to music...so I can't test that side of things and maybe that's where the problem lies.
What's your Battery Usage app saying?
Is there anything unusual listed there?

Maybe try disabling the Optus bloatware. Had a bit of an improvement when I did it to mine. Also be mindful about what apps are running in the background constantly, they could also have an impact on battery life. Screen is a huge battery killer if its constantly on, autobrightness can help slightly if you haven't enabled it already.

That battery usage sounds awesome! I have mine on Auto Brightness and WiFi turned off but its nothing like yours. My battery usage app says most of it has gone to the brightness, of course that percentage goes down when i start opening apps.
edit: im also using the stock Android 2.3.3 installed from the factory. and disabled my Advanced Task Killer, battery is still the same, but the phone now lags a lot less. so thats a plus for now.

When i first got the phone i noticed Optus loaded it with rubbish apps i'd never even touch. I disabled auto updates for the bloatware and forced stop for all the ones running. it doesnt look like i can remove them though :\

do you get good reception where you live? i find that seems to drain most of my battery.

ok atm my incredible s is saying 4 hrs 26 min uptime and 1 hr 21 min awake time, 50% left. my signal here is great, the speed of the internet even beats my ADSL 2+ sometimes. should i be thinking of warranty back to store?
Before i rooted my phone i was charging my phone twice a day - this was nothing new to me as i had been charging my 3gs at least twice a day for the past two years.
However like somebody else has said, once the phone is rooted and all that optus junk has been deleted it lasts a lot longer. And you can notice the difference, my phone has been rooted for 2 days now and i have been on it none stop, modding all the appearence and downloading apps. I have been using it a lot more than i was before it was rooted and it has lasted at least twice as long. So for battery usage i should deffo root. Its HTC sense/screen that hammers your battery. Go look at battery usage and yourll see what i mean.
Also, i know this might sound stupid. But charging it through a wall socket (for me) seems quicker to charge, and seems to last longer than if its charged through a laptop/PC. Although ive thought this for my 3gs as well. If its actually true i dont know haha.

sounds just about right. my iPhone 4 needed a charge like once every 2 - 4 days, i thought it was awesome. On the Incredible S it says that 62% of the battery usage has gone to display, with very little apps on the list.
The optus apps are just sitting there. Because im on Amaysim i can't exactly use them properly because you need an actual optus account. ive tried opening some of the optus apps, they're mostly just web links and theres a Mobile TV and a Music Store app i believe, but i never at all use them. so they cant be consuming any data, memory or battery or anything, right??
Im still unsure about 'rooting'. Im guessing it's android's version of the jailbreak or a godmode on the device? i might need some help on it, i know how to flash windows mobile and jailbreak iTouch devices easily.
But then again, a lot of people have bought this phone, they cant all be experiencing terrible battery life and i dont think every user would have a root on their device.
I bought it from DickSmith here in Aus, the guy there told me there's a 1 yr back to store warranty. The phone is solid and one of the best phones i've ever had, plus a good price tag on it, its a shame to let a weak battery spoil it.
im thinking of returning it, but i heard somewhere it needs a couple weeks to strengthen the battery, if that's the case then there's no point getting a new one only to wait longer, ill give it a little more time. Plus HTC is releasing 2.3.5 software for the Incredible S soon, and wikiPedia states that it's got "Improved battery efficiency". but ill still keep root in mind for when i get more use to the device.

Yes, about 40min to 1hour display on... sometimes more...I will attach a screenshot once I get throughout the whole battery.
Yes, generally good coverage and mostly 3G...I'm on Optus.
My phone has been rooted before, but now it's on stock Rom as an experiment...
I would strongly advise on rooting, it changes the phone completely.
And remove any animation (live wallpapers) those are killing the battery.
Also found one more thing. If you've got Facebook installed it refreshes every hour, i set mine to never refresh, but you can still receive notifications
But i still don't get why the battery drains soo quickly, even on standby.
edit: found one more thing.
uptime and awake time. when i turn the screen off and awake time should stop counting as the phone is locked and im not using any apps, right?? in some cases i've noticed the awake timer still counts.
example: awake time will read 1:52:39, turn the screen off at this point. go back a couple hours later it's been counting as awake the whole time, and has half battery life it did eventhough i haven't touched the device since locking it and turning off the screen.
in some cases the awake timer will not budge when i lock the phone and turn the screen off and still find the same amount of battery life remaining when i come back.

Box opened, turned on tablet and...strange thing...battery was down to 4%...generally a new device has more residual power...
Anyway, i charged it all night for ten hrs.
Turned on again and 100% charge.
Everything runned ok for almost two days...then my tablet started to reboot randomly under 50% charge without no reason. No overheat, no strange app, no cpu stress. Just browsing internet, using facebook, sliding app drawer.
When it rebooted again charge was at 12%. Rebooted again...charge at 62...then 32%...and so on...
Maybe a battery calibration issue. So I decided to restore to default settings. Did it for 3 times...same behaviour...under 50-40% tablet started to reboot randomly.
Rapidly returned back to the store and changed with another one.
No problems at the moment, battery drain is regular with no "jumps".
Maybe it was just a defective battery but it was a very unpleasant experience.
Hope this is just an isolated event.
Well It doesn't sound normal for this Tablet .hope you get a better taste with your newly exchanged Tab.
Not sure which store sold you the tablet, but a "new" device would not be down to 4% on the battery on initial start-up.
Makes you wonder if the tablet was previously returned as defective and the store sold it to you anyways. Hopefully that wasn't the case.
Here's hoping your replacement tablet will work as advertised!

All the samsung original seals on the box were intact so I think that it was simply a defective battery.
The new tablet was at 45% charge when unboxed.
Fortunately no strange reboot for now...[emoji6]
there are a case here when some user having nearly the same problem. and he's kind of open the back cover himself to discover that the battery connector are not seal properly. yours might be in the same case.

That has battery connection problem. Maybe u got the 'QC Failed' batch like mine... i sent to Samsung but it got worst. Could not even turn it on. So i DIY it since i am rooted and the warranty does not cover rooted device. And my battery is no longer like what u r going through. If u are not rooted, go for an exchange.

I'm glad to hear everything is working as it should with your replacement tablet.
I have reached a point of frustration that I can hardly bear anymore.
If I remember correctly, it all started last year around Halloween when I first tried out NewMaclaw's CM11 port. I was dissatisfied with the unusually high battery drain and soon returned to stock where everything went back to normal for the following months. Due to my banking app requiring at least Android 4.3, I started experimenting with the available ROMs again in April. Since then my battery life has never returned to an acceptable state again. It doesn't matter what ROM I use, I would never make it through the day.
I always blamed it on the custom ROMs because after returning to stock for the first time, the battery life was decent again. Due to the suspicious behavior of my battery lately, like dropping or gaining several percent at once upon connecting or disconnecting the charger, I went back to stock for the second time the other day, to determine once and for all whether there was something faulty about the battery. And I thought I would have confirmed just that when the battery drained just as fast on stock. So naturally I ordered a brand new battery (manufacturing date May 2015), and hoped for satisfaction at last.
But this phone is just merciless and continues to punish me for reasons that completely elude me. The first day on stock after a full charge, the battery lasted for a mere 23 hours on stand by in AIRPLANE MODE!!! WiFi was enabled, but only for being able to receive text messages on surespot. No other push services were installed. After the second full charge, I flashed the latest CM11 and instantly noticed that the crazy draining hadn't changed. As a final act of despair, I did an advanced wipe to delete everything on the phone except the external SD card. Of course the effort was meaningless, I was down to 16% after only 11 hours with a screen on time of 2 1/2 hours. All I did was browsing with Firefox. No video or audio, just common websites. Today I did the same thing after yet another recharge, and lost 20% battery after 45 minutes. I always set the display brightness to minimum by the way.
So if it's not a faulty battery, then what the heck is it that prevents the battery from operating normally?!? I really tried everything in the process - flashing several different ROMs, going back to Stock, disabling the location and wake up features of Google Play Services, buying a new battery. What else can cause such ridiculous battery drain, and why did it not occur before I started flashing?
Hello, have you tried to debug which apps and kernel wakelocks eats most battery? Try to install betterbatterystats: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809. That might give you some hint what eats your battery.
Thanks for replying. I don't think it is any particular app since the drain occurs even while on TWRP and right after flashing before having installed any apps. It is also the same whether I browse the web with Firefox mobile or send and receive messages with surespot which are the apps that I primarily use most of the time. I'll give your battery stats a try anyway.

It all happened a month ago, after an update, the phone battery registered low and the device reboted, and for the first time in the phone history, I saw, at boot, the "app optimization" dialogue, that kept chewing at what battery life was left.
So, I replaced the battery;
at first start, all seemed OK till I hit an app (whatsapp I think) and the phone displaied the low battery warning and went down.
Same, after a full recharge, when pressing the camera hardware button.
Oh, I also had the discrepancy between the charging icon , which reported 100% charge, and after maybe 10min. 50% and, you know the story.
Now, at the very moment I am writing, after a full charge, 24 hours ago, the phone, without the sim and the SD cards, but left on, registers a charge of 93% (only wireless on, to invite some disharge); of course I cannot check the watsapp, but I took some pics, and the phone stays on.
What do you reckon, I am bugged, as android 5.1.1
should I hang on the phone, which, by the way, performs(ed) pretty well, even though marsmallow is not an option, with the 2GB mem. at least in a bog standard state (i.e. not rooted)?

A little update: after two more hours, I started using the browser, and after viewing a couple of pages, the phone swiched itself off.
Now, the charging icon, visible, when phone is off, show a 1% charge.
So, the software battery meter, must be well off the mark?
Last addiction: after an hour, the status light is green (phone charged?) and the charge icon, displays a 100% level.

I have this problem and battery replace didnt solve anything here too, but I'm on nougat. I hope someone know a solution for this.. But I think It is some kind of hardware problem.
Little update: after recharging, I switched the phone up and let it play some video on youtube;
well, after maybe half an hour, it went down, and as soon as I plugged the charger in, the icon showed 80% charge, which I allready experienced, dismissing it had a fawlty reading, but, with some afterthought , would be in line with the actual battery drainage ( remember that without any activity it stays on indefenetly) and is, as if, some internal mechanism -either hardware or software, is programmed to switch it off at that precise level.
Just a thought, is there somewhere, the level of battery disharge can be set, at our discretion before the device shuts off, say 15%?
I do not seem to find this specific setting, currently.
It is less credible, as time goes by, to think of it as a specific device/brand problem, given the fact that all the major players ware, seems to be affected, and allowing for differences in platforms, the common denominator would appear to be the software itself.

Some time ago, I replaced my Xperia SP's battery.
The "used, like new" battery I ordered was as bad as the one that was to be replaced, maybe even worse.
I complained, got another-one. This other battery works great.
Remember: There are no "new" batteries out there, just used-ones.
Some are still good, some are dead.
I don't know where replacement batteries that are new should come from... Sony has never sold them as spare parts. I don't know of any company that produces batteries for Sony phones and sells these batteries on the open market.
I only know of third party spare parts for iPhones. Apple has sold only like 20 different models since 2006.
Sony? More like 100.
Producing third party spare parts just isn't profitable in this case. That's the reason why there aren't any.
Any seller who claims to offer "new" batteries lies. At least if he didn't take them from some never used devices.
I'd be HAPPY to be proven wrong because I also need a new battery for my Z1.
Besides, it's no wonder all our phones' batteries die at the same time. They are all the same age and have had more or less the same amount of charging cycles.
Also, it's no wonder they all die the same way (suddenly empty).
They all (more or less) came out of the same factory.
It's like with cars, same model, same problems.
A Peugeot 206 always has problems with the Zylinderkopfdichtung (don't know the English word, the rubber thingy in the motor that keeps water from mixing with oil), some stuff with the wheels or the exhaust flies off because of rust... for the third time in 5 years...

Very important updates.
There seems to be an "xperia battery bug" which kicks in at every battery change.
After having done all the calibration stuff, I re-opened the phone and took the battery connector off, while the phone was on.
Then, did the same, with the phone off.
After three or four days in which the phone did not seem able to start, (rebooted at the first stages of switching on) the phone magically booted up with, and what's more important there was no dicrepancy, between the battery charge level, shown when you plug in the charger, with phone switched off, and the charge level presented by the software, once the phone is on.
So, do not give up your still worth device!
Only thing I noticed now, is a sligtly faster battery consumption, even in stamina mode;
could it be related with the post above?
Maybe a new custom ROM could fix the problem, now that the phone seems stable.
Similar problem.
Phone shuts down when 2 to 3 apps are working simultaneously. It first heats up and then suddenly dies.
Secondly, it sometimes dies on 60% and other days it can work till 1% too. Sometimes after a reboot, it shows the battery percentage abnormally.
I love this phone so i m not planning to throw it away. On the other hand, i cannot find an original battery in the market.
Just chuck a suitable battery in and do the procedure I described.
My battery is not original either, so no problem.
As far as the battery consumption, it seems to be better now, after a week of use.
