[Q] Canadian/North American Launch Date? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, I know were all excited about this phone and lots of us are talking about waiting it out until it gets here. Anyone have any hints as to when they'll be releasing it to us. I know the Z Ultra has been in Asia for a long time and only now are they releasing it to Canada. I'd really like to get my hands on this phone. Btw did an order with Clove and got a (Backorder) status. So I canceled, you might not want to order.

Did you check Negri?

Negri only has the 6903 model which I believe wont work on Canadian/US LTE. We need the 6906 model for North America.

6903 lte works on tmobile by looking at the frequency
the 6906 carries the 700 mhz carried by att for lte.

I wish that they would devise a way for a phone to have all frequencies.

I have T-Mobile and I live in the US. I ordered the Unlocked Xperia Z1 because a T-Mobile rep said that it supports the bands for T-Mobile 2G, 3G, 4G (HSPA+ & LTE).

http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/09/25/xperia-z1-to-hit-canada-in-october-through-multiple-carriers/
YESSSSS!!!!!!

I have the 6903 and the 1700 AWS LTE band does work in Canada (Bell) I am having a little trouble with the HSPA though i think it's bell's side since my 6603 work with HSPA and has the exact same bands as the 6903.

I'm still waiting for the 6906

http://mobilesyrup.com/2013/10/02/b...tra-launching-october-15th-heres-the-pricing/
We’ve received word on the launch date and no-term pricing. Both the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra will be arriving in Canada on October 15th. The no-contract price points will be $699.95 for the Xperia Z1 and $799.95 for the Xperia Z Ultra.

Pretty much not going to happen. When it comes to the US should be sold as an unlocked model from Sony stores. If it does come to a carrier should be T-Mobile

Will the Xperia Z1 that's hitting Canadian shelves be the C6906 model? I'm guessing not since none of the aforementioned providers use the 700 mhz band, which is what I need as a sad AT&T customer that wants the Z1 pretty badly

If Sony is smart it would be the C9606 model, because the Canadian 700mhz auction is just around the corner. This would future proof the phone somewhat for Canadians and let those that roam across the border benefit right away.
What I want to know is - beyond LTE bands - what are the hardware differences between the C6903 and C6906? Why does the C6903 show support for H265* in the whitepaper while the C6906 does not? Is this just a codec out-of-box thing or is the hardware decoder different? I can't imagine so because that's probably on the SoC itself in the GPU.
Anyone know?

Actually, I just did some research and it appears as if the Canadian carriers do in fact use 700 mHz bands (at least Bell and Telus do, I can't find any concrete and viable information about Rogers), my apologies. It would appear as if Wikipedia isn't always a viable source.
If this is the case - then I'll be buying a Z1 and getting it imported into the US. This is very exciting!

Yeah it appears that if you check the white papers on sonymobile.com/ca-en/products/phones/xperia-z1/specifications/ Canada will be getting the c6906 version, which seems likely for a oct 15 release from news on the web. Now the problem is just getting a unlocked version shipped to the US.

I don't know where you did your research, but no one has 700mhz spectrum allocation for mobile in Canada. The auction to sell licenses hasn't happened yet.

USA Version - Official Waiting Thread

This thread will be for anyone who has specific info on the release of the USA version of the Diamond (DIAM200) with US 3G bands.
I'll start... so far this is all I've seen. It's a start, but it's from May 9th so who knows what's changed by now, and a price range would be nice.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7344.html
If you know anything... post it here!
I have heard that it might not be till August/Sept before the USA version is released...i cant remember the site where i read it from but the person did say it could be end of summer before the American version is released.
I have the Diamond now..pending some performance fixes, I will be grabbing the US model when its released!
Its coming in July.... Early July... mobilecityonline just got back to me with this info and they will have it! They will also get the touch pro one month after the euro version comes out.... Not too bad.

yes they told me the same thing.....i hope it turns out to be true.
This is one of the things that bothers me about the Diamond. Here in Brazil HSDPA bands are 850 and 2100 MHz, so we will probably need a specific model.
Did they happen to say what US bands will be on it? ATT or Tmobile? Contract is up in August and replacing my wing with a touch pro one way or another

99.9% chance it'll be ATT USA Bands (850+1900) like every other HTC NA model out there...who knows though, maybe they'll throw the 1700 on there for ****s and giggles but I doubt it!
Has anyone tested the UK model to see if it actually has 850 on it and working? It wouldn't be the first time...
Just curious.

If i recall correctly, someone did check and it doesnt come with the 850 band on it...this is the asian version though. The proper UK models havent been released yet in the UK...next week is what they are saying.
If you have bought a diamond recently from Expansys or ebay, then its not a UK spec model but a grey import from Hong Kong ie its an asian unit.
I hope this includes the Raphael as well.
The GMS bands of the phone work fine in the us?
It only supports the 1900 band, right? Is there complete coverage in the US?

ATT you will have problems with this phone as much of their network, including NYC, is only 850mhz. Tmobile USA however is 100% 1900 w/ Full EDGE so you should get a good experience with this phone on Tmo!

I, couldn't wait for the US version, so I ordered mine last week & it was sent from Asia. The phone works great with T-Mobile, EDGE is pretty quick & voice calls are crystal clear so far.

[Q] Which model did I just buy...???

Does anyone out there know the model (region) specific LTE configurations?
I just bought an HTC one (waiting for international delivery).. it was model 801n.. I could not find much data on it, but I did find some info at pdadb.net, which suggests that this model has the following LTE bands:
Secondary+Cellular+Phone
Dual-Cellular-Network;Operation: Selectable cellular module
Secondary-Cellular+Networks: LTE700 (B17), LTE850 (B5), LTE1700/2100 (B4), LTE1900 (B2)
Secondary;Cellular;Data-Links: LTE
Secondary+Cellular;Antenna: Internal antenna
Which means it will work on ATT, but I have been unable to validate this. So far HTC has come back with the official - it's a UK market model, so we cant' help you with that, but I have put in a follow up question. hopefully they can help.
I believe the most common model is the 801E, which appears to be the 800 1600 2600 model, which will not work...
It is driving me nuts, as I really took a risk and bought it without confirmation and paid a high price...
Anyone have more/better data?
Many thanks,
Nick

I found it on Ebay, saw they had the box in hand, so confirmed the model and part number, searched like heck to try and figure out what the model number meant. Only found the info listed on the PDADB site.
I also called HTC in Taiwan and contacted the UK and US HTC support sites by email to try and get confirmation of what LTE types is has, but just get official non-answers.. There has to be a document somewhere at HTC with all the model numbers that lists the differences... It is shocking that this cannot be found.
Anyway, seller said he bought it from an official HTC seller in the England (GB).
I am also wondering whether this could be the dev model?? I assume that was released in GB after the carrier launch.
Needless to say I am anxious to figure out what I have actually purchased... And a little pissed off that I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere.
Arrggg.. anyway, it should be here in a day or two, so I will find out soon enough...

Model 801n is the uk model for sure, I preordered one from phones4u, a company here sells phones on all network, not sure what's the equivalent in us though. I assume you bought it from someone who did the same as me, since as far as I know, phones4u was the only place you can get the One in the past two weeks, and their phones come unlocked to any network.
But it is definitely not developer version cos it's not available in uk.
If you checked what frequency band the 801n supports and it matches at&t's frequency, then you should be able to use the phone without problem.
So just relax it will all be fine.

Well - it is here and .. no LTE..
I have to figure out whether it really has the secondary LTE radio with the US bands like PDAdb.net says it has.. And how to enable it, if that is the case.

If it's the UK Model then in the US you'll be able to get everything apart from LTE. If you look at the reviews on YouTube, all the models they got were the European versions and they could only get 3G in the US.
Seems like it is mostly working, but the signal is weaker then my optimus g, note 2 and bb z10... And even eight a good signal the data indicator keeps toggling between H and 3G... Anyone know how and if I can optimize the phone for att?

c6903 vs c6906

Most of the people in this forum wants C6906 for AT&T LTE support, but i am in quite opposite situation..
both C6903 and C6906 will work flawlessly with my current provider- bell,
but with C6906 I will have some problem with Korean service providers because it wont support 800MHZ and 1.8GHZ.
(Korea Telecom uses 800, 1800 freq. as long as i remember).
Since i visit Korea often i really want to get c6903 but i really don't know where to get it from.
Is Sony store in US carry C6903? and if it is for how much? I when to the sony website and it only shows C6902.
Go to amazon.com I got my c6903 from there

Biggest difference is the network bands that are being used.
The 03 seems to be for EU/America's and the 33 seems to be for Asia.

Hello, so I'm interested in buying the Z3C from Clove, the D5803 model and I"m from India.
I've read that the only problem will be that I won't be able to use 4G.
So otherwise everything will work on Indian networks? Internet, calling, 3G??
Thanks for your help!

Apparently the difference is in the 3g and 4g Bands.
Also the D5833 is the only one to have TD-LTE which is popular in Asia (According to wikipedia) So i'm guessing 5833 is the asian model and the other is the "rest of the world" model.

If you are buying fro Clove because of the price difference please be aware that in most likelihood you will have to pay customs duty which will pretty much match up the price you will pay for it in India. I bought the D5833 model with the Indian LTE band from USA. My friend bought it for me and is now in Kerala. Waiting for him to courier it to me.

Alright, thanks for the warning. Although I checked using the duty calculator they provide and it says I have to pay around 4,000 to customs. That still makes it a lot lower than the Indian retail price. Although I'm not 100% sure it's accurate

I agree. However, given that the phone is already selling in india at a much higher rate and if the customs guys have any idea about its selling price in India, I would think that they would tax it to equate your invoice with the selling price in India. I'm not certain on this though. But there is indeed a chance. This is not discourage you. The phone is now available from ebay.in for 39990 with full sony india warranty.

I'm not certain on this though. But there is indeed a chance. This is not discourage you. The phone is now available from ebay.in for 39990 with full sony india warranty.

True. I'll probably wait a few more months for the price to drop.
I'll make sure before buying the phone from Clove to see how much the customs will cost. Thanks

Will U.S. Amazon site get INT'L Xperia X Perf at the same time as other countries???

Does anyone know from past experience (etc) if the U.S. Amazon site will get the INTERNATIONAL version of the Xperia X Performance at the same time as the other countries do?? I know the int'l version will get released before the U.S. version, but can anyone say if they've heard or seen that the U.S. Amazon site will get them at that time or later??
Thank you in advance!!

kms,
I've already pre-ordered the single-sim version from Expansys U.S., and have no desire to buy the dual-sim version. But thanks anyway.
Any idea if ANY of the XP variants Sony is releasing will come with VoLTE???

VoLTE is not a feature that sony will omit from the Hong Kong version, I think all the service provider in Hong Kong supports VoLTE, but have to wait for the release before I can confirm, it should be available on the 16th.

kms,
Hmm interesting........ I have NO desire for the dual-SIM, HOWEVER.......... if the dual-sim version comes with VoLTE, then I will most certainly be interested in it!! I found out that, at least with my carrier (T-Mobile, I live in the Chicago area in the U.S.), even though the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, because it doesn't have VoLTE (single-sim), it WILL NOT be able to utilize Band 12 for voice during phone calls, only the data portion can be used on Band 12 during a call. But with VoLTE, I'd be able to use Band 12 for voice too............which is important because my area is going to have it very soon! Band 12/700 MHz spectrum is very valuable b/c it can penetrate buildings much better than the higher bandwidths can, which means BETTER reception while indoors! :victory: Right now it doesn't matter, but in 6-8 months when we WILL have it, it will.
2 questions:
1) Are YOU getting your dual-sim version of the XP from Expansys HK?
2) The 16th? As in JUNE 16th kms??!!

I'm still considering the X or XP, The X will be available on the 7th whiles the XP is on the 16th, I think I heard the shop say this, but can't confirm yet, but it is before mid of this month for both.
If I do get one it will be from a local chain store in Hong Kong, that way I can inspect the unit before hand for scratches, dead pixels and other cosmetic defect or problem, HK only has the dual sim version, the second sim is a hybrid sim/micro sd, but that isn't a problem as I can get them both working together.
Once either one is released I can check for you, about the VoLTE, but cannot check the bands.
Initial finding of the bands for XP and X are:
LTE FDD 700/800/850900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600
LTE TDD 1900/2300/2500/2600
WCDMA 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100

kms,
Yeah I've already confirmed the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, so don't worry about that. But getting a version of the XP that HAS VoLTE would be VERY important to me! I HATE it when other people around me can get reception indoors but I can't (it doesn't happen often, but it does happen). Having VoLTE would most likely eliminate this from happening the majority (if not ALL) the time.
That's fine. The one from the store will be the same as the dual-sim one from Expansys HK anyway.
So THIS month?!! :good::victory: That's f'ing awesome!!! Yeah we won't get the the single-sim XP here in the U.S. 'til I dunno, early to mid July? So even if I have to pay more for dual-sim, to have it extra early and WITH VoLTE would be extraordinary!! Man I REALLY HOPE the dual-SIM version of the XP has VoLTE!
Ok so say it does have it...........is there any reason to think it might not work here in the U.S. kms??!

HK expansys is likely to get the Hong Kong version, it's also a 64GB version, the only reason for not working in the US is the band, the band is 700, but there are various version of the 700 band, so not sure if this is the band 12.

Ughh you're right about the dual-sim one having 64 GBs! I don't need the 64GB version, like I don't need the extra SIM slot lol, but F it, whatever. IF this f'ing phone ACTUALLY has VoLTE on it, then I'll buy it. FML lol
Well wait a minute. There's a Hong Kong version? I don't think so kms..........the single-sim one I pre-ordered from Expansys US is the INTERNATIONAL version. Expansys US' own customer service people told me that they ONLY sell the international versions (unless otherwise noted). So I think the one you guys are getting will be the INTERNATIONAL version kms, but it'll be sold there in HK. Both the single and dual SIM versions of the XP (F8131 & F8132) have Band 12/700 MHz. So I don't see why it would be any different here vs. in Hong Kong to be honest with you.

If you can confirm the information is correct, then it's ok, extra internal memory is bettery, even 32Gb is getting slightly small these days, so the more the better.

You mean the single-sim one I pre-ordered, that it IS in fact the international version?? If so, I've already confirmed that with Expansys US. They told me they only sell the int'l version of phones UNLESS otherwise noted. Here is a copy & paste of their e-mailed response to me on that topic:
This would be the international version, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Dulce
So kms, if that's what they sell, then the dual-SIM (F8132) model YOU'RE getting will also be int'l, so it will come with Band 12/700 MHz capability on it as well, which that page I linked you earlier confirmed. What I don't get is why the F8132 would have VoLTE on it but the single-sim F8131 wouldn't? But if your prediction is true, then I don't give a sh*t. lol I just want that f'ing phone!! lol

Volte won't work unless sony actually certifies the process with the carriers they intend to have it with. Volte will not work like the z5 didn't.

Ok.
So what do you think MGS? Get the XP with the best camera but can't utilize Band 12 for voice on a call (so can't benefit from its improved indoor reception advantage) & no HD Voice, or get the HTC 10 which still has a very good camera and has the Band 12/VoLTE/HD Voice advantage? Tough choice, for me anyway.

Ethically I'd say htc 10 as htc wants your money as they listen to their fans for the most part and go the extra mile supporting all carrier features. On the other hand I'm a big sony fan and enjoy the value of their hardware but let's be honest sony really doesn't care about us. They force us to buy international versions to get full features and gimp us phones without giving us legitimate reasoning. Have you ever talked to sony mobile support they are as clueless as we are.

You make some valid points MGS.
The fact that HTC STILL sells their phones through all the major carriers is an advantage all its own. I can go onto T-Mobile's website and buy the HTC 10 RIGHT NOW if I wanted to.
Yeah I mean, I can't lie, I love Sony's Xperia phones the most. But I am at wit's end here with all this hassle I have to go through to buy the d*mn thing, and then in dealing with the BS that comes with the actual phone. The int'l version is cheaper (yet better) and is coming out sooner than the U.S. version, so I don't really care about that. But this VoLTE thing really p's me off cuz I won't get the BEST reception with it even though I really should. Plus having to buy it unlocked is dumb too.
Oh dude, JUST the other day I spoke to them. They LITERALLY know nothing more about why the supreme morons that run that company do what they do than we do. Is it really THAT hard to get the phone certified? I mean, if you're not gonna offer people the chance to pay for it on a monthly basis (like carriers do) interest-free, and not release it on time (f'ing July??!), the LEAST you could do is go that extra mile and get the d*mn thing certified for VoLTE and HD Voice too.
So your answer is HTC 10 or XP? lol
