S4 Upgrade - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I am eligible for upgrade cannt decide between S4 and note 3.
Have s3 know OK phone but battery life could be better . how you guys like s3 over s 4

Note 3 that is the phone I want
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4

I loved my Note 2 but it was just to big. Using it everyday was fine but having somewhere to put it was a pain. Go to a game and try to put it in your front pocket and set down was impossible. I found myself holding it all the time which sucked. The S4 has been the perfect size to use it in the real world if you're active. Just my two cents...

I love my S4 but am also do for an upgrade and will be getting Note 3 when it drops.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2

Came from the S3 to the S4 too. Loved my S3 and the S4 is just the next step up. Great phone, perfect size, awesome screen. The note 3 is a pretty sweet phone too. It's up to you if the hugeness of the note is an issue or not.
Sent from the Matrix on my GS4

Currently on the s4 no plans if getting the note 3
I would get the note 3
That snapdragon 800 is awesome
And the increase in size will make it feel newer longer
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I am staying with my s4 waiting on s5 so whatever the note 3 has now will be the past and old by the time the new galaxy s5 comes out anyways its part of marketing scheme new features better hardware etc..
Also don't want to bigger then this 5inch screen its just right for me but everyone has there own preference. Battery life is great on stock kernel with custom roms.

I think you should take S3 if you don't need 5.5 inch screen. The hardware is pretty same as in Note II, same gpu, processor(in Note II 1,6Ghz), chipset. Note II has better battery, but with this hardware it can last for max 2 days w/o charging. IMHO if I would change my phone I will probably take S3, I don't need big screens
but note 2 got 2gb ram n s3 jz 1gb ram...tat is what im thinking

Personal opinion id take the S3 without hesitation.

Note2 for 2GB
For smooth i suggest Note2.

Did you sell your Nexus 4? Are you going to?

Sold it/Traded it and happy
Sold it/Traded it and regret it
Going to sell it
Going to keep it
Unsure
4. Going to keep it for a year.
The price is pretty good so I could afford to upgrade yearly and it would still be the same price as other devices...only thing that kills is the ****en wait! And order process!
It's definitely a keeper for now!
4.
Probably.
Within the first day or so I seriously considered selling and buying a second hand GS3 but I've fallen in love with this phone! Love it. If i keep it for more than a month or two that'll be a good innings

4, I love the phone and I sold my Note II for it. I'll probably keep it for the year unless the S4 or HTC M7 really catches my eye.
As soon as I get my Experia Z, I will keep it for what it was bought to be, a development phone I can play with.
4. Think I'll keep this thing till there are actual octacores otherwise there aren't any reasons to upgrade. So 3-4 years I'll keep it.

I still go back and forth between my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 4. I use the Galaxy Nexus when I'm snowboarding and for bar nights when I know things might get a little weird.
While I do still love the Galaxy Nexus, every time I pop the SIM card back into the Nexus 4 and turn it on I am instantly reminded of how much more solid the build quality and performance are on the Nexus 4. It really is an extremely noticeable difference.
For that reason I'll definitely be holding onto this phone for at least a year. At which point I'll probably get whatever the next Nexus is and use the Nexus 4 as the backup phone.

he said "actual octacore" as in 8 cores fire all at once. Samsung's new chip is 8 cores but it operates as a quad core. Only 4 cores are ever used at any point in time.

seriously? ICS was laggy as hell.
It depends on a screen size (and free funds to spend of course ). If the screen size is 5" or bigger I will consider N4 of HTC One.

Really liking the design of that phone. The s4 just seems way too big for me and I would rather have a longer phone than a wider phone

My upgrade is in September so I still have some time to go. If Google comes out with a vastly improved nexus without a recycled design from another device. By vastly improved I'm talking about Camera quality, LTE, full HD screen and battery life. Sure I'll go for the nexus 5 but if they don't improve all those than I'm going to contemplate jumping ship.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Hmmmm...Nexus 5. If you'll note, the current nexus lineup are all named according to the display size. For Google to add a 4th nexus device to the lineup is unlikely (to much to manage), so the best guess is a refresh of the nexus 4, possibly by another manufacturer, and probably later in the year. What we can expect for I/O is a refresh on the nexus 7 (with the same name), and possibly a non-nexus device from Motorola that runs stock Android.

I think we could expect a new phone as well. Considering that key lime pie is a major update, there is bound to be new features for phones not just tablets. So they will be probably need another device to show off the new features of the new build. I'm doubting they will use a nexus 4 as a demo device, its already fairly old news.

Yea but they first launched jellybean on the gnex when it was already 8 months old at the time instead of bringing out a new phone to launch jellybean with.

Are you happy with this phone?

Debating the S4 and Note 2 for my next upgrade.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
I'm happy with mine. It's a learning curve coming off a long line of HTC phones, but the S4 is a great phone.
I've never used a Note 2, so can't comment on that.
I had a note 2 and at times I prefer a smaller phone. I tried the HTC One and it was to small. S4 seems just right. If you can might want to try and wait out for the Note 3.
Love since after the update just wish this keyboard was better. I like the stock keyboard but it is terrible to type on for me anyway.

Try swiftkey. Its amazing.
As to the post this phone is amazing. Good battery life. Faster than the note 2. Very responsive. Overall its great. The stock keyboard is off but everything else is good.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
I had the same decision to make and overall, size of the phone made my final decision for me. I already have a Nexus 7 tablet and I just didn't see the point in having a 5.5" phone. 5" is probably the largest I'd ever want to go on a smart phone.
Overall I'm extremely happy. This is the first smart phone I've had where I'm in no rush to move away from stock.
Went from Single core ---> Dual core ---> Quad core. Oh yes, I'm very satisfied.
Really like the slim ROM and the KB that comes with it.

I've had both and while I'm really loving the S4 I definitely miss the larger screen of the Note II. I have small hands but I was starting to get comfortable with the size of the Note II when the S4 came out and I jumped ship.
Basically I'd say you can't go wrong with either.
I'm really liking this phone. It does come with quite a bit of bloat from Samsung and Sprint. I installed ForceROM 1.0 which has all of that gone. I upgraded from the E4GT and it's a HUGE difference. I love the 1080p screen and 1.9Ghz quad core. Tons of power in a little phone.

Anyone thinking about switching to the Nexus 5?

I was offered a trade for a 32gb Nexus 5 for my Note 3. I was wondering if anyone is also considering this. I am stuck between the two. The only thing thats keeping me from doing the trade is that the battery is awful on the Nexus 5. Just wanted some opinions on this. Thanks
Nope. U getting some extra cash (I mean 399 vs 650) cause straight trade doesn't make sense, might as well sell the note and buy a new nexus

Definitely not worth the trade... If you wanted to you can just buy one used in a month for probably less than 300 and have both phones
agree with everyone here. just read all the reviews on both everywhere if you're still unsure. note 3 is still the best phone on the market. i was in your shoes too deliberating between the two and picked the note 3; very glad i did.
I'm sold on the Nexus 5 after I persuaded my coworker to get one, but I wouldn't even consider trading my note 3 for it.
The truth is I'm having some awful luck with my note. I'm on my 2cd device and I can't seem to stay connected to a wifi network. Plus the home button on both went from perfectly pushable to a sunk in button I have to mash with my fingernail. Sammy definitely didn't hit a home run as far as build quality imho.

That's weird, I've had zero wifi issues. I'm using the 5ghz channel of my buffalo ac router. I also tested the 2.4ghz and no issues.
This thread is all kinds of wrong. First the Note 3 is worth a considerable amount more than a Nexus 5. Second, this phone beats it in some important categories including screen, battery life and features.
And last but not least, stock Android blows. Especially the latest version with those big and ugly icons. Stock Android is super boring to me and too light on features.
Just my opinion but don't do it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
Even with the bloat I think the Note 3 is far superior to any of Nexus devices. I even think the S4 is as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
Battery life on the Nexus 5 compared to the Note 3, is night and day. The N5 can't even last a day, not even close.
And I still love the deep Plasma blacks, and vibrant colors of AMOLED screens, I've seen the N5 in store, and it looks washed out in comparison.
Plus more RAM on the Note 3.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Making a phone with that small of a battery is like putting a 3 gallon gas tank on a car...almost not usable. 3,500-4,000 mah should be the standard on phones these days. You would be very disappointed with the trade.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk version [HORRIBLE.1x]
Erica Griffin from YouTube did a mini review of the Nexus 5 and she was only about 3:30 uptime, 2:20 screen time and she was at 26% battery. It's a joke and even she was saying the same pretty much.
If you are a moderate to heavy user in any way, why would you even consider the Nexus 5?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda premium
I just returned my nexus 5 today. It's hard to use anything with a non amoled screen after you have used a phone with an amoled screen.
The nexus 5 camera was also horrible.
Sad part is, I bought the nexus 5 and gave my wife my note 3 and now she won't give it back, so it's back to the sgs4 for me
